People listen to music regardless of how old it is..... So why would you ask if people are still listening to a song that isn't even that old...? Just makes no sense
I never ever sit through the end credits once a movie ends but while waiting for people to leave the theatre this song came on and I was hooked and was held hostage in my seat by this amazing song.
There is no musician that could produce a better soundtrack for that particular movie. Not only is the music beautiful... But it is very atmospheric for the trilogy.
When I watched the Hobbit.. in the end of the movie the lights didn't turn on until this song ended and everyone stayed at their seats to listen to this song. It's so amazing *-*
It's really funny because I watched it tonight and the lights turned on a second after the last scene faded out and I bitched about it for fifteen minutes - and my friend thought I was nuts. After that I went directly home, listened to this song in peace and after that started reading these comments - and this was the first one I saw. Thank you so much for understanding. Seriously, I would go back and pay triple to have your experience.
I can‘t remember where was his interview about how he wrote the song for the movie Desolation of Smaug but i do remember Peter Jackson said that he shown all the scenes of smaug to Ed Sheeran and after that Ed Sheeran wrote the song for that movie . Now, that‘s 100% rare talent.
I love how these artists write songs for movies instead of the movie's musical directors looking for an appropriate song for the movie. You know the song "Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls? The band had to watch the movie first (City of Angels) before they came up with the OST.
If a song can cure your depression then you didn't have depression. Songs can only change your mood temporarily, can't physically cure a problem that has to do with lack of certain chemicals in your brain

‘the hobbit’ trilogy is one of my comfort movie series. it was wonderfully done and has gotten me through a tough time right now. And i listen to this so on repeat for at least and hour at least once a week. this song perfectly explains how much the dwarves are willing to risk to take back their home.
i relate to this so much i watched "the hobbit" before i have finished the book and i was so amazed by the universe that tolkien created.. the characters, the history, the message behind the history.. everything is so well created... even though i haven't finished LOTR's books i must say that LOTR and The Hobbit are now an important part of my life
at the ending credits this song came on for the hobbit. I was like "this song is so good" "wait this artist sounds familiar" "of course, because it's ed sheeran" I am blown away at how amazing this song is!
I just heard this song live in Sofia. I never expected him to sing it as it wasn’t in any of this tour’s setlists and I had no hope… It’s my favorite song of his and I immediately started bawling. Thank you Ed!!!
I think J.R.R. Tolkien would be really proud with everything what was/is being done with his novels by Peter Jackson, Warner Bros., actors and everyone else who participated in creation of these masterful movies
***** I think the same, he would probably hate the fact that Disney is involved in the Hobbit too, one addition I think he would actually like is the elves in Helm's Deep, taking away Haldir's death of course
zethgb It was very action packed but it did have those moments. The moments where it didn't get your heart racing but touched it and made you feel very in touch with the characters emotionally. Also while it started of as a story for his children, like all of his stories did, they were touched by the more difficult and horrifying aspects of his life. The marshes for instance in Lord of the rings was inspired by his time in the trenches as a soldier.
@@hugoakerlund5114 it really wasn't. Acting was better, graphics were better. The book had been given more depth in the hobbit movies. But thats your opinion. Don't have to get pressed when someone differs
Oh, misty eye of the mountain below Keep careful watch of my brothers' souls And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke Keep watching over Durin's sons … If this is to end in fire Then we should all burn together Watch the flames climb high into the night Calling out father, oh, stand by and we will Watch the flames burn on and on The mountain side … And if we should die tonight We should all die together Raise a glass of wine for the last time Calling out father, oh, prepare as we will Watch the flames burn on and on The mountain side … Desolation comes upon the sky … Now I see fire Inside the mountain I see fire Burning the trees And I see fire Hollowing souls I see fire Blood in the breeze And I hope that you'll remember me … Oh, should my people fall in Surely I'll do the same Confined in mountain holes, we got too close to the flame Calling out father, oh, hold fast and we will Watch the flames burn on and on The mountain side … Desolation comes upon the sky … Now I see fire Inside the mountains I see fire Burning the trees And I see fire Hollowing souls I see fire Blood in the breeze And I hope that you remember me … And if the night is burning, I will cover my eyes For if the dark returns then, my brothers will die And as the sky's falling down, it crashed into this lonely town And with that shadow upon the ground, I hear my people screaming out … And I see fire Inside the mountains I see fire Burning the trees I see fire Hollowing souls I see fire Blood in the breeze … I see fire Oh, you know I saw a city burning out (fire) And I see fire Feel the heat upon my skin (fire) And I see fire Uh (fire) And I see fire burn on and on the mountain side
I remember listening to this during the peak of the Pandemic while there was a huge wildfire in California that lasted weeks, with the smell of smoke in the air, amber colored skies, it was beautiful hearing this ☺️
Everytime I listen to this I’m instantly transported to Middle Earth and immersed in the struggles and triumphs of one of the most fantastical magical journeys ever undertaken by any band of brothers real or imaginary and this is to me a truly special experience. Thank you Ed & all your collaborators on this epic rendition.

