Rechecked my zero yesterday on the CVA inline that I have been shooting since 98. 80gr 3f Goex, and a QT saboted bullet still rocks the whitetails here in Ky. Good luck on your hunt, I am heading out Saturday morning for our early 2 day muzzle loader hunt.
I have use Pyrodex FFG equivalent for decades, 80 grains is the sweet spot for the Wolf shorter barrel. Powerbelts are sketchy, I prefer something like a .44 cal XTP with a sabot... Good shooting!
Growing up, I had and still use a Knight Wolverine LK93 50Cal. I always zero 2 inches high at 50 yards which puts you dead on at 100yrds and about 2-3 inches low at 150. Same way I do my 30-30's. Meat in the freezer everytime.
This is good to know. Had a smoke pole around 10 years ago but gave that to my grandson. Looking to get back into one of these and that is one I am looking at. Looking at the Optima maybe as an upgrade before I even start tho!
Had a nice buck follow the wind into my Cohiba cigar. Completely took off the top of his heart at 75yds with one of these muzzle loaders. One of these days I'll add a scope to it. Great guns.
Great video! And yes, my exact comment to myself was that the 100 yard and 50 yard difference with such a heavy slug was "impressive"! And with only 100 grains not 150 grain powder charge. It would be great to have you tell us how this bullet performed when you make your first deer kill!.

Love it. Ive got a traditions g4 persuit and use the same bullet and powder but found it likes winchester 209s better in my smoke pole. Live in washington state and they recently opened us up for 209 primers and scopes. Able to stretch her out to at least 200yrds out here.
Nice setup and no reason to change but if you ever want to change bullets I can't recommend Barnes 245gr spitfire EZ /120 gr powder more highly. Harvested dozens of Iowa whitetails over the years with 100% success on game performance.
I like it. For the price. Everyone should have one. I got mine on sale when there was no primers 🐸. I knew eventually I would find some. Waited a couple weeks then I found me a case.
My experience has always been 2 in high at 50 with a 245 250 dead on at 100 bit.....i went lil heavier this year to 295 with same powder charge and 3.5 at 50 was dead on at 100 and 7 1/4 at 150....may notbmean much but eanted to throw my results out there in case it may help.thanks yall!! I don't know why it is desirable to shoot such heavy bullets in muzzle loading rifles. I have some saboted bullets but for hunting I have always used a 190 grain round ball. These pass through an elk just like any of my smokeless rifles with pretty decent velocity. Maybe a big bear would require one.
@@russellkeeling9712 i was trying a new load my ares are kinda thick an in reality 120 is a looooong shot for me i was shooting 2 pellets of white hots and 295 power belts shot really really good fot me for the 50 to 100 yrd range so i took it out longer than i usually would hope n to help someone shooting the same thing or wanting to try so they would have a ball park.....aint no doubt accuracy with round balls is amazing!! But i was just posting my results hope n to help a feller out
I never had a need for an inline muzzle loader because until just recently, we never had a season for it. Looks like a good, accurate rifle there! By the way, is the CVA Scout in 45-70 of yours stainless or some kind of coating? I have a stainless Marlin in 45-70, but it would have to be totally dismantled to clean up the inside of the receiver after using black powder loaded cartridges, but that Scout looks like it would be a simple affair to clean!
My CVA scout dismantles just like a single pipe shotgun. I don't understand what receiver you might be talking about. The only area the black powder should contact is the inside of the barrel.
Howdy Whoo_Tee, I have used the power belt 295 grain but decided to go with the 250 grain Hornaday SST this year, next year though instead of going with the Spitzer style round, I want to try out their hollow points, I’ve never shot one out of my muzzleloader and I’m interested to see how they perform, The round on the front page of this video is interesting and I just saw 45 caliber ones that were literally 2 1/2 inches long, it look like you would be shooting a cone out of your musket..LOL I always sight in at 25 yards, and that puts me right around the bull’s-eye out to around 200 yards, I sight all my guns in this way

