Hating on Knoll is reaching the point that Kratos may just start reanimating him to get him killed again... but then Kratos will be a necromancer himself, becoming the Knoll he swore to vanquish.
@@AndouHarvey I mostly take it as a joke as I don't have strong opinions having not ever focused on using Knoll, but Knoll is a severely stat/weapon screwed unit. So he's one of those units that you might expect to be at least okay in his joining chapter, but then you see his stats and you learn how this particular entry in the series treats his class/weapon type, and you just go, "Oh... this is a bad unit... you're going to be a challenge to keep alive, aren't you?" And on a solo run, that's absolutely the challenge you receive.
@@AndouHarveymy understanding (it’s been forever since I played FE8) is that knoll has bad starting stats for his level and really bad luck so it’s really easy for him to die on most maps. (Especially if you are not careful.) so most people just toss him aside and use the other units that are solid.
Before watching the video, I want to make my own prediction - though usually Kyle is certified better than forde in normal runs, in a solo run forde having better speed will matter a whole lot more come endgame, especially with formotiis So, having watched the whole thing.... those boots did Kyle dirty.
Still, Kyle being a GK is thematic, he is the strength Cav of fe8. And the Paladin is a more romantic figure to my mind, which suits Forde's artistic disposition tbh
Love the image of Duessel desperately warding off a horde of enemies wondering why no one is coming to help while Kyke is rifling through the sand to find a pair of boots (btw is his horse gonna wear them ?) :D Anyway, it was pretty fun seeing two similar units side by side !
I feel like Great Knight is just better suited for solo runs because of higher damage output (Garm + higher strength cap) the Dracozombie can roll low enough bulk to get 2 shot by capped strength Garm
You know, one day, we should see if Knoll, the MVP of dying in the desert, can solo the game. I bet his summoning could be really useful, it's mostly a question on if he's durable enough. Plus his S rank tome is not super effective against monsters or the demon king. Edit: Unless he's not allowed to summon because the phantoms fight. But since it comes from him it might not be bad? But if so, idk how he'd do. Never made him a druid, or which would be better for surviving. If no Knoll, give us a Moulder run, you coward
One somewhat unfortunate thing about these runs has to be the combination of the same stat boosters and stat caps causing most units in the same class to hit the same caps and end up very similar at the endgame. Kyle did have the big advantage of not dying to two hits from Formortis though, and Forde had his luck contributing a bit of hit and avo, so they weren't entirely the same. Early game was interesting with the bases' and inventory differences causing Forde to struggle so much on Breguet... dunno if that happened again in the second run but even if so nothing compared to the time waste on the desert map (even if that was a combination of bad Lck and bad luck)
Concept for a video for ya: Solo Ewan Druid run. (Sorry btw, just found your channel as of a couple days ago and been listening and looking at your runs as I play on Lunatic Fates using the only bonus of boots on Azura... but I'm now subscribed to ya! Keep making good content and all I am askin' for is Druid Ewan solo run. Pretty please!!!! ) As outside of Knoll, he is the only magic user capable of being an allied Druid and imho is a really good dodge tank as Druid and i have fond memories of trouncing every unit type with Ross, Amelia, and Ewan while going to the purgatoey known as High School.
I can't wait for the Ewan Run, I have a few ideas for it, but it might be a Druid, no promises though, we'll see what's better, but it is in the card for sure. Thank you for subscribing, I really appreciate it
@@kratosmvn_ for Ewan he'll probably do best as Druid or Sage, though mage knight could still work well with it's farther movement, the extra magic cap druid and sage have lets them reach kill thresholds quicker. Dark magic is also a lot stronger than anima magic, which suffers from a disadvantage against enemy dark magic, which monsters like gorgons and evil eyes count as, but the thunder tome is just so absurdly good that sage could win over druid anyways. Excalibur is also much better than Gleipnir, which is stupidly heavy at 20 weight, probably preventing you from doubling the demon king, but you might well just go with luna instead to completely ignore enemy resistance, though the shaky hit rate of 50 from the weapon could make it a gamble. Though, saying all this I forgot that Druids have access to anima magic, so druids can still use thunder and excalibur, while switching to flux to take out enemy gorgons and such if needed, though sages can switch to light magic to deal with enemy dark magic users. Nosferatu could be the wild card Druids have over sages, since it would let them heal aside from the limited healing item per map rule you have
Some great data from this run. Also, I thinking running 2 comparable units side by side would be way more fun, save you a lot of time (unless you want the video duration) and get you a lot more engagement and discussions for comparisons. Cemented GK as the superior choice for cavaliers in solo runs due to their combat capability and Garm access. We also cemented Garm as the best weapon in the game, most know this but there is still people that believe Adhulma is best because it's the best option for Seth. It would be very interesting to compare the cav times with Seth. Now Forde beating Kyle is a surprise to be sure. Not only did he get screwed on boots; you can glitch it to always pick it up iirc, but Forde had the luxury of his entire run routed by Kyle. I think Forde's time is largely contributed from you having gotten way more experince fielding GKs by the time you got to him. I'm sure that Kyle would beat him in another attempt because what really gives Forde his advantage is supports and that isnt a function of these solo playthroughs. I'm also shocked you were able to cap STR on Forde, you had him quite blessed both of his runs. Really fun and spirited video!
I think the side by side work well for certain characters (like here), so I'll use them when I feel it is necessary! We did get a lot of good data here you're right! I honestly think the major factor for Forde coming out on top was the whole boots thing tbh 😅 In reality they are probably much closer in all aspects. I got 2 capped-strength Forde which was really surprising, it was truly blessed runs for him.
I'm going to fucking laugh my ass off when you finally do the Knoll run and you get a bunch of really lucky level ups putting him far over his average. Just his way of spiting you for always giving him shit.

