Appreciate your video. I just installed the unit with the CMOS HD camera. Turned it on and no image from camera. Totally bummed and then remembered you pointing out having to switch the default video setting to HD. Bingo-beautiful image. You sved me so much grief! Thank you!!!!
Hello. Nice videos. Wanted to know if you could assist me. I am looking for the highest end 7” double din headunit. I really would like CD/DVD capability, but would be willing to give it up if the unit I was looking at had other good attributes instead. I was comparing the DDX9907XR with the DMX958XR; I am leaning toward the 9907. Can you tell me which would be higher end and which one I should pick between the 2? Build quality and sound quality difference between these 2? Should I consider another headunit other than these 2? Thanks.
Hi John, you should be looking at the following receivers: Kenwood Excelon DDX9907XR Kenwood Excelon DNX997XR lockdownsecuritycanada.ca/collections/multimedia-receivers?sort=price-descending&_=pf&pf_v_brand=Kenwood%20Excelon&pf_t_cd_dvd_support=CD%2FDVD_Yes Both of these have CD/DVD, but the DNX997XR has GPS Navigation built in. THe DNX997XR has the exact same features as the DMX958XR, but with CD/DVD and Garmin navigation built in. Email us at sales@lockdownsecurity.ca, I can work you a deal on the DNX997XR if you want it.
So I’m buying my brother a stereo for his Lexus RX 400h and this is probably my top. Being that it is 8 months since the initial review, do you still recommend this is a top of the line HD receiver? Anything else I should be comparing it to?
The DMX958XR is still one of the top receivers we recommend from the name brands. It offers the best of everything, and it looks like it will continue as the current model through 2024 as well.
Great Video. When you demo the Camera features, can you cover what options you get with 4 cameras installed? Curious to see if you get the 360 overhead view (or something similar) like newer cars have
No you do not get any extra functions with 4 cameras, the 4 cam inputs are just that, inputs that separately display up to 4 camera images, one at a time.
I bought one of these and noticed it has what looks like LEFT/RIGHT subwoofer pre outs. But they don't fade at all. So are they really left/right? Or are they both just the same output? Summed left/right bass?
The sub pre-out is also known as a non fading output, it is not controlled via the fade control, The sub output (pre-outs) are controlled by the SUB-OUT settings through the radio audio menu. There is no ability to balance left or right, just ability to turn the sub-preout on/off, adjust level, along with adjust frequency.
I just bought this receiver and 2 cameras! Can’t wait to install it in my new 2006 C6 convertible Vett! Question, can you reverse that front high HD camera? I wound up getting the 720 and a 480 because I didn’t see where the 720 is a front reversible camera
The CNOS-740HD, as far as I am aware ,can only be used as a front cam on the 10.1" receivers, like DMX1037, DMX1057XR, and DNR1007XR, DNR1008XR. On the DMX958XR, he CMOS-740HD can be used as a rear camera only.
1. Is the e-brake input grounded, or connected to the parking brake switch? 2. Are you using the HDMI to Lighting adapter FROM Apple (must be genuine Apple to work)?
Can this camera be used as the front with the ability to flip the image? The 958xr manual does not show the option to mirror any camera images. If not what camera can be used for front?
I was told by Kenwood that the CMOS-740HD won't work with the front cam output because the 958XR cannot reverse the image signal. Has anyone successfully used the 740 on the front cam with the 958XR? I ordered the 230 and a 740, but I'd much rather have two 740s.
The CMOS-740HD is only compatible for front camera, on the 10.1" screens from Kenwood (DMX137S, DMX1058XR, DNR1008XR, DNR1008RVS). The DMX958XR does not have the capability to reverse the image for the front cam input, so this is why the CMOS-740HD will not work on it. It will "work" but the image will be reversed
If you can find a DMX957XR for less than the DMX958XR then no issues doing so, I would say the DMX958XR might be slightly faster in terms of processor inside (less lag on touch screen response) but honestly, they are essentially the same radio
Hi I seen it has the weather? Does it show the weather forecast ? And weather radar with weather alerts 🚨? Does does it have traffic information as well ? From inrix ?
It shows weather when you have a phone with internet connection paired to the receiver. No weather alerts, and no INRIX traffic info, as far a sI know INRIX is a Pioneer brand feature only.
Both offer amazing sound quality outputs, we have not compared both and honestly, we are not a Sony ES dealer, but I think the ES might have the superior sound output as it is specifically designed around this purpose. With that being said, the DMX958XR is part of the Excelon lineup, so high voltage 5 volt pre-outs are standard, and sound quality is one of it's selling points,
Carplay is not updateable on it's own, any updates would come through a firmware update by Kenwood. You must visit Kenwood's website and obtain the update file, then, load the file on a USB key and follow the update instructions on Kenwood's website (this is IF there is an update available).
DMX958XR for anyone who wants the higher res screen, and fancier navigation. XAV-AX6000 for anyone who wants plain, simple, functionality. Both are awesome radios, my preference between the two is the DMX958XR.
For the same money you purchase a Android had unit with a 4K display toslink audio out 5G SIM card support Wi-Fi 6 built-in 1 TB hard drive you run full Microsoft Office apps support for up to 4 displays HDMI 2.1. here you have Kenwood is basically selling a device with The processing power of $100 cell phone
The question of quality, not always quantity comes up. Yes for the money there are options out there with WAY more functionality, but will those options work without quirks, or even work at all after 1 year, is the question. What you get from name brand receivers, is no quirks, and reliability for years.
Appreciate your video. I just installed the unit with the CMOS HD camera. Turned it on and no image from camera. Totally bummed and then remembered you pointing out having to switch the default video setting to HD. Bingo-beautiful image. You sved me so much grief! Thank you!!!!
We had the EXACT same issue, spent like 15 minutes before filming the video determining the solution.
Thanks for the video. I just ordered both to install in my Corvette.
This looks like a really great headunit. Definitely going to add it to my list of considerations!
I just ordered mine. August 2024

@@LockdownSecurity I got the LP version which is for the back. (License plate)
What’s better Kenwood 958XR or 9708s , looking to buy the best audio option and best Apple car play
The DMX958XR is the superior model between the 9708S. Both are great radios, but the 958XR is better
Hi I’m trying to use hdmi for iPhone but constantly getting the no signal, any info ?
No, it cannot be used on the front. You would need to upgrade to the DMX1057XR to use it on the front
You don't get those guides with the rear view camera? its just video?
Guide lines can be generated by the camera (if it is equipped with this feature) or by the radio (the radio guidelines can be turned on and off)

@@LockdownSecurityya that is what I saw also. It’s the only drawback. I bought the less resolution 480 Kenwood HD camera for the front. It is HD
Hey, in the vid you say not much has changed. Is it worth picking the dmx958xr over the dmx957xr? If so, for what reason? Thanks!

So what differs from the previous model dmx957?
Not much to be honest, other than the part number.
The 958 is shorter front to back. It also has USB-C with higher power to charge phones, while the 957 has USB-A and lower power
It does NOT support Wireless High Resolution, but it can play back files under 4GB.
Thanks
This vs the Sony 9000ES?

does this have the tilting screen like the dnx997xr?
This radio has an optical (virtual) tilting screen, but not a motorized tilting screen.
What is the 10+ inch equivalent of this one?
The DMX1057XR, linked to here: lockdownsecuritycanada.ca/products/kenwood-excelon-dmx1057xr
what about hooking the antenna up in a volvo
lockdownsecuritycanada.ca/pages/contact-us
Does this have a cd player or DVD drive?
No it does not have CD/DVD, digital media only
