Same here! I fell asleep with YT playing, and woke up to this in its' first hour. I let it play through, and at the end, I played it back from the beginning, and am currently doing laundry and cleaning to it!
the message, energy, and production are unmatched and the skill level!!! their music is soooooo underrated and live with an orchestra!!! im so impressed which is not easy to do being in the music business for over 40years.. they deserve HALL OF FAME, AND I GRAMMY FOR BEST LIVE PERFORMCE .... MY SAME REACTION WTFFFFF!!!!
I often hear him referred to as the Goat. I remember him on south street playing on the corner every Saturday with the Square Roots. Eventually the police were on edge because people came far and wide to see the first Rap Band playing with an upright bassist and Quest on drums and Black thought and the Original Kenyatta on the Mic. I’m amazed and proud of the success and influence that they have had on this industry..
Maaaan‼️He is one of the biggest reasons I ‘WRITE’ lyrics not just rhymes. He-BlackThought is truly unmatched but joined only be a handful that rock like he do✊🏾(Phonte/Little Brother, Nas, and of course PAC)🤷🏽♀️just my opinion.
I wa thinking the fuckin same thing, and I'm not even mastering english language, but seeing this you really understand what MC means....can't stop listening
live orchestra, great beats, hiphop, blues and jazz, The Roots gives us it all. That's great because we wouldn't be able to hear such a performance from other musicians.
Ive commented on this grand collaboration, it brings tears to my eyes. If only the world could understand that music crosses all lines of communication, enough said!
Mo town, funk, soul, sorrow, triumph, the will to keep trying.... Embodied in this tight joint that these beautiful cats have made :) I didnt want to try anymore, but after hearing this I have no choice for my kids ;)

You cannot listen to this and not reach your highest self - at work, at the gym, in life. Have been listening to The Roots since the 90s. A perk of being from South Jersey and getting all the good Philly music!
Thank you Quest Love, thank you Black Thought, thank you the LEGENDARY ROOTS CREW AND ASSOCIATED AMAZING MUSICIANS:) I WAS LOST AND NOW AM FOUND THANKS TO THESE GROOVES, MELODIES, FEEL, MUSIC!!!! I WANT TO CONTINUE NOW DESPITE ANY OBSTACLES KNOWING THAT MUSIC HAS BEEN MASTERED IN THIS PERFORMANCE :)))))))))
I love how the Roots have embraced & created a music and creators community that brings together this wonderful event with so much talent! There are so many brilliant music moments in this event- to name a few- the Erykah Badu solo; the opportunity for guitarist Jermey Ellis to go off, Prince style, with his guitar solo; the tuba solo / highlights throughout...I can go on and on...but got to go to sleep
when you see the copper headbanging on their free time you know it's a perfect moment of music ! Infinite respect to everybody who work for this performance !
I love the Roots. Black Thought is the "BEST RAPPER IN THE WORLD!!!!!" Name another who can carry it like he does. This is the epitome of fusion. HIP HOP AND ORCHESTRAL MUSIC. I love it.
At 18 I fell in love with The Roots the very first time I heard Do You Want More!?!! on cassette in my Honda Civic. When it ended with the title track (and Rahzel fooling me with his DJ beatboxing) I kept driving and played it again as I had never heard anything like what they’d tapped into. Digable Planets and Tribe tried the jazzy hip hop thing but nothing like these guys. They incorporated their musicality full circle being the first to be brave enough to try something completely different by using a band instead of just 2 turntables to express their version of hip hop. Since then I’ve become a fierce fan and have proudly watched them climb the ranks into one of the most respected groups in the game. I had the pleasure of meeting Tariq Trotter (and the crew) in Vancouver during the Illadelph tour and you couldn’t meet a kinder, more humble dude. They deserve everything they’ve accomplished and they’ve still yet to peak!! Legendary? Hell yes.
Your comment is so good, yet so bad. Say what you want about Digable Planets. They were just a flash in the pan. A Tribe Called Quest didn't "try the jazzy Hip Hop thing". They created it and they changed Hip Hop in the process. As a matter of fact, there wouldn't be a Roots if there was no Tribe. Black Thought would tell you that. The Roots may be your favorite, but unlike A Tribe Called Quest they have not reached legendary status. Some would even argue that they're not even Hip Hop because they're a band. The Roots' contribution was more towards neo soul. They're actually the architects of that sound. It's a wave that they created. They also showed the world how Hip Hop should be played by a band. These are great contributions. Maybe someday they'll get the respect that they deserve.
I have been a fan of The Roots since I was 15. Seen them only once live and they were by far the best group I have seen live. This year I’ll be seeing them live for the second time but this time I’ll have my 17 year old daughter and I simply cannot wait. Bring on August 1st.
I can't help but notice, at the time I type this comment, this is not a SINGLE "down thumb" dislike for this video. But over 12k likes. It's that good. mind. blown.
Finally caught them live headlining a Folk Festival in Canada of all things, & my friend I brought (Jamaican lady) said "I have NEVER seen so many white asses wiggle for 2 hrs" 😁🤣
The Roots, musical gifted talents songwriting and collaborations with other musicians like yourselves! Im a retired music educator, and I feel it deeply.
I've had this video on repeat since I stumbled on it last week. I had no idea The Roots did a concert with a symphonic orchestra -- better late than never to find this masterpiece!
One thing about Black Thought he will rap. This is beyond amazing, it's I don't know how to describe it. Shout to all who contributed on this show. This is real music and how musicians should perform.
