Our thyroid also produces T1, T2 & Calcitonin. We need TSH, T3, T4, free T3, free T4, reverse T3 & thyroglobulin checked. I get my levels checked every 90 days. Especially now I'm 48 & have the symptoms of menopause. Thank you Barbie, it really is common sense but endocrinologist have zero common sense. Also, the change in seasons from hot to cold weather can cause thyroid levels to change due to core body temperature changes. Weight loss & weight gain can cause levels to shift warranting a change in thyroid medication dosage.

Hi doctor this so helpful! I found your videos as I follow Hot and Flashy and others that showed you. You are truly God sent. I just got your second edition book and have listened to some of your videos as much as time allows me. I was so ignorant on this topic of Menopause and now I realize why my hypothyroidism has been giving issues last 3 years and three of my doctors knowing I am in menopause did not bother to provide any education or options even though i have been suffering from sx. I really love the way you teach with all the prompts. Thank you!!!

Dear Menopause Barbie, I just want to say a HUGE thank you for these videos. They really are a huge education on the menopause, quite unlike anything I've found before. I've been going through post meno anxiety/depression and because of your videos, have now booked myself into a menopause clinic to get some bloods taken and possibly start a course of HRT. ( And I also know what to ask for now.) PS Do you really change country every year? Wow! That's quite an adventure.

I used to move to a different country each year. I've lived on every continent except Antarctica. And I've lived on some continents multiple times (Europe, North America - U.S. & Canada, Asia). But, now I'm staying put and focusing on making sure I do the very best job for you on this menopause education.

I ve hypothyroidism since 2011 nd m on thyroid replacement therapy for the rest of my life. The hormone therapy has given me my life back. I don't feel any symptom of hypothyroidism. That's why I see so much logic in hormone replacement therapy post menopause coz that's the deficiency state.
Looking so lovely in black barbie. ❤😘

HELP! I just found you and I love Your videos because they’re very informational. My primary care doctor have not referred me to any specialist because nothing is wrong according to my blood work only elevated cholesterol but my “good” cholesterol is high so I guess that cancels the high cholesterol. I’m 57 have hot and cold flashes, low libido, tired all the time, join pain, mood swings, and for the past year trouble sleeping. My last period was when I was 45. I want to know what type of specialist I should see and what specific bloodwork should I request. Now that I found you I’ll be going back to watch your videos from the beginning. YOU ARE A BLESSING TO ME😊🥰🙏🏼and to all the ladies here.

Welcome aboard to "Menopause Taylor University." You'll find that if you start at the very first video (going by the number after each title), you'll understand absolutely everything. And you'll be shocked at what you didn't know, and delighted that you now do know.
Each video builds on the last. It's just like school: You had to learn the alphabet before you could read. And nowadays, there are so many overwhelming misconceptions that women mistake as facts ... that you just don't know what you don't know.
I respond to all comments here on RUclips daily. So, I will answer all your questions ... but I'll also know if you aren't watching the videos in order. (I'm like your mother. I have eyes in the back of my head!)
Your question is precisely the kind of thing for which I do one-on-one consultations. You definitely need one. I cannot tailor things specifically to you in a comment box. It requires much more information than you can give me here, and you deserve much more information than I can give you here. No two women are alike, and addressing your situation requires tailoring all the facts specifically to YOU. I do them all via video conferencing. You can schedule at MenopauseTaylor.ME. I look forward to meeting you and helping you.

Best to see an endocrinologist for thyroid. You r right about the dosage issues. The meds can be tricky

    • @MenopauseTaylor

Exactly! Always use "disease" professionals for diseases an "wellness" professionals for wellness. Traditional medical doctors know nothing about wellness. Alternative & wellness practitioners know nothing about disease.

Most endocrinologists are so ignorant & very closed off to anything except Synthroid Levothyroxine which is the absolute worst medication in my opinion. Most endocrinologists will not even test anything other than TSH. Not one single person I've met in the last 10 years has had any successful thyroid treatment by their endocrinologist.

