ANGRY AUSTRALIAN MAN MENTIONED🫡🫡🗣️🗣️🗣️
am I the first person to get this referance
I really liked the Skeuomorphism style. Especially the notification bars w/ that blue and white barber shop pattern and the "gel" look.
This is awesome. Who would have guessed that vintage computing would be this cool. Thanks for posting this.
This is absolutely NOT "vintage" computing.
The G4 was such a cool but weird era of Apple (2002-2006). I really liked the clean white vibe Jony Ive was going for but the screen ratios were really really weird. So much so that I remember some websites used to actually redirect you to a Macbook-specific website just so it would work with screen ratios compared to PC monitors. Sorbet Leopard brought life back into an OG clamshell that was running Jaguar so props.
Wasn't 4:3 the industry standard at the time though?
@@hazridge I'm pretty sure it was, I have some laptops from that era, and even older, and they all seem to have a 4:3 aspect ratio (I haven't been able to verify every one of them though)
@@hazridge4:3 was for a while, but when LCD technology was main streamed by LG back in 1998 it instantly was switched to 16:9. Apple stuck with some weird 4:8 resolution for another couple of years.
@@hazridge Epson, LG and Casio helped mainstream LCD's and Espon were the first folks to introduce 16:9 - This was back when LG stood for Lucky Goldstar instead of Life's Good mind you.
@@comedicsketches Myspace and HP used to redirect you to media width specific websites for 4:3 Mac's.
I'd love to see a video bench marking and comparing the performance of Sorbet Leopard to regular leopard, and how the different modifications like the new theme and disabling indexing or shadows affect performance.
I dunno, but it looks a lot slicker than 9.2 on my old G4. (Tho it got much better after I gave it a full GB of RAM ... off the shelf PC RAM.)
Wow this is the geekiest thing I've ever heard. Good work.
The MJD channel is as good as sorbet.
Yep!
Nah
It’s better
But what if you don't like sorbet
@Snetry I love Sorbet
Of course not.
He is better.
10.5.9 really does help out on PowerPC machines, I’m still using stock Leopard on my PowerBook and it works well. I’m sure though that it would be even faster with this! Also didn’t know that a project existed for Tiger as well. Tiger is already a pretty solid OS, so anything to improve on it will make it that much better!
I've never been into apple but I have been fascinated with the PPC stuff since I love 2000s tech and wondered about toying with the apple side of things. especially since it might be handy to have a machine available for random testing when I need. I'm always for things like this that improve performance on older machines :)
I already knew about the project, but seeing Michael introducing me is incredibly interesting and satisfying.
This G4 12" was my very first laptop ever. The only thing I regret the most was selling it to buy a Windows PC (I HAD to do that due to software limitations I had back in the day).... Nice to see that is people still keeping it alive, cuz was a great machine!
Same! Also nice profile picture!
Michael always unlocks a deep nostalgia for the early 2000s. I miss old RUclips.
that leopard rebirth part of the video is really cool. Man I love making old tech work like new tech
Actually really cool video. Planning on getting some of the features for 10.5.8 but will probably not install the full os as I prefer the current ui over the high sierra one(also had a really bad time with high sierra with my old 2010 MacBook Pro)
As a Flash animator, I am upset that you called Adobe Flash Player "Filezilla" :((
Jokes aside, I do get the confusion since both logos look the same far away. Other than that, it's amazing to know that there's still a community out there that holds on to the old Macs of yesterdecades.
Apple loves throwning older hardware users under the bus. Lol
NO WAY! I just installed Sorbet Lepoard on my powerbook G4 yesterday!
I recently got a Snow Leopard disc for a 2009 mac. Still a very beautiful OS.
Snow Leopard was Apple's Abbey Road. In my opinion they've been spinning their wheels since on the software front.
@@RoastBeefSandwichI swear Snow Leopard woke from sleep faster than modern macs with SSDs
Sweet Vid Michael, i was actually just looking at sorbet for my 1.46 Ghz iBook :)
I'm getting my iBook G4 14 inch 1.42ghz today and looking forward to installing Sorbet Leopard. I ordered a 1GB ram stick to bring the total to 1.5GB and installing a lot of apps from Macintosh Garden.
