- Game development update for the game PixelTribe that im currently working on. In this devlog series I discuss the progress of the game and different challenges ive met during development.
In this dev log I fix some core issues ive been ignoring for way to long.
PixelTribe is a game where you can build, upgrade and manage your own clan of vikings. Here you can craft and equip weapons and armor for your vikings, and send them on different raids against other bad-guys.

Suggestion: The boat should carry at least some containers like boxes, barrels, or makeshift cabin/tent.
True! Maybe the next level of the boat should have even more items :D
@@pixeltribegame3478 suggestion: make it so the more stuff you trade, the bigger boat the merchant can get (making him able to bring in more gold and more items) because you can assume he's making money from trading the trash you sell him, and you might have to sell him some amount of ressources like wood to upgrade it.
Or maybe just make it so you can build him a bigger boat, but I like the idea of the trader doing some trading to get his better boat.
This is the first vid of yours I've seen! Loved the look of the game, script, and editing. Keep up the good work bro :D
Thanks a ton! Glad you like it!
same here :o was fully expecting a LOT more subs
Another way to get rid of items I quite like for its elegance is having your new item use the old - objectively worse - item in its recipe. Using your example, this would be having the Copper axe take 2 copper and *1 stone axe* to craft. There are obviously things you need to think of like "Does this work from a logical perspective and if not does it matter?" but when it's done well in a game I really like it because it means you don't even need to think about throwing away items, the second an item becomes useless to you it's already gone.
Edit: I really like your implementation of the trader. It fits the viking theme so much better to have him arrive in a boat on occasion, rather than just be standing around. Plus your sprite for the docks looks great.
Thanks! Thats actually a really good idea! That will make sure items dont become obsolete!
@@pixeltribegame3478 Just make sure you have alternative recipes... If you have like 5 tiers of axes, it wouldn't be fun to first have to craft tier 1 to tier 4 of the axes just to get to tier 5. Having an alternative (but maybe more costly) recipe to directly craft tier 5 would help with that.
Beautiful art and I love the snappy devlog style! Just subscribed :)
might be a bit much, but could have multiple types of merchants when you upgrade the docks, maybe even have a caravan one that sells upgrades too your tools or gear.
Can even have a mystery merchant that sells *special stuff*
That would actually be amazing!
Honestly thought this was a channel with 10k and upwards subs - you're so underrated!
This is awesome! Love the forager-like look! Great devlog, and interesting game😁
I subscribed, cause I'd love to see more!
Awesome video this is giving me some inspiration to get back into game design I haven't had much time since school started but it seems like it would be good to get back into. Thank you so much!
Go for it dude! Cant wait to see what you create :D
Wow I love the aesthetic. I'm getting major forager vibes. I am basing my games aesthetic kind off forager too. But you executed it even better! Great job. I subbed!
First video i see from you....and instant subscribed. :)
This is the first video I've seen that you made, the beginning was freaking hilarious, good job. New sub.
that better be the actual music when u summon the trader
I had some good laughs with your video haha! Nice job man, and keep it up. Game is looking good
First vid of yours I've seen, but loved the devlog! Baljarf's name is awesome, and the game looks great!
This looks super cool!
Nice "randomization" there lol
This is my first time watching you and I really like your content definitely subscribed!
Jesus, your editing skills are just brilliant :D. I am laughing so hard watching this episode! Great job :D
Dude! Banger content! I know that just a small video like this takes ages to make, so i wanna aknowledge that hard work! Keep at it son
Thank you so much!
Amazing game! You just earned a sub!
I really love these style of games, especially my 2006 mobile gaming childhood was Clash of Clans, and Skyrim and Minecraft during 2015 on an old family computer
Great devlog! First time seeing your stuff your game looks good
Amazing video, going to keep an eye on your games development, looks interesting
Great video. And the game looks super awesome too. Love the art
"I just ran out of potatoes" .. "idiot" .. this had me laughing. :))))
Game looks really beautiful and your video is really awesome. This definitely deserves More attention
Thanks! That means a lot :D Have an awesome day!
firstly wow you are good at pixel art secondly I was your 999th subscriber lol
Looks excellent so far!
Few questions:
Will Linux users be able to play?
