PPI Protein Pump Inhibitor Discovery! EUREKA!
Due to popular demand the 'History' chapters of the WTF drug series have been snipped out for you here. The history of PPIs like omeprazole or lansoprazole or pantoprazole is really interesting. Don't you want to know where your drugs come from?

Only about 10-30% of viewers stick on the main video (probably because the most important thing to know is about how it works), but hey, the history takes ages to research and is really cool. So here you go :D

      Unfortunately no. Long term PPI use has been linked to vitamin deficiencies (B12 and magnesium), dementia, muscle and bone weakness, as well as increased risk of infections. However some doctors may still prescribe long term if the benefits outweigh the risks

    I get labs every 3-4 months, I have lupus sle and my recent labs from July just came back with high cpk or ck levels at 267 with 167 being the higher end of “normal” so I’m 100 above the normal range. I definitely deal with swelling even on Benlysta treatment with the awful hydroxychloroquine but I haven’t had high levels of ck before. I just hope it’s not my meds or my kidneys or liver function

    If PPI stops my stomach from producing acid then how am I able to digest food? And for how long does it prevent this? Could have continued on another 5 minutes

    • @TheStealthDoctor
      @TheStealthDoctor Месяц назад

      Good question. 1. A ppi won't stop all your acid 2. Cells turn over really fast so they'll start getting replaced immediately and producing acid again 3. You can digest in lots of ways, not just acid. Hope that makes sense

      The dehydration and losing electrolytes can give you a headache too. I know from having undiagnosed MCAD, which caused a reaction (nasty stomach issues that’s tmi) to gluten. I have loads of allergies but hadn’t realised. My gps weren’t taking any notice. Slimming world diet cracked the ‘case’ because soft fluffy white bread is naughty on that plan. But from all that I’ve realised that I was severely dehydrated and why & my electrolytes were really low too. Causing fever and headaches, oddly the fever symptoms don’t show on a thermometer… Hope you feel better soon, those symptoms make life miserable
