Western goth is super interesting to me. I have an alternative style that’s inspired by Spanish gothic architecture and modern gothic. I’m also Mexican so I’m always adding elements of my culture in my decor like (black) terracotta items. I would love to see you talk more about this style as you have a very contemporary gothic style that I aspire to have.
We bought a home 13 years ago that had a beautiful water fountain out front. The owners had tossed two gold fish in the water. Lovely until we ended up the buyers. We knew nothing about caring for them. We fed them but struggled with how to keep it clean. Then, the first freeze was warned. Hubby was working out of town so I grabbed a Home Depot bucket and brought them inside. This led to a small aquarium that was easy to manage. However, Goldfish grow to fill up the size of their tank. Bigger tanks followed and sorrow followed as individuals passed away. Last year we finally lost the last of the original two and after 12 years, it broke our hearts. We are turning 65 this year and keeping up that tank has lost its appeal. We are fighting the desire to find a “friend” for the “friend” of the last original goldfish ( named Goldie by the way) but do not want to keep lengthening the years of aquarium care. We took this life into our care and it deserves the best quality we can provide. This time, it will need to live a life as single because we have no desire to be cleaning that tank out in our 80’s!
Not to scare you but goldfish can live into their 70s with good care. Maybe find a person or a local pond shop that can find it a good home or a large pond to have a community to live with
I had a seawater aquarium way before and I named my different fishes, Celebrity names, like Jennifer Lopez , Britney Spears, Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie, and Drew Barrymore. One day, my husband who was deployed at that time, called from overseas and I told him that Brittney Spears died and he replied, "That is sad. She is very young to die. What is the cause of her death?" Realizing that he was referring to the real Brittney Spears, I answered him, "Oh, it was our fish..." 😅😂😂😂😂

You are awesome people.
Feng shui believe goldfishes dying are taking away bad things from your life! So they dont die in vain. Happy new year to you good person 🥰
I always love your honesty. After watching your videos, I purchase things with more of a purpose, so to speak. I've been watching you for just over a year, and have curated pieces that I can now use in various ways in every season. It's saved me money in the long run, and I can thin out my gimmicky holiday decor. Thank you!
I SO miss my Fridays with V !!! So happy to see you again in this new year!
As someone who has an alternative style and a former Texan who had seen “western goth” pop up… I had a happy tear or two. This is going to be fun!🖤👢
I had a nice compliment today. A well known cartoon artist (won’t drop his name) stopped in the other day and later told my husband how beautiful our house is & it looks like a model home. To me it’s a simple (new) ranch, but I have styled it well. The dining room is empty as we wait for it to be painted & new furniture. Sometimes I think we’re hard on ourselves and someone else sees it with fresh eyes & gives a different perspective.
Love your enthusiasm and appreciate how well you showcase the products you enjoy. Several years ago, we tried an experiment - instead of buying house stuff, we gave the same amount of money to a scholarship fund at a local college. The experiment was designed to last one year, and it was the beginning of our journey to own fewer things. Your thoughts about buying quality pieces resonate with me.
Wonderful to see you are keeping it real. I have learned to hold back from buying cheap things that, I’ll regret buying in a week or two thank you for saving me money.
I am totally with you, especially with the aquatecture. I LOVE watching fish, they are very relaxing but the maintenance and loss of life are too much for me as well! ☺️
That said, if someone else would come to my home to maintain it, I’d be all for that! 😂
I'm with you as far as not wanting all the color trends out there in my house. I like it in other people's homes, just not mine. I've always loved Ralph Lauren's decor . Agree about the cheap furniture. Quality over quantity always. Aqua Texture, NO ! lol
I just come to your channel to get perked up! Thank you! Such joy, such optimism.
You are so welcome!
I love that Ralph Lauren went directly to the Dineh for inspiration. They are expert weavers and sewers and have great graphic fabric designs and rich natural dyed pieces. I’ve been toying with piecing together a quilted jacket using crosses and hadn’t made the connection till this video that the cross quilt designs most likely originated in Dineh weaving designs.
The kitsch trend should have come with more of a major warning, I was eating breakfast! I have V’s voice, discipline and passion in my head to stick to the mood board and plan for each room and compare that to each trend video. Love the raw wood trend for a piece or two. Bleaching my buffet has totally refreshed it, made it look bigger and is giving me a sense of calm and style (added modern matte black handles). It was stained orange and always made me feel stressed.
Happy New year
Valentina xxx
HI, I live for your links in the description, please do more haul videos.. They are so great and I get a ton of stuff off your links. Love you, happy 2024.
Travel to Browning montana the second weekend in July for our annual North American Indian Days celebration. Proud member of the Blackfeet Nation♡
OMG i am SOOOOO with you on the aquarium ban! Fish hospice is so accurate!
