I mostly agree that they should have implemented a level scaling system, but a SIMPLE level scaling system is not a perfect solution either. This is bc players would not be able to challenge themselves by taking a harder path. The ideal solution is to implement a level scaling system but still have some battles be higher level than others regardless of the number of badges you have. For example, the level of the gym leaders will go up with the number of badges you have but Ryme will always be 3-5 levels higher than larry.

This is when the yearly releases finally caught up to them. People love to cry "unfinished" because of no Battle Frontier or expansive post-game, or because of Dexit. That's just a game having a lack of content you specifically want. THIS is what an unfinished game ACTUALLY looks like. Something being held together with spit and one drop of hot glue.
It's a shame too. I got Violet and it's some of the most fun I've had. I even started team building for competitive, something I've never done before.

I wouldn't let them off the hook so completely. I am a former game dev, and I find it mind boggling just how amateurish this game is. 11 months to make an open world switch game is crazy, but small teams have done far more with far less. I've seen university projects with 6 devs and ~10 months of development which, with about 3 or 4 more months in the cooker, would have been at this point. So I consider them to have the equivalent manpower of 9 competent but inexperienced developers, to judge by what they produced. But this is one of the oldest and most profitable franchises: they should be a sizable team with a huge amount of experience. Something is *very* wrong, I believe, on all levels.

I'll just say it outright: I don't see voice acting coming to the mainline games with the current way operations are run. Even with just English and Japanese, I do think that it would add too much organisational overhead. Who to voice and who not to left aside, you still need a localised translation somewhat earlier than you do now. Which will likely come with its own share of issues. But Pokémon is built on mass appeal, so only two voiced languages probably won't be enough. And once one European language (aside from English) is voiced, you have to do the others.
I'd love to see it, but I'll only believe it when it happens.

One thing that bothers me with the story is how it feels like Scarlet was the basis of the game and Violet was made afterwards. Since Koraidon feels more believable with eating food, licking people, and being territorial. And the idea of a ride pokemon being better with Miraidon since it actually uses reasonable transportation methods. And one thing I really dislike in this game is the Tera raids, they are so uninteresting and buggy. I don’t know how they even let that out in the state it is in and think people wouldn’t care or complain about it. I really like this game, but besides comp there isn’t much to do after beating the finale which really sucks, hopefully there will be more interesting things to do in the future like with SwSh

I think we can all agree that they should stop yearly releases. At most I’d be fine with DLC for Scarlet and Violet, BDSP, Legends Arceus, and/or even Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee rather than a new game for 2023-2024. The state of SV upon release is proof of that.

The line lays somewhere in-between, imo. Nintendo/gamefreak/whathaveyou has the resources for us to receive excellent new games as well as remasters. Yet clearly they haven't been able to use those resources effectively. If it means substantially better games, I'm happy to wait. I just think they have the resources to give us both meaningful sequels as well as great sequels/remakes. The difference between ORAS and BDSP is borderline vomit inducing, but the existence of ORAS itself proves they can give us both. We buy whatever they feed us, so it's plenty possible that has led to complacency on the development end.

SV fixed a lot of the issues I had with recent Pokemon games to be honest. Pokemon was always the type of game to me that let's me "make my own story" so to speak - the types of mons you add to your team, the blank slate character, the very sparcely told story. All of that helped in me feeling like I'm making my own adventure all through Gen1 to 3 - and even 4 and 5 still had this. It also made the games very replayable. As the games got more and more scenes to flesh out other characters though, that vastly decreased - Gen7 is the peak of this problem for me and SwSh actually kind of held back on it. SV, however, is the first Pokemon game that somehow manages to have the unbstructive story of the first couple gens married with characters I actually care about. Arven's story was great, and the Team Star members, as clumsily as their story is told, all had some element I could latch onto. That's leaps and bounds beyond other Pokemon games.
Coupled with the fact that you can catch a huge variety of mons at any point and especially at the start, these games really are everything I need from a Pokemon game and as someone who thought he was finally growing out of it, that's a pretty great feeling. It's just a shame the games feel incredibly rushed in other areas. In a perfect world, this generation would have had another year or so to iron out the tech issues and add actual interior to houses, but I guess corporate be corporate. I'm just surprised how much they managed to overhaul in the tight time frame.