its crazy how he really nailed the vibe of the song…i always get emotional about the hobbit whenever i hear this cus the lyrics he used perfectly fits the series
With that cliffhanger ending, this was a great song to send our thoughts wild after the movie. Hopefully they'll coordinate another song with Ed for the third movie. The tone was also so perfect for it to play after the movie ends.

***** Considering about 90% of entertainment comes from the USA, most songs released are American... This isn't a bad thing I must add, I just think the other guy was being a bit off a tit :)
Lynxchillin08 "90% of the entertainment comes from the USA" Think about that statement for a minute. Do you have any idea how much entertainment is put out around the world that does not come from the US? 90% of the entertainment that YOU watch may come from the USA, but to say that the rest of the world only produces 10% of that entertainment is ignorant.

it’s incredible how much of a music buildup you can make with literally 3 instruments and vocal layering! mosts artists use a whole ass orchestra for only the climax of the song!
2017 and I'm still in love with this song!! btw my music teacher played this in lesson bc we were learning about the "elements of music" she is now my fav teacher!!

Just fyi a couple of your lyrics are wrong: it's _calling out father, oh_ and I'm p sure it's: _the flames burn auburn on the mountain side high_ (could be "hey" but it doesn't sound like it so) Just for future reference!
@@Shivanshkotiyal that's probably the fault of spotify's lyric source (probably google/lyricfind or smth). if you listen, Ed sings _father, oh_ and if you pause it around 3:16 in the video, you can see the lyrics on screen for one verse, and it *says* _father_ there. plus rope makes no sense in the context. the song is about a dragon burning down a mountain; what's the rope for?
This is such an amazing piece of art. This song, the movie... I went to watch it twice and I just CAN'T stop thinking about it. I feel as if I can't continue on with my life normally, I just have the constant urge to watch the movie over and over and over... Is this normal?

u not alone and im Crying again firsit time when i sat in front of the Imax screen which like a large picture scroll,and...and i watched the Dragon Smaug unfolding its huge wings and fly to the sky.the sang rang out,on and on.i cant control myself and cry out
You are not the only one who had to cry, I was in the car with my parents and little brother and sister, and this song came on the radio, and I was hiding my face under a blanket to hide the fact that I was crying like a baby.
Apparently he just walked in there and about 15 mins later, had come up with this song. Whatever anyone thinks of Ed and his music, that is in an incredible talent.
Corey Taylor, Brent Smith, Myles Kennedy, Jason Lancaster, Doyle Perez, James Veck-Gilodi, Dave Ghrol... all have a better voice imo. I just really like the riff xD I think if he hadn't had so much put onto his voice on this it would of made it so much better. Sounds like producers have gone ham on his voice....
James Lowndes i inspire creativity and freedom to like whatever you want, but james go listen to Corey Taylor, Brent Smith, Myles Kennedy, Jason Lancaster, Doyle Perez, James Veck-Gilodi, Dave Ghrol if Ed does not satisfy your music wants like he does mine.
Ray James He just made a comment saying others singers because apparently you don't know that many. You should give them a try maybe you'll be surprised. And is obvious this recording was mixed by producers, because his voice was clearly modified. That doesn't mean we don't like the music or don't like Ed Sheeran
1 - i give no fucks 2 - no idea who grohl goal or groal is 3 - can i get a like for all the fucking humans who like to start comment arguments over nothing?
Here I am sitting in front of the tv managed to catch the ending and immediately googled the name of the song. Literally just discovered this. 20230821
"My skin is tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath...DEATH. I AM the King under the mountain!"-Smaug the Golden Left out that last part :P
roknii2 True, it didn't match the normal theatrical music, but it wasn't really meant for that. The song is just sort of a retelling of what we saw/read.
and you can do it perfectly fine making a song that matches with the tolkien world. They just wanted to make money, atract people and sell sell sell $$$$$$$$$
This is my favorite song too!! Fits the movie perfectly and is just an all around amazing awesome song It gave me chills too when I just listened to it again
I will never understand how this didn’t even get at least nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars.

