Probably new management. Things can change in 13 years. Don’t presume to think what they thought. Papers can get lost because they didn’t have smartphones back then.
I worked at Burger King in the late 1980’s, then returned for much of the 1990’s as a manager. I’ve seen other videos exploring “lost” BK’s but the flaps on the trash cans with the writing… that took me back! I’m pretty sure they read something like, “please place your trash inside the receptacle and place the tray on top. Thank you.” That’s all from memory so it’s obviously going to be slightly different.
Places like these need to be preserved!!!!!! There’s an old retro Sonic in intracoastal City, Louisiana!!!!!! Hasn’t been renovated since the 60’s!!!!!
Instead of creepy I’d say “exciting”. It isn’t a creepy place, but it is unusual to find something that was frozen in time. It’s a real glance into the past. And to think that the last time it was opened and used was the 80s, and then nobody else stepped inside until you… it’s exciting to think about!
We had a Burger King like that in my town until about 10 years ago. I was born in 2001, so far away from the 80s, but we went to the old Burger King often. It is nice to see that. I really hope that whomever buys it, keeps it looking like that for the vintage vibes of it

I haven’t seen such an obsession with nostalgia since 50s diners were popping up everywhere. I think 80s and 90s nostalgia has been bigger than that. I myself am guilty of it.
I remember the ambiance was really joyful, every family sitting on the tables, nobody on their phone so all you could hear was everybody talking to each other which was kind of a comforting feeling, and the food, everything was bigger portions and more tasty for a cheaper price (even while taking into consideration inflatation it was still cheaper) and they also gave out awesome toys with the kids meals. @@reiss5669 why would he lie about his mom and aunt eating at Burger King in 1989?😂😂 I’m sure that most of our (American) parents also ate at Burger King in 1989…😅
Probably saves them time and money. They probably weren't able to get a business to use the space, either. They may have gotten lazy and decided to leave it as is. But it does look well maintained.
I have heard stories of people living in the bowels of malls for years without anyone knowing about it. I saw a news report about a couple people who set up a "home" behind a wall deep inside of a mall and they furnished the space with furniture they found from an area behind behind the walls of the mall that was being used as a stock room for a furniture store that was in the mall.
Of course they noticed. They've been trying to rent that and a dozen other empty spaces the entire time. Mall space hasn't exactly been a hot item these last 13 years. Most malls have 1 or more empty anchor stores now (Sears, JCP, etc).
I live near this mall and can say it has suffered from poor management since the early 2000s. It's really gone down hill, lots of stores leave and nothing opens in their place. I'm not surprised
@@SalisburySnake our local mall was suffering so badly they allowed Dick's Sporting Goods to build a store in between the two halves of the mall with NO ACCESS into either part from inside. So if you're inside one half of the mall, you have to go outside the mall to get into Dick's, and then outside again to get to the rest of the mall. The store that used to be there (JC Penneys) you could just walk all the way through. Plus, the food court is gone now. There's no reason to even go there anymore.
My father was a mall director for decades at several different malls in south Florida and I can’t imagine how many mall directors dropped the ball on this retail rental space over the years. Not sure if that is a Simon, Brookfield or a SITE owned mall but I’m sure they couldn’t be happy about that space not being rented out for the last 15+ years. I mean that’s hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted.
I actually was the last person to be in the store before it closed down. I was a shift supervisor there and spent 15 years working there. So glad to see the interior once again.
How cool! What an idea for fast food companies to open different locations restored to a previous eras decor. People sure would love it. Nostalgia is a very powerful emotion 💕👍
It’s nostalgic!! ☀️🌈❤️. The 80s. Open it back as a Burger King and leave it as it is. Business would be booming !! It’s like a time capsule !! I would love to go there.
Love how the mall manager can lose an entire store in his mall. From the title I assumed the Burger King was somehow trapped behind some new construction walls or a diverted hallway, nope, just behind a friggin door.
You would have loved it. So much fun! Before internet and 'smart phones'. Great music, great movies, and a feeling of hope for the future in the air. People actually talked face to face! I wish I could take my kids there... Take care little one!
So, to add clarity, it wasn't "lost" or "forgotten", the mall management and mall employees were always aware of it, it only closed in 2009. The guy who "discovered" it was a contractor doing renovation work at the mall and decided to go wandering and see what else his key opened, and publicized it. The mall had been actively trying to rent out the space since the Burger King closed, but there was no interest from tenants, its not the only space to become vacant there since 2009, and if you just want to open a retail store, its easier to do that in a space that was a retail store, instead of having to gut a kitchen and restaurant fixtures. The reason it closed was because Burger King corporate mandated all franchises renovate to the new corporate design by the middle of 2008, this one wasn't doing enough business to justify the cost, the franchise owner got some extensions on the deadline, but ultimately decided to close down in 2009 rather than do the required redecoration. In the meantime, the mall management had been using it as storage space.
You don't know how bad I wish some of the places I went as a kid were preserved like this instead of just torn down. The old drugstore where I bought magazines. The grocery stores we went to. My favorite restaurants. The arcade. The movie theaters. Nothing is there anymore. And it breaks my heart. I'd give nearly anything to go back to the 80s, even for a little while.
They're probably checked all the time, not to mention accessed for maintenence and safety checks etc. The news was framing this as if it was a totally forgotten space that an employee "discovered". Not how things work, I'm afraid.
Yeah, this is a complete scam. This was (most?) BK's in the 2000's. Literally closed instead of getting a 2010 era refresh. There's lots of places sitting longer than this even existed for. This is just flat out misrepresentation, and I'm OUTRAGED.