I like battle crazy Nemona, she is one of my favourite rivals so far tbh.
I think it would be an amazing feature if we could rebattle her with her different teams and competitive strategies, like, give her a rain or sand team, a double battle tatsugiri and the big one, and maybe one with Pokemon from other regions only. That would mean a bit more work, but in my opinion it would make for such an entertaining feature that would keep people going back to the game even after they finish what they want to do.
I actually quite like all of the side characters we got this generation

My experience with PKMN will forever not be bizarre, because of how I mostly know about it from the anime and its fans. I've tried the games multiple times, and usually dropped them; with emerald being the only one I've gotten close into. I wouldn't really consider myself a fan, yet I still find myself enjoying the designs and even knowing about what's going on in the community (as much as that knowledge is usually forced onto me).
So, watching this video was pretty damn interesting, because it does kinda confirm that these games do seem to be great, but were have issues due to being rushed out way too hard bc of typical business shit. Kinda sucks, cause that seem to also be the same thing that ended up happening with another pretty major release (Sonic Frontiers).
Anyway, I would be lying if I didn't want to buy this game, especially after hearing the praise it has gotten. I just fear that i'll end up falling back on that PKMN curse of mine and just drop it halfway through.

I don't think flat level scaling is a good idea. I'd have it be a base level that's slightly higher for the ones further up the progression ladder if you wanted to go ahead and do a harder one first. Let's say that the second gym leader has a flat level of 13 unlike the first one which was 8. With level scaling, you can go to the higher one for slightly higher difficulty, but then the previous one gets bumped up to the same level with scaling.

Many of the JoJo characters wear their uniforms as their main outfits for the whole series
Josuke wears several pins, leaves the top part unbuttoned and a yellow shirt with two zippers underneath
Okuyasu straight up doesn't even use the school blazer, just something that kinda resembles it and attaches several different pins as well, he even wears two separate belts that serve no purpose other than looking cool
Jotaro doesn't even bother buttoning his blazer at all and he also wears a belt just for the purpose of it looking cool... Oh, and yeah, he also snapped the 8-link golden chain to the collar for no reason other than, again, looking cool
There's also the simpler ones, like Kakyoin just wearing the cherry earrings, but Pokemon does fine in letting you were hats and stuff
And no, I'm not counting Koichi wearing a uniform with a different color in the anime, that's more to do with Araki not really giving anything a definitive color

One small thing I noticed playing the game is during the path of legends when arven gives mabosstiff a piece of the sandwich he actually breaks off a piece visually and then puts it up to mabosstiff's mouth (this is a 12:39 in the video btw). This isn't all that crazy at first but in SwSh the screen would probably fucking cut to black or something instead of animating it. SwSh had so many moments where the screen would cut to black when something was happening. Towards the end of SwSh sonia had her yamper shock the elevator buttons so they would function but instead of showing yamper moving and using a move on the elevator the screen faded to black, a little sound was played and then it went to normal. Just the fact that they animated something small like a sandwich in Scarlet and Violet vs literally one gen ago when they wouldn't even animate a yamper shocking an elevator or give pokemon a proper turning animation (they just played the pokemon's walking animation while it awkwardly rotated on the spot.) shows how much they were really trying to improve the games in small ways going into gen 9.

Ironically, this dosen't seem like Gamefreak or Nintendo's fault.
    It's The Pokemon Company's.
They refused to delay the merch and media deadlines (the stuff that makes a majority of Pokemon's profit) which required BDSP, PLA and SV to be released in a certain (possibly quarterly) timeframe regardless of the human and reputational cost.
It seems that Gamefreak, Creatures and Nintendo wanted to delay, but TPC pushed the original schedule through anyway, only relenting when they realized the merch and card sales based on PLA would decline if PLA was released as unfinished as it was.
To take a line from biggering:
    If the customers are buying

