🎮 ABOUT THE GAME 🎮
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones is a tactical role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems, and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance handheld video game console in 2004 for Japan and 2005 in the West. It is the eighth entry in the Fire Emblem series, the second to be released outside Japan, and the third and final title to be developed for the Game Boy Advance after The Binding Blade and its prequel Fire Emblem.
Set in a separate continuity to earlier Fire Emblem titles, The Sacred Stones takes place on the fictional continent of Magvel, which is divided into five nations, each built around a magical stone said to be linked to the imprisonment of an ancient demon. When one of the five nations, the Grado Empire, invades its neighbors and begins destroying the stones, protagonists Eirika and Ephraim of the royal family of Renais set out to gather allies and halt Grado's conquest, while also trying to uncover the reasons for the war. The gameplay is similar to previous Fire Emblem games, focusing on turn-based, tactical movement of units across a grid-based battlefield. Core features of the game include permanent death for characters defeated in battle and support conversations that grant advantages to certain units in battle.

His main content on this channel will focus on solo runs and challenge runs of all kinds spanning over the entire Fire Emblem franchise. He held a deep love of Fire Emblem since his childhood when he first played Sacred Stones on his Gameboy SP. I would set her on 1st place, even if Pierce triggers is still situational compared to Slayer consistency. As you mentioned, having javelins on those maps would have cut turns and time plus, considering that Arthur is more fragile overall, I think Tana does deserve that ranking.

A 50 turn save is way too much for anything other than #1
20:36 The glitch occurs because the pierce animation cancels out other animations and you attack faster than the HP bar can drain. If the HP bar is draining and you attack while it still happens the game breaks and puts you in limbo.
normally animations are long enough and get extended to avoid the issue but pierce just does its own thing in animation timing.

I love how the wyvern fixes so many of the issues that might have troubled Tana. Low con? That's fine, we'll give it a hefty boost. Low strength? That pierce chance has got you covered. Doesn't have the coolest overworld sprite in the game? You're not gonna believe this. Wyvern solves it again.

I feel like Artur won on time because slayer and magic in general meant he could one shot or one-round enemies more easily in the later portion of the game. Don't think Tana taking two hits to kill should count against her honestly.

Try cormag next! Loving the content by the way, I think that tana's turn count puts her at #1, capping all of her stats was satisfying.
Another great way to know who's solid is to look at the draft race metas (although availability is no longer a factor)

Tana would easily be Number 1 and the thing is that this is not even optimized yet. Mounted Unit , great bases , great growths and a busted promotion is all Tana needs. Lute gets an early promotion on Chapter 6 at the start but Tana is insanely on just “kill boss or seize chapters” since she just bypass everyone and goes for the kill. Also , RNG affects a lot , for example my Tana at 20/20 already has cap STR , Skill , Speed and Luck on most of my average runs , only HP , DEF and Res are not cap.
Glad to see I wasn't too off base with the ranking! This run was so smooth at times I felt like I was zooming.
Tana I always found such a pain in the rear to grind up, especially on Emphraim's route... But, I was always pleasantly surprised when I did decide to grind her up, with this video proving why. Very nice.
Yeah, the join level at Chapter 9 can make it tough for her to catch up, but her growths are really good so she can become such a force.
Little late but you can always save your star boosters for up until that point +2 str/skill/def and 7 hp can up her survivability enough that she doesn’t need to be baby sat until level 9 or 10 that’s what I do anyway especially if Vanessa takes off early enough

Getting through the early game with such a fragile lance-locked unit looked stressful, but after she picked up steam she was unstoppable ! Number 1 for sure, it's just fun bypassing huge swaths of map just because terrain means nothing :D

I count summons as okay since they are a mechanic built into the class and is just like any other skill in my mind!
I think Tana should be first! She is pretty good and from watching i could see that she had a easier time going throwing levels in general, even if she seem to not keep up in the first few levels early in the game.

Tana is an easy #1 since turns are verifiably the easiest way to track how well a unit is doing while play time can be affected by all kinds of outside factors.

Tana is easily the best unit, she’s number 1. She’s amazing, high movement, pierce, great caps and amazing lance rank make her the best unit. Also the fili shield nullifies her arrow weakness. She’s 1st.

Tana definitely ranks first, but I'd be interested to see how she fares as a Falcoknight. Probably worse considering swords aren't THAT much of a boon but it'd still be interesting to look at.
Also, would like to see how Knoll or dark magic Ewan fares. Nostanking + Luna + phantom strats are pretty wild.
As a Falcon Knight she'd be an interesting and way harder run to be fair!

