  • Louis ViTen , My 2008 Ford F-250 made it through Ultimate Adventure 2023! But not without a few bent, broken, or worn out parts. On this episode I pull it back into the Dirthead Shed to take care of a few items before hitting the road again. This time it's a 1200 mile road trip to Las Vegas for it to appear in the Real Truck booth at Sema Fest. Follow along as I address the rear gear set noises, bent shocks, and damaged steering.

    Great build and rebuild Dave 👍 Although the real Ultimate Adventure is only using the 1 minute Permatex "The Right Stuff" gasket maker for any and all sealing jobs! 😂 (I think I've scraped off as much of the 1 minute as I've successfully installed before it started setting up... Usually because instead of wasting half an hour to go buy a tube of 90 minute that either set up or I ran out of, I'll spend half a day wasting all my 1 minute, then go buy some 90 minute anyway, so that way when I REALLY need the 1 minute I only have the 90, which may be no good by that point because I usually lose the cap or don't plug the tubes... Now just reverse those two products and that's basically how I do every project... )🤔🤣👍

      @@thedirtheadshed precisely 😄 BTW It would definitely be fun to watch you go take a visiting/working/wheeling vacation with Grindhard, Matt's Offroad, and FabRats too! Paul from FabRats has mentioned he wishes he had your magic metal brain in several vids relating to suspension setups, doing a 4x4 link setup on bags, or just about having certain fab work look and work great on the first try 🤣👍He and his wife were big DED fans, and I think he mentioned either getting to finally meet or talk to you at some point after all those various comments he always made while building awesome junk. Out of all the somewhat well known 4x4/build channels I'd say he and his wife/camera operator/finance department head would appreciate some kind of week long crossover build like few others would! Ya know since you have so much free time.. and aren't behind on every single youtube and life related activity like most other small team or one man band content creators! 😉 Thanks for all the hard work and awesome content Dave 👍 (Paul also owns a homemade death trap lathe that might be worth the drive just to see... Maybe just stay atleast 20 feet away... Behind a vehicle or toolbox if available anytime it's spinning and use maximum safety squints 🫣)

    Dave, love watching your fab work & builds over the years.
    An observation from the bleachers….
    If you experience some twist in your rear control arms while out wheeling, consider this design change. An enclosed shape (4-sided square, rectangle, or tube) resists twist better than an open channel (3-sided) of equivalent wall thickness. Think twisty OE stamped front & rear control arms. If you were to mount the shock above the CA using heavy-duty tabs on each side of the box, you’d have a link much more resistant to twist. Twisting may have been why the original shock bent.
    Think Pre-Runners & SCORE race trucks.

    • @thedirtheadshed
      @thedirtheadshed  11 месяцев назад

      It’s not the metal that is twisting. I have Jonny joint style rode ends front and rear. I just need to make some wobble stoppers for the frame side rod end.

    Any chance you could triangulate the rear arms, lose the rear pan hard, and use the geometry to center the axle keeping the shocks from bending and also giving more flex

    • @thedirtheadshed
      @thedirtheadshed  10 месяцев назад +1

      The amount of flex isn’t limited by having a panhard bar. Shock eyelets bent because the link has more movement than the heim in the shock. It needs wobble stoppers on the frame side to stop that from happening

    • @EdirtySicks
      @EdirtySicks 10 месяцев назад

      @@thedirtheadshed thinking about it again - would the tire contact the inner fender before the panhard frame mount contacts the axle - or axle side mount contacts the frame?
      I have an OTA setup on my jeep I built from JKS axle side and a RC frame side mount and I think the tire stuffs first. And the shock definitely limits the down travel… this reminds me that I need air bumps.

    I am looking forward to getting the Accutune Fox coilovers I have on my project. I think what Accutune offers is awesome. For the same price as other retailers they will re-valve your shock to suit your application, instead of using off the shelf valving. The valving really should be tuned based on weight and spring rate and Accutune basically does that for free. They let you select different ride characteristics so you can have a comfortable ride, or a ride more tailored for performance.
    Dave, have you ever tried balance beads in big tires like this? My tire guy couldn't get my 37's balanced with weights so he put beads in them. My truck isn't ready yet so I have no idea if they will work.

    • @thedirtheadshed