Knoll dying at this point is the sadistic reoccurring theme of the channel. Waiting for his turn will be legendary to redeem himself. Anyway, great video as always
34:00 Vidofnir coming back to bite you. Audhulma would kill. As long as there's no Wt issue, always go with the higher Mt. When attacking Lyon, the Brave weapon is almost always a better choice than the Killer weapon. They have the same Mt, so the Brave weapon does the same damage naturally as the Killer weapon getting one crit. The Killer can do more damage than the Brave with a double crit (14.44% chance on Forde here), but that's offset by the ~28.36% chance of the Brave Lance getting at least one crit. 36:52 Vidofnir biting you again. Audhulma would be a 5-hit kill, while Vidofnir drops to a 7-hit kill and requires an additional round of combat.
Something I have been thinking of, in terms of editing the rom to add in the character in place of Erika, couldn't you edit Ephraim's stats to max to not have to worry about being killed off by a stray add in the last map? He can just take the hits for low-to-no damage and you can park him in a corner and forget about him. The same for Duessel. You wouldn't have to worry about either of them being killed off in the Sands map. Loved the side by side this time!
Forde winning by turns is likely from the Boots incident of chapter 15, they more likely tie in that regard. The time advantage could be sourced from the fact that Forde was (seemingly) done second *and* had a second run to go GK like Kyle did
From the looks of this whole thing... It wasn't just the +5 speed from Garm but Kyle seemed to just take a whole lot less damage in general. it seemed like he was taking less hits and getting more no damage's than Forde as a Paladin even before it seemed like you were using Garm.
I am looking forward on how other units, like Swordmaster, Druid or Assasins, do on these runs. I believe Neimi will only be possible as a Ranger if you manage to get her Promo Item.
I've always preferred Kyle over Forde mainly because of their damage difference. Whenever I use Forde, he always tends to be 1 or 2 points of damage off from one rounding and it annoys me so much😂 also Kyle makes a better great knight since he is more likely to cap strength and defense than Forde.
A bit late to mention this, but this actually came out the day after my birthday. Which also means of came 2 days after my mother's birthday AND came out on the birthday of one of my cousins. Yeah... my family.does.this a lot.
Do you really think that they need the boots in a solo run? I think that the hunt for the boots probably hurt Kyle a lot more than having the boots helped him
The solo runs are showing combat to be far more important than movement. All the extra movement net was a Dshield and that was pre boots. GK stats allow it to keep pushing typically, while Pally may need to move back and heal more often. Bosskillers are important and can save turns through combat in a solo run.
Good question. There is a certain usefulness to them in the maps ahead especially in avoiding some damage from the weird gorgon AI on Chapter 18, but you're right that it did cost Kyle a lot. I'm sure there is a threshold of usefulness where at some point waiting for them just doesn't make any more sense, I'll probably look deeper into that in future run!
I'm pretty sure the boots are what give him enough movement to reach the dragons and some other enemies from outside their reach, but that was a hilarious amount of time spent waiting for the boots😂
Forde: my go-to if Franz didnt work out, very useful for rushing in if someone didnt finish an enemy off. Kyle: a good chokehold on postions, especially if Moulder and Artur are keeping him topped up. Yeah, I use and love both. How there's a divide here, heck, with any Christmas cav, is beyond me. Using both just makes em better, imo.
I was able to solo with Paladin Forde...after about 20 resets on Gorgon hellhole and 40 resets on Naglfar Leon. Had to do Demon King slowly, but was able to clear it first try. What really killed me in those areas was that my Forde got insanely Res screwed. Even after the Talisman, he only had 8 Res!
Kinda funny how your less lucky, less fast and less skilled run had more luck, more dodges and more crits... Yeah, luck's a big factor, but I feel liek you also kinda focused more on kyle, you didn't even try the "killing gorgons first" for forde, when he was having difficulty getting to the demon lord.
