      Heads up, there is a glitch I had that caused my CPU to overheat. Once it hits 100°C, it shuts down. I have the regular Scar 17". The issue is related to Dolby Digital sound when using headphones. I ended up doing a system restore to fix it. I setup the manual setting to turn the fans to 100% by the time it hits 80°C. If you don't, it can heat up faster than Turbo mode scales up the fans then shutdown from excess heat. No problems with GPU temps. The new fancy cooling system on the SE might be strong enough to keep it cool.

      It has not failed me once for now. I often have two games running at the same time (one being just idle/incremental, but still). Also, in one game (Soulstone Survivors) I could go farther than most other players did - the game had performance issues the deeper you went due to the increasing number of enemies, bullets and effects, so yeah, I definitely felt it is above average laptop.
      It's portable enough for me and being able to take this powerhouse with me when visiting parents or in-laws is really great. Though I had to get new backpack, cause my previous laptop was only 15.6''.
      For now it's still the best screen I have in house, so I enjoy watching tv shows and movies on. Might not be 4k, but still big difference to old FHD.

    This device is certainly really cool a lot of nice features inside it. But on the other hand you can see in the opened shots that there is a lot of unused space inside the device, especially around the battery. Since the battery run time isn´t the best, why didn´t they use this real estate to put in a larger 100wh battery? Or better speakers, more thermal headroom? This device isn´t cheap so anyone buying is expecting the best of the best, this seriously doesn´t feel like it.

      I hate the fact that vapor chamber cooling is only available on the highest end model i9 + 3080Ti. I'm personally looking for a i7 + 3070Ti (since it will be easier to cool and comes close to 3080 performance without the $) but lack of better thermal options means that the i7 won't be running at its best (at rated speed of 4.7Ghz, or close to it). Or simply just for running components cooler.

    • @FullyChargedSRG
      @FullyChargedSRG 2 года назад +2

      @@Heliosvector This device has a 90 watt hour battery, by saying a 100wh I assume Luka is rounding up the 99.9 and questioning why Asus didn't put in the biggest battery they could if the Scar is being branded as the best of the best. There are now a few different laptops that do have 99.9wh batteries which are top of the line, yet this doesn't have one. The original comment's point is that this device has a lot of minor compromises compared to other top spec devices that while they don't sound like much, added together will slightly tarnish the end user experience, compared to a different top end laptop. when it's a 4 grand device, it really shouldn't have any of these drawbacks.

    • @Rs8tails
      @Rs8tails 2 года назад

      I dont think you can do it that way because the preinstalled OS comes 50/50 on both of the M.2 since its in raid 0 configuration. You could either clone both of those raid 0 onto a single 2TB M.2 or if you wanted raid 0 it would also already need to be paired through the BIOS. I havent used Macrium. You could probably do the cloning with a M.2 PCIE addin card on a desktop but my motherboard supports ASUS ROG DIMM M.2 Module so I can have 5 SSD on my motherboard.

So i would have to purchase another SSD external enclosure to attempt to transfer the O/S which is needlessly installed 50/50 on both 1TB SSDs to the 980 pro. Which sucks. Another great review Jarrod, I can't really explain how happy the depth and detail in your reviews make me!👏 Was tempted by this before but it's £4,000 in UK (exactly as you stated). Managed to pick up a Legion 7i 2022 (3080ti/2TB etc) for £3,300, so hoping I made the correct choice but until it gets here or you review it, I could be a chump!

    Summary: MSI Gt77 performs better in GPU for most results, however this one performs better in CPU
    However, Titan has more memory / NVMe slots, and is a bit cooler, especially in idle it's a full 20c lower compared to this one, not to mention the mechanical keys (big plus).
    Pro, this one is cheaper though

    This is weird.. I ran cinebench and my P cores in the MSI 15" GE67 are at 4.2, then they drop to 4.1 at 95 degrees and stay there. I have just raised ceiling to 98 degrees for throttle which I think is still safe. The processor is a 12800HX.
    And also just a 15" chassis. OLED screens are incredible and this is the first I have ever seen, but this laptop has a TON of problems which I'll go into in your inevitable coming review.
    But that said, yeah, Asus power limits must be very low? 3.2ghz is terrible at 89 degrees when I am getting 4.1hghz at 6 degrees more. That's almost an entire ghz more.
    My CBR20 is 8700, haven't tested R23 yet. That's the highest result I have ever personally had on any PC with CBR20.
    My previous best was the Legion 7i at 5700. Note, this has double the cores but not double the threads, it has 8 more threads, and the legion 7i can sit at 4.6ghz on all cores all day without a sweat, so I guess that is about right as far as scaling for the MSI 12800HX goes vs the 11800H overclocked.
    MSI have locked this unlocked processor down, I can't change multipliers or anything which SUCKS.. I would have loved to set to 3.8 to avoid throttle. Whatever!
    EDIT, oh ok, your 3.2ghz was with GPU loaded too.. You get much better scores when cpu only, will probably kill mine. However! Why do you not show what GHZ you hit with an 100% cpu only load?

    The 12950HX has a higher base clock of 2.5 vs 2.3 on the 12900HX. For those that like to disable turbo, that matters.
    Do Asus have the processor unlocked with access in XTU?
    I have been looking at this again as it is quite compelling, but there is no option I can see in AU but the 1080P screen. Big mistake in a laptop this powerful.
    Sales are obviously proving this, as this is still in stock everywhere whereas almost all other Asus laptops are sold out everywhere. I can almost get past lack of webcam and any kind of windows hello support, but for close to 6K AUD I just don't think I can get past lack of better screen options.

From what I can see the HDR is fitted only to the high end scar which is at least some 1k more expensive then the strix which has the regular 500 nit Nebula.