Hey your doing a great job with your boy man. He is shooting that .243 great! Have saw too many adults that can't shoot that well. I have 5 year old twin boys that just moved from shooting a .22 to shooting my AR. They are hitting the paper at a 100, but that's about it. Price of ammo split between them keeps me from shooting with them as much as I would like. Anyway, you get an at a boy from me.
My son used to be a poor shot when we were shooting paper until I made a bet with him for money. When that happened we were actually shooting our muzzle loaders. Since then he is quite good. We go this Sunday to make sure his .270 is still on cuz his deer and elk season begins the 30th.
My friend thank you very much for this video yesterday I made two big mistakes. I shot the biggest buck in my property at 165 yards. I miss an hour later I saw three more bucks in him walking together 130 yards a shot again And I did not hit him. I was so depressed I came back to my house went to my shooting range and I was hitting the target at 110 no problem I start looking up on Google what is the max to shoot with a muzzleloader at hundred yards and start dropping this morning I went back up I saw the monster buck 160 yards and I was so happy that he came back in. Hopefully I will get it for rifle season so i go my first buck of the season at 80 yards.
I have an Accura 50, and it shoots incredibly well with Powerbelts, but it doesn't do as well with the heavier ELR bullets. I suspect a faster twist would help. I swear by Blackhorn 209, but it does take a different breech plug.
The round will strike the same place at 25 yards and 125 yards the bullet trajectory is rising and dropping in-between those distances. So if you zero it at 50 yards it will strike low at 100 yards.
Did you clean the barrel in between shots I know that pyrodex is some dirty stuff and I’ve never good groups out of the pellets so I went with loose powder blackhorn 209

Maybe but my guess is somewhere around 1800 fps. The mass of the .50 cal. bullet will cause it to retain velocity longer than the .22lr so drop of the larger bullet should be less.
if your looking for a really really good clean powder for your muzzleloader you really need to check out blackhorn 209. its loose powder so once you know your volume meassurement to actual weight in grains conversion you can bassicly create a centerfire rifle accuracy with precise loads. and if you really want to throw a bone to some smokestick viewers and want to really show off what a very modern muzzleloader can do you should look at the CVA paramount. need to check your hunting regulations for min. bullet diameter. i have the .45 paramount bc indiana requires a bore of .45 cal min. and it is a personally proven sub MOA loader with many 2.5inch 300 yard groups. if your state allows for a 40 cal bore they are now making a paramount in .40 cal with their ELR bullets as well and its ballistics are pretty wild with very good potential. but either way definitly check into using blackhorn 209.
What kind of banging around ? I like budget optics as long as they can stand up to the weather as in snow ETC. do a vid on 300wm drop I have a good ammo brand to use 😁
If I ever get an in-line, CVA would be my choice. I've got a Traditions .50 cal that I put together from a kit back in 1992. Mom got it for me for Christmas, thought it would take my mind off Desert Storm. Truthfully, I was a newlywed. My mind wasn't on the desert! Sorry, I got off subject! The problem with the Traditions is that I can put a scope on it, but can barely get the trigger cocked because of the tight fit. So, I just use the iron sights. That's ok up to about 75 yards. But I would feel more confident for longer shots, and shots in low light conditions, with a scope.
im shooting the hornady bore driver 290 grains with 80 grains by weight and its still spot on from 50 to 100.that bigger grain bullets drops a little bit but still its a good shot

