- It’s Fred Williams birthday weekend so it’s time to get the old Butter Jeep ready. But not normal road trip stuff. I’m gonna 4 link and air bag this jeep first. Follow along as I show you the process and the adventure.

I always thought DED episodes needed to be longer with this type of additional tech content. Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise and knowledge. I look forward to every new episode at the Dirthead Shed.
Thanks for watching. It was kind of a lot of work
For sure! That would have been awesome. Hopefully one day MotorTrend will figure out that is what most people watching want to see. Seems like they are still stuck in the old TV world. This content with Fred and Dave would have been perfect!
@@thedirtheadshed indeed a lot of work but your casual explanation as you think it through to completion is really worthwhile for many of the folks who watch your projects
I for one really appreciate your talent 👍 I have a YJ I’m slowly resurrecting and want to do the 4link
This has been very helpful for me personally
Dirt every day is a good channel. The guy really knows what he's talking about.
Thanks
Awesome build! Tell Fred "happy birthday!" from a random internet stranger
Will do. Thanks !
Love the longer video… I think you did it just right with telling us the plan, showing a little bit of fab, and then jumping to the key moments.
Thanks. It’s long but hopefully not too boring
@@thedirtheadshed no way man! I can't imagine how tough it is to build and record... all while crunching on a deadline. You're a legend!
I was always a fan of DED but I am seriously loving these videos. It is so interesting to me to see how you build stuff!
Thanks for watching, tell your friends, time to make this channel big
Dude ! It is such a pleasure to watch you work ! Pure artwork and the fortitude to just plow through what is needed to be done ! AWESOME TO WATCH !
Huge upgrade, and in record time! Bet that'll be so much nicer now.
It really drives well.
Nice hustle Dave, nothing like a friendly deadline to motivate you to get into the shop after work and put in long hours on the weekend. 💪
So many hours!
@The Dirthead Shed worth every sec.
Can you do a video explaining air suspension design. Why you choose the type of bags you do, why you choose the size(?), what brand, etc. You are one of the biggest proponents of airbags in off road vehicles and there isn’t a lot of information out their on building your own system for 4x4s.
Great video by the way. Its good to see you still creating content.
Yeah. I just don’t have a bunch of different bags to show the differences between
I second this video suggestion
Roadkill, dirthead shed and 4x4 fred... legends🤙
Much appreciated
I am super interested in how you plumb this, and why. I remember back in the day the Scorpion buggy with the forced articulation absolutely fascinated me, but I never understood how he achieved it. I have considered adding airbags to my CJ to improve my leaf sprung articulation, stability, and have adjustable ride height with winch to help suck it down when needed. I would love to see you do an episode on benefits / drawbacks, and theory on airbag suspension. I love what you are doing, you are still a huge asset to us broke knuckle heads trying to be cool.
I’m going to start a series of what to expect from air suspension soon. I have never been a big believer in forced articulation though. So I’m not sure how into that I will get
@@thedirtheadshed I would be interested in hearing anything you have to say about it. You have dipped mini trucks and crawlers in the sauce. I cannot think of anyone that could have a better understanding of bagged junk of all flavors.
My favorite part is the motor rattling, just like the 4.0 in my Jeep! Lifters? Pushrods? We don't care, it's still good for another 200k
It’s starting to worry me
That little Jeep is amazing…the ride must be a huge improvement too!! Always awesome watching you build stuff👍🏻
Thanks. It does drive really well
Love all the technical stuff, most shows and programs skip the small details that make all the difference.
I tried to get more technical stuff in this one
The preposterous ideas and the tenaciousness of you and Fred to make them happen were fun to watch. Digging this show too.
I always said it was Bad ideas. Great follow through
This makes me want to build my OBS GMC RCSB K1500 the same way, or similar, if only I had the funds, the knowledge (I'm absorbing lol), the tools, and the space...oh, and maybe a 4 post 😅 hey a guy can dream for the moment lol
You will get there
Wow 😮 I’m speechless I wish to have some skills like you have to do all that work, I don’t trust in my self to do anything in my jeep 😂 great video 🤙🏻
Thanks! Start small. This is some pretty advanced stuff
I've run a couple sets of the Milestar Pat X/Ts. Quiet, great in snow, rain, red rock and granite.
I dig them