Given how horrible a time penalty the boots can be I think you might want to take their luck at the time they arrive on the boots (or chapter start) calculate how many turns they need for a given cumaltive probablility of having found them, and give them the item on that turn rather than actually letting the GBA rng decide it, because if your Kyle had been on a flukey day and first timed them or a bad day and taken twice as long it would make a massive difference in end stats (just require them to spend a number of turn relative to their luck stat on that square and make the boots a boss drop, feels much fairer to me by reducing god/horror real world luck effects on the runs whilst still having the luck stat determine how long it takes). Would reduce real world frustration too (he'll find them in ten more turns etc)
I would imagine the next one of these will likely be out fairly soon as you seem to go for one a month or so and this was apparently released 4 weeks ago (at the time of this comment at least)
The next solo run might be a little bit of a longer wait than the others given that I just came back from a week's vacation and before that the holidays were pretty busy for me.
Just Kyle. Forde sucks. Funnily enough, according to game data, Forde is coded to be Lv5, and Kyle is coded to be Lv6. However, in Chapter 5x, Forde is Lv6, and Kyle is Lv5. I think this means that Forde is Lv6 with "Lv5" stats, while Kyle is Lv5 with "Lv6" stats. Yes, it's weird.
Somehow it is very in character for Forde to come out the winner against all expectations... Nobody worries about the lazy guy on the back of the class until it's too late!
Seeing how good was Kyle in the final chapter because the Twin weapon: KYLE KYLEEE!! *ïnsert Eric Cartman voice* just kidding i always love using both the christmas cavaliers in every game
@@kratosmvn_ Assassin Colm could fly through everything with enough luck, but that relies on silencer proccing. I still think his amazing dodge rate will really help. Neimi is tougher, but once she becomes a ranger it gets a lot easier.
I just have to say franz is definitely meant to be the stronger of the 2 brothers. Franz is always incredible for me whereas forde has always been veryyyyy subpar
@@kratosmvn_ that's completely fair. If you're looking for a physical unit to try I think it would be neat to see someone difficult like Colm or Neimi. Although those two might just be straight up impossible.
as soon as you made forde a paladin for that first run I knew you kind of screwed him, not even considering the extra several damage from a higher strength cap of great knight, garm is just far, far superior to both vidofnir and audhulma. Ehhh......I think you giving forde that second run let you clear the game with him a lot quicker since you'd already played the game with kyle as great knight at that point. The extraordinarily bad luck in finding the boots also kinda skews the results against kyle... M Paladin strength cap of 25 + 36 damage of audhulma against monsters give you 61 total might, vs the demon king's 26 + 10/15 (demon light vs ravager bonus) defense, gives you 25 or 20 damage (usually 25 since the demon king usually sticks with demon light), which is enough for a 5 hit kill rather than a 6 hit kill-significant since it means you only have to risk 4 hits (1 in initial battle, 1 on following enemy phase, 1 in second battle, and 1 in the second enemy phase) rather than 5 (an additional dodge needed because of having to kill him on the 6th attack rather than the 5th). Vidofnir here needed 7 hits to kill, which just wasn't working out with the limited healing rule you have, but doing it with audhulma would have been much more feasible
Nah man once you gave up on the Paladin with Forde run, that was disappointing tbh. It was much more interesting to see the Paladin Forde vs Great Knight Kyle dynamic. You shouldve just reset to the point where you couldve given Forde Audhulma. I understand the reasoning for the full reset but it made it much less interesting
Sorry it disappointed you, but the reality of it is we already had that data. Audhulma would have contributed more damage, but our main problem of 60% hit rate on the demon king would have been maintained and on top of that our defense would have been lowered meaning we wouldn't have been able to tank an extra hit from demon king making his fight even more strenuous. Our Forde was already pretty blessed so beyond that hoping to get good luck on zombie dragon, Lyon and then Demon King just seems almost impossible. These videos take long enough to make that I'm not gonna add an extra 5 hours of my time running a build I know for a fact won't work, it would just be a waste of my time.
Like I know Forde is a meme and all, but man I hate Kyle. He’s basically like Kent from fe7, which is a character I already don’t like, but he’s somehow worse. I hate him so much he can go burn in hell.

