The guys at the shop give their brutally honest reviews of the Dodge Neon SRT-4, we put it through the paces, BREAK IT and then do it all over again before parting it out and seeing if we made any money on the car!

He's not kidding.... That 2.4 came from the factory with forged internals and nitro friendly pistons ... The block with with no mods factory crank factory pistons and so forth can hold 600 HP no problem ... With just a tune and a better waste gate it'll make 380ish HP that car they have is probably making around 420 to the tires and it's no where near tuned correctly
It’s an incredibly fun little car that makes most V8 drivers insecure…Lol I’ve got an 03’ with 155k miles and it’s still fun as hell to drive. The issue is too many people want to rev their engines at me all the time when I’m in it, so I only drive it once in a blue moon. You had fun in a wrecked one; now imagine one that’s in good working order. 😉
Wish I saw this video earlier I could’ve helped you guys with the part IDs. I totaled that car in December. Got hit head on by an illegal with no license. Glad you guys got some fun out of it 😂 even though you were only on WG controlled boost. Also after watching I think I know why the clutch was cooked lol
Head and trans were fully built. Block had aftermarket rods and pistons. Wish I didn’t pull the boost controller off at the junkyard lol you would’ve had way more fun at 29psi than you had at 15
@@user-ng9pv4dt1q I worked on that car! When did you buy it? I remember doing the rod bearings on it, maybe around 2007 or 08. A family member was buying SRT4s and selling them (I dont agree with his business "model", not to mention I was free labor, but I was doing things right for whoever was buying his junk, though this one, and an gold orange SRT4 were nice). Sorry to hear you were hit. Been there too. Wrecked my fight gen Camaro that way, though I had it repaired...but sold it recently and miss it just the same.
Looks like someone got a built motor for $1500... dang. I have an O5 PT GT 5 speed, wish I saw these parts a year ago. :)

That neon was beautiful. It was honestly painful to see it torn apart and trashed. I currently have two of them, and had a 3rd. My main srt4 is about to get a fully built motor and after tuning should be around 700-800hp. I’ve had a mustang gt and corvette. My first neon srt4 stole my heart. I wish that one you guys picked up would have been restored instead.
The way these cars are dropping like flies, whether wrecked or parted out, and parts being discontinued, their value will definitely go up.

If you look at the bare shell, the frame rail is kinked all the way to the firewall. Theoretically fixable, practically not even close to worth it.
I miss my 05 SRT-4 orange blast 😢 ex wife sold it while I was deployed…. But everyone sleeps on and underestimates this little neon.
As an enthusiast this hurt so bad to watch. That SRT was actually pretty clean and should have been fixed. I can’t believe what you paid for it. RIP white girl.
Owned my srt4 since 2005 80k best car I've had owned it for 17 years probably the cleanest srt4 with stock clutch. Love to pull on mustang guys and see the look on their face when u leave them in the dust.
I do it in my pt gt all the time you think they get mad having a neon walk em you should see the tears when a 482 HP pr cruiser pulls em down the track ... I have the 03 in the picture and a 05 convertible with 42k on it and my son who swore he'd never drive a pt sold his Audi A4 and bought an 07 gt wagon .. that srt4 motor is the cheapest way to have a blast I've ever come across

