- This tutorial will teach you how to set up your Nvidia or AMD graphics card in Batocera. In addition, if you are having problems with your Nvidia card not working, this tutorial will provide an easy solution.
NOTE: Please make sure to use Notepad++ when you are editing any files in Batocera. Otherwise, things may not work well.

Batocera devs need to add dedicated gpu support within Batocera this should be an essential feature, still can't believe its not added yet

Thank you again for your wonderful explanations. I have had great success with many PS2 and PS3 games, though a few would crash/freeze. Your Vsync tip got most of those working, and bouncing through a few other settings (openGL/Vulkan, compiler) cleared up the rest. Keep track of your settings attempts, you should be able to find one that works. Batocera does not utilize much of a big video card, as most retro games are only cpu heavy. My gtx1650 card only gets taxed to 10% utilization max. I build a good amount of machines, and Batocera is my favorite for retro gaming up to PS3, WiiU, Xbox and Model 3. Way less frustration than than other gaming platforms.
The entire time I thought my PC was not powerful enough for these games as most would only run well at lowest resolution, until i followed your tutorial for my external hard drive and editing the cnf file with notepad! It now works flawlessly and it was clear that was my issue as the FPS counter USED to be around 30fps is now 2k or so in the batocera menu. Thank you thank you thank you!!
You are the man, worked perfectly for me as I had used internal AMD GPU on my 5600G, but then added a RTX 3050 card. First it did not detect then after making the simple changes mentioned above it worked perfectly and now it detects my video card. Thank you so much!!!

So far,been using Batocera just on my Mini PCS, M93P,Elitedesk Mini,etc.But now i gotta try my 1TB Build on my Thermaltake CoreV1 AMD ITX PCS! One has a GTX 1070,other has a R9 290X card...

I can’t Believe this still isn’t fixed or acknowledged by the devs. So many people have this issue, yet it’s not even acknowledged. You can also downgrade to v31 where your built in Nvidia card will work with vsync.
Hopefully this video will get the ball rolling for a proper fix where vsync can be enabled.
Hopefully, they can fix it in time for Batocera 34. Someone else found a solution setting the game launch animation to instant.
I had the same problem with these identical specs. Most of the games I tried to load from ES would just crash. Although turning vsync off fixed the problem, all my games were then producing screen tearing which wasn’t acceptable. The solution that worked for me was setting the game launch animation to instant. Once I did that, I could leave vsync on and all my games would load perfectly.

Firstly thank you for the Batocera focus your channel delivers on. I currently use the integrated GPU in my i7 4790. I also use VGA out to a Sony Multiscan E230. The experience is very good indeed, rather excellent. That said I would like to purchase a discreet card but with VGA output. I understand that there are adapters that go from HDMI/DVI to VGA but I am hesitant to go that route only because I am not sure if that might create some issue all its own.
Can you recommend a card with VGA out? What are your thoughts on this issue, if any. Thank you!
Thanks for this. I was having problems with v33 not working with my gtx 1070. Tried all different methods without success using wordpad & notepad(Its works on previous versions) Then I downloaded notepad++ to edit the config file and guess what it finally works! I noticed u use notepad++ as well. Maybe put that as a disclaimer for others who might be having the same problem. Thanks

Is there a way to update the graphics drivers used in Batocera, or move it from the official linux drivers to the open-source community drivers? I haven't found a way as of yet, and I get the feeling a Ryzen 1600 and an RTX 2070 should be getting more than 30-40 FPS on PS2 emulators (yes, I'm aware of the disparity of those two parts. This is a machine that has hand-me-down parts from my main PC).
New bato plus have last and old nvidia drivers bato plus 2.21 steel works with 6xx and 7xx series.

Thanks for this, can you please do an update video own how to properly set up MUGEN, I tried so many times get errors with a blue screen, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I setup the readme file change too .pc etc etc and still the games load sometimes most times don't and then the controllers change for each game, sometimes it just loads into the 2player port
Hello. I have a Samsung R780 laptop with a GeForce 330M. This doesn't work... how do i get the old drivers and keep the last release of Batocera?
On gamecube when i play need for speed most wanted or carbon i get these square gfx glitches on the fmv. How do i fix that?
I'm surprised that Batocera didn't by default use the dedicated graphics when it is present in the system.

