If I was Edu I would sign Sesko. I would take risk from him because we probably won't get Isak because we dont want to pay £120M. I would take Hato for the bench. I would sign FDJ or Guimares. Add then also sign Olise or Nico Williams.

The thing is, yes: they would improve us. They would give us depth and alternatives which we don't have now. Think of Anelka; think of Vieira. They were 18 and 21 years of age respectively in 1997. Think of Alex Ferguson being told that, "You don't win anything with kids". Well, it turns out that if you're good enough you're old enough (Michael Owen, Rooney, Fabregas, Saliba, etc). If these kids don't block our own coming through - I'm thinking of Nwaneri - and give depth and flexibility, then that could be the difference. Fine margins, remember?

The people you're describing belong to the same class as younger Foden, Saka, Haaland, Pedri, Bellingham, Musiala and to a lesser extent Wirtz and Gavi.
Sesko, Hato and Neves are very talented but are still nowhere near as good as the players I just mentioned.
Don't get me wrong, I do agree with you but I don't agree with signing projects to fill in for the gaps in our first team(Sesko and Neves for example).
We need to buy depth that are better in quality than the depth we already have because aside from Tomiyasu and Trossard/Martinelli our depth is either not the correct profile or not good enough to be relied upon.

The thing about no depth I disagree on. As good as Arteta is, he is not good at utilizing players across the season. Mainly uses the same ones, and then when he feels like he needs to use new players, they are out of form and don’t preform. And people start saying those players aren’t good enough.
Alex Ferguson was a master of this. Always keeping every player sharp across a season, so that when he needed to introduce a bench player in the late stages of a season, they were ready.
I reckon we buy 4 players this season, and people will again say we lack depth in 9-12 months..

Real was a UCL winning side that added Bellingham this season, Mbappe next season and has players like Endrick on the pipeline. I think we need players with huge ceilings or titles will actually get further away.
I think that if we are to match City/Real squads we will need to stack Odegaard/Saka/Saliba/Rice level players and I honestly think it's easier to get them at 18-20 when aren't quite there yet than convince their teams to sell them when after everybody knows what they are capable of (in another timeline where Palmer was loaned instead of sold to Chelsea, the 1 year experience he got at chelsea would've made him unnegociable). We won't be getting players like Rice all the time, he was only gettable because he broke through at west ham instead of Chelsea and even then we almost got into a dark timeline where he would be at Man City.
As I see it, experience is closer to a tiebreaker than a requirement and since the players with experience + high ceiling are rarely gettable the situation is that for the most part I think our best chance to match Real/City squad involve young targets. With a concrete example: Watkins and Isak are better transfer targets than Sesko, (all high ceiling, Sesko much more raw) but Lukaku is not a better transfer target even though he is much more experienced and ready to contribute next season because he has 0% chance to reach the "Real Madrid/Man City/Bayern starter" level that we need to be stocking up on.

  • @danbar97

I think the goal of this Arsenal transfer window is raising the floor, not the ceiling. We've seen this season that we have a good enough side to contend for titles, Arsenal's lack of depth is a more obvious issue. We should move on alot of dead wood and not try to interrupt the flow of the starting 11. Instead, we should try and look for long term additions for some obvious backbones at the club, (CB, CDM and RW come to mind)

I don't know that I agree with the sentiment that we need the "ready made" players now. Mikel doesn't like signing players that are later in their development, or at their peak. He likes players that he can shape, for his system, and that can play numerous positions. Our team is still young, but they ARE experienced. They can mentor the young guys coming in. It also feels like we're getting players we don't have in the academy and aren't going to sacrifice the development of Nwaneri for. He's building multigenerational cores.

Also, I think is worth considering that assuming we beat Everton, these players HAVE actually "been there and done it" in terms of showing everything required to win a title mentally, game management-wise, tactically and technically. The villa loss may count as the difference this season, but we will begin next season the way we ended this season, and I think people will be surprised at the pace of our title challenge.

Now... we can go for more established players like Bruno Guimaraes and others, who would definitely help us win the league, BUT, it won't help us sustain a tile challenges year in year out. We need future generation players to come in or be on the verge of breaking into the first 11. Remember... this is how the project started. It was players like Smith-Rowe that kept Ozil on the bench. We have to keep the next generation at a high level so that we have longevity in our performance every year. Otherwise we will be like the Invincibles and just fall away.

good video as always. the question is what kind of experience do you want the players to bring with them? The Age isn´t always the only truth. I want either players who have Champions League experience or players who have won many titles or players who are young, maybe the best talents in their position with an winning mentality like a Jede Bellingham or in my opinion also a Timber and a Declan Rice who were leaders in their teams. But when we look at the market I don't see the players from the first two categories. Maybe a Joshua Kimmich but that's it, so the way with this highclass talents who can maybe improve with their tasks too can step in and look like improvements for this year too. I´m very excited what is coming with transfers and maybe the league. Thank you for your content and sorry for my englisch i hope you can understand haw i mean it. Love from Germany

I can't WAIT to see Nwaneri get more minutes, it's crazy how composed he is already.

