Nice overview. It would be neat if you could show how it integrated to a particular vehicle so that we can see how that particular car's infomation integrates. For example, a car's external temperature or compass that would normally appear on the factory screen.
I understand it comes with a microphone. Can’t you just use the OEM microphone in the car if it has one which mine does. Also, must you disable CarPlay using an iPhone then you would be able to mirror the screen or can you mirror the screen without disabling CarPlay?
Great Review! I installed this last week, good unit some MAJOR FLAWS!, 8:00 mark you will see the radio options, for the radio the presets FM01 / FM02 tells the user NOTHING it should at 88.1 FM01, 89.5 FM02 this way in (minimized display mode, the default mode) you can see the station and not FM01 / FM02 etc . Also if using 3 radios sources AM/FM/XM it would be nice to have all these presets amalgamated not separated. AND FOR MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT , using the Maestro Rr2 when I'm using my steering wheel to go through the stations, the controls only control a seek to the next closet station NOT MY PRESETS!!! WTF. I would have to manually touch the screen activate the BAND (AM FM XM) which would only control this band's presets EXPAND the TEXT into Maximized display mode (for AM and FM) only so I can see what's the actual station number and then manually using the touch screen select this preset. THIS IS NOT CONTROLLABLE THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. Another complaint I have is the when playing from USB the player only has fast forward and rewind, NO PROGRESS BAR on my pas units I could using the touch screen select anywhere on the progress bar to jump to this section of the song / mix. IF you have a 1 hour mix this is helpful. The display is also clunky looking could use improvement or "skins" . The sound quality is good, knowing now about these dislikes I would have likely purchased a different unit.
I just purchased this exact radio, I am wondering about connecting the vss wire for clarity on the maps. I believe with the GPS antenna, I don't have to worry about connecting it because I can not find it on my 2011 Silverado. It is the vehicle speed sense wire.
Did you ever start to use the HDMI for any kind of fire stick or anything? Were you able to use a generic HDMI cable? Or does this have to have kenwoods 55$ cable I bought a Best Buy micro HDMI and I get no signal for my fire stick. I can’t believe they actually make it proprietary HDMI just to lockout using any other one.
I haven't tried the HDMI yet, didn't know you could hook up a Firestick, I have a Firestick and I will try it this weekend. I have a generic adapter. The hands free connection keeps disconnecting and re-connecting for some reason.
@@MrSpike0358 I’ve learned a bit about this unit last few days . The hdmi will work with any device fire stick, Roku, etc.. If you wanna screen mirror for an iPhone you absolutely have to use the AV in get the apple type c to av adapter along with I-simple media links ishd01 and ca-c3av connect all 3 and it mirrors to the kenwoods for any thing good way to watch media without hotspot in the car .
My radio is stating needs to be update and I'm struggling in the process of doing that. Can you create a video on how to update it. Mind you now this radio did not come with the car from the dealer I paid someone to install it 16:00 4 years ago
I have this unit and I’m totally frustrated as I can’t get the background photos to load properly with the Kenwood portal app. I’ve tried ALL sizes of photos and they’re TOO LARGE. They won’t fill the screen like they should 🤬 Any ideas on how to make it work? Thanks..
Have you purchased any HDMI cable and tried the HDMI input with like a fire stick yet? I bought a micro HDMI from Best Buy Not getting any video signal on HDMI and my parking wire is grounded to a toggle Has anybody tried this unit with screen mirroring with an iPhone?
I have the same issue with my JVC kw-m875. Crutchfield suggested I try adjusting the "aspect ratio" setting under screen adjust but that did not help. If I mirror my phone it displays photos perfectly but the background images are always ZOOMED in, no matter what size they are - like you said. I made a few that are 800x480 because that's the resolution of the screen but they're messed up too. Actually, it does it to it's own built in static background images. I was going to exchange my JVC for this unit because I thought Kenwood would be better but now I'm not going to because apparently they're not. So thanks for the heads up. I'm going to TRY calling JVC but I don't have high hopes.
I love how thorough you are. Thank you.
Not sure how you explained something that seems impossible to explain in those sounds settings but I got it! Very awesome!

Thank you, short and sweet review with all the good stuff.
I have the Excelon model I like it
Whats the difference between this and the dmx958xr

Does this one adjust the viewing angle does the screen move to different angles?
The screen does not move, but is does have digital angle adjustments. I have no problem seeing screen at a slight angle in my 2011 silverado.

My door chime and blinker are loud now. Any way to lower it? Seems like with all those options there’s gotta be a way.
Great video bro

Kenwood has bad ass double din
Alpine user interface look nicer but sound quality is better on Kenwood.
Thanks!
