I'm kinda shocked. I thought we were a LOOOOOONG ways off from this. But it sounds like, by inviting people out and having it at EVO, it's actually a lot closer than I ever thought.
So in fairness, it looks like they only got to play the characters that are mostly already done that we've known about for awhile. Ekko, Jynx, Darius, Ahri. I don't even think we got Illoai yet. It looks like they're taking a very vertical approach with the game, getting a small handful of characters to a basically finished state fairly quickly so that they can do stuff like this earlier than an in development game normally would be able to. Good marketing and great for us, but I wouldn't jump to any conclusions on how soon the game is coming out.

With this going to be F2P, it makes sense to have an MVP (minimum viable product) like this. They can launch with like 8-12 characters and probably be okay with it since we expect the game to be supported for years to come (as is with other main Riot games) with more characters, more stages, costumes, and modes. This is in contrast with other AAA fighting games where you have to make it worth the $60-70 price point upon entry in terms of content and characters. Project L's model doesn't need that. It could maybe have a non-competitive PvE/story/arcade mode in the future for more casual players but not get pressured to release said mode at launch.

This is the first time I've been able to actually understand the mechanics of a fighting game. You're really good at explaining things Max. I was already excited for Project L, since I love League and Fighting games, but I'm even more so now.
1:20 into the video and I am already so so excited. It's super fun to be able to play with someone who isn't the best at Fighters so they don't get discouraged from getting their ass beat all the time.
I am loving how this game looks so far. The tag-team approach I think does so much more for League than a 1v1 like SF or MK, and the obvious comparison to ArcSys and DBFZ helps because of the stuff that they can pull of because of that less grounded and more nutty/flashy approach to combos and specials. Absolutely cannot wait for any and all news on this.
All the characters i want in this game are Sett, Aatrox (especially aatrox but any darkin is fine), and the character i want the most is sylas. just imagine sylas combos with his chains and magic. He also has a lot of potential. They could make him into anything from a rushdown char to a shoto. All i want though are cool combos with his e. Pulling yourself towards someone to punch them in the face and continue your combo is such an awesome thing
I really hope they don't tone it down. The more intricate and in depth these systems are the more people will stick with them and also the more entertaining they'll be to watch as a spectator
they most definitely will tone them down. I am guessing by a lot too. The premise and marketing of the Project L was a low skill floor for non fighting game fans. Initially, at the very least. If they stick to that, then they will tone it down. Right now, speaking as someone very new to fgc, this is all too much.
The fuse that puts both partners on the screen at the same time is gonna be nuts when 2 people are controlling each character. Literally building the famous wombo combo hype.
@@yoaiouI know your arent talking about cheeto finger dudes when fighting game players are literally more disgusting, trust me I’ve been to tournaments to watch. So many faces of League are literal gym rats like Tyler1 or Dantes, cope harder though
Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1, Tekken 8 (most likely), GG Strive, and now Project L Man, fighting games and the players are in such a fantastic era rn that it's going to take so much effort to reach this high again years from now
Max out here talking about how Project L shares all of these game mechanics with different games and i'm just like "Yep, sounds exactly like Blazblue"(with the exclusion of the parry mechanic of course)
One thing mechanically that was intriguing to me in the video is how it appears that hitting the opponent out of the air puts them into a juggle state as opposed to the SF reaction to getting hit with an anti-air that almost always leads to a reset/neutral state.
One of the most striking similarities between Project L and Blazblue Cross Tag is the way they both use tag-teams. In both games, players can switch between their two characters at any time, which opens up a whole new range of strategic possibilities. For example, players can use one character to apply pressure while the other character recovers, or they can use one character's special moves to set up combos for the other character. Im actually so hyped i wanted a game like this again
This is so sick. I love League and playing fighting games. I was hoping to see more than Darius and Ekko but just seeing and hearing about the mechanics is fucking HYPE. Specially the 2 player vs 1 or 2 player is an insanely awesome idea!
My jaw literally hit the floor when we transitioned from old footage to new. The game looks SO much better even though I already thought it looked great. Echo looks fun as hell and the groove sounds so awesome. Truly a fighting game for fighting game fans with loads of player expression through the base mechanics alone.
I love fighting games and some of my friends are really into league and they were interested in the thought of Project L because at first it was sound like it would be a title non-fighting game people could hopefully easily jump into but now looking at it it's got very MVCI levels of craziness in the screen so I don't think they're going to hop on
the devs of Project L already stated that they are making a game easy to learn hard to master so anyone will be able to hop in and play it, mastering the mechanics will be the complicated part
@@symphonixblades That's the thing though, based off what what we're seeing it's already not an easy game to learn. Just because there's not fireball and DP inputs doesn't mean this game is simple. Smash bros is easy to learn, Granblue is super easy to learn. This game is already starting out with more mechanics and complexity than power rangers and Dragonball fighters which all 4 of those I'd say are some of the most easily approachable games to jump into