Knoll has the Druid class and access to Excalibur, which is the magic equivalent of Garm. I wouldn't write him off yet. Of course, GETTING to the Demon King is probably going to be painful.

Yes, hence why I did this run this way because, in my opinion, the characters would have been far too alike to create 2 interesting distinct videos.

This, anyone who can use Garm and hit 18 SPE reliably is immediately better than anyone else in terms of combat. This includes Seth on Adhulma.
Garm is just so freaking good, it feels unfair.

Something I have been thinking of, in terms of editing the rom to add in the character in place of Erika, couldn't you edit Ephraim's stats to max to not have to worry about being killed off by a stray add in the last map? He can just take the hits for low-to-no damage and you can park him in a corner and forget about him. The same for Duessel. You wouldn't have to worry about either of them being killed off in the Sands map. Loved the side by side this time!
That's actually a pretty good idea! I might think about changing that.
Forde winning by turns is likely from the Boots incident of chapter 15, they more likely tie in that regard. The time advantage could be sourced from the fact that Forde was (seemingly) done second *and* had a second run to go GK like Kyle did
The time advantage was also tied to the boots I would think because going through 21 turns on 3x speed will cause time lost for sure.

I say start the new year with a Knoll solo run. You could say he wants a New Year’s Resolution to be better than everyone else in FE8.
It's a great idea, but unfortunately with the holidays around the corner I won't have time to get it done quickly enough.
From the looks of this whole thing... It wasn't just the +5 speed from Garm but Kyle seemed to just take a whole lot less damage in general. it seemed like he was taking less hits and getting more no damage's than Forde as a Paladin even before it seemed like you were using Garm.
Kyle did have better defence overall so that may have helped him on that front.
I am looking forward on how other units, like Swordmaster, Druid or Assasins, do on these runs. I believe Neimi will only be possible as a Ranger if you manage to get her Promo Item.
I also can't wait to get on those, I guess that 2024 will be the year of pure sword users lol

I've always preferred Kyle over Forde mainly because of their damage difference. Whenever I use Forde, he always tends to be 1 or 2 points of damage off from one rounding and it annoys me so much😂 also Kyle makes a better great knight since he is more likely to cap strength and defense than Forde.
Yeah, I generally prefer Kyle too. Forde seems to always to lack a little power

Do you really think that they need the boots in a solo run? I think that the hunt for the boots probably hurt Kyle a lot more than having the boots helped him
The solo runs are showing combat to be far more important than movement. All the extra movement net was a Dshield and that was pre boots. GK stats allow it to keep pushing typically, while Pally may need to move back and heal more often. Bosskillers are important and can save turns through combat in a solo run.
Good question. There is a certain usefulness to them in the maps ahead especially in avoiding some damage from the weird gorgon AI on Chapter 18, but you're right that it did cost Kyle a lot. I'm sure there is a threshold of usefulness where at some point waiting for them just doesn't make any more sense, I'll probably look deeper into that in future run!
I'm pretty sure the boots are what give him enough movement to reach the dragons and some other enemies from outside their reach, but that was a hilarious amount of time spent waiting for the boots😂

Forde: my go-to if Franz didnt work out, very useful for rushing in if someone didnt finish an enemy off.
Kyle: a good chokehold on postions, especially if Moulder and Artur are keeping him topped up.

