    Great review! I've watched a lot of safe review videos this year in the course of purchasing my own Liberty safe and you've gone into much more detail than any of them.

    Liberty should have known about correct packing their product for shipment so a lock of all things doesn't get compromised. An easy fix at Liberty. Thanks for posting. Enjoy the safe.

    I got a Liberty Fat Boy Jr as well after much research. So glad I did.
    Amazed about how many people bought electronic entry pads. Electronic entry is nice, but can and will fail by corrosion or other means--just google and read the reviews. Lifetime warranty by the manufacturer--until the manufacturer goes out of business or the unit is a discontinued model? What happens in 10 or 15 years down the road? Today's gun safes are made by smart engineers that don't think like unforgiving burglars. When burglars broke into my car--they weren’t forgiving and neither will they be when they break into your house or attempt to crack your safe. The electronic keypad entry (brains) is connected to the functional safe (body) by a small wire--burglars can pull this wire and you have an expensive and nice 800-1,000 lb garage/room decor--especially if the wire is disconnected inside the safe. Cost to you? A $350 locksmith bill. Burglars can't get access in and neither can you or the manufacturer. Engineers must come up with a second entry access. Until then, don't buy electronic entry locks that can and will fail. Buy a traditional dial combination with key lock safe like the above.

    was going to buy a fatboy jr because of this exact review, but i went with the fatboy instead for the little more features and i LOVE it. Did a quick review on it, hopefully my video puts more of these awesome safes in peoples homes. Best bang for your buck!

    It would be nice if he or Liberty Safe would say exactly how much steel is in the door, not just how thick the composite is. Both the reviewer and the Safe Company comment on the gauge of the body but not the door. In order to resist prying by a large individual or two individuals wirh crowbars you need 1/4 inch of solid steel in the door.

    I wonder how many cut off wheels it would take to get through 11g steel

    The Best things that this safe has going for it are (if installed right), the weight, bolting it down, and being on a second story. However if a criminal catches wind you’re on vacation and you don’t use other measures of security, a 7” grinder would make easy work of this safe. That’s not to discredit the safe. If someone’s safe is broken into (ie cut or pried) that’s human error. No safe is impenetrable or burglar free. Keeping your stuff from being stolen is 90% being pro active such as arming your house with an audible alarm, bolting down your safe, etc.
    If all you can do is store a safe in your garage, at least bolt it down. Put a GPS in your safe. A 200-300lbs 10 gun safe can be rocked back and forth to snap/strip the bolts securing it to the floor and then hauled off with a dolly in minutes.
    Be smart. Don’t get lazy. People often say they don’t want to rely on batteries for their gun safes access. Well, with any security device, it should be inspected for function and condition on a very regular basis. If not, then you clearly don’t value your items that much. Your batteries should be maintained in your keypad and your GPS. If you have enough conscience to check your dehumidifier packs, you have enough conscience to check the batteries.
    People mention buttons wear down on a key pad. Yes that’s true. But you should change your code somewhat frequently whether you have a dial safe or a keypad.

    Nice safe, just like other ones I seen here,,really nice, but most don't go thru the body details, the side walls thickness, I seen some videos of people cutting open the sides with just a simple inexpensive cheap mini grinder...can you relate to the wall thickness?

    • @tdb19872
      @tdb19872 2 года назад

      This is a 12 gauge safe, which means about .104" thick. It can be cut with tin snips.

    I had the same thing happen. I bought a Pentagon safe probably 10 years ago and I couldn't get into it...something broke inside during transit. Pentagon paid a locksmith to come out and try to fix it, (he couldn't), then they paid to replace the whole safe. I couldn't have asked for anything more.

    Have you tried liberty rifle rods? they work great when you have a lot of long guns and you don't want them to touch. I have a liberty Lincoln thirty and with rifle rods I have 17 long guns on one side 10 with scopes and still have room for 2 more guns.

