for Christmas I made very light baby blue linen napkins to match my formal china with a wide cherry red linen border, turned out so beautifully everyone LOVED them! I made them "2-ply" which made them very rich looking on formal table - coudn't have made them so perfectly without your tutorial! Love your generous sharing of your work and talent with the rest of us- God Bless!
I must have watched ten videos re: mitered quilt borders before I found you ladies. Your instructions made mitering as simple as it really is. The other videos instilled a fear in me! I just tonight finished my four mitered corners. Your demonstration is with a square block. You might want to include that most quilts are rectangle and, therefore, the fold before marking the cut is different. Thank you for your wonderful help!
I can't thank you two ladies enough for these instructions that were easy to follow and gave perfect results. I've been trying to do this for years! Thank you so much xx
Thank you so very much for these tips, I was going through the worst miter corner nightmare, until I found you, you save my project, thank you, thank you
It so does! Sometimes I just tune you in because you are such good company when I am sewing. I tune in the Carters on Pandora and you guys on the Smart TV. It is not as clever as you guys!lol We must do tea sometime. Although my hobby Chef Barista husband can make a mean Latte if you prefer!
I wish I would have found this earlier before I attached my first two scalloped borders with ribbon accent. But two of the four corners worked flawlessly, yes it was so easy once I followed your steps. I just have one corner with a shorted side on the border, to correct and finish this quilt. Thank you for your easy to follow tutorials.
I've been quilting for 30 years and do mitered corners occasionally. I've always used other methods but this time saw yours and found it by far the easiest to follow. The result was 4 perfect mitered corners first try, no unpicking or frustration! Thank you!
THE VERY BEST tutorial I have ever seen for mitred corners. I was looking for an easy tutorial for a friend and I was so pleased to find this for her. Thank you
Wow!!! looking for help on doing a mitered corners and I ran upon your youtube video Font & Porter's. Excellent, very easy to follow and not a lot of explaining. I saved it under my quilt file. Thanks
I tried mitered corners many times and haven't been happy with my results. I viewed a lot of videos trying to learn! Yours is the best. I finally did them. Not exactly perfect the first time, but now I know what to do to make it so the next. Thank you.
Thank you soooooooooooo much for this video!!! I have a little quilt called Let There Be Chocolate that has the top finished except to miter the corners on the large border. It has been a work in progress (and frustration) that started 12 years ago and has been in and out of my UFO bin more times than I can count fighting with THOSE corners. I watched your video and put it into practice. In less than 1 hour, the corners are done, fit perfectly, and I can sandwich it after all these years! I am beyond thrilled and have saved the video for future use. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
I used this tutorial to learn how to do mitered corners for a lap quilt I made for my father-in-law in December. It worked wonderfully and my quilt turned out great! Thank you!
These ladies are quick and efficient and when you watch a few times you to will have the confidence to miter corners with ease to the pint of two or three colors using their method! Have fun it is sewing it is fun and relaxing wish I could see what you made!
I have been sewing for a very long time and I have yet to get comfortable with mitered corners. I have ruined several quilts because of this. NOW I am more confident so my next quilt will have gorgeous corners!!! Thank you!
Just made these mitred borders on my quilt and it worked beautifully. Followed all the hints and each corner came out perfectly first time. Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial 😊.
Thank you! I just finished piecing a quilt top which called for an outside sash with mitered corners. All the tutorials I found so far were for mitering borders, not sashes. Your explanation is perfect! You all should do this for a living!!😉
Thank you, thank, you thank you! I did my first quilt 11 years ago and I mitered my borders. Being busy with two jobs I haven't been able to quilt a lot, but now that I have retired for one of my jobs I have much more time to quilt. For some reason my first quote was the only one on which I mitered my borders. Your video helped me so much! I seriously did not have the faintest idea where to start. My borders turned out beautiful! I owe you many many thanks! 😍
Thank You! Simple and easy. Never thought I'd say that about mitering. With Covid, replacement fabric is hard to come by so needed to modify my pattern and learn to miter corners. All 4 look like a professional completed them. Thank You!!!
Just finished my first four mitered corners and they are perfect! Thank you for this tutorial. I was intimidated about trying this, but it really is very easy to do.
Very helpful. Been quilting for years now. Wanted to up my game. And always been afraid to try this. But, you explained to nicely. I'm confident in trying this now. Thank you 😊💓
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful video with me. I do know how to miter, but I like your Technique better. Because I've been a sewing for many years I know where you started to sew but you didn't show that on camera until after you already started to sew it (for beginners). l believe it would have been better for you to show where you put the needle to start the miter to start sewing but thank you again for sharing.
omg! thank you so much. I've been searching on how to add lace border to a handkerchief and all I got was videos of people who made them. thanks again ladies. xoxo
Thank you for the video. I've been trying to do my corners just like that but kept messing up. Now that I have watched your video, I'm sure I'll be able to do my corners without an issue.
On second thought... now I'm not sure this is sew easy afterall! I'm making squares for a quilt and I'm using this idea to create miter corners. I've created mitered corners before on another quilt for the binding and so I understand the principle behind it but on squares I'm having trouble with making the lengths equal after sewing. You two don't mention mistakes and how to fix it other than take out the stitches (which I've done more than once). Any suggestions? I have completed 2 but just trimmed off some to make squares perpendicular or perfect squares. I've cut away fabric from another quilt when I thought I was finished because I didn't make sure squares matched. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've followed your instructions to the letter! -Thanks
love it, and where do I get the instructions, I would like to do a 12" square, sew how long will my strip be, very new to this, thank u. and GOD Bless.
lucinda padgett Your strips (border) lengths would vary depending on the width of the border. For example is your borders were cut 3" wide you would need (3" x 2) + about 4 inches. We tend to cut them a bit longer than needed. It's easier to trim off when finished, but short is not good. This would give you 3" on both ends PLUS a couple of inches insurance......Sorry I didn't get a chance to visit this site for a while. Busy preparing new video materials and things for our upcoming PBS series taping. God Bless:)
Hi, thank you for the video! Can you explain how to make a patch pocket with metered corners as seen from the right side, basically, instead of sharp 90 degree corners, there are additional cut side?
my question is why not make both corners at the same time. you have it folder over and in the past have always been good about doing the mirror of each
What's the next step after this particular video? I'm stuck at the backside corners. They're not as flat and beautiful as the front (this video is wonderful for the front!)
Exactly the tutorial i needed. Everyone else was telling me how to do edging or binding and not how to do the piecing itself. Thank you!

Thank you!!! You showed and explained this so simply. Others made it overly complicated.

Hi, thank you for the video! Can you explain how to make a patch pocket with metered corners as seen from the right side, basically, instead of sharp 90 degree corners, there are additional cut side?
Merci pour cette démonstration
Do I press the rest of the border edges other than the mitered part?
sorted ! Thank you for helping!
my question is why not make both corners at the same time. you have it folder over and in the past have always been good about doing the mirror of each
What's the next step after this particular video? I'm stuck at the backside corners. They're not as flat and beautiful as the front (this video is wonderful for the front!)
Would you still fold the same way if you quilt isn't square.
I hope you still reply. Thks