Thanks so much for sharing this. I thought I needed an adjustment in my HRT medication but found out I had Graved disease. I explained that it wasn't a hot flash but it was weird that I would get so hot like it was a hot flash. I didn't have the twinge and then bubble up getting hot feeling. I just got hot for longer periods of time. Luckily I want to my pcp and found out about the Graves. My gyno didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about when I asked about adjusting my HRT because of my symptoms. I'm profoundly sad about that and will be educating them when I go back in July.

Thank you for sharing all your wisdom so freely! I’m 44 so not expecting menopause just yet but am confused by my cycles coming every 11-16 days over the past year or 2. I do have hypothyroidism and am on meds which seem to be keeping it at a good level. My doc did an ultrasound and biopsy of uterus but nothing significant showed up. He says the next option may be to get an IUD but while that may help the bleeding symptoms I’d love to figure out the cause. What are the most common causes you see in women who are bleeding this regularly?

7:17. Not necessarily. I know a lot of people who were able to QUIT thyroid meds with proper nutrition and diagnosing. Most doctors do NOT know how to properly treat thyroid problems. It’s tricky to find a good doctor to deal with this. And there is a lot of info out there where anyone who is willing to educate themselves can access. It’s boils down to how badly you want off of them.

I am 63 yrs old. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at 21 yrs old and have been on thyroid medication for over 40 years. I have my levels checked yearly and medication is adjusted accordingly. I stopped taking synthetic thyroid medication about 20 years ago and started taking natural desiccated thyroid hormone which greatly improved my symptoms. I went through menopause with almost zero symptoms, no hot flashes, etc. I cannot even pinpoint the year it happened due to no symptoms! My periods were never regular so I barely remember when they stopped completely. I started working at a clinic where they used HRT pellet therapy at age 59. I started receiving HRT and within 3 months gained 15 lbs and was miserable. I went from 115 to 130. I felt the worst I have ever felt in my life. After doing my own research, ( because my endocrinologist was of no help) I came to the conclusion that I had estrogen dominance. I stopped the HRT and it took about 6 months to lose the weight and return to normal. I started taking progesterone only and feel much better. I have been taking it for about a year now and don't know if I should continue taking it or stop. I really don't know why I am taking it at all. There is very little information on the subject of progesterone only with hypothyroidism. Very little information at all for HRT with hypothyroidism. What I do know from experience is it does not work the same as for someone without a thyroid problem.

I am 55 and I'm MOST concerned about my hair thinning. I'm now postmenopausal, but my hair has been thinning for a good 2 years, and now it's the thinnest ever. I used to have an unusual FULL head of hair (had to use large hair clips to hold it all in). Anyway, my TSH in 2017 was 5.9 (at its highest point) and now is above 3.5. I saw an endocrinologist who put me on 25 mg of thyroid meds., and it seemed to go down to around 2.3, but he said that my hair loss is likely not due to my thyroid. What ARE the numbers for a healthy T3, T4, and general TSH? I just need to know where I need to be and see if that's the major reason for my hair loss and not necessarily the menopause. I'm so depressed about this hair thing! Please help. I don't think I wish to get on HRT is that's not the reason for this problem.

I am hot all the time even though I am anemic and froze to death most of my life. I have gained weight, extremely tired and have absolutely no sex drive. It actually makes me sick when i fact i used to want sec all day everyday 🤦🏻‍♀️ and being single now is probably for the best. 😊 My first med didn’t work and the second caused vasculitis so I am on nothing and going nuts. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m sure my doctor is confused with all my issues. 😆

Close to a year latter she got Brest cancer. She was told it was due to HRT. I was 25 and my sone was 2. It scared me so when I started menopause ( very early at 40). I just grinned and bared the symptoms because I was scared to take HRT. My doctor never really talked to me about taking it. Now after hearing from you through Hot and Flashy I see I should have considered it.

I’d like to think there is a flip side to this conversation.
I was going to Dr’s in my 20’s saying please help me , I have no energy. Never received any help from any of the Dr’s I went to. Saved all of my energy for work.
Any time I needed more energy to get stuff done sadly …. A cigarette & some caffeine would help me get it done.
Fast forward to 48 , I don’t even have the energy to take a shower anymore. I don’t care if my laundry gets done.

