- Hey folks, we're just trawling through some old videos looking for ways to free up hard drive space and we came across this Loop Pedal cover of Red Alert by Basement Jaxx.
It's probably the most advanced and intricate loop cover we've ever done, but for whatever reason, nobody seemed interested when we first uploaded it. We weren't really trying too hard with the whole RUclips thing at the time, and our uploads were pretty sporadic, so that might account for it... although we shot Hooked On A Feeling on the same day and that's approaching 100,000 views, so maybe this just isn't a very well known song.
We think it's awesome, though, and despite our self-imposed rule of not wasting too much time tweaking stuff we've already 'finished', we really weren't too happy with the way it looked. We were pretty much just starting to figure out how to use Premiere and do responsible colour correcting, so the end result was pretty dreadful 🤣
Anyway we've gone in and tweaked the colour and exposure a little bit, so here it is again, and apologies to anyone who's already seen it - normal service will be resumed ASAFP.

Perhaps I shouldn't be admitting this but my iTunes playlist of 'stuff that The Distance haven't released on BandCamp yet' includes "Red Alert" dated 2020, so I must have been impressed enough to have ripped it from RUclips even though I didn't remember the video at all. I will put an extra couple of quid on my next BandCamp purchase as penance.
Having compared them, the new video is much better. Removing the high-contrast Japanese-horror-movie bits was a good call. 😉
As for the view count difference with "Hooked On A Feeling", Blue Swede's version of that song is prominent on the Guardians Of The Galaxy soundtrack so my guess is that RUclips was likely (maybe still?) recommending covers of it alongside genre videos. Two of the comments actually reference GOTG. But who really knows the mysteries of The Algorithm?

We think you're right about Hooked, and now you mention it I can't actually remember whether we covereed it before or after it appeared in GOTG... but either way it certainly helped that it featured so prominently.

Didn't see this before, so first impression here - Never been much of a fan of this style of music, but like you, I think I can appreciate something that's so well put together and the time/effort/skill with instruments and looping coordination. I have to say it is a stellar arrangement, pulled off without a hitch, IMO. Not sure why the hits didn't happen, but you've both been at this long enough to know what goes into something like this and it must have improved your overall ability to produce quality videos going forward, right? < If it's not clear enough, then let me plainly say, very well done!
