    Another really useful video. I get asked these questions every day from patients, and explaining in a simplified way is so much easier 😊

    I’ve been on beta blockers for 11 years and I’ve been wondering why I never get the fight or flight thing. I just thought my brain was wonky but this explains it. Thank you

    I was on a large dose of Beta Blockers for 2 months, and I couldn't take it. I had to get off of them. I tapered in half and then in half again over the last month, and when I finally stopped them, I had 2 weeks of feeling like I was having a heart-attack. It was terrible. I hope they help some people, but the way I felt while taking them didn't work for me......

    So can a beta blocker for b1 receptors trigger high potassium levels?

  • @BlaxJakx

    Have been in hospital for my crohns and colitis the past 8 weeks and my blood pressure along with heart rate over the past few months has been getting worse and worse and I’ve just been put on this drug today due to the results of the past 3 days of ECG results.
    I’m only 31 (literally turned 31 last week). I’m not overweight and it’s come as a bit of a shock as like when you get anything wrong with your heart you assume it’s really really bad? My parents and family are visiting tomorrow and I know they will be asking what’s what and I don’t know if I want to tell them as they will worry and I don’t want them worrying.

      @TheStealthDoctor  Год назад

      Sorry to hear this. Look, high blood pressure can cause your heart to be irregular, so treating with beta blockers can both improve your blood pressure and calm fast heart rates. A lot of people have this issue so you needn't be worried as long as your doctor is looking after you, you carry on learning about your condition and stick with the plan. At your age it sounds like there's a genetic component to all this. Hope this helps, I'm afraid I don't give any personalised advice here, but it might make sense to ask your doctor to explain things in a bit more detail for you. Take care!

      @@TheStealthDoctor yes very true in regards to genetic. I found out last night in conversation with my fathers side of the family that my dad, his grandad and their brother and sister all had heart related issues or had to have by passes before the age of 35 and 42 years old. I’m still in hospital in Salisbury uk at the moment waiting for a new immune suppressant therapy (biologics) which I’m having on Monday and then hopefully I will be allowed to go home. Then come back a week later for a colonoscopy to look at a new area of damage further up from a previous terminal illium resection I had 6 years ago but now it is spreading outward on that join and large bowel is very inflamed but I am hoping the new biologic therapy treatment will be better than the last 2 which have failed and then that in turn could have a positive effect on stress, heart and blood pressure. I have asked the nurse in charge this evening for more info into why and what the ECG really showed and why and how long I am on the beta blocker for but I was told I would need to have a conversation with my gp or that sort of person tomorrow morning when they do the rounds on the ward I’m on. Sorry for the long rant, any advice is obviously taken lightly and I just want an unbiased opinion which then I can relay the information tomorrow to whoever I speak to just so I atleast know a bit more before I have to sit and listen trying to take it in from then tomorrow in a quick 2 min chat as they have a very busy hospital here in Salisbury so you get very little 1:1 time with the docs/specialists.

      @@TheStealthDoctor at its worst the past week it’s been 168 over 107 but 24 hrs on the beta blocker and it’s gone to 154 over 102 and then this evening it was 141 over 98. So it is slowly working I assume?
