This was a brilliant idea and well executed. I found myself getting a bit lost to be honest though. The matte control node is a new one for me and I would have liked a little detail on what an earth it is for :) Dissolve node too though that sort of became obvious :) Thanks again for the vid.
Thanks for the feedback, mate. Yes, I am still trying to find a happy medium between keeping the videos reasonably short and providing value. I might have erred on not being too in depth this time. Let me try to explain the Matte Control node here. It is a very flexible node that is ususally used for Keying green screens. It gives you options for edge refinement, masking, spill control, and as we used in this video, for masking. The reason I used this node is becuase, usually in resolve you mask on a node (using the blue triangle), but here I wanted to mask across all existing content. So, think of this as a way to add a mask "over all layers". The Dissolve node, as you may have figured out, "dissolves" the content between two nodes. We needed a second background node to input into the dissolve to give it a second node to dissolve into. The SMPTE wipe is a standard industry transition that was defined in the film days, and it is a transition type that's available in most of the editing and compositing softwares, albeit they might call it different names. Again, I appreaciate your feedback and thanks for watching both videos! :)
@@coffeebeanstudio Thank you for the detailed explanation. I really appreciate that. Thanks! I found I really enjoy the fusion tab but there are still lots of nodes I didn't know existed. I also get that it is difficult to pitch the detail right especially considering your audience have different requirements. I struggle with this myself on my own videos. For me, I like it when there is a little detail on the less obvious stuff but others things differently. I am sure you'll find the right level that suits your audience. Thanks for making the videos, I enjoyed them both.

I don't know if you mentioned this in the video or not, but I found that the top rectangle kept showing the fast noise lines even after the dissolve wipe animated back. I was able to fix this though by clicking on the merge node and setting the Operator to Atop. Now the fast noise dissolves with the rest of the rectangle. I don't know if that's what you ended up doing, but it would have been nice if you could have pointed it out. Regardless, I love this tutorial and I'd love to see more tutorials on motion design if you can.