I was diagnosed with Cushing's and empty sella in 2018 and had pituitary surgery in 2021.
I don't know what's what, what's normal or what's due to Sheehan's. I've been all over the place for so long now.
My recent labs shows super high progesterone, low testosterone and GH, in range estrogen with a diagnosis of endometriosis. FSH was 18 5 days into my menstruation.
Even though my progesterone was really high, my gyno prescribed progesterone because my menses are slightly off. Sometimes it's 7 days early at other times it's 7 days late.

My TSH was 3 in December 2019. I’ve been on 75mcg Levothyroxine for 20 years. I started feeling bad in February 2020 and was tested again and my TSH had shot to 9. Dose increased to 100mcg. I was tested again in May as I was showing peri menopausal symptoms and my TSH had dropped to 0.54. They didn’t change my dose but acknowledged I was definitely in peri menopause. This month (July 2020) I have been suffering with very bad lightheaded feeling and very painful acid reflux. My U.K. doctors have been terrible during lockdown and not been helpful at all. They haven’t even put on my record about the reflux. I’m treating myself with omaprozole. They tested my blood again this week and it’s 3.75 but they won’t do anything for another 10 weeks and then test again!!!
I just want to feel 80% well. The lightheaded ness and tight chest/acid throat are the worst. I can cope with hot flushes and mood swings but the weird head/throat/chest are unbearable.

I have a thyroid goiter. 2yr ago it was non toxic....(75mg of levothyroxine for hypothyroidism) yet here I am with hot flashes and I can’t decide if I’ve got thyroid cancer at this point or if it’s menopause. No period in 6mo. Prior to that I had one every 3mo or so. I need to get to a doctor I guess to rule out thyroid cancer but.....I’m currently at children’s hospital with my 7yr old who is receiving reinduction therapy for leukemia.
I’m terrified to go check my own thyroid. I cannot fathom having chemo with my child.
My hot flashes come out of nowhere....I can drip in sweat and then come out of it as fast as it came on.....numb face. Terrifying since I can’t tell if it’s my thyroid or not. 😞 I hate this.

I need to make some adjustments again and I choose to manage thyroid at my own risk with nutrition. We are all so.different. My most noticeable and annoying thyroid symptom for me is.cold intolerance.so I can understand heat intolerance as well and if anyone was in a permi hot flash I don't know how they would function and I imagine it would be of.medical concern. I know people dealing with heat intolerance and they're ok. We prefer to visit outside so everyone is comfortable.

I went to my doctor several years ago complaining of brain fog, weight gain, hair loss, dry skin, insomnia and feeling tired all of time. I was certain it was menopause. When she ran tests on me, she said that it was more than likely due to my thyroid since I was still ovulating and my sex hormones were within the normal range. After running thyroid tests, she determined that, even though my thyroid levels were normal, they were on the lower side of normal. She then started me on thyroid meds. It did not help my feeling tired all of time, so she increased my meds thinking that would help. It ended up putting me into hyperthyroidism. This was three years ago, fast forward to today.....I am now seeing a functional med doctor. She decreased my thyroid meds in half, however, still not agreeing to put me on HRT since I"m still having a period and my levels are within normal range. I'm still tired most of the time suffering from brain fog and very low sex drive. I feel like it was never my thyroid but since I've been on the medication for three + years being on the medication has ruined my thyroid function.

