"Devs want to make a great game first before it can be an eSport" is the best thing I could have heard.
Yes! Louder for the people in the back.
That is very rare to hear for a company like Riot but makes me so excited.
@@VideoGamePunda the twins have made a fighting game back then for free and it was a blast and great so they'll do the same for this game but with a bigger team.
@@VideoGamePunda wdym like Riot? Valorant and League are some of the biggest eSport games there is
Tell me you don’t know how Riot operates without telling me you don’t know how Riot operates
We all know that Max has already played Marvel 4 and Killer Instinct 2
Marvel Infinite WAS Marvel 4, though.
I wonder when he'll tell us about the new blazblue
@@YasvieleMax doesn't recognize the existence of anime games
He's also played Capcom vs SNK 3, Tekken x Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat 2 (2027)
Max bet, i think 2000-4000 gift subs if Marvel 4 came out because he was confident there was no Marvel 4. Might be safe to say he prob doesn't know. But if he does, you better be on his stream post-EVO lol
Finally, a fighting game where I CAN blame my teammate for my loss.
It's LoL all over again
OMG UR COMBO IS SHITT
@oversalt4142 I mean no cause 1. You don't have to be in a team 2. if you do have a teammate it's almost certainly your friend and playing for fun.
@@Lilo_D._Boomthere's gotta be doubles tournaments when it drops right? Not invalidating what you're saying but still lets OP complain!
2 pigs in my team
It’s kinda uncanny seeing this game come together. Used to feel like a pipe dream.
in a year im willing to bet itll be in open beta with a small roster of characters to choose from
In a few years, the time of development will be just a footnote.
Still does feel like a pipe dream. Pie in the sky.😊
I feel like they've hyped this game up SO MUCH they now feel insecure about the inability to deliver a game that lives up to that level of hype, so they will be trapped in a development hell of their own design, forever! 😢
Curse of the perfectionist.
@@michaelmccoy1794 and unlike their other games, you cant make fighters beginner friendly. tft and valorant have a lotta people playing that dont care about auto chess or fps games simply because its riot IP, but if you cant make the game easy enough to coast without learning, you end up with legends of runeterra, at least the expectations of card game players were low and not over hyped for 4 years
Just knowing the LoL roster there is so much potential for additions to this game. And being able to see the characters get expressive is so good.
Teemo😊
Fiddlesticks 🙏
Give me my big metal boi mordekaiser 🙏
I would love to see Fiddlesticks, Cho'Gat, and other non-human figured characters show up.
I hope Riven gets added to the roster, since her original moveset was inspired by Marth and Roy in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
The art and animation team for this game are killing it so far. The game looks amazing in motion.
Ehhh it seems like moves or movement need more frames
@@Playerz714 they intentionally made it like that tho

Damn. The breakdown was so incredibly detailed yet succinct and well spoken. Thanks Max.
I loved Street Fighter x Tekken for the 2v2 duos. It was awesome to go online with a buddy co-op in a fighting game. I wish more fighting games would use this feature.
awesome idea
I mean, Brawlhalla has a very serious 2v2 competitive scene that is just as big, if not bigger, than singles. Though I understand you more meant traditional fighters, not platform fighters.
Didn't MvCI use the same style?
Dead or Alive 2-5 also have a very fun 2 v 2 Duos tag mode.
@@SmashFinale There's no 4 player in mvci
The way Darius looks in this is just so great. He easily looks like one of the first characters I wanna try out until we know more of the characters. The other two look fantastic too.
I love how deep the combat looks. But my initial thought watching this was "wow Darius just looks so good!" The art for him is crazy and his moves match his style so well!
My only complaint about Darius is that in his intro his face looks kinda scrungly. He needs that iconic scowl from his splashart.
@@Natoursofcourse yea I actually made that comment before seeing his intro but I def agree lol
@@Natoursofcourse His scrowl from the splash art is not really lore accurate. Darius isn't some mindless brute who charges at his enemies mindlessly but an intelligent and calculated general.
@@itsgonnabeokay9341 So your saying an intelligent and calculating person never scowls? Interesting lore take. Source?
@@itsgonnabeokay9341 True, I just don't think the face fits the pose generally
Gracias MAX por tus videos, siempre me alegran los días.
I'm kinda shocked. I thought we were a LOOOOOONG ways off from this. But it sounds like, by inviting people out and having it at EVO, it's actually a lot closer than I ever thought.
So in fairness, it looks like they only got to play the characters that are mostly already done that we've known about for awhile. Ekko, Jynx, Darius, Ahri. I don't even think we got Illoai yet. It looks like they're taking a very vertical approach with the game, getting a small handful of characters to a basically finished state fairly quickly so that they can do stuff like this earlier than an in development game normally would be able to.