I had a 54 cal black powder hawken rifle killed a 12 point buck at 75 yards . Feel really bad about selling it and this was with round ball patched bullet and 100 grains of FF black powder . Have fun bro .
I was trying out my Thompson Center 54 cal. Renegade with POWERBELT 348gr .54cal Copper Aerotip SKU: AC1597AT. On a cedar tree it looked like I hit it with an explosive tip.
I had double the drop with Aerotips and I sighted an inch high at 50 yards. I'm hoping if there is a deer at 100 yards I can just aim higher on it. If beyond 150 I might have to hold over the deer. I tried using 150 grains of Pyrodex pellets but the grouping was all over the place.
If you're going to shoot Powerbelt bullets that is the best choice, the ELR shoots pretty flat in my Optima V2 LR. Wish you would have shot a couple more at a hundred. You really don't learn much by shooting one shot in any rifle. When you get rid of the rest of that Pyrodex try the Tripple 7 Firestar pellets. I think you'll like them better. A little hotter and a LOT cleaner. I'd love to try the Blackhorn 209, and I've even got the breech plug for it, but it's crazy high priced right now. Fifty bucks for ten ounces is a bit over the top for me.
That's not realistic if you are actually using the firearm. Running powder tests I can easily shoot a dozen times and still be able to seat the bullet on the powder. Actually a round ball and lubed patch works much better for that than a sabotted bullet.
@@russellkeeling9712 Actually think about it for a second. If you reload ammunition, the one thing that needs to be the same is the pressure to achieve the most consistent accuracy. A muzzleloader is exactly like reloading a round, but instead of loading numerous rounds, you load it each time. And to make everything the exact same each time to achieve the exact same thing. The barrel needs to be the same from the first shot to your last shot. Everyone knows that each time a shot is fired in a muzzleloader it makes the barrel very dirty. So it changes between each shot. Cleaning it after each shot keeps it the exact same from the 1st to the 10th. It removes any deviation between the shots. ( same bullet , same power charge, same primer, same clean barrel) Oh it’s not really needed for fast follow up shots. But if you want the most accuracy it definitely is. I’m referring to in-line muzzleloaders with maximum charges more than traditional muzzleloaders.
The Airforce line of airguns are awesome and very powerful in most calibers. My .25 caliber Airforce Condor SS is Lazer beam accurate and puts out up to ninety foot pounds of energy with heavy pellets and boat tail/ cup base slugs. With a jsb 33.95 grain pellet I can split a wood match stick at thirty yards.
Have you ever tried shooting the old style Flint locks like back in the American revolutionary times? I used to work with a guy that was in a reenactment club where he would actually do that dress up like David Crockett and they would go deer hunting once a year.
I ring steel at 200 yards with my CVA wolf. But, the short barrel limits the muzzle velocity. The math doesn’t support ethical shots past 100 yards. But, then again, I’ve got a Hawken muzzle loader that shoots 177 grain patched lead round balls at 1,600 FPS. Math says you could shoot the deer a point blank range and not kill it.
I wish you would have fired those shots through the chronograph. I have been doing some powder and bullet tests with one of my .50 caliber rifles but I have only been using Goex black powder and home made black powder. Last I checked we are not allowed to use optics on primitive firearms in hunting seasons in my state.

Tellin ya Who Tee. Thats a 200yrd rifle. Really starts to fall off after that but 0 to 200 its as good as any rifle. I use 250 grainers with three pyrodex pellets. I think i told you that before. But yeah its a killer. It really hammers whitetails. I killed my last one (big ole doe) at 178yrds. And it floored it the same as the one i killed at 70 yards. I sight in one inch high at 100 yards. Puts it just couple inches low at 200. If you compare bullet weight and feet per second what you have there is more or less a .450 bushmaster. Pretty darn close comparison. Anyway. Thanks. in my tc/pro hunter 100 g white hot and 338 proyectil , center at 50 yard im 4 in at 100 big problem for me all the deer in nc show up at 175 exact and this year little blood trail on good place shot will try thor bullets see what happen

Moving faster than I thought! Less drop than a 22lr , maybe 22mag velocity of a bit over 2000 fps 2300? Fps very interesting since you didn't chrono.

Nice shooting I would chunk the pyrodex. Triple 7or White hots are alot cleaner and no rotten egg smell.
I had a 54 cal black powder hawken rifle killed a 12 point buck at 75 yards . Feel really bad about selling it and this was with round ball patched bullet and 100 grains of FF black powder . Have fun bro .

How did all the bullets stabilize? Any fliers or out of round holes? That bullet's specs call for a 1:24 twist or faster and that CVA Wolf is 1:28.

I was trying out my Thompson Center 54 cal. Renegade with POWERBELT 348gr .54cal Copper Aerotip SKU: AC1597AT. On a cedar tree it looked like I hit it with an explosive tip.
I had double the drop with Aerotips and I sighted an inch high at 50 yards. I'm hoping if there is a deer at 100 yards I can just aim higher on it. If beyond 150 I might have to hold over the deer. I tried using 150 grains of Pyrodex pellets but the grouping was all over the place.