Love your tutorials man. Had some problems with the exact same Nvidia card. On my end Batocera just can't launch any games when using my Nvidia card. The screen just freezes on the Batocera menu. Going to tries this and see if it works.
I have the same issue but this didn't work for me.
Try setting game loading animation to instant. Worked for me while keeping vsync on.

Hi batocera nation, v36 is out now. Is setting up a discrete graphics card any easier yet? I tried installing Nvidia drivers for evga Nvidia gtx 750 ti on v35 but i ended up with the black screen which I didn't know how to get back from so i did a fresh install of v36 but im scared if I try again it will be another black screen. Any help would be great thank you.

just removed # from 2nd as well as 1st reload and black ..using gtx 2gb cannot remember model,will add soon as i know
have a 2gb gtx 660 in my i7 6gb ram nothings working..tried putting text back as was starts loading then dark screen in later minutes it might display emu list but soon as i click space it goes silly and flashes on dark screen again,,vsync is still turned off.

So I followed the steps but im not getting any real performance gains, im using a gtx 1660 super with a ryzen 5600, 16gb 3200mhz and ps3 is unplayable and gamecube I have to play at native resolution. is this normal?
My driver was already enabled, so i enabled the prime, turned off VSync and saw an performance increase. Thank you.

People seem to have less trouble with AMD graphics cards. For Nvidia, they provide support for any Nvidia card 750 GTX or higher.
Really valuable info. Why don't they incorporate these in the UI?
With the latest update in Batocera 35, it should be automatic, but Nvidia uses are still having problems. It seems that AMD users have less trouble.

People seem to have trouble with AMD graphics cards. I tried it with a Nvidia 1660 Super card without trouble. You might ask on the official Batocera forums.
How to restore it? I do exactly like you did but it turns black after reboot..

No hmdi or vulkan in bato 33 did not work . but in new bato.plus 2.21 is working
If im running it on a laptop with discrete graphics card, does it default and use the onboard graphics ?
If you don't turn on your Nvidia or AMD card in the config file, it will default to onboard graphics.
Can anyone confirm whether or not Batocera will work with an eGPU over Thunderbolt 3?

@@BatoceraNation yes,. I watched the videos and followed all the tips, including boot.conf changes. I had a similar issue with some older Nvidia cards,. But most newish Nvidia work fine,. I have a gtx 1060 that is picked up no problem,. But nothing with my Radeon Rx 580,. It works in terms of video output,. But the system doesn't use it as main GPU for emulation,. It never showed in the open gl information settings. Thanks,. Also I have an egpu that is also not picked up by batocera no matter what changes I make in the boot.conf file.
Hi just updated my GFX card to GTX 1660 super.. on my gaming monitor it works fine.. I switched it to my 70 inch TV and now everything is moving extremely slow (lagg)

This might be a more technical issue since it works in your gaming monitor. Try posting your problem in the official Batocera.org forums. Someone with more expertise will know how to fix it. But for the time being, go into Batocera's System Settings then Video Output then try the different output settings given to you. Try each one until you find one that works.
I've tried everything nothing works,i just cant get this piece of junk notebook to use the graphics card,is an elitebook 8730w and man i been at it for a week and nothing i put flase instead of true o enables and disable the comands and nothign works could it be taht im using a version way to advance for thso notebook?
After the update, only the splash screen appears and then a black screen. How can this problem be solved?
Have gtx 960 and the black screen. Tried every single combo of nvidia option in the config file .. same outcome. Downgraded to V31 and it detects properly but as soon as I upgrade to 35.. black screen. Any advice?
Unfortunately, you will need to redo installation again since Nvidia **x60 cards have given us such a hard time. Copy your files from your share/userdata to a portable hard drive as a backup of all your games. Then burn the new Batocera 35 image for your PC (in whatever method you choose the first time). Batocera 35 has a new Nvidia auto configuration process for Nvidia cards. It should pick the right Nvidia driver for it and boot up. Finally, copy back your userdata files from your portable hard drive back into your PC Batocera 35 system.
I wish it worked. I've tried it on 2 fresh usb thumb drives and still does not detect. It does detect my Nvidia gt720 but I would really like it to work on the GTX 960.