    For reinforcement of the sides and top, encase with at-least 12" of high strength concrete with multiple layers of steel mesh. Not standard concrete must be the high strength. Buy one bag of what the home improvement stores sell as high strength and do a test before you buy all what you will need. Fill and "compact" a coffee can of something bigger but not smaller, vibrate, tap, get the air bubbles out then let it set for a month or 2. With a sledge hammer use light hits at first building to harder hits. It should only break with very hard hits those bags are the ones to use. With a few layers of steel reinforcing mesh it will be a hard all day job with a lunch break in-between getting into the sides or top.
    Added protection; drill holes in the 3/4 plywood forms and place concrete anchor bolts on each side and top. After the concrete has set, bolt metal storage lockers to each side and some kind of metal box to the top. Tack weld or mushroom the bolts to the nuts so they will have to grind every bolt to get the storage lockers out of the way before the first hammer swing. Noway would anyone try to get through the sides or top when well reinforced. Now the front is the weakest point. My Liberty safe the most steel is in the door. With 10 locking bolts on the sides and one on the top and bottom nobody is going to pry it open with a bar.

    • @tdb19872
      @tdb19872 2 года назад

      Pretty sure they'd just cut or pry open the flimsy 12 gauge sheet metal door...

    I got the Winchester 26 gun safe and love it. Paid $449. It’s bigger than I wanted. Has fire rating and is perfect for what I need.
    It took me and 2 other guys to move my 400 lbs safe. With guns and ammo it’s going to be well over 500 lbs. it’s going to take someone some time to move it out of this house. I don’t see the point of bolting it down if it weighs over 500 lbs. I’d catch the bad guys before they took it weighing this much

    • @goforbroke2
      @goforbroke2 4 года назад +1

      Zachary Wright
      You bolt it down so thieves can’t push it over on its side. You have a lot more leverage to pry open the door while it’s laying down on its side, opposed to standing up. The first thing thieves do to a safe is push it over(if they can) dozens of RUclips videos on this.

    I have delivered and moved a BUNCH of Liberty safes over the years so I know a lot about all of their safes. With that in mind, excellent review and rundown of the Fat Boy Jr. However, you did forget to mention one important selling point about Liberty safes. Their lifetime warranty (you must register your safe with Liberty for it to be in effect) is transferable, at no cost, if you ever sell your safe. It would be best if you called Liberty with the new owner next to you for the smoothest transfer. So far I've swapped 3 under warranty, one for a lock issue and two for attempted break in. Attempted, not successful.

    Do you have to drill to access the electrical hole???

    • @biz4twobiz463
      @biz4twobiz463 4 года назад +1

      No. Actually, using a utility knife, just cut away the liner material to reveal the hole. On the back, the plate that is there simply pops off with a screw driver. Now you have a pass-through. Once you assemble the Liberty electrical kit (based on your thickness of safe), it literally takes less than 3 minutes to install.

    Nobody is going to get a crew and waste time trying to lift a 1000 pound safe (once loaded up with firearms) into a truck...it's too risky....real reason to bolt a safe down, is so it can't be tipped over....once a safe is tipped over, all it needs after that is 2 minutes, and 2 grown men (it's all about having enough pry space and leverage)....one with a 5 ft crowbar and the other with a 3 foot....your safe is only as good as the metal inside the door where the lugs lock behind...if you can bend that metal it's game over....safes aren't meant to keep burglars out....they're meant to slow them down enough where they either give up, or run off before authorities can get there unfortunately...great review though....bought a fatboy jr because of this

    I purchased a Colonial 50 on lay away, and will receive it in 3 weeks. Got a really good deal at our local sporting goods store that is a distributor for Liberty safes. I'm looking forward to getting it, the one question I have is the bolt down kit good for concrete, cause I am putting it in my basement and was wondering if I needed different anchors for it? Awesome review...

    Another thing I notice and don't like, is that they call them 12-20-40-60 gun fit,,,but of course this are the smallest and thinnest guns you can find,,,cause I bought one for 24 long guns and kind of full at about 12 guns already, and do understand with scopes and slings they take extra room but them being called for that many guns,,is just like new cars claiming 30mpg on the window sticker,,,you will never get that much once you buy it....