You're totally using my custom mock box art for the thumbnail. That's awesome, glad you liked it!
Why he doesn't heart this
Thanks for uploading this!
Can't wait to try it on my 15" PowerBook G4 1.5GHz.
Sorbet looks really snappy for running on an iBook G4. Might really be nice on an old G5 I have. If I can only solve my power supply problem.
Great video! So many memories with my G5!
This is actually so good, I have on my mac mini (A1103 1.25) with 9.2.2 os x tiger and os x sorbet leopard ggs man continue the good content
I have it on my 867mhz Power Mac G4 alongside macOS 9.2.2 and 10.4.11. I also have it on my 17” PowerBook G4 1.5ghz alongside Tiger and plan to put it on the 15” 1.25ghz model I just got.
Let's go thrifting! No wait... wrong channel. The music made me doubt if I had opened a hidden tab somewhere. Nice vid! 😊 Cool that you can breathe some life into old Macs!
This guy's voice is just so relaxing,, I love it.
Linode has sponsored you more than i can count. i guess they like you :D
I love all these videos. Keep it up!
I saw the title and I was like “what is this?” Anyway it’s cool that you brought on a mac on here because it’s been a while cool video!
That Mac OS looks so unique lookin' & beautiful honestly. ✅
Ooooo. My G4 eMac needs this
I love how the ice cream scoop on the cover look slike the BSD demon logo. nice
Thanks for this. I might try it out on my iMac G5 ALS.
love the mac os stuff, would love to see more!
what’s up michael, been a fan for a few years, love the videos great work!!
Now I'm wanting the Mac OS Grey Poupon special version.
Eevee needs HUGS
@@Margen67 Thank you. My co-worker loves Pokemon Go. Best wishes to you.
I would add, you really want to upgrade your hard disk to a solid state IDE drive… to get way better performance.
However, upgrading the hard disk in an iBook G4 is PAINFULLY DIFFICULT! Easier on the PowerBook G4
yes it really is, i broke my g3 in process of removing hard drive
Unfortunately the hard drive in my iBook G4 is dying. I’ll be buying an SSD for it to make sure I never have to open it again(or at least for a while) I already made a backup so it’ll be easy to upgrade.
@@EvilTurkeySlices good luck! Check out the iFixit guide and BE VERY CAREFUL at step 29. The connectors for the cables on the logic board are brittle and can literally pop right off. (It happened to me!) those connectors could be soldered down again and of course one could just solder the wires to the board but man what a PITA the entire operation is.
My good friend owns an auto crash repair business, I gave him my other iBook to see what he could do with the scratches on the plastic… so now mine looks NEW but I need to put an SSD in it too.
Pray for me bro :-)
Oh, I will say you can FireWire and USB boot IIRC from the iBook and PowerBook G3/G4… might be easier to just image an external SSD with whatever OS (MorphOS, Leopard, Sorbet, Debian SID, whatever) and then book from that.
Horrible slow Quantum HDD came in my G4, you could practically hear every read-write like an MFM drive. Found an IDE SSD for it and what a difference. Probably any modern drive would help, really.
A modern OS should be object oriented enough that windows don't stack on top of each other and size automatically adjusts to content but in 1985 the Amiga Workbench did that, it still didn't give the news and the temperature but he could have done it.
I got a EMAC laying around . I will try it
Bruh why the bots trying to scam me
9:03 I tested it with Sorbet Leopard and sometimes it works, so I'm guessing it's a bug with PPCStore.
It also does the same with 10.5.8 Leopard too.
Go to love Michael’s video. Been following since the pandemic and I have learned more from what I know.
6:01 🤣🤣🤣
You accidentally saying "High Leopard" reminds me of a photo someone made of "macOS High Mojave" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for posting this! I've resurrected an old Graphite PowerMac G4 and I'm going to give Sorbet Leopard a try. That said, will you be doing a follow up video on internet browsing with SoL? I've heard that you can run youtube videos using SoL. Best to you during this holiday season!