True, pierce came in big a couple times near the end of the run. I think she would struggle to kill the dragons and boss with the lower falcon knight stat caps and no pierce.
Having attempted Knoll, I was having difficulties getting past chapter 8, but honestly that might just be me being bad. He should be fine getting past that, but I sorta lost patience and just took a prolonged break lmao
And it turns out i'm just stupid. I thought it would be unreasonably difficult to get the guiding ring on chapter 5 but I did it on a second attempt, and i literally had no trouble on chapter 8 after that. That combined with the dracoshield from one of the houses really does help patch him up
This run reminded me of my first FE8 playthrough where I paired Tana with Cormag bc I thought they were cute together. And then I ended up with 2 wyvern knights soloing the entire game 😂

I really, really, REALLY wanna see you try Ewan. Obviously one of the Dark magic classes is best for him (I personally prefer Druid since I find it just flat out more powerful than summoner and the Phantoms from summoner can end up costing you valuable items)

You mention its can happen when the enemy cant counter attack, however im pretty sure ive gotten this glitch to happen when fighting a hand axe user.
To be fair, this was the first time the glitch happened to me. So, my explanation is just what's on the wiki.

For how you're structuring these playthroughs, I agree first place yes! Cormag and Vanessa might give her a run for her money but the wyvern knight class plus flying plus great growths makes Tana an incredible investment. Enjoying the content man I love keeping FE 7 and 8 fresh with fun runs.

Slow start because of axes but, she's easily #1. She's one of the few units that can match Seth when trained.
Cormag and her have a support that is honestly too much. Sure Cormag can be slow, but when he is, that's fine, just make him Tana's support buff.
Also, poor Falconknight. Only good for a Triangle Attack, and even then, Wyvern Knight has Pierce.

@@kratosmvn_ Probably the best support duo. I always struggle to avoid using them.
falconknight has some benefits for regular playthroughs. since they have lower con than Wyvern knights, they have higher aid cause of how mount aid formula works, so they can be used to rescue drop heavier units around much easier than wyverns (think promoted gerik, dozla, gilliam, garcia, etc). there's more utility to units than just how they perform in combat
@@pyr0_jack Gerik is the good unit you've listed and even then I'd still take Vanessa and Tana as Wyverns over Gerik.
Tana def 1st. Turn count is more significant and it's sooo much lower! Time just comes down to the player time spent strategizing and will vary always, regardless of character. Turn count is much more tied to the character.

Pierce came in handy after all to compensate her lack of strength.
Dude, in the last chapter, you forgot that tana doesn't need to fight the doggos. She can fly through the center of the map where both doggos can't attack her, although it will trigger wight reinforcement, which shouldn't be a problem.
Idk if that strategy will save Elixir or not, though lol.
Yeah, I never go the middle route because it opens you up to Gorgon attacks earlier while fighting the reinforcements and usually the Gorgons are a bigger problem than in this run.

If you do want to do Ephraim’s route, one thing you could do is put an extra save at the end of chapter 5, play through to chapter 7 normally, take a screenshot of the character’s stats at the end of chapter 7, give Ephraim the stats, class, and portrait, reload the chapter 5 save, and then play through it again.
Oh yeah, that's a very good idea. Maybe at some point if I try these with Ephraim's route I'll do that :)
I just had a bit of epiphany just thinking about the earlygame for Tana, and for future Lance units. It was slightly rough for Tana, but it's going to be brutal for Vanessa... and... oh no... oh dear... do I hear sad Amelia noises in the background?

I think Tana should have the number 1 spot. Turns seems more important since a lot of time can be eaten up simply if there is a bunch of enemies that turn things into a slog. But a good unit wont be struggling in that case, it's just a matter of the enemies being a chore for them to deal with, which will be apparent in the turn count. (That argument may justify reordering Lute and Artur? BUT that is assuming it's just a matter of enemies and not other factors and I'd need to rewatch those runs to remember where the time discrepancy comes in.)
Been watching an old/ongoing series of solo runs in Pokemon Red/Blue, and it's been... interesting... thinking about these two series in comparison. I'd normally say Fire Emblem is the harder game, but doing that one quickly is certainly it's own challenge. The real interesting thing is just how weird those games are (as in buggy and glitchy). People talk a lot about Fire Emblem and RNG, but geez, at least here it is working correctly and you can honestly say you're avoiding glitches/exploits, which is actually impossible in those first gen Pokemon games, strictly speaking. Sure does create some hurdles and change your entire strategic outlook in ways you just can't account for.
Yeah there are basically unavoidable glitches in the Gen 1 Pokemon games that makes Solo running without them harder than it should be. While you can certainly use exploits and quirks in game mechanics for FE (RNG manipulation, enemy control glitch., etc...) these tend to not happen by accident so avoiding using them is very easy.
I think Tana deserves to be #1, even if you don't value turn count above time, her turn count lead is significantly bigger than her time deficit.

