Great initial review! Appears to be a very capable, well optioned, and reasonably priced stereo. I have a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X704 single DIN unit in my '94 Lincoln Mark VIII, hooked up with the built-in amp to a set of Kicker CS Component speakers, and the clarity is unbelievable! The DMX-709S will very likely be the radio I install into my next purchase, a '96 or '97 Lincoln Town Car. I know it requires a bit of massaging, but putting a double DIN in the pre-'03 Town Cars has been done before, and the short chassis of this radio means I likely won't have to modify the A/C ducting. With the correct adapter to retain the factory steering wheel controls, I'll rarely ever have to use the capacitive touch buttons 😁
The 96 - 97 Town Car is an awesome car, not many of them around anymore though. Send us pics when/if you get it and install the DMX709S, and when you are ready to purchase the DMX709S we can set you up with one at a great price. www.lockdownsecurity.ca
That connection in question is a mini-HDMI input. i just got one of these and I'm pretty meh about it. No album art and the 2016 stock Mazda unit has better features.
What is the GPS used for and what features would not be available if not used. What does the attenuation feature do, is it a mute or just lowers the volume a certain amount? Thanks
The GPS antenna makes the navigation through CarPlay or Android Auto much more accurate. You can use either without the antenna, but accuracy will go down for navigation. Also, the GPS antenna is used for auto setting time on the radio. Attenuation is like MUTE, it brings the volume level way down when pressed so that it is not a distraction (for example if you are speaking with someone in the vehicle).
The DMX709S does NOT have wireless function of any kind, it requires a cable connection to your Android phone (or iPhone). The next model up, the DMX908S will have wireless, we are adding this model to our website shortly and will also have a RUclips video on it shortly as well.
Since installing this unit in my car, it's draining the battery. Is there a sleep mode that I need to disable or is it the Standby feature? if so , how do you exit Standby mode? I press that button and nothing happens.
This radio would now be superior in all aspects except screen size (the DMX709S has a smaller screen than the AVIC0-7200NEX). This is because the AVIC-7200NEX is now almost 7 years old, versus the DMX709S which is brand new from 2023.
Do you have the Sat radio tuner installed? If you do you select Sat radio as a source, and there will be a menu selection where you can view the tuner ID number.
on the crutchfield site it states navigation optional when doing the compare between this and other head units. for the older kenwood head units there was a nav adapter, does this unit have that capability to add nav. i know, it has carplay and aa but let's say your battery dies on your phone or your phone is broken, it would be nice to have nav backup if it wasn't too much to add.
No current navigation adapters exist that we are aware of. You are correct, in the past there was, but sales were very poor due to high cost (it was cheaper to buy an all in one with NAV built in). So I'd say Crutchfield has an error on their site, or maybe they know more than we do. But checking all current Kenwood catalogues and training material (2023), nowhere is an add on nav adapter listed.
Possibly, we have not compared the EQ in either radio though, I would assume that would be the same in both radios but definitely possible the Excelon version has a better EQ.

I installed this radio in 2008 Corolla. A great upgrade to modernize the car. I added new speakers and a subwoofer. Plus, the reverse camera.
I use the remote control also….
How do you connect for apple carplay on mine the apple CarPlay is just grey

Thanks for the video. Can i install this on a 2011 honda civic?
Yes, this radio works on a 2011 Civic, we can sell you everything you need to install it on this vehicle.
I have a question about the dmx709s that I can not find a diffinitive answer on. Does it have mirror link wireless for Android or is it wired. Thanks
The DMX709S does NOT have wireless function of any kind, it requires a cable connection to your Android phone (or iPhone).
The next model up, the DMX908S will have wireless, we are adding this model to our website shortly and will also have a RUclips video on it shortly as well.
@@LockdownSecurity the dmx809s also has wireless carplay and android auto and is cheaper than the dmx908s
@@PresentedByBailey This is correct, pretty much the main difference between the DMX809S and DMX709S is the wireless CarPlay and Android Auto
@@LockdownSecuritydoes it still come with the hdmi cord or no?

It should not be draining your battery, if the radio is staying on when you shut the vehicle off, you have an install issue that needs to be checked.
what would be the equivalent to the Pioneer AVIC 7200 NEX?
This radio would now be superior in all aspects except screen size (the DMX709S has a smaller screen than the AVIC0-7200NEX). This is because the AVIC-7200NEX is now almost 7 years old, versus the DMX709S which is brand new from 2023.
Aside from the hd radio, is there any difference in the sound quality between this and the 7709S?
Should be no difference in sound quality.
How do I find the radio ID number or ESN # , so I can activate my xm radio ?
Do you have the Sat radio tuner installed? If you do you select Sat radio as a source, and there will be a menu selection where you can view the tuner ID number.

I'm thinking of upgrading from a JVC KW-M560BT worth it?
Yes I think it would be worth it, as you would get the 2 year warranty, plus higher voltage RCA pre-outs
Where can I get the hdmi cable ? Can't find it anywhere. Hdmi to usb c I believe it's hdmi mini?

From my research this radio has a better eq than the 7709.

How well do the volume buttons work?
They work very well.
Why does mine not allow me to click on screen mirroring ?
You need a phone capable of on screen mirroring through the output cable of the phone. Not many phones are capable of this.
Can you get a simple remote to operate volume
As far as I am aware, no there are no wireless remote available for this model.
You said android auto is wired only? So it's not Bluetooth?
The radio has Bluetooth, but Android Auto and CarPlay are wired only on this radio, No wireless version of either on this model.
Why does it have a gps antenna if it doesn’t have navigation?
They use the GPS antenna for navigation accuracy, and location based feature accuracy (for navigation in CarPlay or Android Auto for example)
Can't figure out why the hdmi doesn't work
I used an Apple HDMI adapter which had an USB connector for power. The Amazon adapter clone did not work.
Buy a better HDMI cable.
Didn’t even go into the audio functions
Agreed, but because it was an initial review, and we had no audio outputs connected, we didn't go into them. Thanks for watching!
No puedo conectarme com mirroring
Si
Slow to boot up?
No, these are actually quite fast with the new processors they added to them
too bad they downgraded the menu. The menu system is from 2015.