This game actually looks incredible. I LOVE the ability to play with an individual player on each character, I think it'll make jumping online with a friend to work together really fun. Very glad to hear that the gameplay is for the most part rock solid, and I love the variety of mechanics. Much as I hope it's balanced for everyone, I love the idea of getting a totally ballistic crazy game with tons of options and wild approaches to matches, it makes watching the game so much more fun, as a lot of fighting games recently have been intentionally slowed down a bit and balanced out more for competitive play. This seems like it might be able to achieve that balance while also having some of the crazy bullshit that you get in MvC and Killer Instinct. Plus, the roster is super exciting. This game has the potential to get dozens of new characters, and love or hate LoL, there's no denying the absurd amount of great characters they could put into the game from it. I don't know anything about fighting games, but once this guy referenced a POWER RANGER GAME, I knew, I'm listening to a expert speak LOL
Literally was looking up Project L an hour ago to see if there were any updates recently this is wild
True! LoL has so many great champions that could be turned into sick fighting games characters.
Idk, his iconic move is Hijack. Idk how you can make that work without completely breaking it in this type of game.
@@2xYuWi mean you can do hijack as lvl 1 install super ... That copies your opponent's lvl 2 super.....
I’m thrilled it has a Burst mechanic! And the refined visual design is so ON POINT! Very excited now!
Most anticipated FG of all time? Bold statement
We’re truly in the golden age of fighting games.
Because of League? Lol Project L ain't gonna do nothing. Keep that franchise for the cheeto finger dudes
@@yoaiou will prob be the biggest fighting game but ok
@@yoaiou🤡
@@yoaiouI know your arent talking about cheeto finger dudes when fighting game players are literally more disgusting, trust me I’ve been to tournaments to watch. So many faces of League are literal gym rats like Tyler1 or Dantes, cope harder though
I hope for a brand new Darkstalkers game, as well as Bloody Roar return.
Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1, Tekken 8 (most likely), GG Strive, and now Project L
Man, fighting games and the players are in such a fantastic era rn that it's going to take so much effort to reach this high again years from now
I love how Ahri's animation at 14:23 looks like her attack on A New Dawn cinematic
Max out here talking about how Project L shares all of these game mechanics with different games and i'm just like "Yep, sounds exactly like Blazblue"(with the exclusion of the parry mechanic of course)
If Azir isn't in this game I'ma be mad, could you imagine the puppet fighter POTENTIAL!?
It looks a lot better than what we saw earlier but I feel like some of the effects are still messy. I hope they look cleaner on beta
Yes I think it’s the art style of the effects they don’t match with the character and environment artstyle.
The game is like 3% done

I'm so ready to see Max play with Gorlok already.
We need to spread the Gorlak meme so Riot can make it into a reality
This game looks absolutely stunning~! Character animations and designs really pop and the background looks sumptuous!
God Project L looks hella fun. Can't wait for this.