I still came across a few issues on the overworld (ie: clipping shadows,The frame rate dipping to name a few
To be perfectly I'd say the games are a 5½
The five being the genuine good from the games
Like the 3 stories, Characters,Music, the New monsters and the quality of life improvements with the decent overworld (textures could've used some work though)
While the ½ represents the obvious issues like the performance issues, Glitches (apparently there's a chance for a memory leak as shown with the elite four and Geeta's team) and Kinda little post game with no real way to rematch the league (but that's probably lesser than the others)

My take on scarlet and violet is story-wise it's fairly... safe. It doesn't take much risks or tread new ground that much when it comes to characters or rivals or villain teams. Even without the bugs, it has numerous flaws beyond what you touched on: The region is pretty bland and uninteresting, a wide open sandbox with nothing in it. Characters lack voice acting... still. Pokemon animations and camera work is still very lacking making them feel lifeless. The only real thing I thought was novel was literally something shoved in at the very back end of the game as if Nintendo was embarrassed to include it and sadly as it's included as a one-off encounter it doesn't really carry weight versus if it was something shown midway through the game and expanded during the second half.
Also you ruined my childhood, but not really. Main thing is when I play pokemon fangames, despite their much more limited graphics and scope, they tend to feature stronger more interesting characters and story than most other games. Even the meme game that is Pokemon Clover has a more engaging story and characters.

The moment I saw Legends Arceus I bought it because I saw something different. This one...... ehhhhh kinda ? Still not enough to make me go back to the mainline series. Because even with some of the good stuff this game introduced the stuff that lacked and the obvious performance problems we've seen makes me think "this ain't worth my money" and also that either someone between GF, Pokémon Company and Nintendo needs to realize that they really need to polish this much more. Honestly, I can't really say I liked this game that much. I enjoyed it more than SwSh and maybe Let's Go, but that's about it. It just has so many things would and should be good, but just aren't. The open world gets kinda boring after a bit since it's mainly raids and a bunch of wild Pokémon. Towns are forgettable with just a few exceptions, but they all just feel like pitstops to grab a badge if they have a gym, buy groceries, then leave. Hell, Grushas' Town is just a Gym, not even a little ski lodge nearby. The stories are fine, nothing to write home about, but it works. The fact that their's no semblance of a battle tower in the game almost made me not buy it, only thing keeping my attention after learning about that was Nemona memes, which is funny because with characters like her and Geeta, you'd almost expect to see a battle something around, but no. The new Pokémon are good, though perhaps too good since I was having a hard time picking who I wanted on the team and ended up with 3 teams by the end. Soundtrack was also good, quite a few standout songs. Characters were pretty good, can't say I had a problem with anyone besides the gym leaders. Oddly enough, I didn't expect to like the elite four as much as I did, they're not too important, but they somehow left a good impression on me. The end is the highlight of the game to me, where everything good about the game is cranked up a notch and genuinely shows the potential this game had. It's just a damn shame the rest of the game leading up didn't keep that same quality. It just feels like the good parts of the game get spaced out by a pretty bare bones open world, which oddly enough was the selling point, and the good parts get spoiled by technical issues, leaving me feeling like I'm just wasting my time.

By the time it was becoming more normalized to have nerdy hobbies, the Gameboy devices were too advanced from my memory and still couldn't get back into it (I have difficulty adapting) but also I was in a high school that was very strict on taking away technologies.
Pokémon GO got me back into it but I ended up moving to a rural area with very little pokestops that makes it even harder to play it.

    1. While I'm not bothered by the lack of level scaling, I can see how others would want it. I wouldn't like it if were a 1-to-1 match, though(That would be boring). Making the badges raise it is a good idea.
    2. Voice acting for important scenes would have been nice(I remember a Vtuber voicing Iono while playing the 3rd gym, her voice was a great match).
    3. The Tera-mechanic is fine. Also: Tera-raids have been far less frustrating than Dynamax was for me(Hunting Shiny Tapu Lele in Dynamax Adventures about broke me).
Overall, I'm enjoying the games, but I have noticed how rough its performance is. While I haven't bumped into any particular glitch(Outside of camera adjustment for battles, if that counts), the FPS issue has stuck out. The games would have benefitted from some extra time and/or some extra help that have experience with open world mechanics.
28:42 - 29:15 - I usually don't get that lucky. Although it didn't matter with my choice, Sprigatito; since I had two names ready.
Male: Gadabout , Female: Chloe (After Chloe Sakamata)

My biggest criticism is a combo of the split versions and the dex. They could make more people happy and cull dex(s) if they split versions by regions. SwSh and this gen are totally blurred into one in my mind, but what if that's how they culled the dex? Each region would be locked into their respective dex's and the game wouldn't be pay to win? I can see why they didn't do that lol.

