I don'tthink post stalls are important anyway, BVR warfare was clearly the future since the advent of guided missiles, it just took a couple decades of refining.

While there, got to see last 4 F-15's on production line, as it was phased out. What a difference 20 years make... now F/A-18's are being phased out and the F-15's have a brand new future.

The day the Thunderbirds retire the F16 is going to be an extremely sad day. No doubt they'll go with the F35 (or even NGAD, provided the right timeline). We're approaching the end of an era. The F16 is just _the_ fighter jet, at least to me.
They say it's a new platform, they built it from the ground up. But they could not be bothered to change or angle the VSTABS or add any stealth features. It looks like a small B-52 on radar.
yeah it's not meant to be stealthy lol, they only use the F15 against middle eastern terrorists who don't even have radars, what do you need stealth for? If you want stealth, fly an F22 or F35. They're wildly superior to the F15 in almost every way (excepting CPFH).
Pre-merger Grumman proposed a highly upgraded F-14 called the Super Tomcat 21. The site The Warzone had a great story about it under this title "This Is What Grumman’s Proposed F-14 Super Tomcat 21 Would Have Actually Looked Like". Do a search for it. After reading it you'll want to cry thinking we should've had this plane, not the Super Hornet.
@@MetaliCanuck eh not really lies, the f14 really did some roles better than the f18 late in its career like dropping ordinance on bad guys in the middle east and kosovo. But if you're referring to a good ol' dogfight then yeah the f18 could always pull more AoA than the f14. My uncle told me a funny story about his CO asking him to escort his flight of 18's that were delivering ordinance into bad guy country after being lit up by bad guys' radars that were trying to intercept them.

Why do you think the U.S. invested so much in the AIM-54s and _only_ tried fitting them to the F14? The F14 couldn't even use AMRAAMs. It couldn't do modern BVR with AIM-7s and 9Es, and seeing as the Phoenix program was a failure, that leaves the F14 with *no Fox 3s.* You have a serious case of Top-Gun-Syndrome. The F18 was better in almost every way. BVR, BFM, etc, etc. As for that story, it means nothing. F14 or F18, a radar is going to ping you and your RWR is going to light up like a christmas tree. No fighter pilot wants to be alone in the sky, regardless of what plane they're flying.

You don't need an expensive F35 with all of the stealth capabilities when your main target is a bunch of illiterate middle eastern terrorists that can barely assemble an IED properly, let alone dish sites, SAM sites, and ECM sites. Logistically, the F15 just makes sense. The CPFH of the F15 is still around less than $30k, while the F35 remains above $40k. Now, if we throw SU35s in the mix (or even china's little J16s), then yes, we might consider using an F35A instead. Run a clean build with internals only, and you can minimize RCS (especially nose-on) and lob 120Ds from a bajillion miles away all while remaining largely undetected on radar. But the Taliban doesn't have stealth fighters and advanced SAMs. All you need is a cheap fighter to fly over the desert, drop a few GBU-12s, and fly back. Don't risk your crown jewel on easy meat. _That_ is why the F15 remains in service, despite us having vastly superior planes.