    Great review as always Mrgunsngear! It sounds like the Fatboy Jr. is a great safe. I do have a couple of questions about installation. Do all Liberty Safes swing open to the right as shown in your video?
    My next question might not be applicable to the safe in your review but I'm wondering could certain sizes of safes may tip over when you open the door? I would think this may be possible especially if the dimensions of the safe are a lot wider than the safe is deep and the interior of the door is loaded down with handguns, loaded magazines and such before opening the safe. Have you heard of anything where the weight or other physical dimensions might require the safe to be bolted down?

    Security Containers like this work great for keeping your average smash and grab burglers as well as kids away from your potentially dangerous and or valuable items. If you live in an area where police and fire response time would be greater than 20min. I would highly suggest investing in a Safe with more security and fire features. Start with Superior & Champion as well as Vault Pro safe company's and if you find you need more, go to Graffunder or Brown Safes and Vaults. There are also many TL-15 & TL-30 safe manufacturers out there that are high quality. Do your research people. Know what you are buying and can realistically expect from that fancy box.

      The Amsec BF has better security than your average champion...it starts with half inch plate steel door..mine has 11 ga. Outer 1/4 inch inner vault with a cement type poured fire barrier between...the only one that comes close to the security of the Amsec BF is Superiors newest top of the line
      ....as far as liberty theyre the worst !

    Oh my gosh, God forbid you actually had to use the warranty,so I guess this dubs the Liberty Fat Boy Jr. safe as a piece of junk to other's that have selected a different manufacture brand of safe,you get what you pay for now. It failed the torture test of faulty shipping and now it is pure junk. Does not matter hundreds/thousands of people have not had one single problem with their Fat Boy Jr. safe. If you have not noticed yet this is pure sarcasm,sarcasm,sarcasm for the fanboys of specific firearms or what ever they choose is nothing but the best in their pathetic little mind, you know who you are lol. Ok back to reality, thank you for the good review on the Liberty Fat Boy Jr. safe, I'm researching safes for myself and the Liberty's seem to be well built.

      @A00-s7p 5 лет назад +1

      A B That’s really thin this shouldn’t be considered a safe it should be considered a gun cabinet for real security you have to have at least a half inch of solid steal in the body and door

    • @Cdub33
      @Cdub33 4 года назад +1

      A 00 they aren’t safes. They security containers as he noted. It says so on the inside of door. Most people can’t afford a true safe. You’d need some serious money to buy a safe with say some 1/4 inch steel all around and in door. Plus the weight would be crazy. Still, if you can afford that type of safe and want that type of security, go for it.

  • @ramohino

    My Winchester electronic lock failed on the inside. They sent me a piece of crap plastic NL to replace piece of 💩 Lagard keypad but that did not work. The main problem with these people is you can't get to customer service when electronic lock stops working. I will do a video of the safe getting drilled and opened because I can't get any help. I will then weld some plate tool on inside of door where it was drilled and then I will replace the key pad with SafeLogic Xtreme emp resistance electronic and mechanical lock. I urge anyone thinking about buying a Winchester to call them first and see how many days and calls it takes to talk to someone.

      A slicer wheel on a Metabo will cut through the side of that 11g sheet metal like butter. I could be into that so called "safe" in 3 minutes or less. Two thieves with Metabos and within 3 min everything inside will be gone. That thing is nothing more than an image of security. Residential home fires burn much hotter than 1200F statistically for more than 60 min. That is at best a something is better than nothing container.

    • @Heiserton
      @Heiserton 7 лет назад +2

      That's why they're considered Residential Security containers and not safes. "Safe" is just a commonly used word for them. Any safe can be broken into, they key to them is to buy time, not protect perfectly.

      $1000 for less than 3 min... Be my guest. 3-4k will buy a quality American made custom vault that can withstand 2000+ degrees for 2 or more hours and take 30 min or more to cut into. But there is a plenty of people that are too cheap and or uneducated to spend the little extra to buy quality. The "safe" in this review is a total joke and waste of money period.