To me turns matter more because they only go up with actual actions in game. If you get up to take a pee then turns stay the same while time increases.

Not sure if you know this, but you can get an angelic robe by not letting any villages get destroyed in chapter 9. Doubt it'll help that much because Tana ended up capping anyways, but hey, extra HP is extra HP.

Yeah, I was aware, but it's never a possible situation with the solo runs, so it fully slipped my mind that maybe flyers could be the only ones to be able to do it.

Tana deserves #1. That is a whole 46 turns saved compare to lute's run. Not having a javelin costs more time than you think, especially on chapter 15 where there are multiple magic reinforcements, hand axe users, and those annoying rangers. R.I.P. Kyle :(

Hmm, Tana will struggle early game because of low hit rate against all the axe enemies, as well as her frail defense. Her low con also really doesn't help her with lances being fairly heavy. Some lucky early defense level ups will really help her survivability.
Your level 20 tana was really nice, very good strength bonus, and on par defense means she's in good shape. For promotions-it's gotta be Wyvern Knight-that +4 constitution is incredible for Tana and Vanessa, and Pierce is absurd. Just gotta watch out for the the pierce glitch with ranged weapons. Though, personally I usually make Tana and Vanessa being falco knights for sword access as well as being able to use triangle attack for laughs, also to avoid the pierce glitch being possible since I've had it happen to me a few times and I like playing with animations on, so having a wyvern knight always runs the risk of the game freezing if they use ranged weapons

Lvl 20/20 Tana turned out great. I think the pierce animation glitch is because the pierce animation plays faster than the normal one, so if there isn't a counter animation to let the game catch up with the HP drop animation the game freezes up
Pretty solid run from Tana, unfortunate loss of time/turns because of running out of javelins, but still pretty good overall. I think Tana is in spot 1 for now-if the turn count was closer between Tana and Artur maybe he'd be number 1 still, but 50+ turns better on Tana's part is way more meaningful than 30 minutes of real time which could be lost in various places. He did beat her because of having no resets though, so that is something he has over her
Yeah, her early was quite tough, but the luck was on our side overall.
The missing door key was actually on Ephraim, I mean to bring it up, but fully forgot during the recording of the voice over.
She really had a solid run so it's hard to knock her out of #1 spot especially given the turn count.

As soon as I saw the thumbnail I was dreading the Pierce glitch. I know about a QoL patch that fixes it (the sole reason I got it), but it changes more things so I don't think I should recommend it for the remaining flier runs. If someone knows about a standalone fix I think it would be great to let Kratos know about it. Restarting because you made a mistake or got bad RNG is fine, but being forced to do it by a glitch is unfair.
Wyvern Knights are OP like that, so it's no surprise seeing Tana take #1. I'd say Tana being 41 turns earlier is a bigger difference than those 30~ minutes of Artur, but it's still very close with these two. All of this is meaningless though because we all know who's going to be #1 when all is said and done... our boy Knoll of course!

Yeah, Wyvern Knight is just sooo dominant. Imagine if Knoll were actually 1st... lol it would be the greatest comeback story of all time.

I would argue Artur, because I always been of the opinion that we should rate the actual performance and not the what if scenarios.

FEBuilder has a patch that fixes the Pierce glitch. Assuming that's what you are using to modify your ROMs, it shouldn't be hard to implement it.

#1 without a doubt in my mind. Even among more recent fire emblem games, I've often given her the title of "the most dangerous woman in fire emblem". Course it helps that she has a god-wrecking skill, and sacred stones (even on hard mode) is probably the easiest fe game.
The reason for the javelin crash is simple: it happens bcuz the enemies hp doesn't whittle down fast enough before the second strike connects. I've had a terrible experience with that crash when it happened on the second to last floor of the lagdou ruins and had the restart the whole thing.
Yeah she can wreck shop! Most dangerous woman in Fire Emblem is an apt title I think!

Tana was an excellent surprise, I prefer her over Vanessa and I really think she deserves the #1 spot above Artur! The turn count difference is huge and will be unmatched until we see someone duch as Cormag come in

So, for promoted units I'll do the run as they are initially because, imo, if you downgrade the levels you're essentially just playing another character. Their bases being high at first will just be a feature of the run!