You are a victim of doctors who are treating your LAB values instead of treating YOU. Your labs are but a snapshot in time, and they do not reflect what is going on in your life or what is going on in your body over time.
I thin you were right all along. I only wish I had started providing this education sooner.
You should seriously consider scheduling a one-on-one consultation with me. I will help you avoid pitfalls in the future, and make sure you know the consequences of your hyperthyroidism. Don't fall victim again. Let me educate you so that you're ahead of the game.
I'm in the business of educating you about everything you need to know and do in order to get exactly what you want for managing your menopause your way. So, here's how a consultation works:
      1) You would schedule a one-on-one consultation at my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME, choosing a time that is convenient for you. I do consultations on Skype, FaceTime. Facebook Messenger, What’s App, and the phone.
      2) I would confirm that you are scheduled for the stated time, and invite you to send me as much information about yourself as you please. You can make it brimming with details and tell me about your reproductive life, any gynecologic problems you've had, your symptoms of peri-menopause, and your symptoms of post-menopause. You can include all your fears, concerns, and goals for your menopause management. You may also send me any labs, mammogram results, bone density results, etc. that you would like me to include in designing your protocol. For instance, if you want to adhere to a certain category of management options (herbs or diet & lifestyle, or whatever), you should tell me that. I would need all these things at least 1 week before your consultation with me.
      3) I'll get busy creating a document that gives you all the education you need to understand absolutely everything, points put the pros and cons of each option, and tailors it all to YOU using the information you have provided. The document will be loooooong. Most are over 30 pages.
      4) I will send you the document by email 48 hours before your consultation. You will benefit greatly by reading it in advance. Light bulbs will go off like crazy, and if you're like most women, you'll feel that you've already gotten your money's worth.
      5) During your consultation, we will review the document and address any issues you want to fine tune everything and determine your best options. I'll tell you exactly how to find the right kind of professional, how to have the conversation in order to get what you want, and the nuances of things like guidelines and insurance. I leave nothing unaddressed.
      6) You will go to a professional of your choosing in order to get the actual hormones or whatever you choose to use.
      7) After the first consultation, I'll hold your hand (forever if you want me to). In other words, you'll be able to schedule mini-consultations (15-minute or 30-minute, in addition to full consultations) whenever you need to. I'll keep records of your situation. Most women schedule mini-consultation whenever they go to the doctor and don't understand what he or she said, or why. I translate. I make sense of everything. Most schedule mini-consultation whenever they have a new test and they want me to explain the results. And all schedule mini-consultation whenever their situation changes and they need to re-weigh and balance their options.
The time you spend with me will make everything about working with any other professional so easy. And they will love the fact that you have an actual education rather than a bunch of misconceptions that you got form the Internet. If your initial hormone regimen is not right, you'll want to consult with me before going to your doctor. I can prepare you for what to expect and what to request.
So, that's my role. And nobody else on earth does this kind of thing but me. So, I hope you schedule a consultation and let me hold your hand (figuratively).
I hope to meet you soon!

My obgyn and I decided to try oral estradiol 1 mg.as I had been on it before so I gave it a go. Was previously on .5 patch for several years. Heat persisted and I about a week ago I noticed a small nodule on thyroid. Just had a ultrasound on thyroid yesterday and will be getting full thyroid panel done as soon as gp gets my lab order sent. Would my hrt cause the goiter since I noticed it after starting 1 mg pill or I am assuming it was brewing!!! That said we decided to go back to the ).5 patch thinking it was too much estrogen. Well heat persists as well. I am sure I am going to be consulting with you. Although I am comfortable with my gp I am wondering if I should see my daughters endocrinologist. Hi just found your channel ✊
I told my doctor for over 3 years my new symptoms were not menupausal I started going through the menupause in my late 40s (I had my womb removed in my 30s) so I knew those symptoms, but my doc kept saying it was menupausal 😠 I did have bloods but doc said their normal. I got my medical records about a month ago and in black and white it said I was probably hyperthiyroid then a year after the consultant diagnosed me with thyrositis NEWS TO ME... as I was not informed of this!! Forward to 2018 when I became severely unwell bedridden ect my doc took bloods came back as hyperthyroidism 😠 then I went in to thyroid crisis taken to hospital for 10 days sheer hell, had to have my thyroid removed in 2019 because it was so toxic.. Nearly killed me, I'm now struggling with the medication I was on T4 for 8 months but kept having loose bowles cramps ect found out the T4 contain lactose I'm lactose intolerent😠 put me on T3 lactose free been on that since but my T3 has not moved much I would have thought being on T3 it would have gone up some, I've got hairs growing on my chin and this may have something to do with estrogen dominance. I've now sadly found out my parathyroid glands have gone overactive (I know they are totally different to the thyroid and produced calcium) so I now have a raised PTH and raised calcium, it's a right mess, I'm due to have a bone density scan, kidney scan and the camera down the throat 😭) my endocrinologist didn't want FSH done as she said their is no connection between them and the thyroid 🤔🤔 think she may be totally wrong,
