Some of the shots the german crew got on this capture phish in their divine. They did an amazing job with the sound quality too. I got this VHS from the only place in Chattanooga that sold such stuff, Grumpies. They had tapes, too. But i got this on Christmas in '98 and felt an incredible surge of excellence soaking me because I was now able to WATCH my favorite band whenever I wanted. And I find this show great enough to listen to, and watch, over and over and over... Thanks for posting! I lost the VHS.
I actually recorded this very wdr concert on vhd back then. Guelah Papyrus was such an inspiration to this day for me. Thanks for upploading this track!
My favorite years are 95 - 99, where their sound changed from mastery of more straight ahead rock n' roll to funkified in 97 / 98 and then changing yet again in 99 and 2000. I still think Phish is very very good but I think the mid - late 90s were their peak, akin to the Dead from 1972 - 74. Today's Phish is sorta analogous to 1977 Dead, where the performances were both more consistent but not as adventurous. I am impressed with the return of long form interesting jams such as in Simple and Tweezer this summer tour.
For my money, Phish 92-97 was the most dangerous band this planet has ever seen. Ferocious!
I would argue that was Oasis. But Phish def was favored in America.
1998 and cypress hill werent shabby either lol safe to say 1992-2000 phish fucking owned like absolutely no comparison to anything else
@@brandonparish5229 oasis was HUGE like 95’-98’ arguably biggest in the world
gonna say I love 98-2000, Hampton 98, big cypress 99, Japan 2000 and plenty other worthwhile shows
With special emphasis on '94 and '97 for me.
You know it’s gotta be a great show when trey wears his Marvin the Martian shirt.
Thanks for the post. Btw. The mix is fantastic
Marvin shirt Trey = backwards hat JB
Hampton 98 night 1 I think he wore it. Wore Pepe Le Pew for Atlanta 97. The Looney Toons shirts were at a really good time for the band.

I used to drive 2 hours and pay NYC Bridge tolls to drive to the one store in long Island that sold tapes of phish....those were the days
I agree it’s really well edited and shot
46:09 !! It's just poetic camerawork! What a slow, perfectly timed pull in. It's like Trey and the camera operator huddled up preshow. Epicnessssss
The energy at this show is great and it comes out in the music, best European show I've seen video of.
This show and recording is awesome
Tweezer jam that starts at 42:00 is mad slept on
I had this on VHS back in the day. So good.
I had it as well. Bought it at a horror movie convention in Ohio of all places.
me too I remember paying $50 for it!

That Theme is off the charts good
I had this on vhs. Incredible show
51:51 end of waste jam starts
Great upload and such an intimate show which you seldom see recorded so well. Many thanks.
Beauty of my dreams!!! How damn good. The whole concert though is awesome. Thanks for the upload!
They should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for that Theme alone.
Trey looks like he's in a different plane of existence @ 24:36
((((Trey face)))))
Oh yeah baby
I like when trey helped with percussions!
Wow, good times!
2:13:30 onward to the 2:14:00 mark is just so fucking good. Beyond locked in.
nice callout

This whole thing is great and high intensity all the way until the Theme where Trey slays it like he’s on a mission from god
I couldn't agree more.
This TFTB is wonderful in spite of it missing that little intro to the solo I usually enjoy so much
it's got that encore energy it rarely gets, and I hope they encore it in 2 nights :)
@@ocoeepicture enjoy the show.....dance a bit for me
When Trey plays percussion = above average Phish always
That freakin Guelah
46:08
43:43 for the Trey slay.
I broke my rewind button
STILL. FUCKING. SLAYS.
I feel like I was in a fist fight after that tweezer!
Best band ever
This Day In Phishtory is why I am here today!

1:19:47 Is that Antelope Greg in the front with his arm up?
I have the perfect picture that would demonstrate the answer is yes. This is the night I first met him actually.
Now that I see Greg in this video, I realize I was next to him on 12/31/97 in MSG. He was wild!
even closer at 1:18:56
Fishman looks like Brian Wilson
43:56
This is amazing but does anyone know if there’s footage of the next show the following day? 2/17/97
Aka the best phish set of all time.
can't beat 97 phish
