As a New Yorker, I really appreciated Ice Spices' look. She evoked memories of the fly girls from the past who effortlessly blended designer pieces with street aesthetics. Very NYC coded. And the choice of her recognizable mini fro over the long hair was correct.

5:05 the background thing about Caroline Polachek is that her last album, Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, featured a motif of a volcano and she also had a huge volcano prop during the tour. So the dress also sort of looks like a volcano (or rather lava) erupting out of her upper chest. Edit: The volcano is supposed to represent the desire that she wanna turns into. It represents her desires that are burning under the surface and are ready to explode, desires she wanna let out. I just saw an interview where she sort of confirmed that the dress is supposed to play into the whole album thing and signal that she indeed turned into desire in the end. The title is double entendre, I HIGHLY suggest everyone to listen to it because it’s EXTREMELY good album.
Love it when you reference previous looks or shows for the fashion. What I noticed was how lost the dark or black outfits were against the black background. Don't the stylists get warning about what colours their client will be standing in front of? Poor Taylor swift looked like the Venus de Milo statue as her arms disappeared.
@SargenSmee That's an excellent point and black and/or white doesn't suit a lot of people at all, including Taylor Swift, as well as myself! I had my colours done many years ago, so found out why I used to think that something wasn't right when I wore certain ones, especially black. It seems like many stylists haven't learnt about this concept, which can make a huge difference to a person's overall appearance. 😊

One of my problems with Taylor’s styling (and come @ me) is that I’m convinced she does most of her styling herself. She chooses her hair and make up style for reasons known only to her - plus the accessory choices are just… why. Ultimately, the outfits are probably made by her (overwhelming) direction… and there’s a reason she’s never been considered a style icon. I’m not sure where a lot of her taste comes from. It’s a strange mish mash of $$$ brands, sparkles, and some very basic ideas of what fashion is. She does a great regular street style look - but it’s very rare that you see her in anything groundbreaking. Her classic looks have worked best. Her most flattering red carpet moments are normally Oscar de la Renta. I’ve seen her in very few red carpet looks where every element of her look was top notch from head to toe (but that Grammy Oscar look lives in my head rent free).

I'm surprised at everyone's surprise. Taylor is your basic blonde winner. Best at everything and blah blah blah *snore* ... an unchallenged character is an uninteresting character. She does not make interesting creative choices because she's never been limited and therefore pushed to make do. I could name only 2 of her songs because they all wash over me as generic pop, whereas I know every word of every Bowie song from 1969 to 1989, and a few after his hey day too. And that's not because he's male, it's because he wasn't always male.

Moire is a difficult fabric to look after ! It is often silk / polyester. The fabric is just plain fabric. put through very heavy metal rollers with the moire patter etched on it, so that the effect is pressed onto the fabric. It looks lovely, but if you get it wet ! The fabric goes back to its original texture and the moire effect disappears !!!

Britney had this behaviour too; would refuse to wear pieces from her stylists and would insist on the messy hair and she'd insist on doing her own makeup.

Why put people in costumes that are not them, that they are nor feeling comfortable in? re: boygenius - their look is actually a reference to one of the songs on their album ("i'll be the boy with the pink carnation pinned to my lapel") which is a reference to the song "a white sport coat (and a pink carnation)" by marty robbins and the fact that eliott smith (one of phoebe's main influences) wanted to wear a pink carnation with his white suit at the oscars but was told to take it off because "it looked stupid"

5:05 the background thing about Caroline Polachek is that her last album, Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, featured a motif of a volcano and she also had a huge volcano prop during the tour. So the dress also sort of looks like a volcano (or rather lava) erupting out of her upper chest.
Edit: The volcano is supposed to represent the desire that she wanna turns into. It represents her desires that are burning under the surface and are ready to explode, desires she wanna let out. I just saw an interview where she sort of confirmed that the dress is supposed to play into the whole album thing and signal that she indeed turned into desire in the end. The title is double entendre, I HIGHLY suggest everyone to listen to it because it’s EXTREMELY good album.

Love it when you reference previous looks or shows for the fashion. What I noticed was how lost the dark or black outfits were against the black background. Don't the stylists get warning about what colours their client will be standing in front of? Poor Taylor swift looked like the Venus de Milo statue as her arms disappeared.

One of my problems with Taylor’s styling (and come @ me) is that I’m convinced she does most of her styling herself. She chooses her hair and make up style for reasons known only to her - plus the accessory choices are just… why. Ultimately, the outfits are probably made by her (overwhelming) direction… and there’s a reason she’s never been considered a style icon. I’m not sure where a lot of her taste comes from. It’s a strange mish mash of $$$ brands, sparkles, and some very basic ideas of what fashion is. She does a great regular street style look - but it’s very rare that you see her in anything groundbreaking. Her classic looks have worked best. Her most flattering red carpet moments are normally Oscar de la Renta. I’ve seen her in very few red carpet looks where every element of her look was top notch from head to toe (but that Grammy Oscar look lives in my head rent free).
same, I think she is very much involved and directing in the dress process and styling. otherwise she wouldn't wear dresses that look totally different than what the brands usually do.

I'm surprised at everyone's surprise. Taylor is your basic blonde winner. Best at everything and blah blah blah *snore* ... an unchallenged character is an uninteresting character. She does not make interesting creative choices because she's never been limited and therefore pushed to make do. I could name only 2 of her songs because they all wash over me as generic pop, whereas I know every word of every Bowie song from 1969 to 1989, and a few after his hey day too. And that's not because he's male, it's because he wasn't always male.

Moire is a difficult fabric to look after ! It is often silk / polyester. The fabric is just plain fabric. put through very heavy metal rollers with the moire patter etched on it, so that the effect is pressed onto the fabric. It looks lovely, but if you get it wet ! The fabric goes back to its original texture and the moire effect disappears !!!

My only massive disagreement was the first dress: I thought it was a classic look that rather wisely let her face and hair do all the talking, but i must say I was also not a fan of the Morticia Addams dress cuz it looks like a heart stab. Absolutely loved loved the red canopy forest dress, and the deconstructed nun dress: both wacky but wonderful art-dresses. I'm glad he gave a shoutout to Joni Mitchell!

i remember feeling so disappointed the first time i saw taylor’s outfit. i haven’t watched the reaction to her outfit yet but the hair made her look really angular(?) and tbh looked unbrushed, the dress made her look short, and the layering of the necklaces looked weird to me. i also think that olivia always looks the same on the red carpet. all the dresses she wears are the same and her hair is never different
