Absolutely protect children and teens of both sex. But two consenting adults should be left to do as they wish, in the light of day or the dark of night. There will always be a need for sex workers. Forcing them underground will only cause more problems for everyone.

Of course the State should protect children and teens. However, since when prohibiting something like drugs, pornography, alcohol or prostitution has ever worked? If an adult wants to be a sex worker, he should have the right for being it. Paternalistic laws are only favourable to mafias and criminals. We should have laws that protect sex workers, not laws that leave them on the streets at risk.

I don't really understand the cross section with the adult sex work world here. Sex work and child trafficking are too vastly different things. The problem with this bill is that it is too broadly written and directly affects sex worker without hurting child traffickers very much.
I'd argue to decriminalize and regulate sex work while holding tech companies liable for illegal content with financial incentives such as fines. We fine companies for polluting into a river, why not do the same for tech companies?
This really seems less of a concern for children and more of a concern for cultural targets and to silence free speech on the internet. There's nothing wrong with sex work between consenting adults and that has nothing to do with child trafficking.

The social media companies know everything about their users, and a lot about people who have never even signed up. Certainly if they can track on that scale, they can manage to keep an eye out for overt displays of illegal activity. I'm sure some very subtle or coded discussions may slip by, not because the companies can't figure it out but because they are too lazy to, but at least the adverts and agencies would be snuffed out.

"Prostitution or sex trafficking" Is the sentence that summarizes the issue. You will not help trafficking victims by forcing sex workers out of the light into dark corners where their customers will dare approach them, when prostitution is a crime, the people buying will become violent and dangerous.

  • @njhawksworth1588
    @njhawksworth1588 4 года назад +1

A lot of people are saying we should let the adults do what they want. I would agree, except for the fact many or in some cases most of the adult prostitutes advertised online are trafficking victims. Being an adult doesn't mean you're doing this willingly. A lot of the women who appear in ads and are put for sale were trafficked from other countries, lured with promises of good jobs and opportunities. This is particularly true when it's Eastern European women and Asian women being prostituted in the West, though it can happen to women in their home countries as well. Even those who might enter prostitution willingly often end up controlled by a pimp or agency and have no autonomy or right to say no, and are given little of the money paid for them.
In counties or regions where prostitution is not legal, social media companies should be deleting accounts that post ads for prostitution, just as they should police their platform for ads for drugs or calls for violence. If they knowingly allow crime to be advertised and committed, they are responsible. In countries with legal prostitution, the tech companies could require the licensing information or other data to ensure the company or individual selling was legal and everyone involved willing. These companies make billions largely through exploiting their user's privacy. They know where you are and what you're doing. They can easily police their own sites and purge or report accounts linked to illegal or suspicious activity.

When it is consensual and in good conditions there is not really anything wrong with it outside of peoples judgement. It would be better for everyone to decriminalize it. And I don't say legalization. Because legalization comes with a lot of rules and paperwork and workplaces which are all things that require money and the most vulnerable sex workers don't have money and sometimes not even citizenship. So this creates a black and a white market in which the most vulnerable people are the ones that are still worst off. We need to start listening to people whom are actually affected by the laws around this.

I was child sex trafficked thru the phone line men calling asking for a Kathy's or Yvonne which were names of elder cousins I had residing in Baldwin Park California but these cousins didn't reside with us.

At the end of the day, parents need to parent. Be aware of what your children are doing. Foster a good enough relationship so that there's trust between you and they share with you. I really hate to see that this affects harm reduction in circles that really need it, and that's honestly bullshit. I feel SO strongly abour harm reduction and could go on for ages about it's importance and the ripple effect across communities, but for what? 😒 Stay well & Stay safe, everyone. Thank you to the ladies shown here, and all other's who have participated in running harm reduction programs. You guy's are the best, and literal life saver's. 😊💖 *If ur someone seeking harm reduction services, or curious about the services, google ur city + "harm reduction", or the biggest city near you*.
Austin has the AHRC (Austin Harm Reduction Coalition). They have a website with their schedule. Not sure how the pandemic has affected them, but perhaps the website holds an update. If ur not one seeking services, you can also make donations to HR programs. There's usually info on their site, or u can directly ask. AHRC takes monetary donations, but also has an Amazon wishlist for goods they typically keep in rotation. Donate your time, even! (maybe when thing's are safer??) Save a Life. 🙂 (And wear a mask) XO💖

There is a hotel in Dallas to look at! Days Inn 3645 Leon Rd, Garland, TX 75041. They are trafficking there and the police department at the very least looks the other way!! I stayed there and woke up to a screaming in a room below mine, I forced the front desk to call the police and nothing came of it. I later heard from a local that the area has underground gambling, sex trafficking, and the police are in on the action!

I believe in legalizing and regulating sex work for adults. And yes, child sex trafficking is wrong and we should stop it. However it seems that people are forgetting that children are not the only people being trafficked. It's not just child sex trafficking vs adult consensual sex work. It's all sex trafficking that's a problem.

"technically providing harm-reduction services like providing food, and a condoms, and safety information to people who are trading sex at the street level could be construed as soliciting prostitution online."
there is absolutely no way that would ever be construed as soliciting prostitution (either online or in person). you're giving people food, condoms, and safety information not paying them for sex.. there's something else happening that she isn't talking about, because there's literally no reason why promoting a non-profit online would be a problem. furthermore, there is no way any law enforcement agency or district attorney would ever try to prosecute a group providing help to an at-risk community. why does vice just allow people to say whatever they want without challenging them to explain it?

The thing is the law changes from state to state a lot goes like " two people exchanging goods (not only money) for sexual services" so when you give some food to a sexworker it could still be interpreted as you trying to get with him/her + in some states there will absolutley be people who'll think you're doing the devils work by helping these people also scince it's illegal but no you're right they're prob just spewing bs and lying about how hard it is to help at risk people (only 'at risk because it's illegal) so they can feel better abt themselves right?

I'm not saying that facebook should turn a blind eye, but to say it's facebooks fault isn't really improving the problem... even if you get it off facebook, it will just happen somewhere else. Maybe the best attempt at a solution would be to educate? So people know what to look out for?

  • @saralee6710

I am happy someone is making a top down argument, which focuses less on punishing the victim and more on the facilitators. Going further, there needs to be a much greater target on the consumer. Many are surprised to know that the penalties for what is considered mild sexual offenses to a child (whatever tf that would be, as ALL sexual anything with a child is a major assault), carry relatively low sentences if any. The child or trafficked individual has a lifetime of scarring, while the offender may be a dot on a map for a few years. If the penalty for sex offenses against a child or trafficked person equated murder sentences (as they do kill a portion of their victims), the demand would go down greatly and lessen the supply. Anyone willing to give up their life to harm a child would deserve life in prison anyhow.

Electricity can be deadly but with safety standards created by industry that risk can be negated. Literally gas can be harmful but gas companies have created safety courses. Vice get better objective "experts" not a clear biased CEO who has profits from selling the exact progams that eliminated online privacy. Also him saying Tech has no financial incentive for policing there product shows clear bias when he has a incentive to sell programs to do that job for them. Really Vice you should feel ashamed and no you're standards are writing bias stories.

No employee or program can police social media well because of to many users, the way forward is kicking the DOJ, and law enforcement in the ads to pursue the people behind those accounts. How about for larger trained cyber crimes units and teaching the public internet safety through a national compagin.