In regerds to those thoughts at the end, I honestly think it's a case where it should be worth the trouble but in retrospect will probably just sound like blown smoke. It's been awhile since I've been on board with a Pokemon generation since it starts and it was only because after seeing the faults of the game in contrast to the amount of units sold it's where I just threw my hands and said "I give up".
To that I think it leads to a terribly nihilistic outlook on the series, especially when I can agree that SV has qualities about it that I think are good. The stories aren't so self indulgent like SM and SwSh, the newer Pokemon designs are (for the most part) refreshing, they did a good job tieing the objectives with the open world albeit with jank balancing. The negatives such as the poor optimization, the lack of stuff to do after the game is gone, the fact that Dexit is just set in stone at this point has just built up to this. The game is pretty close to what I feared Pokemon would become after seeing fans hand wave Dexit, the graphical quality, general pacing and balance issues that SwSh presented which only playing that relatively recently just to get some transfer only mons ready only made me feel reassured on my outlook of that game when it came out.
I'd argue some of these problems were also being built up across BDSP (I know ILCA was mainly responsible but Game Freak still had SOME hands in that games development) and even PLA since whilst praise is commonly given to PLA's general gameplay flow, some aspects of it were still pretty rough (the strong/agile system flow can feel inconsistent at times) along with the art direction coming off pretty muddy due to poor graphical presentation in a good handful of instances.
Would I say it's because Game Freak doesn't care? Not entirely. The only thing I'd say they don't seem to care about is having the proper time and resources that don't exceed a 10 man group. I'm not sure where this philosophy of them came from but I recall that the heads and old guard at Game Freak have a kind of indie complex where they don't want to expand or accomidate for these newer games. With how despite there being new textures on the Pokemon, older mons still use the same ones they had since they were introduced in whatever 3D game they were in (barring some new sleep animations) and particular moves just no longer existing, I do get that they still care but I also can't help but find the indie complex statement all the more eerily convincing.
I'd definitely imagine in a perfect world where the developers had proper time and polish, issues brought up such as dexit, poor graphical textures and performance wouldn't be much of an issue. These are issues that stem from the same stance the notions of these games being rushed come from and as much as things like this get handwaved I honestly can't help but to see actual merrit in bringing them up whenever they do arise.
I like to think I've been a Pokemon fan for over a decade and a half but it's been especially hard to really say much good about recent games and SV is just a bitter reminder that despite the enjoyable aspects, the more problematic aspects are just going to build up more and more.

2:37 That's kinda a ridiculous statement, since the character selection has always been that way since Gen 6 and ditched the "Boy or Girl" bit since Gen 7. Just this time the Hairstyles are no longer Gender Locked. I agree that it was annoying in the past (and Iconic), but now Gamefreak believe we are competent enough to tell which one is Male and Female just by looking, it's not that deep.

You know it’s funny, despite all of its flaws (performance issues, bugs, least than stellar graphics, etc) I honestly enjoyed this installment more than at least the last three main installments of the franchise. It felt like the first meaningful step that the mainline games took in a long time, I wish they had made it a little more like Pokémon Legend: arceus but beside that, I really enjoy my time with this game. I hope with next mainline installment, they further improve the formula

Under all the dirt this games got , i can see something , a GOOD STEP for pokemon .....the issues is that every game and Gen we hear this every single time , good step in this cicler Pokemon walk for years now
We don't want A tier VA, even giblis like in Animal crossing il do , the fact the characters and pokemon have textures , but that's under ghlish grafics that look like a last gen console ... and ps even on Olde is shame issues , if Nintendo announce there do refunds that have to mean something for Pokemon and GF side
And is not just pokemon is every high know IP that still expect to pay 60-70 bucks for less quality ...
And i bet many know that the dev team still treat the IP as indie , i say is not at this scale , this 3 year cicler il eventuly be the downfall of pokemon in a shape or another.
Kamen your not ruin my childhood...