Aquariums are a way of life. You have to really be on top of it, or hire someone to maintain it, like you would with a pool or your landscaping. There are people who do that as a service, for a somewhat reasonable price. If you love the look, but worry about keeping things alive, search locally for an “aquarium maintenance service,” or ask your local aquarium/fish store if they can recommend someone in your area.
Hi Valentina! Great video. You always lift my spirits❤ I love your earrings but couldn’t find a link.
Loved this vid
Definitely agree yup solid 😊
Very fun!
You are so funny ! I love your videos!!!
Love you and your energy!! Love the "help you find there path to your true style" motto there.
Thank you so much!
I love aquariums and terariums and we have both. I lived in fla before i moved to TX. 35yrs ago. I have alot of plants too. It is ALOT OF WORK!! If you want them to live! 😊
You are always inspiring.
Oh, I SOOO agree w you about aquatic-life in my home 🫣noooooo‼️
Thanks V
Congrats on 350K.... You definitely deserve it.
We bought a 750$ couch and loveseat from Big Lots just to have something to sit on when we moved and we love them! We’ve had them for 5 years now with 3 kids and pets and they’ve held up beautifully!
I agree! No fish hospice in my house either!!!
*Quality and a Go-to Palette* . At 56, I've gone through many styles in different homes on different budgets. The pieces that have stayed with me over the years reflect a shape/color/ function that are invaluable to me and some of them were flat-pack-put-together pieces but they have stood the test of time. I will keep to my warm earthy palette as that is what brings me joy, peace and calm. One thing I've learned over the years is having a cohesive identity to the home and that takes time.
I concur!!
“Fish Hospice” so funny!🐡🐠🐟
This was a fun video! I do enjoy hearing about the trends and totally agree about the fish for myself at least. If you haven’t been before you might consider visiting Santa Fe. The land of enchantment! ✨🖤✨
Great video! I’m with you on the fish tank😩…we had 4 of those aquatic frogs that start out as tadpoles. Sometimes I would drain out their water into the toilet because it smelled so bad 😬 and we had one frog that jumped into the toilet!😬😩😂
I agree with you, fish belong in nature, not my living room! I am happy to see the western boots and style coming back into fashion! 💖
Oh Valentina, your videos never disappoint. "Fish hospice", same. This is why I don't have plants, I just know they will come here to die. Thanks for sharing these trends.
This was a good one 😂😊❤
I really liked 1883 and 1923. I am interested in knowing the new trends but they will not work with my style or in my home, however I love the diversity and creativity. Thanks for sharing.
Yes I enjoy your trends videos and also your affordable Amazon recommendations. I find expensive quality furniture at consignment stores. Far better Quality than I could afford new.
Love your show! Thank you for all your ideas (and comments!)!!
You are not alone on the fish situation, tried and failed, not doing again. Not fair to the living creature. Love that you called out disposable furniture too! I usually try to buy as much as I can from used sources (antique/thrift/marketplace/etc) just to make sure I'm contributing less to the carbon footprint. :-)
Hi Valentina, I love the houndstooth print pillow cover, I did not note the link in this viewing...
"Hospice for fish" made me crack up!
I love Yellowstone, too. And the latest Ralph Lauren book.
I'm with you on the Western Goth. I'd love it in a second home in the mountains on lots of land especially. But for my main home I'm keeping it neutral. I'm a fish killer too and our son had to have a funeral for all pets when he was little. We have a fish cemetery on the side of our house.😂
Is that Jack being sandwiched in that Air mattress? 😂😂😂😂
I grew up in NM and my parents home and many others had lots of Native American art. Now living in CO I see a lot of western decor. Gothic western may be a trend but western style doesn't seem like a trend in the west. It has been around for a long time. It can be beautiful but it is hard to mix with other styles so it feels limiting.
Look at 2 Grey Hills Navajo rugs though. They can be very expensive but very beautiful and generally the colors are black, white and grey, and sometimes a touch of red
Happy to hear your stance on fish tanks. I agree on them being cruel after having one myself. If the fish tank esthetic is your thing, I would gently suggest just using various seaweeds, drift wood and aquatic plants alone.
I think I actually need some of those H&M coffee cups 😊
I'm not surprised that the generation that grew up in grey on grey houses is now craving colour, fun and a warmer palette. Also, notice that the kitschen can mostly be achieved with paint and accessories - people have no money to renovate.
Agree! No 🐡 🐠🐟indoors unless to eat. 🍽🥂 cheers!
i had wicker chairs i found i got tired of them even when they were not cheap
Fish hospice 😂 I choked on my coffee love her she makes me laugh ❤
Yes!!!!! wasn’t that delightful and hilarious?