I have unticked all of them and not working. Nvidia GT 740M im using with a core i5 4 series on a toshiba laptop.
If i untick just the first opt, it boots but Graphics remains on Intel. If i untick both of them, it wont boot. It remains în Black screen after într-o.
I have manager to make it work on a gtx 1050 and on a rtx 2070. Still didnt make it on my old gt 740M. I need to figure it out. Never messed it up with Linux os till now.

I finished installing batocera and games and all but I dont seem to get how how to close games with the controller or open the menus. I can only close the games with alt f4
With a controller exiting a game should be hotkey and start at same time.
So unless you assigned your hotkey to another button the default is select (hotkey) and start at same time.
@@fonzitheman I finally kind of figured it out. I saw a photo of the supposed hotkeys but some are different. I was thinking if it is possible to pull up a menu while in game, like the one you get with the fn buttom on the anbernics that it takes you to the reteoarch menu I think

You can enter retroarch (when using the Libretto core options only of course) but any changes you make there don't always stick even if you save setting for core,directory or game.
That's because ES settings are designed for that even though not all options are available through ES.
Anyway,if you want to enter retroarch you launch a game,then press hotkey and south button at same time,it's called south button cause it depends on the controller you are using,if it's a PlayStation type then it would be hotkey and X.
To go back to game press them again .
For the stand alone emulator options press F1 on keyboard and enter apps folder.
But again,any changes you make there may not stick.
5700G is more than enough for me to emulate all the way up to the gamecube
Question why cant batocera do regular updates of its emulators to keep things up to date.
On average, the developers release a new Batocera version every 3 months. With every release, the emulators are updated.
@@BatoceraNation ok i have a pc running dueal boot linux and windows on a separate hard drive for booth is there a way to put batocera on another hard drive and tripple boot from a menu on the pc..

What about it? If thats what the PC you are using for Batocera has, then it'll be using that.

I can't get my Nvidia card to work, tried all combos and nothing happens and now I've set the boot config back to how it was and now I get a blank screen ☹️☹️☹️ any help appreciated
solution for windows:
install editor notepad++(do not use notepad etc.)
conect your batocera usb stick, sd card or hdd and open the "batocera-boot.conf" ( should be in root folder or boot folder) with notepad++
save your changes
remove batocera stick or hdd or whatever
boot your batocera
and it should work again

That's the problem. Your graphics card is more than 12 years old. Batocera is designed to work on cards 750 GTX or newer. Your only other option is to try to download at the very bottom of the download links, the version that says,: 64bit PC with Nvidia legacy drivers (pre-GTX 750 Ti).
I've been having a problem since the update , my sceen is black i cant see nothing
solution for windows:

Not at the moment but it should soon work on it. It is just a question of time.
Disabled the second # first for NVIDIA and it booted to a black screen.
The newer builds of Batocera have a built in Nvidia feature that doesn't require this anymore. If you have an older Nvidia card (i.e. 750 or less) than you will need an older build of Batocera which can be found here: mirrors.o2switch.fr/batocera/x86_64/stable/last/archives/

@@BatoceraNation The same here too. Notebook Gigabyte G5 KF, GPU nVidia 4060, no # removed the Intel GPU is recognized, first # removed the Intel GPU is also recognized, second # removed black screen. I cannot activate the 4060. What am I doing wrong?

Oh my god... this is just bad. Had a working Batocera, but had to reflash it. Now I'm struggling with even getting the Nvidia driver to work. It's that bad, that I thinking about getting back to Retropie.
Try flashing with the latest version of Batocera Beta 35. It automatically picks the Nvidia driver for you. You can find it here:

Have you tried v35 beta?
Stable version should be out soon anyway.
I believe v35 has support to auto enable nvidia cards, maybe others not sure.
@@fonzitheman i'll try when the official releasee comes out... i installed windows 11 + coinops collections and everything its fine .... so a linux based emulator should be even better, dont know why it doesnt work
