I was selling a car a few years ago here in Australia. Had a African guy come and look at it and trying to beat me down on the price. After about an hour, we agreed on what I was price and he wanted to leave a $500 deposit. I convinced him to leave $100 deposit. Anyway hearing up a few days later and said I have to drop the price because his wife said he couldn't have any more money. I said if you don't come and pay the rest within the seven days after you put down your $100 deposit I'll keep it there's no refund. By Australian law, the seller can keep a hundred dollar deposit after seven days. I never heard back from him again and sold it to somebody else. Cheers Graham
I used to drive a w123 240d as a work vehicle. The thing was slow, but super comfy and was good on fuel. It had a hand pump under the bonnet to build pressure sometimes if it didn't start, and you had to hold the glow plug button in when you wanted to start it. Good times lol
For someone who buy a 40 year old car from the road side, the more questions asked, the more you will be lied to. Just check papers, and ID of the seller.
@@oldmercguy Here in New England, w123/w124/w126 cars in poor condition, with no paper work, are still expensive cars, comparing to other parts of the country. 😕
Drop me a line if you're still looking for a W123 and don't have your heart set on a gasser, I'm in the Bangor area and have a very nice 1985 California 300D that I could bear to part with to make room for a 1984 Euro 300TD that I picked up earlier this year. (Hopefully that didn't set off any red flags, I haven't watched the whole video yet! 🤣 )
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle no, I haven't posted it for sale anywhere yet, was planning on stashing it in my in-laws' barn for the winter and putting it up for sale next spring after taking care of a few minor cosmetic issues. It's actually back in service as my daily driver this week because it's the only one of my three cars (I also have a Volvo) that has a functioning blower motor at the moment!
What do you think of buying a car from Aucor? Often sell for well below trade in price even after VAT and fees. Do you think the downsides outweigh the price?

Really good tips! 💪
Glad you like them! Thank you for watching
No papers or papers not up to date, I walk away. I check that engine and VIN match. If they don't, I want police clearance.
All great information. I walked away from a 77 w123 230 a few days ago.
There’s always another, better deal tomorrow.

@@nategodin Did you post it for sale, on marketplace early this year?

Really good video…
Thank you!
I only buy ,1 or 2 owner low km cars in great condition...they last for years, no money to spend...oil changes an feul..
And you avoid the horrendous initial depreciation
Great video. And those red flags you mention are - sadly - all too frequent , the norm not the exception.
Yes sadly you’re right. Thank you for watching.

I’ve never personally bought on auction as, to me, I need to speak to the person that’s owned and driven the car before I decide to buy it.
I have a question. from a mechanical aspect engine wise what are things I should check when I inspect the car I want tot buy? Specifically w123 240d
I check the condition of the oil, the water and on a diesel I do a blow-by test on the oil filler cap.
Send me R300 for petrol, WALK AWAY ITS A SCAM. A real seller would take more about the car first, then money later
Good 1, excellent video, you just need some face tattoos.
I was thinking perhaps a tin of Lucky Star Pilchards on my forehead….
Classic, To good😂
