The build on the Mustang is awesome! It takes a craftsman to look at something and say "yeah, I know, but what if I...." This episode took me back to 1987 when I did a 2400-mile road trip in a worn out 67 chevy pickup that severely need a tune up, had bad suspension, questionable brakes and a K Mart cassette deck with one working speaker, and every earthly possession I had. I had no business taking that trip in that truck.....but it was one of the best road trips I ever taken. Just me and the possibility of complete failure, lol. Rock on, buddy!
As someone who isnt a fabricator, but needs to learn, the explanations on metal and where to focus heat on welds and all that is absolutely what sets you apart on these build videos. Keep on it man
This build just makes me smile. It may end up being the best looking Mustang II build, yet, particularly for a non-Cobra model. There aren't many to choose from, but who's counting.
Thank you for building the best worst Mustang ever! This has been a really fun build to enjoy watching and not take too seriously. The results are great.
They can be built to be pretty cool little cars, I'm building a 78 cobra on my channel if anyone cares to take a look and subscribe, trying to get to 500 subscribers so I can enter the no name nationals next year.
Great episode just enough filming to keep it interesting yet not monotonous. The edit was really good too. Thanks for sharing your talents and adventures!!!
It is an amazing story, the Mustang from Jim's junkyard in Washington state to Tucson AZ, then the Pacific Ocean. A car revived from the scrap pile to a spunky performer. Congrats
Just came across your channel. It's great to see a fellow fabricator that mig welds his creations and doesn't think that every little piece has to be tig welded. Great job on the rear end set up. I used to own a 76 Cobra 11 Mustang with the 302 and 4spd. Always regretted selling that little car. I will be subscribing.
Very few like the Mustang II. I built one. A 74 with a 302. It was a giant with the landau top I hated but I was 18 and my pops traded a hunting rifle for it and 100 bucks for the scope lol. So I get it after I build 2 cars for my dad to sell when his business was slow and his guys had nothing to do in shipping in his aircraft parts biz. So I find the motor is locked up. Tear it down and find the valve seals had turned to plastic and crumbled apart then jammed the oil pump gears and it snapped the drive shaft off the distributor. So I rebuild it pulling favors and haggling for used or new performance parts. Ported the heads the intake. My buddies dad walked me through building up the trans and found a decent used convertor for it. The outside sucked, it was a faded pea soup green. So I stripped it and the landau top off. Etch primed it sealed it and painted the outside the underwood (not inner fenders) and door jams white. Put it together and pops found a nice set if 14 inch (replaced the 13 on it) craters and a used set of sticky Falkens for it. Take it out and it's pretty fast for what it is. Dad takes it on Sunday to go to a friend's place with my butch stepmother. Next week pop says it's real nice you did great my friend even offered 5500 bucks for it. I said not for sale he agreed. He even took it to an interior shop and had a headliner and a few bad spots repaired. I thought cool. NOPE! Pops decides it's too nice to take to Dallas for school I need an economy car and gave me a damn dodge omni. He moved my stepmonsters car over and put it in the garage. I was so pissed I traded in the omni on a small truck, went home and packed my shit and moved in with my girlfriend and didn't talk to him for over 5 years. He ended up selling it to his buddy when stepmonster wanted to be able to Parke her car and open every door in the 2 car garage. I was so pissed I never forgave him. I won a few street races to guys laughing at that car. It was one of the best running 302 I have ever driven and I had no idea cam.profile. I knew it was a small block Ford anda crane solid lift. It had no box. So as an 18 year old a 50 dollar brand new cam was great.
That is an amazing rear suspension set up sir. I know you've been super busy with 49 different simultaneous builds but let's talk about that shop, Messy as I've seen it - it literally looks like three hand grenades all went off at the same time HAHAHA. I love your content Dave, keep it up!!
Agreed. My shop looks about the same. I am building KEI trucks with tracks with Jeep bumpers along with keeping my friends rock drilling equipment and other customers vehicles, while my Chevy's 38's are dry rotting away 😢
We just got back last week from a family vacation. We went from Grand Canyon, to monument valley, to Moab Arches and Canyonland, to Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, Zion, antelope canyon. It was an AMAZING trip!
Super nice. Thanks for taking us along your journey. In 86, in high school, I had a 72 Nova RS, my buddy had a 69 Mustang, and another buddy had a Cobra like yours with a V8. We would race all over those back roads.
That is a cool car now! Rear independent suspension would've almost been easier! If you need a hand cleaning that shop up, I'd gladly come down😊 keep up the good work but don't feel you need to put aside family time for us viewers!
I'm sure he has. I think it's just something we all do when we're by ourselves doing the tasks and have no music playing. Sadly RUclips makes it worse it sucks about copyright crap.
I do all the time. I will never stop watching your show though. I hope to see you on more vice grip garage. That was an amazing episode. I wish you would be on a roadkill garage. I think it would be great.
This thing is so sick. Love the low. I can almost see some 60s Mustang bumpers modded to fit and roll pans under to give it a vintage-y feel. Thank you for the videos Dave!
I love the fact that anyone is doing anything with a Mustang II. Yeah, compared to what came before and after it, they were pretty bad, but when taken in with the context of their time, they're likely the reason that there still is a Mustang at all. I always did like them, and wanted a v6, 4 speed hatchback. Maybe one day.
That's the sickest thumbnail ever, I couldn't click on it fast enough. I was like wow I don't even know what brand of car that is and that never happens to a gearhead like me. GG

Car turned out awesome Dave. What a transformation. I really want to bag a old car and with each of your videos I feel a little more confident. Thank you
13:40 parallels bushings or canted bushings one removes the need of a sprung sway bar tho in doing so turns the triangulated links into torsion bars that act partly as a sway bar thus needing to be welded using SAE graded spring axle type bar not standardized mild steel tubing.
Amazing job Dave. So glad you did the reverse 4-link. I really wanted to see that happen and it did! It turned out great and then we got to see it drive a lot of miles. Shout out to Vern, you guys should do some stuff together. He has built some awesome stuff through the years. I really enjoyed his mag stuff back in the day.
I just did a trip from cda to moab and back and you’re not kidding…. Utah is legit. I wish I had more time off from work I wanted to just cruise my Jeep all over the state. Awesome build and road trip video, thanks for taking us along!
As your attorney I say "fantastic work, great footage, epic journey, now go get some rest". I can't wait to see the rear end / bumper, I guessing funny car style???
Hey man instead of WD-40 on your fab table to prevent splatter take your torch and soot it with a no oxygen flame. It works great man with no oily mess later.
@@thedirtheadshed it works really well. You drove right through my home town of Kanab. I’m glad you like the area. If ya ever get in a bind while your here I’d be happy to help ya out.

I figured it would be kind of neat when you were done with it, but I'm not at all a fan of Mustang IIs, however, you've reminded me everything is cooler once slammed and modded. lol Air Lift Solenoids are my favorite, but good manual valves are definitely the most reliable and simple setup.