What about Safari? Has it been updated in Sorbet to support current websites?
I can’t believe he did a Mac video , am flabbergasted
Thank you, for sharing this. However, nobody on You Tube will do a slow step-by-step teaching session. About 9-months ago, I downloaded OS X Sorbet Leopard but cannot for the life of me figure out, how to get it installed. Also, where can, I go to learn about the other project updating Apple's OS X 10.4 Tiger for Power PC macs? Perhaps this modified operating system has a step-by-step tutorial (smile...smile).
When I heard that this is a modified version, I was quite cool with that!
Hey Michael, could you you maybe do a video where you go trough all of your pc’s?
I first played minecraft on a power mac G4, I feel like the standard edition should run. Granted it was beta 1.3 or whatever so much has changed. Might look into that
i an now intrested but how many fps did it have
@@lukeonuke not a ton but definitely playable. Maybe 30ish on low settings
@@mikeriv9229 Amazing, thats 20 more than id expect, but still old minecraft could probably run on a toaster
I love Mac OS X! ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
I've got an old G4 Pro and G5 Pro stuck in a closet. This looks pretty neato. Thanks!
I was today years old when I found out the following:
When using a PC keyboard on a Mac,
the WINDOWS button is Command, or as I call it, Clover (because the Command symbol on a Mac keyboard looks somewhat like a four-leaf clover,)
the ALT key is the same as Option,
and the Backspace key does the same as a Mac keyboard's 'delete' key.
Whats with the purple FreeBSD logo in a cup?
getting rid of the old Aqua theme was a sin.
No doubt about that. Always have to change things.
Babe wake up, Micheal MJD uploaded.
My G5 has expressed an interest in having this installed. My G3 also asked. My G4 has other ideas.
I do remember that RAM Disk was a thing back in Mac OS 9!
Finally new episode 😭
awesome vid as always :)
I'm always desperate to downgrade my MacOS because every update is, as well all know, a downgrade that prevents programs from running and makes things harder to use. I hope they start doing this with all the older versions of MacOS.
9:10 Actually, on my regular 10.5.8 Mac Mini, PPCStore also didn't want to download anything, so I don't think it has something to do with the Sorbet devs.
I like that sorbet like i like my MJD videos🍧
I installed Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on a MacBook Pro using a USB stick that I prepared on Win 10.
Safari can't open most pages. The AppStore doesn't connect. I tried to install Firefox v50.0 but it says I need 10.9 at least.
I prepared another USB stick with Yosemite and it doesn't detect the USB stick at boot time.
I turn on the PC and press the Alt button.
What am I doing wrong?
Makes me wish I had kept one of my old PPC machines. Hung onto some for a long time...but finally sold/gave them away. Time to troll CL.
If I had a MacBook I would install this! :)
It's for PowerPC so you would need a Powerbook or an iBook :)
gotta have a PPC Mac. MacBooks are Intel Get a G4
Love it!!!
Can it browse youtube and all that? Leopard doesnt support newer browsers
It uses leopard WebKit which uses a newer version of the safari engine. It will probably be too slow to watch RUclips at anything higher than 240p-360p unless you have a G5 with a good GPU.
Judging on derived FreeBSD foundation logo on thumbnail it is MacOS with re-injected FreeBSD components ?
Can you web surf without any major issues?
I got excited about this thinking I'd have a classic macOS *.iso for my 2010 MacBook, then I realized:
it's a 2010. it needs 10.7 and newer.
Hmm - I have a dual processor 1.25 GHz MDD G4 PowerMac with GB RAM plus a 12-in G4 PowerBook 1.5 GHz with 1.25 GB RAM. I reckon they'll be candidates for Sorbet Leopard.
They haven't contributed shit to FreeBSD in terms of code, but at least they somewhat acknowledge that FreeBSD is a part of their OS with the shape of that sorbet.