Is it possible to join in beta testing?
I can absolutely port it to linux as well, and i will be needing some testers soon, stay tuned
@@pixeltribegame3478 :D
Wow!! I really like this devlog!
Wooww when i clicked the video I instantly opened my mouth cause the game looks so very nice, and also looks a lot like Forager, is it inspired or are you one of the Forager developers? Anyways, the game looks very good, and if it isn't out yet, I will when it is for sure!
That was an amazing video :)
Brilliant feature! I like how the boat comes when you summon it. Seems like quite a long cool down for summoning him back, will you implement the other features for players to get rid of extra resources whilst they wait?
Yeah, will add the salvaging and throwing away features later too :D
Cute game and dev log series:)
damn only 285 subs? underated.🔥🔥🔥
You're underrated
I love it how you edited your video…AND your Game. I think your Tester could have been nicer. I doubt he wouldn’t have made similar mistakes. Such a thing like a Game is a process. Learning and editing the whole time. Thumbs up, love your Game.
Nice Video! Game is looking great!
Thanks! :D
Looks amazing and a lot of fun, but do you plan on making this for PC? Because for me it looks like this would fit nicely on mobile
Its mainly a mobile game yes, but i think i will release it on PC too for those who want to play it on a second monitor or something :D
Why I have fears of playtesting haha~ *sweats in terror* Barlarf is a hero! :D
The merchant is a really nice addition to the game
Thanks! Glad you like it! :D
your devlogs are awesome man i love the progress!! but how would the vikings reproduce people 🤔
Hmm good question, that sounds like the topic for another devlog ;)
when you implement the summon feature , with a cooldown, does that have any reason?
does it help a game mechanic?
why do you want to limit the selling option like that? what game mechanic is served?
if it is just random than you really shouldnt . its just a quality of life thing then, in the negative direction.
Why have a summon feature instead of just always there if you want him on demand constantly?
@@michaelsorensen7567 even better.
if the summon cooldown could be upgraded, to become shorter, then it would be a feature. you see what i mean?
if there is no related game mechanic, like upgrading or any other influence on the game, then indeed just have it on the ready at all time.
This is awesome 👍
the artsyle looks like a blatant copy of forager, but the mechanics are really good. i feel like some issues would arise if the final art syle is kept this way
Nice!
very cool
Hey buddy! i'm just starting with game development. I like your game so far. What engine are you using? Thanks!
Im using Unity! Good luck on your journey as well:D
1:38 That killed me :D masterpiece!
Haha glad you liked it!:D
This game looks very visually similar to another game i've played called Forager. Did you work on that game before this project?
I think the icons need to be higher resolution as they do not match the same pixel density as everything else. The font is also a bit hard to read
Ill see what i can do! Thanks for the feedback:)
Limiting the ability to sell is an odd choice if there's no other way to get rid of items... Can you expand on why this limitation would work? (First time seeing a vid from you.)
Nice vid! Which language do you use to make the script?
im using c# and unity to create the game:D
is it possiblie to make soup before fixing the dock? if so its probably still possible to run out of potatoes
Damn i didnt think of that! Yes it is and youre absolutely right!
I like the art style was it inspired by Forager's art style?
Thats correct! :D Love that game!
looks good
this is great
game looks extremely similar to Forager, are you the dev behind that game?
hmmmm that xp bar kinda looks like the on in the game forager xd
Your friend seems nice.
While i was watching this game sended a massage saying "check the windmill"
Am playing this on my mobile phone and what I see is that for a single simple rune I have to wait 30 minutes. Maybe adjusting the timers would be better.
Why does the game look so similar to forager? Are you related or do you just use the same assets? Not saying it's bad, I do like the style.
When you release the game, can you make it a avabile for mac? Great game btw!
Thanks! Absolutely! :D
hey can you add seasons like winter summer spring and autumn
is this game gonna be for ipad? & i subbed
Yes it is :D
is this using the forager game assets? is this like a forager xpack
Not using any forager assets, but im using the color palette and similar font:)
forager vibe
ur game looks so cool I want to stop working on my game and work towards a similar concept, I NEED TO FOCUS HELP MEEEEE
YOU CAN DO IT!
What programming language and game engine is used to build this?
