Thanks for the review! I grew up reading x-men and avengers in the 90s, and have to say I loved this storyline at the time! Can’t wait to get this omnibus :)
I always find it so funny how you left comics around the time I started buying them. I actually discovered them in high school and got really into them during college and I've never left. I wasn't big into DC and Marvel though, what got me hooked was image and the Bad Girl comics craze. So I've been buying and reading these Omnibuses of all the classic storylines I missed out on.
I recently re-read the Spider-Man issues from this crossover, as they were in my ben Reilly Volume 2 Omnibus, I had forgotten how much I liked this and how much of a 90s mark I am. I actually pre-ordered this as soon as it was available.
I already have this particular omni, but I am thrilled that it is back for those who missed out. I know it wasn't perfect, and I think anyone who disliked this story is completely justified. For me personally, the story is so ridiculously 90's that I can't help but love it. There are some really cool moments, and the build-up was amazing. Plus the art is just fantastic.
I love it as well. I think it fell apart when Marvel decided to pull their punches. They should of fully committed to make Professor X the villain of this event. I’d love to see and an MCU version of this though, but they would probably never do it.
@@stauffer433 I couldn't agree more with you there. Missed opportunity for sure, but I absolutely love the concept of Onslaught and what he's capable of. I would love seeing a movie adaptation!
I can understand people dipping out at this point, but this is where I first dove in! And I was thrilled to see the traitor-in-the-X-Men storyline (adapted, but never finished in the animated series) actually pay off. I'll definitely be getting the book, partly because the Milestones version of the Onslaught event was missing so much context, and partly because it will go great next to my Heroes Return Omnibus.
It was around this time that I finally dropped the X-Men titles and bailed on the majority of the Marvel comics lineup as a whole. I think I grabbed some Daredevil and Silver Surfer at that point until Waid and Garney returned on Cap another year+ out. On my teenage allowance, it was more feasible to take up smoking a pack a day than it was to buy all the tie-ins for this thing. That said... I still pre-ordered it. 👀
I Pre-ordered this Book Forever Ago from DCBS..Happy to hear 🙉 that it's coming Soon lol 😅 Big Thanks Omar for another Awesome Video 😁 Sending Good Wishes for Your Move 👍💜
Lol I remember a LOT of people dropping X-Men/Marvel for a while after this event. Vertigo and a few smaller companies had some gems dropping around the time so it was an interesting shift for a lot of people as well.
I was big into 90s xmen and Xforce as well as everyone my age who was in high school...but...we All dropped comics cause of girls and growing out of it.lol im happy to get these omnibuses now
Can't wait to get this, I absolutely love all that over-the-top, melodramatic, faux Shakespearean, crazy fun 90s stuff. Onslaught was a hoot and a holler.
I've always considered this the end of the first Marvel age. Probably because it was a legit break as this started the trend of restarting the numbering on all of the series. Still, it was a decent story and I'm looking forward to reading it again.
I feel our wonderful narrator/creator of this wonderful vid in approx age and reasons for moving away from comics for awhile. Lol sports, females, partying, and just generally living young and wild and free 🎉😎🤙✌️
@@NearMintCondition I've been using free time when I was working remotely and now while free to board and bag all my comics that didn't have one or both as well as catalogued them all on OpenSpreadSheet aka free Excel. Then I went through all my binders, boxes and attained over the majority of my non-collecting 20s and 30s loose cards of all sports and random collectibles trading card types (aka X-Men/Marvel, Magic TG, videogames, etc) then organized all types and stages of safety covered I got all and any possible worth much if at all more than common cards into single card hard cases while grouping hard cases had and making by sport/game, producing company, year, and the like down to players/character, team/game or other grouping category used that logically helped identity and group/box/store together to easily and quickly find when wanted
The Road to Onslaught volumes lead into this. The aftermaths are only in trade. If you look at my X-men reading order. Part 3 I believe you’ll see the books you need.
I feel like this event (Onslaught/AoA) is fondly beloved by pretty much everyone except me - I quit X-men shortly after, but - good news to all the fans, looks like a popular volume back in print!!
The build up to this story was way better than the actual story itself which i found kinda average to meh. Though i was excited for Heroes Reborn until i read it and realized bleah! I think i quit X-men right after this The Twelve nonsense (not comics though) as i just could not take it anymore until returning to X-Men when Morrison began.
This is the storyline that made me quit comics as well. I'm sure part of it was my age as I graduated high school in 1997, but I think a large part of it was that this epitomized the '90s "extreme coolness" that Todd Macfarlane and Rob Liefeld really kicked off and everyone tried to emulate, as well the manga influence that was unsuccessfully overwhelming Marvel comics and made everything feel cartoonish and made it hard to enjoy the stories coming out. I only regret that it took me as long as it did to get back into comics, it wasn't until the late noughts around the time that Iron Man came out that I started collecting again.
Interesting, this was also my goodbye to comics. Clone saga made me drop Spider-Man and this was literally the very last saga I read. I liked it, don’t get me wrong. I have fond memories of Onslaught, I thought it was a really cool design and a great idea for a villain, even if the event itself started with a bang and ended on a whimper (in my view). And I never fully returned to comics tbh (mostly read mangas and one or another cross over saga). I now collect omnibus for old stories I read during my childhood/teen years, but I don’t follow anything modern.
I knew of the event but never read it. I think I was more at dc then because of losh, legionnaires, Batman & superman. My actual book arrive on sat 26/02. Still sealed and I will read it one day. Thanks for the review as always. I love your reviews, but my wallet hates you. 🙃
There are a lot of people that doesn’t like this event, even many people said that was a waste of time including all the other heroes like Avengers and The Fantastic Four, but the fact is that originally the Onslaught saga was going to be a exclusive X-Men story (Like they did with Age Of Apocalypse, even as a continuation to the AoA Story, following the Bishop's Quest) but Marvel included the Avengers and the FF because of the poorly comic selling their titles were suffering at that time, so they included them to the story and Marvel “killed” them to make a reboot of them (that’s why Heroes Reborn were created) So, Onslaught to me was cool croosover story
It’s really too bad that Fabian N left the X-Men universe at Age of Apocalypse. He truly was the best writer in the series post Chris Claremont. It’s probably why there are no omnibuses between this book and Apocalypse vs the 12. I’m curious to k ow why he left. Such a shame.
As blasphemous as this may be to ask, would I be making a huge mistake if I read this as my introduction to X-Men? (But only because I want to read heroes reborn and I don’t have all the UXM omnis to start my readathon.) Thanks in advance for any input.
Omar, I know you stopped reading comics at the time of Onslaught and you mention you were in college, life was changing, which is something we all can understand, but I guess my question is, how much was you decision to stop reading comics due to the quality or lack of quality of the stories? Was Onslaufht disappointing? I’ve ordered with the understanding that I shouldn’t have too high of expectations. Let me know your thoughts.
I stopped reading a little after and didn't pick up another comic book for almost 25 years. No doubt being in my late teens played some part, but can't deny the drop in quality of the books and stories. The Malibu-era coloring was ugly, particularly with Joe Mad's style, Marvel went bankrupt and canned hundreds of employees in their already creatively-starved lineup, and they just weren't very compelling books. The design of Onslaught looked as goofy then as it does now, and there was no prime-era Claremont to give the story any interesting or dramatic landing. The editors and shareholders wrote the end.
This one weeds out the folks that buy old stories to reread them and those that buy any brick for a pretty spine. Pitty to the souls that buy this to read something they never had before
That would be me. I have never read it so I'm buying it to read it for the first. Already have the lowest of expectations but I enjoy the hobby enough to read it regardless lol
Does anyone else have a problem with cheap graphic novels I can't make an account to buy anything keeps saying my email is invalid even though I use it for everything else I even made a new one and it wouldn't except it either c'mon I just want to give you money
Never thought I would hear Omar saying he wanted a Road To Onslaught omnibus! 😂