Fighting games are perfecting the cell shading look, this is looks awesome
Wow the art style is actually so much more comic-y.
Real nice.
Being a LoL player and a fighting games fan is keeping me so HYPE
DUDE! The art style of this game is crazy! It looks so good.
I love the personality they are pouring into the characters.
It’s almost like they’re foreshadowing their game
One thing mechanically that was intriguing to me in the video is how it appears that hitting the opponent out of the air puts them into a juggle state as opposed to the SF reaction to getting hit with an anti-air that almost always leads to a reset/neutral state.
I want to play this so bad
Same brooo looks so sick!!
Play it then 😂
@@lifedeather it’s not out yet
Im loving this art style. I hope we get a proper name at evo
Is this a chatgpt comment lol
This is so sick. I love League and playing fighting games. I was hoping to see more than Darius and Ekko but just seeing and hearing about the mechanics is fucking HYPE. Specially the 2 player vs 1 or 2 player is an insanely awesome idea!
League of Legends in a nutshell, you are either rolling over the enemy or the enemy rolls over you
This game is already looking great. Hopefully they work on making wake-ups pretty okay, but otherwise it sounds like you had a great time with it Max!
My jaw literally hit the floor when we transitioned from old footage to new. The game looks SO much better even though I already thought it looked great. Echo looks fun as hell and the groove sounds so awesome. Truly a fighting game for fighting game fans with loads of player expression through the base mechanics alone.
Game is looking good. Can't wait to finally play it.
I'll surelly be a Jinx and Ekko main.
I would hate playing against Jinx now that I've seen what she's been through.
He used to have a crush on her until she started talking to her gun
I'm just waiting for Jhin. Imagine they give him and only him a 4 meter super
The tag mechanic will only be true to League of Legends if sometimes it doesn't come out, and my teammate calls me slurs.
2v1 feature unlocks the ability to actual play a fighting game with the dreaded three-count of friends online or together
This game is already starting out with more mechanics and complexity than power rangers and Dragonball fighters which all 4 of those I'd say are some of the most easily approachable games to jump into
@@symphonixblades Everybody says that.
they added 4 player mode so league players can still blame the team even in a fighting game
As someone who used to regularly play League and has been getting more into fighting games lately, I can see so much potential for Project L's roster. The game looks really promising so far and I can't wait to play it someday!
Crazy that i went from Moba to fighting games. After a decade of playing just mobas, i cant handle being with teammates anymore. It feels hopeless no matter how high rank you become.
At least in fighter, you have only yourself to blame
13:48 Darius is the most rock solid, until malphite join the gang
Migraine sufferer here: really love that there aren't many blinding white screen flashes. It's really easy on my eyes and brain to watch. I hope it doesn't get blown up with flashes and filters in the future.
Honestly, looking amazing.
This game could go wrong in so many ways.

The fact that its taken this long for a proper 2v2 fighting game again is insane but Im so excited and this is the smartest way to get other people into the game (second best is sf6 doing an amazing job teaching everyone the game I saw many fps streamers pick up on that game and enjoy it a lot)

I’m really interested to see major league tournament play of this game. This could be huge and probably one of the most entertaining fighting games to watch of all time.
Please have couch co-op online play. I would love to do co-op games with my wife or friends.
I think the spirit of the 2v2 play is to itch that backseat gaming mentality. A lot of people just want to take over when the 1v1 is getting tight. So the tag is there for that reason
"Youre either rolling over your opponent or theyre rolling over you."
League Players: Oh, so like a normal game of league then?
A FREE 2D FIGHTER GAME WITH A CEL-SHADED ARTSTYLE? OH HELL YEAH!!

Finally another fighting game that have 2v2 mode. Looks promising, i can see they make it some tournament mode like what SF x tekken did.
Look pretty fun tbh, its been long time since SF x tekken and we need more fighting game actually do team battle. Multiversus also tried it but game died sadly.
Glad they removed "motion specials" so that I can wrap my head around everything else that's going on.
