- Most karate-ka prefer to block with their front hand, using their rear hand as their striking hand. Yet in self defence, its pivotal a student can defend with both hands. This drill focuses on the back hand developing its blocking prowess.
I’m a karate guy but sent this to a boxer friend who can apply it. Really good video
Excellent, I see that he is a person who knows what he is talking about and also masters what he practices; Congratulations!! Thank you for having such good tutorials and demos that you do, thanks 100%

Although I really like this, I suspect a faint would leave you wide open to a lead straight, hook, or uppercut.
Every technique can be overcome with superior strategy and execution. That said, good defenders block with minimal movement and dont respond to fakes. But its definitely a good strategy for any blocker
@@GKRKarate Good points. I know the purpose of these videos are karate specific, but do you think you could explain how to block a boxers hook in a video for self defense purposes? I really like karate, but this is the one concern I've had viewing the style.

I need one of those little turd knots on top of my head.
You call to this shotokan ...? What isthats blocks lol and the scream . You really bealive ths is shotokn karate?why they jump and doing like kickbxing moveents? In the katas don exist that.. even in bunkays lol
No we do not call this shotokan. This is NOT shotokan. That said, we know a few shotokan clubs and most have classes 'outside' of the standard kihon and kata (like fitness classes, self-defence classes etc). This is a 'tournament' class, so the scream is necessary for scoring a point. Finally, karate is not bound to the moves found in kata.
