Feels like a lot of this Amn video got sidetracked into Waukeen. Would be nice to hear more about the five houses, cowled wizards, etc. Fantastic video as always, just felt it went a bit off-topic.

The thing about countries outside of the Sword Coast and the Heartland is that they've gone neglected for decades now. The entire continent of Maztica, for example, has gone completely untalked about since it reappeared. We have basically no idea what the current conditions of Amn are like, how they dealt with the spellplauge, how they're dealing with things now. There's just been nothing.

Amn is my favorite country in the Realms. I have many I like, but Amn has a flavour to it that has intrigued me for a long time. I love building campaigns for my players or introducing Amnian NPCs into my games. Makes for extraordinary intrigue when I can add it!

As much as I appreciate videos about the Forgotten Realms, this one was more about Waukeen and the lake monster than it was about Amn.

My first legit game started out in Athkatla, where I played a young sorceress. Since I was barely familiar with the _actual_ lore at the time and only knew stuff from the Baldur's Gate games (which take some huuuuge artistic liberties), I based her backstory mostly in that. She was born on a small farmvillage not far from the capital, but the peasants there thought she where cursed, thanks to her sorcerer abilities (she also had a demonic bloodline, so that didn't help). So her father gave her to a temple in Athkatla, in the hopes that the villagers wouldn't reach her there. Instead the Cloaked Wizards (aka the Grey Wizards) picked her up and moved her to spellhold to use for their sick experiments. Once they grew tired of her there, one of the Cloaked ones took her in as his ward and "apprentice".
    Man, I miss playing edgy™ characters >.>
These days my characters tend to be the most down to earth in the whole party.

I was a dear fan of BG2 and spend about half a year in the Fanfic community "The Attic" (now known as Gamejag). That fanfic community was what made me start buying manuals, and the key reason (as mentioned in another comment I just made) was over the in-game maps being horrifically out of proportion.
I'd like to imagine that in my headcanon version of Faerun, there is still a Delryn family who are a linage involved in the Order of the Radiant Heart. Another branch of the family used to run Spellhold, but it may have fallen afoul of Spellplague.
Current story running around in my head has an Amnian paladin who is a Steel dragon in disguise. He's part of the Radiant Heart which has accepted Bahamut into it's patrons after the Tyr-Tymora-Helm mess forced Tyr to step down and Bahamut to take up his portfolio in the human pantheon.

One of my friends who DMs at our local game store in the unofficial organized play is running a planned series of homebrew modules over the next several weeks that follow the desperate advent of Balagos' resurrection in Amn. He's been running homebrew for months in different tiers about hobgoblin armies that swear to Tiamat and communities of lizardfolk being made more militant, yuan-ti who are advancing the agenda of the cult of Balagos in the Troll Mountains and Snakewood of Amn. Just thought I'd share the concept here because I'm rather enthusiastic about Fred's stuff. Thanks for a great history video!

I am grateful for your videos especially this one because I am starting my campaign in Murann. I don’t think they are going to stick around for long but some of them sound like they want to pick a fight with the country or some factions of it and we haven’t even started. I mainly want to know more about the spellcasters like the Cowled Wizards, the emerald canal and more about the churches within the town as well. I also would like to know about the shadow thrives which seem to be a big power with the country. If I can’t learn more I can always make things up but it would be nice to not have to.

This is all I could find on the Emerald Cabal “Standing beside the merchant houses in power were the Cowled Wizards, the Emerald Cabal, and the Shadow Thieves, each of whom possessed an enormous degree of unofficial power behind the scenes. The Cowled Wizards were themselves the only legal arcane institution in Amn, all others banned by decree of the Council, and were controlled by the powerful Selemchants, who they served most often as underhanded agents or mercenaries. Opposing the Cowled Wizards were the secretive Emerald Cabal, a league of illegal arcane spellcasters opposed to the entire Amnian system and who were unafraid to use violent means to achieve their ends.“