yeah people dont realize that the guys that made these were pioneers for the hellcats. loving my all original 35k SRT4
SRT's were one of the most slept on tuner cars out there throw a walboro 255 fuel pump bigger turbo and injectors and you've got a 350-400hp monster of a street car I've had a few over the years just recently picked up an 05
I use the same mods on my pt and tune it myself I have 2 an 03 pt gt with a built auto trans and an 05 convertible gt the 03 makes 482 to the front tires and is way faster than my 05 convertible which makes 503 to the tires but launching the 5 speed is tricky .. with a prepped track and good tires the convertible will beat the auto but just everyday light to light racing the 03 wins every time.. the 03 is completely gutted with me and a half tank of 110 octane it weighs in at 2635 pds I live the look on the faces of corvettes and shit when my little 1200 dollar piece a shit pulls em light to light
@@edpenkalski8937 I've had a couple PT GT's they're fun with a few mods I currently have a SBE big turbo 05 SRT that makes 521hp/489tq on 26psi and e85 with stock internals other than crane 18's and crower springs was shooting for 550+whp but the 58/58 turbo is at it's limit it barely made anymore power on 30psi I have a BW s366 I'm planning on throwing on it once I get the new built bottom end finished so far it's been 11.18@ 131mph spinning like hell lol I also have a Srt swapped 1st gen with a mopar stage 3 kit that was redone by SDK with their billet wheel and external gate mods also has BC stage 3 cams, AMM box intake and Mpx 62mm tb and the head has been ported by my buddy Chuck, it made 408hp/386tq on E85 haven't really pushed that setup to far it's my daily so it's typically on a mix of pump 93 and E lol I love these things man I've been building neons for year's
I think we're we separated at birth and you're my long lost brother... I'd give my left nut for an srt4 but unfortunately up here in bflo ny they're either whooped or rotted but pt gts are a dime a dozen.. the price is going up on em though when I bought my first pt gt it was for a winter car so I could take my 96 formula 350 off the road I paid 600 bucks for the car it had 106k on it minimal rust and once I replaced the blown turbo that son of a bitch was close to as fast as my formula .... I built my first turbo car when I was 23 it was a Pontiac fiero with a swapped in super charged Buick 3.8 got rid of the super charger for two Borg Wagner 52mm so I knew exactly what the pt cruiser needed then I found the modern performance website and have been beating v8s like they stole my lunch money ever since .. it's so easy to sucker an ego with a pt cruiser and walk away with a couple hundred dollars ever Saturday night in the summer . Still own the formula and after building the motor I drive once in a blue moon but I'm just letting it sit for my 3 year old by the time he's old enough to know what it is it should be worth a good penny ... Same thing with my 05 convertible it has 62k on it makes a tick under 500 whp and gets raced at the track ... The 03 on the other hand .. I call her the bad penny and she puts in work pretty much every time I turn the key lol
@@edpenkalski8937 lol I've been picking on V8 guys for years everyone sleeps on the neons and SRT4s but they'll fly with a few mods I got lucky DCR (Darrell cox racing) used to be in edan Nc which is 5mins from me and my uncle worked as a tech for him for years starting back when his shop was still known as PhatRides so there were tons of neons and SRT4s around here me and most of my family and friends have one or have had one over the years they're pretty easy to find in good shape we don't have to deal with rust but that typically means a higher price tag unfortunately... but between me my uncle, cousin and my friends we've had easily 100+ 1st gens and 15-20 SRT's we used to buy none running 1st gens and fix and sell them to fund building our own so there were times we were bringing in 2-3 cars a week lol... it even went as far as our local sheriff's office investing us thinking we were running a chop shop because we were bringing so many in and selling them or parting them out just as fast.... I still have a mountain of parts at the shop and in my basement for the neons/ SRT4s and PT's we still buy wrecked SRT's and PT GT's and part them out

It’s not a muffler delete they come with no muffler from factory. The thing with that car of yours is just a bigger diameter exhaust but again they come stock with no muffler.
This car sounds better then the r8 because I have had a huge love for these cars, I had one black one four separate times because I kept missing it.
I love seeing how four-cylinders make these big truck guys in V8 guys cope and act like they aren't enjoying rolling around in the SRT4 with basically a nice little performance kit
The SRT4s came from the factory without muffler’s I believe.

It is definitely one of, if not the the best sounding 4cyl on the planet. A Gintani exhaust SVJ sounds amazing though.

