The amount of thought and engineering put into this vehicle is amazing. Think about the timing of the radio cover. If it slaps down its cheap. If it takes to long it’s cheap. Just the right amount of time to feed your opulence.
Audi gets this better than BMW does, ironically. I had a 2012 A7 Prestige and they used a lot of the same tricks on a budget but it really elevated the car: metal caps on the plastic switches so you were always touching metal, everything was soft-close and delayed to open slowly, subtle lighting in good places, slow fade in on the electronic displays, little light shows and needle dances when you start and stop. Very clever and a better job than BMW does with even the high end 5 and 7 series.

Yes, this is the "entry level" Rolls-Royce and it's based on the BMW 7 Series, but even if you spec a long wheelbase 7 Series with the most powerful V12 engine and pick literally every option, you'll still be about $100,000 away from the base price of a Ghost.
@@23gatesy Rolls Royce doesn’t exist by themselves. They are apart of The BMW Group. BMW saved the brand when they bought them out. Sales were terrible until BMW introduced the Ghost, Wraith, Dawn, and Cullinan.

My dad is thinking about one of these. Once he heard about the BMW underpinnings, he became nervous. Stepping from Lincoln Town Car's bulletproof reliability to BMW doesn't automatically equate to an upgrade; but he has been reassured from multiple reliable sources that BMW and Ghost are not the same. Now if he could only get my mom to release the purse strings....
Youve explained the power reserve guage in reverse. At idle it says 100 because you have 100% available remaining. The faster you go the "lower" it goes on the guage so the needle actually shows you what's in reserve. Not what you're using as doug explained it.
Working down in Naples, FL I see these around town with some commonness. They definitely bring that Rolls prominence that is to be expected albelit less so than the Phantom as Doug pointed out. Still really big sedans that turn heads but the blend in slightly more than Phantoms. Still awesome, love the vid and love the rep for the 76ers. I moved to Florida from right outside Philly so naturally Philly sports feel like home.
People who are quick to point out that a “Rolls Royce Ghost is just a BMW 7-Series in a frock” were so curiously silent about Rolls Royces being “just a Bentley in a frock” for the decades that Rolls Royces were actually Bentleys in frocks.
Other way around. Bentley was RR with a turbo and no SOE. But both used GM designed engines and transmissions, Citroen mineral oil suspension and braking systems, etc.

People who say "Oh, this is just a *blank car name* underneath" are some of the absolute worst 😅 "Oh, the Ghost is just a 7 Series", "Oh, the Supra is just a Z4" do they even know how much tuning and calibration can change a car? 🧐 By the way, I think the RR Ghost is the RR to go for undoubtedly! 🧐❤️
You know in both cases people care for different reasons: "It's a 7 series underneath, so it is only unreliable and expensive to maintain but not the absolute technological garbage from GB." VS "It's a Z4 underneath, so it has nothing to do with one of the most reliable japanese car manufacturers and it should not be named like the most iconic car of that brand (and if you are no billionaire you shouldn't own one older than 5 years)."
@@Mk1Male Many insurances or car clubs have statistics about breakdowns, look it up for yourself. If you want you can believe reliable cars are coming from the country you where born in. This is quite a review of a very nice luxury car. I did notice that when the engine hood was opened there were a few caps that looked a lot like caps on my 2011 BMW 328i. The oil cap on this car has the same shape as an oil cap on the BMW, but is labeled with RR for Rolls Royce. The windshield washer fluid cap is the same as BMW. Also what looks like a coolant expansion tank cap looks the same as the cap on the BMW. So unless a person is looking under the hood of the car they would not see any thing from BMW.
@@marciliojunior4919 well, everyone has a personal opinion, I definitely see where you’re coming from, the previous phantom definitely has a strong presence.
If you buy an older one..also buy yourself a garage (do all the work yourself ) or take out a mortgage !! In UK, new set of spark plugs done by an authorised dealer will set you back 800 pounds (as noted on another Uk car channel)
Probably not to maintain, but when I lived in England I walked into a Bentley/RR service shop, they had like 15 cars for sale surprisingly cheap. There was a RR silver spirit II from 87 costing 11000£ , i couldn't believe it myself. I asked the manager to let me in and fell in love with the thing.
You had the power reserve explanation backwards.. it's 100% moving slow or idle, going towards 0 the more you smash the gas.. if you are flooring it up a steep hill, you would have less reserve because you'd be using most of it already.
Only in a Rolls-Royce can you get an older 2014 model that's looks like it has a competitive edge even against today's models, this is just gorgeous‼️✨️✨️
I love that even a Genesis G90 these days has almost everything you see here including heated and cooled rear memory seats and great materials all around - the difference is they're standard on the top trim at around 1/5 of the price of this car...That being said, if you want leather all the way at the Bottom of your doors and beautiful materials even Under your seat, you cough up the half a million and get a Rolls Royce lol. That's the kind of detail you're paying for.
Can gaurentee that a Genosis does not have the same level of detail a Rolls has. The amount of sound deadening that goes into a rolls is in itself a feat of engineering.
@Doug Demuro: Thank you for this one. I love RR Phantoms and Ghosts big time. As a 6'3" 222lbs guy these vehicles are designed comfortably for us big guys.
In a way, the umbrellas in the front make more sense since you want the driver to be holding the umbrella before he opens the back door. If you put it in the back there is a greater chance for the rain to wet the back seat passengers because the driver has to open the umbrella.
My 2015 S 550 has the same reclining bench seat ,also you can programm 3 different setting ,you can move the passenger seat from the rear, you can put heat and cold on to the same time what is just stupid to do. You have access to the fridge when you pull the armrest forward ,the climate setting in the Ghost is terrible compare to the S-class otherwise that car cost used as much as my car new so it should be better
Beautiful coach. Doug made his main point at 7:00 min- This is a 400k car, which is accessible on the used market at 100k. I love that. Would buy it in a minute.
with the engine, chassis and infotainment all coming from BMW I agree it's incredibly unfair to say it's "just" a 7 series, but it's also not way closer to a Phantom than a 7 series either. I think the most fair way to put it is "An incredibly opulent custom 7 series with a coach built body & interior" similar to what Touring coachbuilders does making new masterpieces based on existing cars.

