The hood is bowed. You can see the gap change by just the change of position of the camera

That’s pretty common. The hood hinges get stubborn and it will bend the hood if you push down from a corner. It could also we a worn spring on the hood hinge

Bowed hood isn't typical, at least it wasn't on the 1972 Formula Firebird I had.

I had a stock 350 firebird, not a formula. The formula had a 400 ci motor did it not. Ones I saw did anyway.