Im using Unity for the game :D
If that's not already the case, maybe have Baljarf give away a free potato under the condition that the player has none in inventory, hasn't enough gold to buy it, and has nothing left to sell (just to idiot-proof it all :P If people can break the game, they WILL) ! Although if under those conditions maybe have him make some snarky comment about being VERY bad at managing stuff ?!
Thats a freaking great idea! I love it!
@@pixeltribegame3478 Glad you love it :) Definitely gonna follow that game of yours ! Great work so far. Sometimes the algorithm does a good job :P
Quick Q, Is this art design final? I see a ton of Forager inspiration, but it was so much that I actually stopped and thought, wait is this the developer of Forager making a new game?
No its not final, have gotten a lot of feedback that it might be too similar. Will see what i can do about it :)
@@pixeltribegame3478 Personaly I'd say it's too similar. I get why you got the idea for the game though. I also played forager and similar titles and started working on different variations of my own indie games with that inspiration, so I get where you're coming from. Excited to see how it develops though!
@@pixeltribegame3478 Shaders. All the shaders.
random guy that try the game: "reload a shotgun with bullets called FEEDBACK"
are you using forager textures? The UI looks exactly the same as forager
I have taken inspiration from forager, since its a game i love. But i have only used a similar font and color palette:) hope you dont think its too similar, have tried making it my own
@@pixeltribegame3478 i think alot of the textures look way to similar but i like the concept and feel of the game
@@pixeltribegame3478 id recommend changing the font entirely. I straight up thought it was the forager font just cause its free to download and I use it frequently, aside from that trying something different with the reticle/selection cursor could differentiate it big time.
so where can i go to add this to a wishlish i can follow?
When does this game come out and what can you play it on
Hopefully this summer, so stay tuned
Can I wishlist this game on steam? Do you have the link for me?
Not yet! Stay tuned
gud
where do you get game
wait hold up isnt this forager but different gameplay
Does Baljarf have a total amount of cash he has to give when selling? Or can players just sell a bunch of garbage and things to no end and end up with infinite money?
He currently has infinite money, but you make a good point, maybe he should have an X amount of cash available!
Still didn't fix the crashing with full inventory :DD
The graphics for this game are directly ripped from Forager, or inspired by it. Is this a placeholder, or will this be the final style of the game?
Why does this look exactly like forager? Both artstyle and UI
Can I play whatever has been made already ?
Im planning on having some open beta testing soon! Stay tuned
i need to test out this game im begging it looks so good and i want to grind it and see how far i can take it plssssssssssssssssssssssss im begin
I will absolutely need some testers soon! Stay tuned
Idk why, but the game of how it looks kinda gives me forager vibes.
Who sucks now dude!? Nice two for one solution.
Wait a second... Vikings... with potatoes? Potatoes are from the Americas. They were only introduced to Europe in the 1500s...
oh sh*t! I did not know! i 100% thought potatoes was like basic viking food:P oh well, guess the historical accuracy of the game just took a hit
Please charge your Kindle. xD
Haha ups you noticed huh?:P
looks like forager ngl
Will you add muiltplayer for mobile and pc it could be almost even better then stardew valley I'm definitely looking forward to this game and subscribing 👍
Thats the plan! Multiplayer can be quite time-consuming to add, so ill start small and add more as i go :D
Forager meets Stardew Valley?
what game is this?
nvm lol
wait... this isn't Forager?
Forager, but not forager
Game looks cool - why everyone tryna copy the forager style tho
Why does everyone seem to think that Forager was the first game to have a poppy pixel-art style...
This game looks way more like classic Pokemon than Forager.
Looks like very similar to 'Stardew Valley'
Can ibplay this in mobile
Not yet, but soon! Stay tuned:D
You scandinavian?
Yeah! From norway:D
@@pixeltribegame3478 Nice... me too
I'm confused, if the game crashed because the inventory was full, why would the logic be that you wanted to give an inventory cleaning tool rather than making the games code recognize the player had a full inventory and leave the items on the ground, or get sent in the mail, etc?
I could absolutely implement a mail system or ground-drop system as well! Takes some time to implement things, so gotta do it one at a time:D
ד"ש
:(
bro wtf that's forager