100k is way more affordable than a new one. Lots of people have 100k cars way way more people than those who have 300k+ cars which is still tons of people even tho the so called middle and lower middle are struggling. Not everyone is struggling. But keep in mind u are getting a car that is 12 years old as opposed to 100k for a brand new car so that’s a big difference. But it is attainable to many more people now, is smart for them? No. But for around 2k a month finance lots of people can afford that. If u make 100k a year u can swing it but u can not afford things to go wrong with it

Yes, this is the "entry level" Rolls-Royce and it's based on the BMW 7 Series, but even if you spec a long wheelbase 7 Series with the most powerful V12 engine and pick literally every option, you'll still be about $100,000 away from the base price of a Ghost.

Timeless? It looks like a truck. Timeless is the RR of the early 1960s.
The BMW Group designed this car, so hats off to them.
@@ajlee6933 if you watch the video.. rolls royce designed it themselves using a modified bmw platform.
@@23gatesy Rolls Royce doesn’t exist by themselves. They are apart of The BMW Group. BMW saved the brand when they bought them out. Sales were terrible until BMW introduced the Ghost, Wraith, Dawn, and Cullinan.
@@ajlee6933 I'm aware of that. Lots of car companies are owned by parent companies but Rolls still make their own cars in England where they originated.
aside from reviewing old quirky cars, my second favorite doug reviews are these super luxury cars, just to see what kinda stuff those money can buy you on 4 wheels
Now if he could only get my mom to release the purse strings....
keep the Lincoln town car I would choose one of those over a Rolls Royce any day
Youve explained the power reserve guage in reverse. At idle it says 100 because you have 100% available remaining. The faster you go the "lower" it goes on the guage so the needle actually shows you what's in reserve. Not what you're using as doug

I feel this is the same Guage as the BMW fuel economy one just relabeled a power reserve.

Sometimes, the "lesser" luxury cars of a brand, are actually the best ones. I'd get a BMW 5 Series over a 7 Series, and an Audi A6 over an A8.
im curious as to your reasoning for that. value for money?
Rolls Royce doesn't have any "lesser" cars, they're all as high-end as it gets.

Prices for these are very much higher in Australia than in the US by the look of things, the average price for a Ghost in Australia as of today 3rd September 2022 is $350.00 Aus upwards
I always thought the Phantom was for being driven in, and the Ghost was for the Owner/Operator. Definitely more daily driver friendly I would think.
@Spike16 I mean, if I had that kind of money I’d probably buy a dawn. And you should tell that to all the people that bought cullinans when they came out 🤷♂️
@Spike16 the Ghost has more features than the phantom. If you bought a phantom to drive then you're just paying extra to have an extra couple of feet behind you.