love this build! be careful not to input too much heat into the stainless while welding it. welding dissimilar materials is tricky. It can make the stainless brittle and prone to cracking. I am sure you likely know that. but just wanted to note it. Bit of heat blanket insulation to slow cool it may be the best option.... and sweat the carbon before you join them to minimize hydrogen embrittlement
Thanks for the tips!
"Im short on time....hmm ill put airbags in"...Only You! LOL. Love it.
I’m the king of bad decisions
Dang man, you work wayyyy faster than I could ever hope to work. Super awesome Dave!
Thank you
Dave, that's excellent, I really appreciate your taking the time to edit all of this and post it for us
Awesome Karma out to you
🤘😁
Thanks. It’s a new hustle but I dig it
Amazing fab skills, Dave you truely are the airbag master, who does that, fab up a 4 link on airbags and take it on a 1300 mile shakedown, only some major skills and many years of experience, thanks for the very informative and entertaining video
Thanks for watching!
Loved the long episode.
Thanks. Trying to see what most people are willing to watch
Your work is always amazing. I'm hoping watching your videos, and Dave's, and Finn's inspire my kids to build cool stuff when they get older (my daughter is 6 but is the first one to help work on my square body. Have you considered opening your own shop, building and working on other people's toys? Your fab work is always neat and clean and I would pay you to work on my toys for sure!
I’ve had a shop doing this in the past. If I can make a living on RUclips I’ll stick to not having customers
Sweet video Dave! Love all the tech advice and getting to walk through some of the steps in the process. I know the work a video like this takes is a lot but you’re nailing it, perfect mixture of production but not over produced 👍🏼
Thanks . Good feedback
You had me at “Whatever. It’s better than walking” haha
I need to get back to work on that thing
I miss DED , Loved that show
It was a good time
Dude I almost bought a Ford 9in that was out of a early bronco, but I'm staying with the dana44 60in width but I like how that 9in looks in the jeep...✌🏻🧜♀️😎💯
Right on
Jeep looks great with the new 4 link.
Thanks. It helped out the ride a lot
Nicely done Dave, sorry I haven't commented for a bit been traveling where no Wifi lives!!
Sounds like a nice place to be
when time allows, id love to see you add part info to the comments. Maybe a video on information about bags and how to choose the right airbags for your project
Yep I’ll be posting more and more
Mockup links with angle iron such a great idea! I'm sure a lot of people will use that from your sharing. Your airbag mockup was also extremely useful. Awesome video!!!
Thanks, glad you got some useful info out of it
@The Dirthead Shed its that type of knowledge that can't be bought , hand down tricks of the trade, great vid keep them coming
So awesome!
Thank you
Great build! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Jeep is looking great. I'm kind of surprised you didn't check the suspension with articulation. I imagine you are gonna flex the thing out eventually. I'll just wait for the next video.. . .
Oh I check plenty. It just didn’t make the cut
super rad man. say happy birthday to fred for me please
Thank you
God damned excellent vid! This is all the stuff I wanted to see on DED! A solid hour of building with any wheeling separate 😎😎
Right on. Glad you dig
Great episode, learned alot!
Nice. Thank you
Awesome work
Thanks again!
Thanks for the inspiration Dave!
No problem. Go work on your stuff
This was great. Going to rewatch and take notes. Thanks again for sharing the knowledge!
Thanks for watching. Hope it helps
Another great show!
Thank you
Thank you for putting out awesome content. The videos are so in depth its amazing, this is my new favortie rig!
It’s a good one. Need to spiff it up a little for summer
Great job !!
Thank you
Great video Dave, I was hoping you would show a photo of the bearing retainer that came with your rear disc brake kit because whoever put my rear axle together used the wrong retainer. Currie used to use a spacer to hold the seal in tight to the bearing , but apparently now they have a lip on the retainer that holds the seal in and as you found out, the lip has to go towards the seal to compensate for a thicker disc brake bracket. Hope you had a great party for Fred!
Yep! Same thing
Sick as always. Love watching your projects!
Thanks. It’s fun thrashing on these things
Warms my heart! Haha nice job dude that’s amazing.
Thank you
I love that you are actually teaching me while entertaining!
Right on. Thanks for watching

Id love to put this setup on my ol cj7 . I've been watching intently . your progress on your yj and am very impressed.
If I win the lottery I will be shipping my jeep to you .
It does work pretty well!

