Just bought the DMX Excelon 908S and love it!! I originally got the Excelon DDX396 but found the UI laggy, plus I didn’t care for the resistive touch screen and dimly lit screen in the daytime. Now granted the 396 was a $275 unit vs the 908S at $699. The 908S is a completely different animal. The capacitive touch screen is wonderful as well as being much bigger. Plus, u can actually swipe and drag and drop icons. With a HD tuner and all the other great features I’m very happy with it!! Originally had my heart set on a Pioneer head unit, but the reviews didn’t seem to great and just didn’t offer everything I wanted.
thanks for the great review, now I just gotta get the double din conversion for my vehicle, my last car had a kenwood unit and i really liked it so i've been looking around for info and it seems like the 9708s is the best choice for my plans :)
Display either camera while driving, YES, as a widget, no. Widgets are only available on the large screen receivers such as DMX1037S, DMX1057XR, DNR1007XR or the newest DNR1008RVS
The Kenwood DMX8709S is a great receiver too, essentially identical to the Kenwood Excelon DMX809S, however the DMX8709S lacks HD Radio, and lacks 2 year warranty (Excelon comes with 2 year warranty). Honestly, I am personally not a huge fane of their new 6.8" screen design on either of these receivers (DMX8709S and DMX809S), I like the larger 7" screen designs with the lower portion hard buttons.
Can this Kenwood model ground the parking brake connection to a screw on the back of the unit like other Kenwood models? Does the home screen allow to set your own picture backgrounds? I'm debating between this and a Alpine ILX-507, which I currently have installed but it's having issues with steering wheel controls and the need to double-engage the parking brake just to get into the settings menu is very annoying.
@@LockdownSecurity I need some input as well Just installed this unit today with the hdmi option . I ran a toggle from parking wire to the ground . I called Kenwood support they couldn’t seem to tell me if just ground it and forget it or if you have to toggle it on
@@LockdownSecurity I can’t get the hdmi to play with my new fire stick it says “ No signal “ on the front and I have the park Wire grounded to a toggle and switched on and I tested ground I bought a “Best buy” insignia brand mini HDMI type “D” to type “A” and I still get no signal screen ? Do I absolutely need kenwoods particular hdmi cable for the dmx9708s ?

You have to go with the kenwood Excelon version, the DMX908S if you want HD Radio.
If my car already has turn signal camera will i be able to KEEP that capability?
Possibly through use of an interface module.

Yes this model can have the ebrake input simply grounded, and yes the home screen image can be customized with any image of your choice,

The only cable guaranteed to work is Kenwood's cable.
