I am also married and would like to know how do handle being away from work while the wife handles the financial burden? I am just looking for guidance and would love to hear your opinion. Not too direct at all! Thanks for watching my videos. Most people will get a loan through Sallie Mae that also covers some living expenses so it makes it more manageable. So unless you have a lot of money saved up or something I don't see many more options than that. That being said it definitely takes a lot of commitment from you and your wife but if you can either get a loan or finance it yourself it is doable.

For all the writtens after PPL, I have heard ,as you suggest, to use Sheppard air. If someone is not working with a CFI and trying to get the writtens knocked out before starting atp, how do you get the endorsements to take the written using Shepard air?
Personally I just screenshotted three practice tests on sheppard airs software that showed above a 90% then I emailed ATP and they sent me an endorsement to go take the test. You can call ATP to find out who to email. Don't quote me on this but I think sheppard air might have a way of endorsing you as well
I'm married too with a 3 year old, mortgage, bills etc. Definitely takes a lot of dedication and time, and lots and lots of money. Luckily my wife was very understanding (not at first), but she came around. My start date was June 17th, but grinded it out mid March. Did my Par/cax/foi/FIA prior to start date. Good content. Sub'd The read view dos are just the tip of the iceberg. The PHAK/Poh is definitely helpful. RUclips vids are also Helpful also. In reality as student pilots we fail the pave daily. Pilot: stressed Aircraft: good enViroinment: good but stressed External: family stress/ stress in general. 🤣🤣😮💨😮💨😮💨

Of course! Only app that I know for instrument training is hold trainer. It just teaches you how to do holds. As far as studying for the written knowledge test, I used Sheppard air and it was great.
This may sound like a stupid question but I genuinely would like to know if you are able to have a job while being in ATP? Something small part time? Or is that just not practical or allowed- because if you can't have a job then how do you live? Rent, gas, groceries etc. while being in ATP since I believe you don't get payed until you become a CFI for then until then how does one survive the required cost to live? Or how long would you be without an income? Thank you any response on this is appreciated!
Definitely not a dumb question! It'd be really hard to have a job while at ATP, even if it is part time. The only way that you could probably work is if you can control the hours/weeks that you work. Some weeks are super busy but once you're endorsed and waiting for a checkride you don't have much going on. Most people take out a loan and factor in living expenses when considering the amount they want to take out. Let me know if this helps! Thanks for watching my videos!
@@thatpilotluke oh okay that makes alot of sense, it just made me think I'd have to quit my job and then have no way of being able to do flight school because of money, that's a relief though I didn't know you could factor that into a flight school loan. I'm in San Antonio Tx, so it's not a high cost of living thankfully but im not sure if there's atp training here or if I'd have to go to Austin which costs slightly more. Either way, now I think the best thing to do is save as much as possible until I have to quit for atp, and do the loan thing for school and living expenses but thank you for the help and I'll continue watching!! Do you have a recommended season or month to start with atp? I guess I'll also be studying until then for the written exams and everyhting

Do you perchance know what the housing situation is for ATP? I have seen that ATP has partnerships with apartments, but I dont know if they are strictly ATP students or a mix with random strangers not affliated with ATP

Hey Luke, I am almost 14, which is the legal age in Australia for aviation. And was thinkjng of joining the Australian Air Cadets so i can cheaply get my hours and a good training, is this a good idea? Thanks man this video is great

@@thatpilotluke I did their CFI program earlier this year, regrettably. What was supposed to be a 3-4 week program turned into 9 weeks, + 7 week wait time for a class date after I finished commercial. In contrast, I finished instrument and commercial training phases in 4.5 months. During ATP CFI Academy, they only give you 3 right seat flights before you’re supposed to be proficient in all maneuvers from the right seat. I passed the 8-10h mock oral but by the time they got around to scheduling my flight, I had ONE dual flight in the preceding 5.5 weeks. Management openly admitted part of their strategy is to fly out those 3 flights early so they can ‘see who doesn’t belong’, vs spreading those flights out to keep people proficient. It’s also clear they don’t have CFI jobs for everyone (just do the math). Thus, they have perverse incentives to continually look for off-ramps for people. It was criminal what they did. I’ve now heard from others this approach is making its way into earlier training phases. PS I had no stage check failures before this, and have zero checkride failures. I’m now endorsed for the CFI checkride from a different, more reputable school. More than that, I got the proper CFI training students deserve given what ATP charges. If I sound disgruntled, it’s because they earned it. This is just just one person’s experience though, so taken from it what you will.

Not my intent to be negative but I really wish someone had told me how limited the resources were going to be at their CFI Academy. That approach doesn't set students up for success and seems by design, given management's comments and with the benefit of hindsight. I was in the sim on my own daily after it became clear my mock oral and mock flight/endorsement flight were TBD indefinitely. The CSIs do 1-2 grounds per week and they're generally helpful, but apart from that, it's the blind leading the blind in terms of small group study. and obviously there's no substitute (not even the sim) for actually flying and gaining/maintaining proficiency.

It's definitely a lot to handle but doable! Just have to make sure you know what it's going to take and are prepared!

I would also say that the program will take anywhere from 9-15 months. So definitely something to consider when it comes to budgeting