Don't hate, I daily a 2005 SRT4 (75k miles) with a Garrett GTX3076 Gen2 (dual ball bearing). Full supporting mods. I also owned an 05 brand new when I was a kid. I am not sure where the whole "unreliable" thing comes from... meh. It has known issues, but you can avoid them by addressing them before it's a problem. I've driven across the country with my first one multiple times without issues. I do agree that the overwhelming majority of the ones left are abused piles of shit. But boy, it sure puts a smile on my face when I pull on someone with a brand new car payment.
As the video went on, this car made us hate less! It was definitely an impressive car, especially considering it was pulled from a salvage auction and still did it’s thing!
@@scraplifegarage I'm honestly surprised the thing ran at all! haha. And yah, it's one of those cars that is relatively cheap, fast and dirty. No power back windows, no frills. It's what made me fall in love with them.
I had a blue 04 srt4. Favorite car I ever owned. 3rd gear issues are a very very common occurrence. I had my trans out 3 times in 120k miles. Once was a clutch also.
I have a eblue sitting in the driveway rn. Spun a bearing. Bought it since 06 had a warranty blew up two trannys and had them replaced by dealer for free. Bone stock just a diablo can tune. 115k rust starting tho as usual with these cars cause theirs fucking styrofoam in the quarters and near pinch welds from factory

Your profits weren't bad, but a much bigger win would have been for someone with less means to have scored this car and it's performance cheap as a whole.
Perhaps it would pay better in the future to repair a car like this and make it a give away for your subscribers.
After all car enthusiasts are car enthusiasts first which makes parting out cars some of their least favorite content. It's fascinating to get a look at how the business works, but not so much when they are watching their treasure be your junk.
Just food for thought. That Neon was a super easy fix and a missed opportunity to relate to both the passion and the financial realities of your subscriber base.

@@mopardude707 mines not bad ive put rockers new coil pack wires cold air upper strut bars struts the 280 mm brakes new rad n fan water pump cam seals timing sway bar links. but I did to ac n power steering delete “power steering frozen when driving ops” it is a lil rusty didn’t wanna play chase the lines to find leak. Neons are my favorite cars but in Vermont they are getting rare n they don’t hold up very well “rot” my srt sit inside in winter . This will be my 3rd summer owning it

Bidding it up . I was the highest bidder for most of the auction . If I had seen the mods I would have went higher but those pictures didn’t do it justice.
There was a super modded one one slicks that ran a few days after that looked like a nice car too

@@scraplifegarage very cool. I don't think I've seen that car in real life. I've owned a first gen mazdaspeed3 with a resonator delete and it was the closest sound to the srt4 I've heard, other than a fiat Abarth. Awesome content guys. New sub!

I’ve seen these going for 20k to even a 30k one with like 5,000 miles. Crazy. Normally 7-10k
So very much late to the video, currently have an SRT-4 and before I got it I did all my research and some interesting facts is that 1. They came from the factory with no mufflers. 2. They were made and engineered by the same team in dodge that made the viper
Btw those are Siemens 1000cc injectors, worth a couple hundred. The rail is nearly worthless, as everyone gets a Boomba rail or gets a rail out of a 2003, which is the the only year that came with a Shrader valve for an easy spot for a guage.

@@scraplifegarage No problem. If you want to know what one of the most sought after and valuable pieces on the car is, it's the front bumper. A clean original is worth around 1k alone (if its got all the trim pieces). Number one thing people did back then was hack them to pieces, paint them, or the cardinal sin of cutting out "the crosshair." Instantly makes the bumper worthless. I'm checking through the parts you have up to see if I could use anything. Thanks!

There good cars if you take care of them but buying one from an auction and test driving them then saying this is what happeneds to these cars is ignorant 😂.. I willing to bet most cars around that price or from an auction you will have to pull over after driving hard like that

I noticed in all your videos you don't really keep none of the windows from vehicles North doors even if they're in great shape and I don't know if that's just that you don't really care to deal with them but I do know you're cheating yourself from making more money by not keeping the doors and windows

Love it. Should consider a matte paint job for that car. Is the bottom end built on the neon for 800+ hp
From what I've looked into the bottom end is safe to 450 hp...mine is stock other than transmission and straight pipe,to keep mine collectable insurance covered where I live, I can try to mod it to around 300 ish+ and get away with it

Thats srt4 is clean. Just need front bumper and another carbon hood or buff that one out and then good to go but these guys have no idea about the car. Dont talk bad about it until you own one. Everyone hates on them because other people talks on them but never owned one for themselves.