My friends and I are playing a homebrew campaign at Amn, first arround a little town which was the prologue where we could know each other as characters and then travelling to Athkaltla. As far is it known, mostly by my PC who is a cavalier with noble background of Cormyr, the background is based in some trouble with comerce, arround the year 1479, where the relations between these two is somehow lacking by both parties, and the uncle of my cavalier is one of the ambassadors and has been looking for clues, like WTF is happening here, also our party has been attacked by some bad guys who wants us to be steped out of his way for whatever reason. Long story short, once we arrived at the big city, a riot/civil war erupted, we had to run out the city, or at least try to, became separated, but we were saved by some OP wizard lady who was friends with the uncle and is one of the royal mages of Tethyr... who, due to the inestability on the region, became the temporal regent of the city until the situation gets better...
Also out party is the most.... weird: A human noble cavalier, a Half-elven lady cook wizard, a Dragonborn warrior archer, an elf shadow monk who thinks is naruto, and a Kelemvor tiefling cleric...

Abeir and Toril are sister worlds. Parts of Abeir went to Toril and vice versa during the spellplague. The Sundering has returned most places and I believe Maztica is back and you are able to visit it by sea travel or magic.

My company start in 1518 y, about 30 years after official lore. Amn was unequal and corrupted, and tradelords long ago rediced ppwer of militias. And some of 5 were planning against others. So one of em sent wildshaped druid to spy. Druid took afvantage, killed 3 lords, 2 escaped. Then he started revolution, and militias, who hated corrupted government, especilly after ecent ogres raid, after years of civil war took amn. Druid proclaimed himself as emperor. Most of gods were no longer worshipped, trade decreased, but militsry power grew enough. Tethyr also was nearly civil war, which was provoked, and after amn took down it, soon after calimshan, murandin, where genocided all orges, and velen. Amd player come in place knowing, that amn had just liberated halruaa. And every other nation is scared, cause amn grew in 8 times in just 2 decades by conquering everyone. There is no such thing as fair trade. Free yes, but fair is impossible. Both parties would need to have equal information about the product, and the seller typically has the edge, and usually by a large margin.
The one of the few times a buyer has the information edge about a product is in pawn shops, where sellers typically have little to no idea how valuable is their product.
This asymmetry in information is why people buy products 99% of the time that they would be disgusted to buy if they knew the while truth about what goes into creating their products from start to finish.

Actually the Sythillisian Empire- huge legion armed monstrous forces lead by Sythillis,
the male ogre mage and his wife Cyrvisnea had managed to conquer the bottom half of Amn during the early 1370's with the assistance of Cyrist strategists. They were able to succeed because was Amn was majorly distracted by the defection of Rialtavin and Trailstone to Tethyr and spent most of their resources trying to assassinate key players in Riatavin and instigate political intimidation, so that they'd rejoin Amn. The two cities left Amn because they believed they were shafted from the Maztica trade deal (They got trade businesses in Maztica).
The Ogres had taken over various forts on the lower side, and sacked Esmelteran, Imnescar and eventually took over Murann the port city . The Ogres were looking for an special armory but they couldn't find it.
After several futile attempts by Amn, Selunite forces keen to get back Murann because their temple resides in Murann. Organised troops from all over Amn, adventurers, mercnearies, travellers and all allies they all can muster and eventually took back Imnescar in 1372. A year later they were able to take back Esmelteran due to a distraction from a Great Blue Wyrm attacking towers in Sharp Teeth mountains during rage of dragons (That is where the main monstrous enemy forces lived. Oh yeah the towers were also inhabited by the Cyrists.)
Unfortunately they were never able to take back Murann. Even during the current setting the ogres still owned the port city. Though after some time after they retook Esmelterran the Amn and the Ogre empire called a truce to fight a massive stinger threat far below. So yeah i think at this point Amn just let the ogres take Murann.

Maztica need to be revamped. Mostly because it should become it's own Empire and not ruled by Amn. Maztica has so much potential but it lacks so many things of what it could be.

I liken Amn to mediaeval Moorish Spain.