If you're going to shoot Powerbelt bullets that is the best choice, the ELR shoots pretty flat in my Optima V2 LR. Wish you would have shot a couple more at a hundred. You really don't learn much by shooting one shot in any rifle. When you get rid of the rest of that Pyrodex try the Tripple 7 Firestar pellets. I think you'll like them better. A little hotter and a LOT cleaner. I'd love to try the Blackhorn 209, and I've even got the breech plug for it, but it's crazy high priced right now. Fifty bucks for ten ounces is a bit over the top for me.

Do you clean the bore between each shot? That’s the best way to achieve the most accuracy from a muzzleloader.
That's not realistic if you are actually using the firearm. Running powder tests I can easily shoot a dozen times and still be able to seat the bullet on the powder. Actually a round ball and lubed patch works much better for that than a sabotted bullet.
@@russellkeeling9712 Actually think about it for a second. If you reload ammunition, the one thing that needs to be the same is the pressure to achieve the most consistent accuracy. A muzzleloader is exactly like reloading a round, but instead of loading numerous rounds, you load it each time. And to make everything the exact same each time to achieve the exact same thing. The barrel needs to be the same from the first shot to your last shot. Everyone knows that each time a shot is fired in a muzzleloader it makes the barrel very dirty. So it changes between each shot. Cleaning it after each shot keeps it the exact same from the 1st to the 10th. It removes any deviation between the shots. ( same bullet , same power charge, same primer, same clean barrel) Oh it’s not really needed for fast follow up shots. But if you want the most accuracy it definitely is. I’m referring to in-line muzzleloaders with maximum charges more than traditional muzzleloaders.

The Airforce line of airguns are awesome and very powerful in most calibers. My .25 caliber Airforce Condor SS is Lazer beam accurate and puts out up to ninety foot pounds of energy with heavy pellets and boat tail/ cup base slugs. With a jsb 33.95 grain pellet I can split a wood match stick at thirty yards.
Have you ever tried shooting the old style Flint locks like back in the American revolutionary times? I used to work with a guy that was in a reenactment club where he would actually do that dress up like David Crockett and they would go deer hunting once a year.

You need to do ballistic gel test with common hunting calibers and Norma ammo
I ring steel at 200 yards with my CVA wolf. But, the short barrel limits the muzzle velocity. The math doesn’t support ethical shots past 100 yards. But, then again, I’ve got a Hawken muzzle loader that shoots 177 grain patched lead round balls at 1,600 FPS. Math says you could shoot the deer a point blank range and not kill it.

I wish you would have fired those shots through the chronograph. I have been doing some powder and bullet tests with one of my .50 caliber rifles but I have only been using Goex black powder and home made black powder. Last I checked we are not allowed to use optics on primitive firearms in hunting seasons in my state.
Maybe 1 inch high at 50,dead on at 100? My muzzle loader is sighted in 2 inches high at 50 ,8 inches low at 200!

I use triple 7 in mine. Its hard to find 45 cal powder pellets.
Tellin ya Who Tee. Thats a 200yrd rifle. Really starts to fall off after that but 0 to 200 its as good as any rifle. I use 250 grainers with three pyrodex pellets. I think i told you that before. But yeah its a killer. It really hammers whitetails. I killed my last one (big ole doe) at 178yrds. And it floored it the same as the one i killed at 70 yards. I sight in one inch high at 100 yards. Puts it just couple inches low at 200. If you compare bullet weight and feet per second what you have there is more or less a .450 bushmaster. Pretty darn close comparison. Anyway. Thanks. in my tc/pro hunter 100 g white hot and 338 proyectil , center at 50 yard im 4 in at 100 big problem for me all the deer in nc show up at 175 exact and this year little blood trail on good place shot will try thor bullets see what happen
I always zero all my riffles at 50 m. I got no drop at all at a 100m. I shoot 222 and 243, next coming soon 7 Rem Mag. We'll see of there's a difference. I highly dout bout it. Keep in touch. As soon as i know i'll let you know.
