I had surface pro 7. Loved it. My wife dropped it today and to fix the screen they wanted $250. We ended up going to Best Buy today to buy the pro 9

To be fair 250$ isn’t a bad price, that’s probably around how much it does cost to fix

Thanks so much for making this video.
One of the best videos about the everyday use of the Surface Pro 9.
I bought an SP8, and then the 9 came out - I just returned it and got the 9 because of the chip upgrade.
I should have kept the 8 - it had the headphone jack, and the performance was just as good with a bigger battery.
I do, however love my Surface Pro 9.
It does everything I want, and the battery is surprisingly good for a surface device.
I have had surface devices for years, so have never gotten over battery anxiety.
Like you, I carry around a battery, which I have not used much at all.
I have the i7, which probably had a little worse battery life than yours.
I love what they have done with the SP8 and SP9.
The chip makes it as fast as anything out there, and does everything I need to do well.
Also, I just cannot find a place in my life for any other tablet.
It is small enough to have with me in a backpack or large sling, and I have all the computing I need.
I take it along when I need to go out, and if I find myself on my own for a little - I can catch up on some Netflix or amazon prime video, I can do some design work or even some reading.
Everything I would do with any tablet.
It tethers to my phone without a hitch, and I don't notice any speed degradation there.
It is the perfect machine for on-the-go computing, and it works for me.
Your video demonstrates that well and makes me think I am not alone. 🙂
The question - does it compete with the other best computing device out there - the MacBook Air 13(M1) or 14 (M2).
    The price is similar.
Also, does it compete with the iPad Pro M1 12.9.
I think the iPad is an entirely different machine, and if you want an iPad - you probably want an iPad.
However, the MacBook Air is a reasonable comparison as a person might just want a computer.
As a general-purpose computer, it holds its own against the MacBook air 13(M1).
It doesn't stand up too well against the MacBook Air 14(m2).
However, it wins on portability and cost.
With the MacBook, you have to shell out for something else if you want a tablet.
With the surface, you don't, AND you have all the PC chops you need.
I toyed with getting the Samsung galaxy Tab S9Ultra ....but for what?
I have the SP9 - what could I do with an Android device that I cannot do on the SP9.
Nothing that I need to do. Just NOTHING. I did the comparison.
It really is the everyone and everyday PC.
Thanks again for the video - you also did a great job with the editing.
The writing was clear, and the delivery was memorable and informative - I really loved it.

I want to buy new laptop,
Is it worth to buy sp9 rather than laptop ?
I mean, I probably will use ms. Office for work.
People say, there are some fuction or tools that do not include on the tablet in ms word.
Like if the tools/fuction if ms is 100% complete in laptop, Then if its in tablet only 90% tools. Is it true ?
And the thing I want to be sure.
Is SP9 really has the very same function as laptop ?
I hope you understand my question.
      Sorry for the terrible english.
I'm waiting for your answer. Thank you

I just bought this device for work, as a software engineer. I'm using the i7, and I can only say I'm extremely happy with it. It's so light and portable, but still very comfortable to work long hours on in my lap (yes, lap, with the stand extended).
The performance has been sublime so far; I haven't managed to push the CPU to its limit despite lots of development work with very heavy programs running, including virtualization.
The screen is lovely, and it's super nice to have it as a tablet when not typing.
Battery level is very impressive. I couldn't ask for more, and it's been a long time since I was this happy with something I bought.

@@Sarfansarif02 Yeah I love it! It suits me very well. I also have a full desktop, but this is perfect for me as a portable device, and I find myself working from the couch for hours with this thing in my lap. Depends on the kind of work you do ofc but it has no problems with running multiple IDE's, virtualized web apps with databases etc locally. If anything, it's limited by its 16gb of RAM. But if you can stay below that, it's a great experience.
I really love the screen about it. Delightful for coding, sharp and good contrasts.

They need to add replaceable battery and make it easier to repair. My surface pro 3 died, had it fixed once. Lasted a year then died again. Not fixing it again or buying another till they make it easier to repair. Total life span of surface pro 3 was 6 years (with fixing once), compare that to my old hp netbook, which I believe is going strong 12 or 13 year old

Good laptop, but I hope microsoft will also continue with surface book like lineups, because with a stiff hinges of surface book I can work on spaces like bus or train seat with keyboard attached without the need of a kickstand (which is incovinient to use on my lap), and later in meeting with friends, family etc, I can detach the screen for a relaxed use as a tablet. The current 2 in 1 line ups are for best use either on table with a kick stand as a tabletop or on hands as a tablet.