People who say "Oh, this is just a *blank car name* underneath" are some of the absolute worst 😅 "Oh, the Ghost is just a 7 Series", "Oh, the Supra is just a Z4" do they even know how much tuning and calibration can change a car? 🧐
By the way, I think the RR Ghost is the RR to go for undoubtedly! 🧐❤️
You know in both cases people care for different reasons:
"It's a 7 series underneath, so it is only unreliable and expensive to maintain but not the absolute technological garbage from GB."
VS
"It's a Z4 underneath, so it has nothing to do with one of the most reliable japanese car manufacturers and it should not be named like the most iconic car of that brand (and if you are no billionaire you shouldn't own one older than 5 years)."

If you buy an older one..also buy yourself a garage (do all the work yourself ) or take out a mortgage !!
In UK, new set of spark plugs done by an authorised dealer will set you back 800 pounds (as noted on another Uk car channel)
"Rolls Royce" and "Affordable" can never be in the same sentence. 🤣🤣
They're very reliable unless you drive them like a tank
Probably not to maintain, but when I lived in England I walked into a Bentley/RR service shop, they had like 15 cars for sale surprisingly cheap. There was a RR silver spirit II from 87 costing 11000£ , i couldn't believe it myself. I asked the manager to let me in and fell in love with the thing.
Yeah affordable if your Hoovie or Doug DeMuro
You had the power reserve explanation backwards.. it's 100% moving slow or idle, going towards 0 the more you smash the gas.. if you are flooring it up a steep hill, you would have less reserve because you'd be using most of it already.

15:40 the casual blackwood in the back
Only in a Rolls-Royce can you get an older 2014 model that's looks like it has a competitive edge even against today's models, this is just gorgeous‼️✨️✨️
Right and to be fair we are comparing a brand new luxury car to an ultra luxury car from a decade ago.
A base ghost doesn't have heated seats 💀
Wow that hidden compartment in the back is perfect for a small baggy
@Doug Demuro: Thank you for this one. I love RR Phantoms and Ghosts big time. As a 6'3" 222lbs guy these vehicles are designed comfortably for us big guys.
"If you can't afford the real thing."
I can't imagine RR making a substandard vehicle under their badge.
I see the Phantom be a car to be driven in and the Ghost as the daily driver.
the real thing stopped being made when bmw took over
In a way, the umbrellas in the front make more sense since you want the driver to be holding the umbrella before he opens the back door.
The whole point of the ornament is to have it stand proud while parked. Theft should never be a concern since whoever steals it will lose their hand.
Champagne FLUTES Doug, Flutes
As a fellow plebeian I rely on Doug for my life experience 😂
You can see just from the video how relaxed Doug is while driving the Rolls
If ever in such a position, I wonder if I would rather have an older Phantom, or a newer Ghost at equal price.
I think that would come down to do you want to drive it or, be driven.
The guy who commissioned the trim options for this unit has very good taste.
Beautiful coach. Doug made his main point at 7:00 min- This is a 400k car, which is accessible on the used market at 100k. I love that. Would buy it in a minute.
"how much to add an optional luxury feature?" "
Rolls Royce: "Yes."
I keep waiting for Rolls to start pricing their cars in the same way that they used to rate their engine horsepower... "Sufficient".
Wow, Doug reviewed a non top-of-the line luxury car. Kudos!
with the engine, chassis and infotainment all coming from BMW I agree it's incredibly unfair to say it's "just" a 7 series, but it's also not way closer to a Phantom than a 7 series either. I think the most fair way to put it is "An incredibly opulent custom 7 series with a coach built body & interior" similar to what Touring coachbuilders does making new masterpieces based on existing cars.
End of the line for Luxury. Nothing like it. What a car! The Ghost is the best luxury driver in their line.
And to think, all that wood trim is hand made. Truly spectacular.

Doug this is insulting "Affordable" people can barely afford to get by as it is.
This is still better than the time he called a Ferrari Scaglietti affordable
I don't get why people are pissed. It is affordable for a royce.
Work hard, stop making excuses and you might be able to afford a Rolls-Royce someday.
If u make 100k a year u can swing it but u can not afford things to go wrong with it
Which is more reliable? The BMW V12 or the VW W12?
Forget about the Beemer, Landcruiser etc on carbids .... there was a Honda Beat listed ... for just 6100$!
"The people who say the Ghost is a 7 Series, have never been in a Ghost" well, sound more like the people who've never been in a 7 neither.