Good marketing and great for us, but I wouldn't jump to any conclusions on how soon the game is coming out.
I mean, this still looks like a pretty early preview. Yeah, it might not be super far off but may still be like a year away? We don't know much of anything about the roster and that's something you'd think we'd start hearing more about if it was really close.
Looong time ago ordinary people like me used to code their own fighting games using M.U.G.E.N engine.. I imagine it must be SO MUCH easier with the current technology.. Oh man its gonna be even easier with the assist of AI.. Its beautiful
With this going to be F2P, it makes sense to have an MVP (minimum viable product) like this. They can launch with like 8-12 characters and probably be okay with it since we expect the game to be supported for years to come (as is with other main Riot games) with more characters, more stages, costumes, and modes. This is in contrast with other AAA fighting games where you have to make it worth the $60-70 price point upon entry in terms of content and characters. Project L's model doesn't need that. It could maybe have a non-competitive PvE/story/arcade mode in the future for more casual players but not get pressured to release said mode at launch.
There's only 3 characters...
Dang the cutscene character animations, especially on Ahri and Ekko, are looking GREAT
Ahri looks so good can’t wait to see skins. And ekkos gameplay is gonna be insane
Fr 🔥
@@edbaitedyou6955 Really hope we get some skins from the base game, True Damage Ekko would look so good in this game
i think they all look kind of cheap...but i guess different tastes etc.
@@eVuLeXyeah you got bad taste homie
One thing about Riot Games, their animation/art crew is always top-notch. I'm really happy to see Ahri's League moves have adapted well to a 2D fighter... Really looking forward to grouping up with a buddy and tackling online as a duo.
Samee
The Ahri otg to combo is sick
This is the first time I've been able to actually understand the mechanics of a fighting game. You're really good at explaining things Max. I was already excited for Project L, since I love League and Fighting games, but I'm even more so now.
I hope Riven gets added to the roster, since her original moveset was inspired by Marth and Roy in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
kid named get grabbed from a mile away:
I agree! I love Riven, Vi, Fiora and Camile. I hope at least 2 of them make it to the launch roster.
adrian riven can FINALLY play riven on a tournament
Sett, Riven and Vi have to be base roster right? I mean Sett's whole character is that he's a pit fighter
@@MixTwentyOnenot necessarily, Darius Sett Riven is a lot of Noxus reps. Samira is another Noxus rep which would honestly make a more interesting kit, and she’s the main character of soul fighters. Eventually I’d expect all of them tho
4 players sounds like a fun time; for sure.
Excited to see where this game goes.
Was thinking it was more or less the same from what we knew outside of the new parry but you blew my mind with a groove system ontop of all of this is insane.
The idea of double handshake pressure against using burst, push block, reverse push block with essentially KoF jumping, dashing and running movement has me giddy.
And all that with tag team for free. The game's gonna burst
Its going to be fun to watch max dive into the league of legends universe in his own way: through project L
League players jumping into this are going to freak out since they can’t blame their losses on someone else this time around.
Update: Looks like there is a 2v2 option.
*Curb your Enthusiasm theme plays*
Bruh have you seen the amount of salt in fighting games?
there’s a system where you can queue up with another person to play as ur 2nd char so you could technically blame ur duo
That's where you are wrong, kiddo
Of course we can, the oponent
FGC also blames their losses on bad balance and lag, so it’s no different. They always have an excuse.
I don't play League but I have always admired the art direction. This game looks amazing. Hopefully it plays just as good as it looks.
I (unfortunately) have sunk an embarrassing amount of time in LoL and I am beyond hyped for Project L. It’s combined my two favorite mediums together!
I hope project L is good but you're doing great on keeping yourself away from league lol
Same
Fighting games never fuck up that bad maybe bad online or story mode but what we see now is how it’s gonna be
Same this and Arcane gave me interested in the world of league but I’ll still prolly never touch the main game. Heard too many horror stories 😂
Game looks super fun! Can't wait to see you cover it more in the future!
This is so sick. I love League and playing fighting games. I was hoping to see more than Darius and Ekko but just seeing and hearing about the mechanics is fucking HYPE. Specially the 2 player vs 1 or 2 player is an insanely awesome idea!
Separate meters is gonna be interesting. It at least varies combo routes depending on who has more meter
This look very good looking, I can't wait to see the final product of project L.
