Thank you so much for posting this - it was very helpful! I did run into a problem and I was wondering if you (or anyone else) have any suggestions. I have a macbook 3,1 which had Lion on it and needed an update. I found your El Capitan video you posted and decided to give it a go - I followed all the steps outlined and everything booted up and worked great ! The one issue that I’m having is the black screen after sleep/lid being closed - which I cannot figure out how to fix. I tried all the suggestions I saw posted in various places, including resetting PRAM, SMC, deep sleep and hibernation set to zero, setting the correct boot drive default, putting in password, key combinations with no luck. (I make no guarantee that I tried all of them correctly - so I am willing to try them again if suggested) The computer wakes up, but the monitor does not - the fan is on and the caps lock turns green - so I know it's on. Short of forced shut down - nothing else brings it back. This is not a hardware issue (at least I don’t think) - since it goes to sleep and wakes up without any issues on the Lion partition. Not sure if you have any suggestions short of turning off sleep mode and having to shut it down every time I want to close the lid. Has anyone with an older macbook installed El Capitan and did not have issues with the black screen after sleep/closing lid? I’m thinking of just starting over with the install and hope for a different outcome. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
@@Txm_Dxr_Bxss Thank you. With this functionality not working do you just shut down the computer every time you walk away from it or is there another way that I am missing? Someone has an idea? 10.5.8 is reallu unusable. But it's looks impossible to find a way to install OS X 10.6 on it too, only a CD on Ebay look to be the way to update this really old machine.
Ah, yea with the Core Duo (or any 32bit CPU) maximum is OS X 10.6.8 so this method definitely wont work, burning a DVD with Snow Leopard is prolly your best bet for that machine.. unless you want to replace the CPU which should be possible but would take a bit of doing
@@WindowsG Hello there, I searched a lot about solution and find the same answer you just told me. I bought 64Bits CPU CORE 2 DUO on ebay ! And with more RAM. Now I'm waiting to receive it

It's a macbook 4.1 (so should be stuck to Lion or not use macOS but I have Mountain Lion running just like it would if it was officially supported, proves that Apple dropped support for no reason here).
Unless someone finds a way to patch the kernel to 32 bit , the x3100 graphics won't work . I don't mean the 32 bit efi , the kernel has to match In 32 bits because they only made x3100 acceleration to work with that and not in 64 bit kernel , or efi.
Yea , but the only reason why x3100 graphics would work on a 2007 MacBook with Mountain lion is by using the patch , or installer that switches the x64 kernel back to 32 . thats why the x3100 graphics works then. Hey , how do you feel about running Mountain lion nowadays. is it safe enough to do .

Same. 1gen Macbook Air crashes during install before selecting install target. Currently running Lion.
Thank you.
disable sleep mode. It won't work due to missing kext support.
@@Txm_Dxr_Bxss Thank you. With this functionality not working do you just shut down the computer every time you walk away from it or is there another way that I am missing? Does it always stay on, or is there a way to make it not go into sleep mode when the lid is closed? Right now if the lid is closed the only way it can come back is with a hard restart. Started reading up on kext - thank you for bringing it up. So is this a limitation of the patcher, the unsupported mac, both? Thank you!
@@matultau7095 A kext is a Kernel EXTension, basically has similar functions as a driver on Windows. Yes. You have to turn it off. I think brightness control and any 3D acceleration doesn't work on the GMA X3100 either, in addition to the missing transparency effects shown in the video.
Use a tool to disable the lid

I have a MacBook 2,1 collecting dust and thinking of trying this. I tried to do more research and read about issues with graphics acceleration, whatever that means, and so much more jargon I don’t understand. I just want to know, if I try this, would I be able to use the webcam or FaceTime? and will the screen turn off when I close the shell?

does imac 4.1 work?
Hmm I have a 24 inch model with the nvidia 7300 gt, do you by any chance know if that one has graphics acceleration or works with the patcher at all? Thanks!
hmmm.. with the bit of research i did your 7300 GT (should?) have about the same level of 'acceleration' as my GMA 950 in this video.. at least in theory i dont have one to test. However i do have a desktop sized 7300 GT i will test in a future video :3 as for the patcher your iMac 6,1 isnt on the official compatibility list but looking at everymac it should work just fine. Good luck!~
@@WindowsG Okay thank you so so much for the reply! I will try it out and see how it goes. If it doesn’t work out I’ll probably just do mavericks. Lion performance actually isn’t too bad on mine but the slow af launchpad problem you had is still present even on my higher end model haha. And I’m looking forward to seeing your video about the 7300 gt!
Does not seem to work for 6’1 2006 late 24 inch 2.16 with geforce unfortunately.
Hmm, this is the same iMac I have, with the geforce 7300. wondering if just going to Mountain lion from Lion would be best option

HI, i don't know but my iMac 5,2 random reboots when installing 10.11. Can you help? My procesor is Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 GB of RAM. I am very sad of this bc i buy this imac for this. If you can help it will be great!
Same. 1gen Macbook Air crashes during install.
Hey, I try to do it with an 4,1 iMac with Intel Code Duo (32bits) with Mac OS X 10.5.8 on it. And sadly, when I choose the USB on the boot menu, a folder icon with a question mark appears...
Now I'm waiting to receive it
@@louco714 you can't replace the CPU, it's soldered on. Your best bet for 64 bit on that laptop is to get a late 2006 or 2007 logic board with a 1.83, 2 or 2.17GHz. But what's the point? You could just buy another laptop at that point.
HI, i did the process but when i boot the macbook 3.1 it appears the apple logo and then i got stuck into a gray screen, anyone can help me?
Same problem! Did you manage to solve it?
After I patched it, my iMac keeps booting into OS X Utilities (recovery mode). What do I need to do?
My MacBook 2,1 was stuck in a boot loop too. Try to run the patch again.
Hello. First of all thank you very much. I try to do it in a macbook 4,1, 64bits early 2008 black, with 3gb ram and HDD 250gb mechanical, with Lion installed. But when I choose the pendrive on the boot menu, a forbidden symbol appears in the center of the screen instead of the Apple. Do you have any ideas of how to solve it?
Hm.. maybe try formatting the thumb drive and imaging it again? if not than I'd try redownloading or trying a different thumb drive. The prohibited symbol usually means it can't access the filesystem
@@WindowsG Thank you very much for answering. I'm going to try that

I got 10.8 Mountain Lion to work with graphics acceleration. Will try to get it on El Capitan, otherwise I will try Yosemite and Mavericks.
I don't mean the 32 bit efi , the kernel has to match
In 32 bits because they only made x3100 acceleration to work with that and not in 64 bit kernel , or efi.
@@inspirationtoday7550 but how would you get a 32 bits kernel on El Cap?
Yea , but the only reason why x3100 graphics would work on a 2007 MacBook with Mountain lion is by using the patch , or installer that switches the x64 kernel back to 32 . thats why the x3100 graphics works then. Hey , how do you feel about running Mountain lion nowadays.