Tana #1. I don't think the extra time from needing to redo a level due to a game freezing bug should penalize her, and she is Substantially lower in the turn count. If you have the data, a deaths column would be interesting to see as well.

Grabbing death count is a little trickier cause I would be 100% on me to properly keep track and sometimes I go on auto pilot with these runs and get dumb deaths that are not really representative of the character itself. So I'm hesitant to add deaths.
I don't know the super deep dive explanation but I believe what happens with the Pierce ranged glitch is that for some reason the animation doesn't wait for the HP gauge to finish depleting before continuing on to the next blow, and something about that makes the game hang. Could be that the game is now trying to wait for the HP gauge to deplete but it's not moving so nothing happens.
Gotta get a Summoner up in here! (It can be Ewan instead of Knoll if you hate the guy, but I'm honestly not sure who'd be worse.)

I think it would be best if you separeted time and turns for each character, so this kind of stuff dosen't happens
Preferable though, I don't think that Time & Turns isn't a good way to look at someone's perfomance, though I don't know of a better way
Not a bad idea, but then again I think they are simply markers and context around those numbers matter quite a bit.

I wouldn't say turns matter strictly more than time, but I do feel like that turn gap is way larger than the time gap and Tana earns the number one spot.
I think you're right no metric matters more than the other because context matters a lot around those numbers.

Hey, it's best girl time! Anyways, I figured she'd suffer in the early game due to bad bulk and triangle disadvantage vs a bunch of axe bandits. Cheesing enemies from the mountains with a javelin is a great workaround though. Guessing she'll be great in the late game, since she's going to be very hard to touch and hits back surprisingly hard. Falcoknight and Wyvern Knight are both cool options, and she won't have to worry about things like slow desert movement or chasing down gorgon eggs.
Yep, hard early game, but a breeze beyond that!

imo the whole turn count vs time debate doesn't really matter across all characters and only really matters across similar characters. ie. fliers against fliers, horses against horses, and unmounted against unmounted. In that regard both tana and lute are #1 in their categories so far.
Her turns were better, but his time was better, and it feels like the difference between each is pretty evenly matched, so I'll cheat and say they should be both #1 🤭 but yeah that pierce glitch is exactly why I can never promote a flier to Wyvern Knight outside of an extreme circumstance like a solo run (because it really did make a difference in the end), too much risk and not enough reward for me. Turn count matters so much more than real time. Real time is not indicative of good gameplay outside of an RTA speed run.

Would it be possible to manipulate the groth rates of the characters?
I see a lot of Solo Pokemon challange runners that give their pokemon perfect or most beneficial IVs so they banish that from interfering with the consistancy and the luck factor. So Pokemon can be better compared with each other.
So wouldn't it be a good idea to give the units a 100 % growth rate in everything so in the end you will compare perfects to perfects?
It would be possible to do that, but then, imo, it would rob each run of it's uniqueness. The units in Fire Emblem, unlike Pokemon, have caps tied to their class and gender and are not all unique. So a Tana and Vanessa run would be the exact same. A Forde, Franz, and Kyle run would have no differences at all. The growth factor is so important in making Fire Emblem unique that giving the opportunity for perfect stat would not give use runs that are as interesting as they would more or less feel the same.
With that being said, it may interesting for a video to do a 'what is the best class to solo run with' using the idea that it gets 100% growths.

I am more familiar with the newer Fire Emblems like Awakening and beyond where the caps are vastly diferent depending on a lot of factors.
But yes if they are basically the same if you change the growth it would make no real sense to compare them in the end.

Wyvern Knight is the best flying class in FE8, where Pierce alone can be a time saver in a run of this nature, given enough opportunities.
Pierce allowed me so many moments of 1 shoting that were extremely clutch, I love that skill.

The biggest surprise is that the Pierce glitch only happened once.
Did/Do you bother to pick up the Killer Lance in 5x? For lance users it can be a good get, but would also require playing the chapter without your main unit differently.
Yeah after the one time I tried being a little bit more careful with using Javelins.
I actually forgot about it, I'm so used to just skipping it that I did not pick it up even though it is quite a useful item.
So much to ask for, but what if at some point you do a redo of her? I feel the Javelins would have made HUGE DIFFERENCE!
At some point I may take the time to go over a couple of the runs again to adjust a few things.
In my opinion it should prioritize turn count unless they're within like 10 turns then time should be the decider

On Final 1, if you go through the middle you dont need to face any zombie dragons with fliers I think. Maybe thats usefull for the Vanessa run