@@baseballmomof8indeed 😉❤
Fish hospice! 😂😂😂😂😂
Where is that white sculptural bowl on your mantel from? ❤
Speaking on disposable furniture: I have bought my fair share of it and I’ve made many mistakes. About ten years ago I started looking at furniture in a different way. I only wanted to buy things that could be heirloom pieces. I really appreciate Amish made furniture. If you can’t find the right vintage piece I would encourage looking at buying directly from the Amish if you can. They don’t just make country looking pieces. They have modern and classic pieces that you can customize the wood and the stain. It lasts forever and it will be something you can pass down. Also, look into if family members have things they don’t want that are good quality. I have a birdseye maple writing desk that was the first piece my mom ever bought at a flea market. I needed a vanity for my bedroom and my mom didn’t want it anymore. It fits perfectly in the small spot in my bedroom that I was going to put a vanity. It’s more beautiful than anything I would have bought and it’s special to me.
“Fish Hospice” 😂
"Fish hospice"😂😂😂😂😂
Great video! I agree with you about aquariums; I love looking at fish but I find aquariums unsightly for the most part. 🐠
We’ve been there done that, too. The closest we will ever get to aquaculture is watching the sea life on our Roku screen saver!!
I’m so on board with the aquarium not being a thing! Yes, got suckered in with the free goldfish carnival thing that my son’s won! So, much $ spent and put the goldfish in and then notice it is missing an eye! Now, the lesson is just because it’s missing an eye does not mean it isn’t a fish! We named it Rooster Cogburn (after John Wayne character ) and he lived longer than the other free fish! Lol! Which by the way was maybe a couple of months!
No Aquatic life for me. Been there done that and not doing that again. But for those that love it kudos to you.
On the subject of gimmicky items. I usually put in my favorites then come back a few days later. If I still like it, it goes in the cart. If I am still iffy it stays in favorites until it decide. I have saved a few bucks on impulse buys.
I live in Utah and LOVE western goth. Excited for this trend, will make it easier to find pieces that I like.
I just wanna say, I love you, Valentina!
How about visiting Red Lodge Montana? I could use help designing my space. It's too western mountain themed. It's everywhere here!
I’m from Wyoming, western is our all day everyday look from attire to decor
I purchased a fish tank for a client who never took possession, so instead of giving it away I'm using it. I wasn't interested in maintaining any live fish, so I have fake fish (from Amazon) 😅 It's low maintenance, soothing and so pretty to look at.
Western goth suits my southern Arizona home.
as much as I would love certain trends, my house exterior would be working against the interior if I embraced them
LOVE the western gothic! I feel like it could be done very tastefully. A mix of western gothic and a country club style could be really well done. I would love to see your take (mood board) putting this look together. Your high end style in this genre would be fabulous!
I agree. I would love to see this put together in a few different ways.
I have mixed feelings about the 'disposable furniture'. At present, I have a couple of sofas that I got from Amazon for just under $500 ea a couple years ago when moving into the new house. The style was perfect for the transitional contemporary home: royal blue, tufted, low profile, straight lines, but they were obviously cheap. I still have them and so far they are holding-up, so I believe they were an "ok" investment. However, I have no misconception that they will last like the Ethan Allen bedroom set we just got for the primary bedroom. Of course, the bedroom set (bed, two nightstands, and a bench) totaled $8,000 (and that doesn't include a mattress, bedding, dresser, etc.). Sometimes you just have to go with the disposable furniture.
BTW - We have a primary retreat room off of our primary bedroom and, as inspired by the House of Valentina, we did the room in the Dark Academia style. It looks beautiful.
I too got rid of my aquarium because I got so emotional every time my fish would go to the big lake in the sky. Fish hospice… LOL
I live in Colorado. Western decor by Ralph Lauren. 👍🏻
I LOVE the idea of western goth. I grew up in Tucson and it sounds like the “Territorial” style common there, or Spanish Colonial (frontier Baroque). The west was settled during the Victorian era so combine rugged western materials with Spanish vaquero, First Nation and Victorian style and you have southern Arizona. Add in a lot of avant- guard artists and you’ll see Western Goth. I think they are putting a name to a style that already exists in the artsy west but is escaping its original area. Retablos, Nichos, Cristos Negros, carvings of Saints and other Spanish Colonial religious art, deep velvet with silver embellishments, baroque shapes in wrought iron… this is just normal stuff in Arizona, New Mexico, west Texas…
Loved, loved, loved Yellowstone and 1883. Haven't seen 1923. I live in Montana near the areas where a lot of the filming was done. The Western style isn't for me personally, but I do like it a lot. I think you have to have a certain style house for it to really work well. My 1980 ranch style home wouldn't work with that style!