Loved the build up to this event. The mystery of who Onslaught was is more interesting than the reveal itself. Will probably get this at some point.

Same here, it's so over-the-top insane fun and full of 90s melodrama that I can't help but love it.
The 2 page spreads are looking real good almost like the actual singles as far as gutter loss

How's the mapping for the Omni? does it read well or is it all over the place
Thanks for the review Omar! Thorough video about Onslaught! Much appreciated!
Noice! I've heard a lot about this story but haven't had the chance to read it before.
Can't wait to get this, I absolutely love all that over-the-top, melodramatic, faux Shakespearean, crazy fun 90s stuff. Onslaught was a hoot and a holler.
Can’t believe people are so excited for this and the clone saga omnibus.
I know lmao!
Why u dissin this omni hahahah. Anyhow, thru all its fault, still love this run. Def buy for me.
Can’t beat the 90s when it comes to comics
Does this book have a table of contents ? Is it printed in the same or of the Complete Epic paperbacks?
I love your reviews! They are really helpful, it would be great if in the future you feature more mangas. Congratulations! 🎉🎉🎉
I've always considered this the end of the first Marvel age. Probably because it was a legit break as this started the trend of restarting the numbering on all of the series. Still, it was a decent story and I'm looking forward to reading it again.
Hi Omar
I have mine pre-ordered.

Is this one mapped in chronological order?
In terms of X-omnis, where does this Onslaught one take place?
dam the art is cool!!!
Hi omar, two questions
1. The road to onslaught would be the prelude of this omni?
2. The aftermath is in the omni?
The Road to Onslaught volumes lead into this. The aftermaths are only in trade. If you look at my X-men reading order. Part 3 I believe you’ll see the books you need.
Man i have been waiting a long time to read this, pre ordered the DM and will be so happy having it next to the heroes reborn/return omnis on my shelf
Does anyone know if this book is printed in chronological order or will I have to skip around ?
It is.
@@NearMintCondition you legend, thanks!
Where does this go on shelves next to avengers or X-men omnibus?
Always X-men :)
@@NearMintCondition the right answer 😂
I’m wondering if I should buy this or Xmen vs avengers next?
There's nothing I like about this but will I buy it? YES
The power of Omar

Really weird comment. You're insane.
First person ive ever heard say they dislike this. You're fucked pal.
I didn't say I wasn't going to buy, I'll have it preordered on day one but I was just sharing my experience as it's similar to Omar's.
And now we need ROAD TO ONSLAUGHR OMNIBUS 🙏🙏🙏🙏

house and powers of x by hickman was pretty good. i hear ya though.

I really fancy getting this but with all the -ve reviews I'm on the fence. Can anyone convince me otherwise? 👍
I'll take that as a no then 😂
I’ve never read any of this so I ordered it. I am sucker for big crossovers and I hope Marvel continues to omnibize all the big ones.

Some people love it. So there is a crowd that thinks this is great, but I still think you may benefit from reading Bishop’s Crossing first.
Onslaught is very dated as an event and maybe didn't live up to its full potential, but I still like a lot of the art from those series.

Decided to ruin your week early with this turd of a book, eh?

Possibly the worst comics ever printed. Got me to quit the hobby for nearly a decade.
Can't blame anyone who quit.
the issues from 1999 up to the New X-Men are worse. these are definitely not the worst
Dont like the art,the story was ok,to dissapointing at the time, gonna pass on this.
I have never liked that Ian Churchill image, to be honest. I wish the wraparound cover and dustjacket were the same...