Thanks for the update! While a simplified moveset is disappointing for me, I get it. Also having never played League and remembering your video checking out all the heroes currently available, there's massive potential for this roster. Glad to hear it feels good. Definitely gonna check this out!
As always, love the content! Thanks for the coverage. Super excited to hear your thoughts on the game as it changes more!
I’m so hyped for the characters they’ll put in the game.
as a somewhat former/casual league player and a current fgc fan, i am quite hyped for this and just the potential of the roster and all the mechanics
1:20 into the video and I am already so so excited. I've already commented on a lot of your casual fighting game oriented videos about how I wish tag games let you tag with another player not just character like in MK9. It's super fun to be able to play with someone who isn't the best at Fighters so they don't get discouraged from getting their ass beat all the time.
I am loving how this game looks so far. The tag-team approach I think does so much more for League than a 1v1 like SF or MK, and the obvious comparison to ArcSys and DBFZ helps because of the stuff that they can pull of because of that less grounded and more nutty/flashy approach to combos and specials. Absolutely cannot wait for any and all news on this.
I wonder of the surprise dev at EVO for the Friday showcase is still Riot or not since they revealed all this stuff today.
Last night's stream I thought Max hinted Project L would be present at EVO, which did get confirmed. Though who could the surprise dev be?
I love the personality they are pouring into the characters.
Thank you for sharing this max !
God I cannot wait, as soon as I saw they dropped a video, I was eagerly awaiting a video from you about the news
I love the character models of ari and ekko!!! Freaking nailed it!! Looking forward to seeing other LoL characters and release roster of this game ❤
Max loves to pronounce Darius weirdly. It's his favorite thing.
Great content man, i'm on the hype train for this one!
Sickkkkk thank God they let max play this breakdown is awesome man!
This game looks absolutely stunning~! Character animations and designs really pop and the background looks sumptuous!
Im loving this art style. I hope we get a proper name at evo
Thanks for the preview dude, the game looks beautiful and there seems to be a lot of potential for a great game when it eventually comes out.
Holy shit Max ty for the rundown can't wait to try it
I don't think it can be said enough: this game is *BEAUTIFUL*. The art style and the caliber of the graphics and animations are beyond compare.
I’m thrilled it has a Burst mechanic! And the refined visual design is so ON POINT! Very excited now!
Stellar video! I'm super excited and agree that adding more low risk low reward options so that it feels less like "roll or be rolled" would be healthier for the game. What I'd love to also see for this (likely to be) masterpiece would be a tutorial like what Skullgirls did.
Very excited to see where this game goes. I'm relatively new to fighting games and your channel has been my home base for learning and enjoying them. I play league, I play valorant, I enjoy the league IP so this is gonna be very hype.
I will say, as someone newer to fighting games, the visual clarity worries me a little bit. I've only really played GGST and SF6 so far and both of those games feel simple enough that I can always tell what's happening even if a character does a lot of weird stuff. with this one, it's looking a bit hard to read. there's like one two many things happening at the same time, one too many things on screen at once.
Here's hoping they iron everything out well though. I have a lot of faith in Riot Devs, even have a couple friends that work there as programmers
Literally was looking up Project L an hour ago to see if there were any updates recently this is wild
I know not a lot of many people liked or played blazblue cross tag battle but a lot of these tag mechanics Max describes are pretty similar. Like swapping to your assist while theyre out and especially the sandwiching of your point character and assist. That game was pretty whatever but I thought the tag mechanics were super solid so its great to see it referenced and expanded upon in other games.
It totally gives off BBTAG vibes. Always felt that game got crapped on too much!
This is exactly what i was thinking when was talking about the tag mechanics
I mean that one specific fuse let you do BBTAG sandwich combo.... Goodluck on the execution
I like BBTAG. And it was good for what it is, but fuck me, some of the characters I dislike.
*I’m looking at you, Izayoi.*
I only ever disliked how it feels like they forced the autocombo mechanic, if we had gotten a BBTAG that played like Central Fiction, It would be my favorite game ever, but they simplified characters too much to make the "fit in" on a uniform roster. I especially hate what they did to Nine, fucking insane gimmick character with all the gimmicks removed.
Yoooooo! The duos thing I dig. It's also one of the things I miss about Tekken Tag Tournament and Dead or Alive.
I’m glad there’s a lot of time being put into it but man I gotta prep so my future grandkids will be ready when it finally releases
This game is already looking great. Hopefully they work on making wake-ups pretty okay, but otherwise it sounds like you had a great time with it Max!
DUDE! The art style of this game is crazy! It looks so good.
As someone who's only REALLY got into more traditional fighting games within the past year or two, this looks absolutely insane and i cannot wait until we learn more and get to try it out for ourselves.