One of my dads friend owns a condo on the beach since the 70s and he moved away around 86. He still visit like maybe once a year but he always let me stay there if we ask. And it’s like a beach condo with all “new” 80s stuff, the tv the carpet the fridge and stove, a bunch of cool radio shack gadgets a water bed. It truly is amazing every time I walk in there to see how perfect and clean everything still is.
I've been to that Burger King many many times. It's in the Concord Mall in Talleyville, Delaware. It's not hidden though or "secret". It went out of business, and no one wanted that space, so it hasn't been demo'd.
Was feeling proud of myself for not seeing how old/nostalgic this looks, because I haven't set foot inside a Burger King since the 90's and have no basis for comparison. Then I remembered I totally have gone to Burger King several times since then. I just hit up the drive-thru.
To see another time period, so still, in one room has to be amazing. The air from the 1980s was still in there lol That’s where people’s parents spent their first dates. Nothing scary about it, just cool as hell. I love it.
Nothing creepy or terrifying about it. Hopefully they use that space as a vintage BK, the same way McDonald’s has a few locations with their old classic looks, but sadly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they demolish it and turn it into something lame like another common store found every where else
Dude that's crazy I remember the old school 90s/2000s McDonald's, Pizza Hut, burger king, Taco bell ect.... They used to look so nice compared to newly renovated ones they're just not the same it doesn't have that wholesome kind of feeling when you step inside like they used to back then
That's because back then, like with a lot of things, they were catering to families, now they cater to individuals.... you can thank libtards and their hate/envy for the nuclear family for that...
Before the Pizza Hut in my town moved across town to a place owned by the same person, they still had all the old photos of bands from the 60's and 70's on the walls. They even had the old Book It! posters with things like TMNT and so on from when I was a kid in the 80's, and we could get stickers for books we read and turn them in for a free personal pan pizza!
Soda machines were behind the counter in the 80s, the self serve sodas started in the 2000s. That store has not been closed that long. The BK I grew up around looked like that until at least 2006.
It stated in this video that the restaurant closed 13 years ago. Was sealed off and then forgotten during renovations of the mall. That’s why you see the more modern soda machines of the 2000s.
That's funny because I grew up in the 80s and have first hand knowledge that self serve soda fountains existed. Our local skating rink had one. We did this thing where we would mix each flavor. It was called a suicide. Horrible name but that's what it was.
Untrue, I worked for bk over 20 years ago (I've been at my current job for nearly twenty years) and I worked at every BK in my town that ever was and is and I can tell you one of the bk I worked at regularly had a drink fountain out front and we were always getting frustrated about the ice machine getting clogged, but then one night a employee was talking about giving the manager a strip tease show after work (she was a college student and needed the money apparently) and I think they're going to go to the sleezy motel next door and I can still hear him asking her if that included touching orifices in her body eww tried to pretend like I didn't hear and wish I hadn't honestly.

That's so cool. The trash can in this video says "Toss it in. Drop it in. Slide it in. Get the Tray. Just get your trash in here some way."

@@Mu5icPr0ducer how?
I have heard stories of people living in the bowels of malls for years without anyone knowing about it. I saw a news report about a couple people who set up a "home" behind a wall deep inside of a mall and they furnished the space with furniture they found from an area behind behind the walls of the mall that was being used as a stock room for a furniture store that was in the mall.

The crazy thing about this is that the store space was forgotten for 13 years. Hundreds of thousands in lost rent and nobody noticed?
Of course they noticed. They've been trying to rent that and a dozen other empty spaces the entire time. Mall space hasn't exactly been a hot item these last 13 years. Most malls have 1 or more empty anchor stores now (Sears, JCP, etc).
Not forgotten because the Christina mall nearby was expanding faster. That one was just slow