Why does it change to dock that’s one of the most visually appealing parts of snow leopard and I wasn’t even really old enough to have a computer yet when all this was around
i wonder, what is with the certifcats and ssl is that also upgraded, or is it still a problem browsing content or connecting to services wich use actual encryption ? does anyone may know that ?
I need to know this too.
10:32 what a rebel
Im waiting on dat tiger video im tryna c a good mac to buy for school n i want it to b able to run GarageBand and do all my schoolwork n shxt smooth
This is pretty cool. But I was hoping to see some web browsing. Has something been done to Safari in this version. Because without a functional browser that limits the OS sigificantly.
I feel a sudden urge to have Ice Cream now. My favourite flavour is Windows 11.
Ah, the WinChromebook edition.
4:58 is that limewire?!?
The 15” PowerBook G4 I just got in today had Limewire on it. I wiped the install because it had personal files on it.
Love your video)))
Masterpiece
VM Compatible?
Can I use Sorbet on my G5 1.8 power PC? Also, would I lose all my apps currently running on regular Leopard?
Awesome
I have a question, i know that this is for the power PC, is there any os like this for the intel?
0:03 FROM THE WINDOWS guy?
Like Macbook
Hi Michael.
A while back you installed leopard on an apple tv 1. I have one sitting waiting for a leopard install. But now I'm thinking sorbet would perhaps be a better option. If it at all works. Do you know if it would work or not?
It won’t work because the Apple TV uses intel and sorbet leopard only supports power pc
Hi!, good video, i need uninstall leopard rebirth, can you help me? I can't find the uninstaller.
Im installing this on my intel imac
You can’t it’s only for powerpc you can use it if you use an emulator on your Intel Mac to emulate powerpc
MJD please help me i have a windows insider update but i already run 22H2 what do i do please tell me
I have a early 2006 Imac but it is on snow leapard. Worth doing this or not? Or is there a snow leapard version?
This is for PPC machines only as they never got Snow Leopard.
I have my 2006 iMac running lion, I had to upgrade the CPU, flash it as a 5,1 iMac, and modify the lion install to get it to work though. Once running it’s really nice to use though
@@EvilTurkeySlices do you know a way to get better app support without upgrading it physically?
Can you actually use this os to work on 2023 like web browsing netflix etc, etc
TenFourFox (unsupported as of October 2021) could maybe get you onto some modern sites. You'd probably, at most, be able to read news, use email, and maybe shopping. Nothing graphics intensive though, certainly not RUclips or Netflix. The machine's CPU and GPU couldn't handle it.
Tried RUclips on my PMG5…it’s a no go. I’ll just stay on The Old Net and Frog Finder. Some of the internet Archive I did get to work. This is just on plain Leopard tho. If it can’t do those things (RUclips all of Internet Archive)on this sorbet distro I wonder if it’s even worth installing?…
I run this on my 15 Powerbook G4 , 1.67ghz , 2gb ddr2
This would’ve been so awesome to know this existed an experience it on my eMac G4 that I have before it died due to a capacitor failure.
On a sidenote, if anybody has a list of capacitors that I can order, I’d love to have the list and order them before I take it apart. I’d hate to take it apart, find and order all the capacitors, then lose pieces or forget how to put it back together while they ship. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
I wonder 🤔 how this will run on an Apple TV 1st Generation
It won't. 1.gen Apple TV has got an Intel inside and only 256 MB of soldered RAM.
@@jensputzlocher8345 that's true, however, dosdude1 was able to do a hardware mod by adding 1GB Ram
@@bajanking1 And yet the 1.gen Apple TV has an Intel inside - but not a PowerPC processor. Sorbet Leopard is written for PPC, not for Intel
@@jensputzlocher8345 good point
Can you remove the old OS once installed?
Lucky to be early!
Ok, leopard, snow leopard, sorbet leopard, what's missing? Spagetti leopard?
It'd be really cool if someone made some sort of modded Ventura version that runs on PowerPC processors
should be a theme
