Yesterday, King Charles and Queen Camilla warmly welcomed the Emperor and Empress of Japan with a royal banquet and some very thoughtful gifts, including a bespoke fan and Japanese-owned malt whiskey from Aberdeen. It got us thinking about the times we’ve received gifts that have not gone down so well! A male co-worker in his late 50’s married for the second time. For their first Christmas he bought his (49 year old) wife the ENTIRE RANGE of anti-ageing skin care from a very expensive brand (it cost over £250)!!! He’s now looking for his third wife.

I use to work at a shop and a customer had bought in a gift. It was nicely wrappped, it was a book, when i opened it stank so bad, the pages had turned colour and had mold on it. He said he had the book for 30 years!

I worked for a doctor and my job was to type complex reports for her. At Christmas time she gave me a gift box thanking me for all the hard work throughout the year. I was so chuffed! I opened the box and inside was 5 cheap toffees! 🤷🏼‍♀️ What made it worse was that I saved the gift for Christmas Day and opened it in front of all our guests 🤣

2 years ago, I started asking everyone in the family what they want for Christmas so that we don't have to do the whole song and dance of pretending to like to gift lol. The rest of the family started doing it too and now everyone's genuinely happy with the gift they receive.

Secret Santa is the way to go. As a family group you only buy one present and each member says what they'd like to receive for the allotted agreed price. If you want one big present that's fine, if you prefer a few that's fine too. Takes all the stress out of Christmas shopping.

I had two awful Christmas presents from my husband, one was a loft ladder so he didn’t have to get the Christmas decorations down from the loft and the other was a roasting rack that somebody bought back to the shop and he thought I would find it useful! I took action and never again did he buy me anything for the house!