I love my auto open trash can 😊 very practical and nice looking . Not gimmicky.
I have 3 from Simple Human in my home and couldn't live without them.
After watching Yellowstone my husband bought a cowboy hat! We live in NJ & no one here wears that. 😂😂
Im a Pisces, the sign of the fish, and I still say No the aquatic decor!
Ralph Lauren is tried and true. I don’t think anyone can replicate that style. As for the trends you showed? Awful! Only thing I can think with the aquariums is people are searching for calm, maybe subconsciously? ❤
No beach decor in the Midwest. Signs saying “to the beach” are silly.
Also...
1. I think the whole Gothic Western vibe is interesting, but probably not going to be a widespread thing, since good design reflects where you are and who you are, and honestly most "places" aren't "out west."
2. Well-maintained aquariums are far from depressing, at least for those of us who have fish that have been around for 3, 7, 9yrs... They're also fantastic for families with younger kids, as watching the fish swim can be very emotionally regulating. They're a lot of work, for sure, but done WELL I think it's worth it. Speaking entirely from my own experience 😂 take my experience with a grain of salt though, as we have twin 8yr olds, 2 golden retrievers, 2 cats, and 21 fish, and it takes a LOT of work to keep things "well-maintained" and looking nice.
3. As a millennial, I also don't welcome "kitsch" in my house. It feels very plastic and artificial and almost contrary to the whole point of trying to build a lasting/sustainable/high quality cohesive home.
Happy New Year, Valentina. Being more traditional/classic these would not be for me. I can appreciate the Western style, actually like it if I had a cabin somewhere. Aqua texture, a bit mental….😂 Sorry. Go to the aquarium if you need to chill out with fish and water. Trends are usually silly. Furniture should be high quality, long lasting and able to be passed down to the next generation. I think your home has turned out beautifully. The exterior looks great. Looking forward to your interior plans for the new year. The paint color video was good.
I agree with you about the aquatics, you really have to be dedicated and committed to it in the long-term, if not, then don't go there!
We are in Santa Fe and luxe western is ubiquitous.
I love color but in the traditional sense not the boho but whatever, I am so not a kitchen gadget person. I still make toast in my skillet just like my mom taught me.
I successfully got the giant fish tank moved upstairs into hubby’s office! 😳👍🏼
Absolutely no fish tanks! Been there done that!!
I also say “no” to any theme rooms. Just a dab will do it. I don’t want to look like a scene from Yellowstone. A few pieces? Ok.. a mean a FEW. I still love my cowhide rug for example. I say this as an equestrian. 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Valentina I love your content ❤I live in Arizona I love it here the best place to visit is Sedona look it up you will love it!to come visit its better in off seasons to avoid tourist there is pink jeep company that take you on mountain trips it would be a good one for your kids also you might want to invest in some cowboy boots!😅
Fun video, I like the western goth idea, it will be an interesting one to keep an eye on. Love Yellowstone, Ralph Lauren, horses and the romance of a simpler time (Ha!). I'm with you Valentina, when our last goldfish died I felt sad and guilty about his being alone in a bowl for so long . . .did he die of loneliness or was the bowl too small?
Fish hospice 😂😂😂
My daughters husb ( x now) has indian is just different when u meet or hear greatgreatgreat grandpa White feather ☺️ my grandkids lol have to remember so many others ,nana, noni, abuela, abuelo etc..😊
We buy beautiful quality furniture, but we bought a little table for our garden from Home Goods. It broke within a few weeks. No more cheap furniture!
I would be afraid to buy furniture that one would sit on from Amazon. I did buy a glass unit for the pantry & it’s fine. We just purchased, from a furniture store, new dining set and office furniture. I had to sell my beautiful 20 year old dining set. It was too orange tone for this open floor plan. It made me sad.
I agree with you on the fish tanks. I mean no harm to anyone who has them, but seeing a fish in a glass tank breaks my heart. Don't get me started on fishbowls.
We live in New Mexico, and our decor is Western (without the Gothic). Leather furniture, fine-crafted wood tables, Navajo rugs hanging on the walls, and local artists' paintings and sketches. When you live in an adobe-built house, windows are few, spread out, and small; therefore, there is NO Gothic Black! The walls are plaster white. It is very comfortable to live in and hang out with friends. Oh, the floors are brick (not the color, the real thing. Pick up a brick, and it is dirt all the way to China). My Koi live outside in a huge pond.
Western gothic…. I’m here fir it 🤛🏻😍🔥🇬🇧xxx
I live in FL. If i want check out sea life, I'll head to the local creek 😂