I do feel like leadership and experience we do have in abundance. It’s hard because we could go out and splash on the likes of oshimen. Yet for that same price could potentially wrap up 2/3 stars with huge potential. I think arteta really does like what he has, just needs more trust in his bench players. He has no trust in ESR, viera, and even lost trust in Eddie. Don’t believe he really even fancies Jesus as a 9 anymore. Whatever happens this summer it will strengthen our squad depth and I’m sure give us something exciting to change games that need that something different

Sesko is not a false 9 like Havertz, Sesko rarely comes to the first third or second third of the pitch. He is a target man player who is surprisingly quick and a good dribbler in tight spaces. Also, he has been overperforming his xG for the past 4 seasons (being 80th in xG and 97th in non penalty goals) his finishing is incredible in the box.
As if he will start or not, I don't know, he is certainly better than Nketiah, and could offer us more presence in the box against low blocks. I could see Havertz starting up front in big games and Sesko coming in against low block teams or coming in as a sub.

I guess what Aubameyang was right about Arteta not being able to manage elite experienced players. Starting 11 is a bit younger but the narrative that Arsenal had a young squad is actually false. Tottenham’s squad under Pottenchino from 14/15 to 18/19(23.7, 22.7, 22.7, 23.8, & 27.1) was a lot younger so generally I don’t think it’s a valid excuse & I don’t believe in excuses in all aspects of life especially football

Am cognisant of the fact that as an Arsenal fans i want results yesterday(considering that Leverkusen done it), BUT realise too that the dynamics in the Bundesliga are different(Bayern's dip in form too), even as i aknowledge that leverkusen were VERY consistent. My take is, keep Partey(his injuries are cause for worry,BUT when he's fit he's a giant in the 6), try get in Bruno G, or Zubimendi. Also Get Hato(who can back up CD n FB(also think he could easy slot into the 6 too). Have cover for Timber at LB(which has been our Achellis heel this season(Ferdi) n get a striker(Gyokeres) of different profile to Harvetz, PLUS replace Nketiah(think he's had his chance, n keeping on the bench is stifling his development) with Sesko from the proceeds of his (Nketiah's) sell with some on the top. How I wish Ramsdale wouldn't move on n develop his feet too(BUT suspect those around him will push in the hope that regular game time will sharpen him n give him England's No. 1 jersey). Though IF he opts to go(for good money) an able replace should be sought. Would wish for Saka to get an option(for ALL eventualities) n think Olise, Nico W., n or Neto. ALL this is of course subject to the FFP/PSR Rules n the possibility of moving fringe players for the replacements.

Hato I like. We have Tommy and Kiwior and Zinchenco but none are fixed starters, so bringing a young prospect to learn from the 3 and build your next perfect lb for this system in a year or 2, perfectly fine as we are comfortable with what we have.
Sesko is more a luxury signing if you will, hes raw and an athlete and most importantly an out and out Finisher, but Havertz and Jesus do the job perfectly well. If Jesus does leave then its more feasible for me personally
If we're looking price wise, I believe Sesko has a €70m release clause, so jesus leaving funds that mostly, maybe need 20m ontop of the sale.
De Jong would be about €50-€70m as Barca need the cash and are willing to sell him, so lets say the top end, and thats now €90m of budget.
Hato I have no clue, but i suppose you look at Martinez and Timber prices, and €50 seems reasonable. So thats €140m or £120m.
That leaves £80m if we are going off a £200m budget like its expected. I like the idea of Sczesney to replace Ramsdale. Might be wrong but that adds to our homegrown quota as he started here? Really not sure tho. And then Bowen (preferably for the same Quota), or Kudus to backup Saka.
Yes this is very opionionated, and prices could be well off, but I think its achievable and would be amazing for next year.

Gyokeres £85 Million (ST), Pedri £80 Million (CM) Pedro Neto £50 Million (RW) Murillo £40 Million (LB/CB) are the quality signings needed in those positions. Sell ZInchenko, Nketiah, Nelson, Smith Rowe, Tierney, Lokonga, Tavares etc. Thiago Almada at Atlanta Utd would be a steal at £20 Million, Keep Partey for one more season and replace him summer 2025.

This is an excellent list and I agree with your proposed sales - except Smith-Rowe. We could afford Gyorkes and Neto and both are high quality in positions where we're lacking. No way would Barca sell Pedri and he's not who we need (even tho I love him as a player). Instead, buy Leon Goretzka from Bayern who would be an ideal Partey replacement and has a good 3 to 4 years left at the top level. Very high quality player with a warrior spirit. I'd also prefer Leroy Saney to Neto.

Surely at this point when it comes to transfers we have to accept life isn’t fifa and Mikel Arteta, edu etc might know what they are talking about. Their record of making signings and proving the keyboard experts wrong is pretty decent.

At LB, Kadioglu would be better offensively and he aint bad defensively as well. What do y'all think about Timber playing as a CDM though?

We need to improve our bench. Currently only jorginho and martinelli is a good sub. Jesus need to improve or we sell him during the transfer window.

The driving force of the signings must be "do we win the league with this player?" It is not about "improving the squad" everyone will improve. Everyone will be signing new players and rejigging tactics.
This team for two years has been in a position to win the league and not done so. Not only that we have navigated the top 6 very well. But we have drawn and lost to opposition we should've beat. We need to sign players of a level not on potential. Should we win silverware we can add some more projects but success brings you time.