I was able to solo with Paladin Forde...after about 20 resets on Gorgon hellhole and 40 resets on Naglfar Leon. Had to do Demon King slowly, but was able to clear it first try. What really killed me in those areas was that my Forde got insanely Res screwed. Even after the Talisman, he only had 8 Res!

Kinda funny how your less lucky, less fast and less skilled run had more luck, more dodges and more crits... Yeah, luck's a big factor, but I feel liek you also kinda focused more on kyle, you didn't even try the "killing gorgons first" for forde, when he was having difficulty getting to the demon lord.

Given how horrible a time penalty the boots can be I think you might want to take their luck at the time they arrive on the boots (or chapter start) calculate how many turns they need for a given cumaltive probablility of having found them, and give them the item on that turn rather than actually letting the GBA rng decide it, because if your Kyle had been on a flukey day and first timed them or a bad day and taken twice as long it would make a massive difference in end stats (just require them to spend a number of turn relative to their luck stat on that square and make the boots a boss drop, feels much fairer to me by reducing god/horror real world luck effects on the runs whilst still having the luck stat determine how long it takes). Would reduce real world frustration too (he'll find them in ten more turns etc)
I would imagine the next one of these will likely be out fairly soon as you seem to go for one a month or so and this was apparently released 4 weeks ago (at the time of this comment at least)
The next solo run might be a little bit of a longer wait than the others given that I just came back from a week's vacation and before that the holidays were pretty busy for me.
it feels like Lyons unlucky number is 8 cause I have seen waaaay to many of these runs where that 8% crit works

Funnily enough, according to game data, Forde is coded to be Lv5, and Kyle is coded to be Lv6. However, in Chapter 5x, Forde is Lv6, and Kyle is Lv5. I think this means that Forde is Lv6 with "Lv5" stats, while Kyle is Lv5 with "Lv6" stats. Yes, it's weird.
That would actually make a lot of sense and explain why Forde might be a little underwhelming.

@@kratosmvn_ Assassin Colm could fly through everything with enough luck, but that relies on silencer proccing. I still think his amazing dodge rate will really help. Neimi is tougher, but once she becomes a ranger it gets a lot easier.

as soon as you made forde a paladin for that first run I knew you kind of screwed him, not even considering the extra several damage from a higher strength cap of great knight, garm is just far, far superior to both vidofnir and audhulma.
Ehhh......I think you giving forde that second run let you clear the game with him a lot quicker since you'd already played the game with kyle as great knight at that point. The extraordinarily bad luck in finding the boots also kinda skews the results against kyle...
M Paladin strength cap of 25 + 36 damage of audhulma against monsters give you 61 total might, vs the demon king's 26 + 10/15 (demon light vs ravager bonus) defense, gives you 25 or 20 damage (usually 25 since the demon king usually sticks with demon light), which is enough for a 5 hit kill rather than a 6 hit kill-significant since it means you only have to risk 4 hits (1 in initial battle, 1 on following enemy phase, 1 in second battle, and 1 in the second enemy phase) rather than 5 (an additional dodge needed because of having to kill him on the 6th attack rather than the 5th). Vidofnir here needed 7 hits to kill, which just wasn't working out with the limited healing rule you have, but doing it with audhulma would have been much more feasible

Nah man once you gave up on the Paladin with Forde run, that was disappointing tbh. It was much more interesting to see the Paladin Forde vs Great Knight Kyle dynamic. You shouldve just reset to the point where you couldve given Forde Audhulma. I understand the reasoning for the full reset but it made it much less interesting
Sorry it disappointed you, but the reality of it is we already had that data. Audhulma would have contributed more damage, but our main problem of 60% hit rate on the demon king would have been maintained and on top of that our defense would have been lowered meaning we wouldn't have been able to tank an extra hit from demon king making his fight even more strenuous. Our Forde was already pretty blessed so beyond that hoping to get good luck on zombie dragon, Lyon and then Demon King just seems almost impossible. These videos take long enough to make that I'm not gonna add an extra 5 hours of my time running a build I know for a fact won't work, it would just be a waste of my time.

Knoll has the Druid class and access to Excalibur, which is the magic equivalent of Garm. I wouldn't write him off yet.
Of course, GETTING to the Demon King is probably going to be painful.