It was not a hollywood production, its considered an independent film. Even by Jackson myself, he says so in the commentary series.

Lyrics
Oh, misty eye of the mountain below
Keep careful watch of my brothers' souls
And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke
Keep watching over Durin's sons
If this is to end in fire
Then we should all burn together
Watch the flames climb high into the night
Calling out father oh
Stand by and we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side
And if we should die tonight
Then we should all die together
Raise a glass of wine for the last time
Calling out father oh
Prepare as we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side
Desolation comes upon the sky
Now I see fire
Inside the mountain
I see fire
Burning the trees
And I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire
Blood in the breeze
And I hope that you remember me
Oh, should my people fall
Then surely I'll do the same
Confined in mountain halls
We got too close to the flame
Calling out father oh
Hold fast and we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side
Desolation comes upon the sky
Now I see fire
Inside the mountain
I see fire
Burning the trees
I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire
Blood in the breeze
And I hope that you remember me
And if the night is burning
I will cover my eyes
For if the dark returns
Then my brothers will die
And as the sky is falling down
It crashed into this lonely town
And with that shadow upon the ground
I hear my people screaming out
Now I see fire
Inside the mountains
I see fire
Burning the trees
I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire
Blood in the breeze
I see fire (oh you know I saw a city burning out) (fire)
And I see fire (feel the heat upon my skin, yeah) (fire)
And I see fire (uh-uh-uh-uh) (fire)
And I see fire burn auburn on the mountain side

There is no musician that could produce a better soundtrack for that particular movie. Not only is the music beautiful... But it is very atmospheric for the trilogy.

❤
When I watched the Hobbit.. in the end of the movie the lights didn't turn on until this song ended and everyone stayed at their seats to listen to this song. It's so amazing *-*
It's really funny because I watched it tonight and the lights turned on a second after the last scene faded out and I bitched about it for fifteen minutes - and my friend thought I was nuts. After that I went directly home, listened to this song in peace and after that started reading these comments - and this was the first one I saw.
Thank you so much for understanding. Seriously, I would go back and pay triple to have your experience.
That's awesome. When I went and watched it, I was the only person out of 30-40 ppl in the theatre who stayed and listened to the whole song.
I saw the whole song and oh wow it was AMAZING. I honestly need to learn the lyrics and just sing it to myself.

I think he would've liked the Hobbit to be a bit more playful, it's a tale for children originally, the motion picture is like an action movie.
zethgb It was very action packed but it did have those moments.
This will forever be a timeless classic to one of the best movie franchises ever created.
Brotha the hobbit trilogy was a huge disappointment

So neat
I made my friends watch it and they literally screamed " _noooo_ " when "directed by Peter Jackson" came up
why? he is a great director.
He meant they were upset the movie ended
yeaaaaah I was like WHATTTT??? Whattt??? whyyyy??? 😂😂😂
After 8 years I have only one word
Beautiful
How this song didn't get an oscar nomination is beyond me.....
It's the same deal they did with the LotR trilogy, they will bombard it with awards once all 3 are out.
after the first few verses its just to monotonous/uninflected
Jerome Kern You are monotonous
Johny M and you are very original
You said that
this shoulded be nominated and have won at the oscars last year
this song dont match at all with the hobbit or any other work of tolkien, so i really doubt that its going to win any oscar
Most definitely! One of the best movie songs I've heard in the past decade!
roknii2 True, it didn't match the normal theatrical music, but it wasn't really meant for that. The song is just sort of a retelling of what we saw/read.
and you can do it perfectly fine making a song that matches with the tolkien world. They just wanted to make money, atract people and sell sell sell $$$$$$$$$
Regardless, the song is beautiful.
How can one be so talented... 💗🔥✌🏼️
Kylie Woodall Ask my mom.
+balaji i haha great response
I wonder too :)
I dont now
Talent used to be normal a few decades ago, but not anymore. That's why Ed is so special to this generation.
This is probably my all time favorite song. I will never understand why it wasn't a bigger hit. It gives me chills!!
This is my favorite song too!!
Fits the movie perfectly and is just an all around amazing awesome song
It gave me chills too when I just listened to it again
