There's another game that's been left to die, from very early in my computing history. Armor Alley. That game was ported to everything and a toaster-a hallmark demonstration of targeting the widest possible userbase-I even wrote a PalmOS version (using extracted PICT resources from the MacOS port ;) and offered it to them, they didn't want it. (And obv. I couldn't publish it myself having re-used assets.) Was pretty proud of that "game engine", back then. A sad fate for many of these older titles.
$30 is well worth it, given that there are patches in the forums to completely re-create the original EV and EV:O inside EV Nova. Thats only ten bucks per game, and they're still fantastic! Plus, having them run though EVN, it lets the windows players get in on it.
Maybe not for one, but given that there are free mods that fully recreate the two earlier titles... that softens the blow. Also, runs fine on everything I've installed it on!
I loved these games back in the day, especially EV Override. So much fun and easy to mod. I used to spend a lot of time on the Ambrosia forums but the company is a zombie at this point. I contacted them recently to get my old registration codes and played a bit of Nova but the gameplay is so dated at this point that it was honestly a chore to enjoy it once the nostalgia wore off :( That said, these are not exactly famous games with a valuable IP. Half of ASWs classic game lineup are rippoffs of more well known games anyway. EV is a 2D ripoff of Elite! There are better games out there, honestly and if someone really want to, they could clone the game engine and give it a different name, as many did back in the early 2000s.
It was the best game on my Mac back in the day.
There is now a Kickstarter to remake the sequel, Override. It goes by the name Cosmic Frontier: Override.
Nova isn't an "update"... it's a 3rd game in the franchise. You can play they other 2 games through it, but it's definitely not an update.
@Robert Thomas Thanks for spreading the word, but I was 1 of the first to pledge O:) I'm Zachita in the discord

Robert Thomas Alas, they missed the boat, for me. I already have Endless Sky (almost direct spiritual successor) and RimWorld, and Crying Suns, and…
I didn't know AmbrosiaSW was dead. Sad to hear.

It was $30 when I bought it back in 2002. $30 for a a very dated 15 year old that barely runs on modern systems doesn't seem extortionate to you?

sure wish they were easier to pirate
The codes are here: phussa.net/ss/var/E.htm
If this game could only be owned by a company that gave a single shit about the property.
I agree at least released it too steam or on download. I miss this game alot and i woulnt mind paying 30 dollars to play it for windows 10.

Escape velocity isn't a rip off of elite, although it is similar. The programmer of ev has never played elite.
I really want to see someone pick up Starcon. EV was great, but Starcon2 was still my favorite by miles.
$30? Really? If you don't want to spend it, then don't. I regret not a single hour nor a single dollar that I've spent on this game.