This game looks like a dream come true. Complex and fun asf, dawg i think i fell in love.
This looks goddamn Gorgeous! Holy Crap!
Cannot wait to see more!
Fr combos are decently big to which I’m excited for
lmao it looks like trash

@@tigrisrgn4062Of course, there's this obligatory hater.
I like the neutral mechanics all characters have access to, makes the competitive edge more interesting imo
This is probably going to bring me back to fighting games ngl. I like the aspect of duos
I'm so curious who the next characters for the base roster are going to be. CAN'T WAIT TO FIND OUT!!!
Being a LoL player and a fighting games fan is keeping me so HYPE
I'm so ready to see Max play with Gorlok already.
We need to spread the Gorlak meme so Riot can make it into a reality
Thanks Max! This looks so dope!
Wow the art style is actually so much more comic-y.
Real nice.
Max: there is no beta or something like that
Riot 10 min later: the beta is coming soon
??? No there is no Beta lol
I know max hasnt played alot of it, but the tag mechanics sound more akin to Bbtag, where you have the three different assist 4,5,6 assist (4 being anitair, 5 combo filler, 6 being projectile) the ability to switch when the tag character is on screen, and cross tagging where you control both characters on screen and can swap back and forth between them. Push blocking costing a bar is also used in bbtag as well as the ability to use your assist as the combo breaker. Id say the three games to get used to this style imo: Bbtag, MVCI, and a toss between GBFV, or DNF just for using specials.
KI did that with specials first. Infinite also did Combo breaker assists before bbtag.
@@Sparda51 I didn’t say who did it fist, I was pointing out other games that used the majority the mechanics in one game rather than swapping between multiple. I also put MVCI as a game to play.
@Sparda51 infinites combo breaker assists were different in that they were literally a full tag in, the person getting combod doesn't get tagged out cause you have to actually save them. Bbtags combo breaker was more like a burst like in this game.
Yeah, it was funny hearing Max go thru all the different other games to compare it to, and I'm here saying to myself; "So like BBTAG...?!" 😄
@@AceLeader101 sure but I personally didn’t like how bbtag played and hope it plays more like mvci and battle for the grid because those games were fun.
The fuse that puts both partners on the screen at the same time is gonna be nuts when 2 people are controlling each character. Literally building the famous wombo combo hype.
Fighting games are perfecting the cell shading look, this is looks awesome
God I want to see Jax in this game so much.
He could be so cool in it.

THAT INTRO ROCKS!!!! Love the art!
If Azir isn't in this game I'ma be mad, could you imagine the puppet fighter POTENTIAL!?
I like how the game is designed partially for newcomers but I feel this game would make people SO angry with the mechanics shown so far, new players are not going to have fun being mixed to shit for 5 mins straight
Skullgirls in a nutshell
True! Im a casual league of legends and Fighting games player. Im not good in neither. But this looks way more complex than a SF game. I kinda like anime fighters, I had tons of fun playing abyss mode in Blazblue and M.O.M mode in GG rev2. I hope noobs like me can still have fun! Especially that it can be 2v2 now.
Lmao yeah. This isn't going to be a big name game, guaranteed. Tag fighter with long ass combos and not stop shmix means a niche game
They won't. There's gonna be so many new players there will be whole swaths of iron and bronzies poking each other to death with the occasional raw super thrown in

I'm super stoked for this game. Wish I had the opportunity to be apart of these Invitationals.
This looks so sick, even if I didn’t understand a single thing you were explaining
I really hope they don't tone it down. The more intricate and in depth these systems are the more people will stick with them and also the more entertaining they'll be to watch as a spectator
they most definitely will tone them down. I am guessing by a lot too. The premise and marketing of the Project L was a low skill floor for non fighting game fans. Initially, at the very least. If they stick to that, then they will tone it down. Right now, speaking as someone very new to fgc, this is all too much.
All the characters i want in this game are Sett, Aatrox (especially aatrox but any darkin is fine), and the character i want the most is sylas. just imagine sylas combos with his chains and magic. He also has a lot of potential. They could make him into anything from a rushdown char to a shoto. All i want though are cool combos with his e. Pulling yourself towards someone to punch them in the face and continue your combo is such an awesome thing
True! LoL has so many great champions that could be turned into sick fighting games characters.
Idk, his iconic move is Hijack. Idk how you can make that work without completely breaking it in this type of game.

It’s almost like they’re foreshadowing their game
I’m really interested to see major league tournament play of this game. This could be huge and probably one of the most entertaining fighting games to watch of all time.