Thanks for the very detailed video. You covered a lot of ground in 9 minutes!
I was surprised when you said the SP9 struggled with 4K video editing. As my iPad can handle it, I kind of assumed the SP would be powerful enough. I am leaning towards buying a SP8, with 16GB of RAM. ebay has lots of new ones, still.
It is worth mentioning that although you can change the SSD, you pay a premium for the 2230 size SSD [$200-ish for 1TB], You can get a longer one, like the 2280 [$100-ish for 2TB], for a quarter of the price of the 2230. I'd say adding an external drive is much more economical...and you don't have to re-install Windows!

    • @Walkop
      @Walkop Год назад +4

There's a few reasons for this. MacOS/iOS video editing software has great hardware acceleration, always had. Not exactly sure what it is but the editing software has been superior for many years. Second - M1/M2 has ludicriously powerful GPU cores compared to Iris Xe graphics. I believe they're more than twice as powerful while using less power.
Mainly because Intel is stuck on a 10nm node while Apple is using 5nm...the fact Intel has been able to put out devices that even remotely compete with ARM and Apple is actually the most impressive thing. They're using technology that Apple had access to *literally 6 years ago*.
When AMD makes a product that Microsoft will use for mobile, or Intel finally gets to a 5nm node or similar node to TSMC etc, then we'll see some truly great competition.

WiFi is constantly disconnecting if I have a Bluetooth mouse connected to my SP9. If I charge it via usb-c, the keyboard's touchpad acts as if the sensitivity is massively reduced or becomes unresponsive altogether for a few moments. Pretty annoying. The 120Hz screen looks pretty but that's about it. To be able to fully enjoy it, almost, I have to keep the power profile on 'Best performance', otherwise scrolling pretty much everywhere is a stuttery mess. Or you can't really tell the difference is you compare it to a 60Hz display. That decreases the battery life, but it's the only way to have a smoother experience. To those who own a SP8 or later, try moving a windows around. Open a File Explorer windows, for instance, and drag it around the screen. Does it look smooth? I think not. I locked my PC's monitor to 120Hz and tried the same thing and 120Hz is buttery smooth. On my SP9, it looks terrible. Dynamic refresh rate is also off because it's pure trash. The fan starts spinning and when it does, it really does. You will hear it. Even if you have hearing problems.
Anyway, for those wanting to buy one, I'd try to at least get the SP11, with the Oled panel. The one on the SP8, 9, and probably 10 will suffer from the crap I mentioned above. It's not something that can be fixed. The panel is just of an inferior quality, and smoothness is also something that cannot be well optimized, even for Microsoft's own devices. They discriminate everyone else otherwise. You can also call it dev laziness.
The SP9 is therefore an expensive device, with a lot of problems. If you don't care about what I said above, try it and you might think differently.

Hi there GH, mad respect from India, here the i5 and the i7 models are separated by a whopping premium of $500, although I am not a very power hungry user, or a content creator, just a researcher....still when I do research, I can have in excess of 20 tabs open and a few excel, word and Pdfs open... I have an Xbox and hence gaming is not a need at all with this device....I still rock a MacBook Pro i5 8th Gen with Touch Bar, which seems to be failing on me anytime soon, it has gotten sluggish especially after the latest Ventura Update, I am done with Macs and I always wanted a surface for the longest time I remember.....although getting an M1 or an M2 makes a lot of sense, I am asking you honestly, If I were to switch to a Surface, would this be a good year to do so...? I am eyeing the i5 12th intel model with the keyboard and pen that costs roughly $1800....Please Advise!

Hey there. I have the i7 in both the SP9 and the SLS, and in your shoes, I would wait. The SP9 is fantastic and hits all the spots, BUT MS is about to launch a new SP next year with the latest Intel and Qualcomm chips. Qual on have fi ally got wi down on arm work g like Windows on Intel. That means better battery life and better computing. This will be a revolutionary and not evolutionary step.
If you can, I recommend waiting for g.
Usually, I would never recommend waiting as there will always be a better machine around the corner, but on this occasion, the difference will be so stark, that it might just pay to wait.

What does the ROG give you that the surface wouldn't?
I understand it is faster and has the discrete GPU, but in everyday computing - how does it fare.
I am an SP9 user and love it, but I am not challenging your choice. I really want to know what the ROG device gives. It does not have to be a comparison - I haven't encountered anyone who got that machine instead of a surface, and I am interested in how that is going and what you love about it.
      Any thoughts would be appreciated.