Oh yeah I forgot to say, Idrc if a game has VA or not. I think the power of a game's story is how it presents itself WITHOUT the actors talking. Its why Undertale is so great at storytelling, because the music carries it despite 0 VA. As well, I think that I prefer no VA simply because of the fact that YOU the player control wtf they sound like meaning it could be funny. And in a gaming age in which players have little control, its appreciated.
Also cus...I don't wanna hear "I LIKE YOUR ATTITUDE" or something along those lines being said a bajillion times or the VA being cringe AF

Visual and FPS aside. Man. This game was an absolute blast for me. This game besides PLA. Has made me complete the Pokédex. Which I never did because for me. It was a chore. And story wise. I definitely enjoyed it. I do definitely prefer Nemona over the rivals we had recently in the past. Arven is a sweet boy that needs love. And Penny is relatable. And the final ending at the end. Was a twist that I was glad to see.

Hearing the OP for GX gave me so much PTSD of binging that after my binge of DM, so thanks for that!
Now onto the video, I'm glad that people are enjoying these games, but I was burned hard by Gen 8 and decided to skip this generation so I could just observe from the sidelines.
    Petty, but I know that.
Whenever I saw people talk about these games before release, I could see the pitfalls that GF would fall into, and how things wouldn't go the way people wanted.
"The cat is gonna be on all fours!"
    Nope, it's a furry
"We have an Open world Pokemon game, it's gonna be amazing!"
While yes it is open world, there is no LS, (from what I can tell) and it's unoptimized for the Switch
"Terastalization is such a cool gimmick!"
I'm not 100% sure how the gimmick works, but basically, it sounds like you get a weaker/stronger Arceus or Silvally and, whenever you want to, can give it the Plate/Memory so it can change it's type. As someone who played a lot of online Pokemon, I can say for a fact this sounds like an amazingly horrifying nightmare. The opponent can turn your check into a check of their own, and you'd have no way to counter it unless it's an obvious Meta pick. Not related to the games, but moreso towards competitive.
What I never expected to see was a AAA game, from the highest earning series in the world, release a game that has the likelihood of being entirely unplayable from the lack of proper coding, power of the console, and optimization of the game.
While I complained about no Z for the XY trilogy, no BF in ORAS, Dexit in SWSH, and the entirety of BDSP, it came from a place of genuine care of the quality and enjoyment of these games. Once L:A came out, hearing the hype and praise around the community over SV genuinely made me want myself to be wrong, no way they can screw up 3 mainline games in a row, right?
    ...
Well, here we are, I was right.
    Am I happy?
No, I thought I would be, but I was wrong there. I'm disappointed, and I feel bad for the people who got their hopes up. I didn't want people to feel burned like I felt I was, but, C'est la vie.
I usually attribute "failure" of a game to one of three things, which are a Lack of Passion/Effort (343 Halo), a lack of time/resources (Cyberpunk 2077), and Corporate/Management interference.
It seems like a combination of the first two is most likely in this case, and this seems to have become a recurring problem at GF once Shigeru Ohmori took over as head director of the series. I'll keep this extremely short, but I'm not saying that the employees at GF don't care about making a good Pokemon game, what I'm saying is that because of the complacency of Ohmori and the current state of rushing out games as the current generation is just releasing, it's about time that something like this happened.
I don't really know how to end this, but thanks for the video, and I hope that GF and the execs over there get their act together and focus on quality over money.
As I said before, I'm just observing, so I could be wrong, I would be welcome to anyone correcting me in my assumptions/arguments.

    I'm conflicted on level scaling.
On one hand, there are times where I went into areas far overlevelled.
On the other hand, one of the funnest parts of violet for me was trying to tackle the game slightly out of order and doing difficult stuff first.
Level scaling would rob you of that choice, to try challenge yourself against tougher gyms/titans/whatever.