Much appreciated

Thank you
I Like Jeeps. Love the content, keep it coming!!
Will do: thanks for watching
Great episode!
Thank you
Dude, badass work on knocking out a trick 4 link on bags with no time!!! Mercury next? ;)
Mercury soon. Nissan first
I got a couple of those light bar type rechargeable led headlights with the hand wave action for like 20$ and put Velcro on my welding helmet. The light is sooooooo awesome. Improves my welding a ton, especially in not so well lit areas.
Good idea. I have one of those lights
@@thedirtheadshed I ended up crazy gluing the Velcro on after it came off a couple times but well worth it.
This jeep is so rad! Definitely one of my favorite projects you've done.
Thanks!
You make fab work look easy
It’s all about solving problems quickly
Awesome video as usual, always a pleasure to see your fabrication skills at work. Thanks for the content.
Thanks for watching
Dude, you are ridiculously talented! Great video, and great job!
Thank you. Hope you enjoyed the video
Men, this is good content. Keep the hard work
Thank you. I’m pushing
Super awesome build. Happy birthday Fred!
Thank you
Good video, inspiration for the 4 link I want on my wj.
Nice. Get after it
You are freakin AWESOME!!!! I love the way you make and build things and think it all through.
I try to. I hate doing stuff twice
Great job! This was a fun one to watch. Keep up the good work!
Glad you liked it
Awesome 👍👍 happy birthday Fred

I never cease to be amazed by the quality fab work 👍😲
Thanks!
No more POGO STICK!! Hell yea brother. This was your best video yet. Thank you.
Thank you!
good stuff Dave! more more more. This video was awesome. Appreciate how you bring us along for the process.
Thanks for watching. It’s a lot of work
Nice episode showing the ideas in your head to reality.
Thanks. Nothing like a crazy deadline to get things done
This is so fun to watch! Love the tech content and can’t wait to see some wheeling footage in the desert.
Working on that. Thanks
That Jeep is looking awesome. I love my yj.
It is a good ol jeep
The YJ is awesome keep up the amazing builds!
Thank you
Awesome 4 link tutorial. I got a lot out of this.
Right on.
What a marathon fab day! Sweet video Dave!
That was a lot!! Stoked I got that far
Great work on the 4 link. This is real world of 4 wheeling, and not parking lot posers. This is something i wold like to do with my 95 wrangler. Looks like it has great road manners as far as driveability. Keep up the good work.
Thank you. It does really drive well down the road
Thanks for showing your process. You've defiantly put your time in to be able to eyeball so much of that. Sick build!
Thank you. I have put a lot of time in in order to get this stuff done quickly
Looks like all that work was well worth it so far 🦅🇺🇸💪😁👍 hope you guys have tons of fun
It’s a good improvement
Happy Birthday Fred.
Thanks. From Fred
Super RAD!! Thanks for all work and sharing it!! Makes me wanna get dirty.
Nice! Get out and make it happen
Another awesome video on upgrading your jeep. Will definitely watch you wheeling it ! 👍🏽😎
Thanks
Awesome project those welds looked fantastic
Thank you
Excellent video. I really want to airbag and 4 link my 68 bronco so this is inspirational. Thank you
Thanks for watching. Good luck
I love the road trips, Pacific NW, through snowy mountains, Vegas and the desert. Have fun out there!
It’s a huge change! I love it
So cool! 🤘😀🇨🇦
Thanks. Hope you liked
please please please do a technical video about airbags on crawlers!!!! it's so cool, i would love to know how to do it myself on my truck and would love to know why more people don't do them
I’ll keep posting. All my rigs are in bags so there’s no way not to
I really love that you say your logic behind your decisions on your fabwork, including the bag stuff. Feel like I learn quite a bit from your videos. looking forward to your wheeling video.
Thanks! I’ve got to get some trails done this next couple days
Hay Dave just saw you at the gambler last week at the gambler 500 I've always abmyer the work you do
i love these videos. appreciate watching guys fabricate brackets and such with cardboard, sharpies, and while, yes, youre using a plasma cutter, this could be easily done with a jig saw, grinder, or other more rudimentary tools that we all have in our garages. nice work!
Yep! Make the most of what you have
Super interesting Dave!!! Love seeing the four link setup.
Glad you liked it!
Amazing work as always Dave!! You're rocking the content!! Keep it up!!
Thanks! I’m trying
