nice catch camera guy , at 1:25 someone finally mentioned for viewers to not just rip off the keyboard like it appeared with the main guy in shot, i had pc on mute and trying figure this getting this keyboard off and i nearly went ahead and pulled it all off assuming no wires because he had his ripped right off and i didnt see wires but i thought lets start over and unmute this see what they are saying. i bet theres one really upset person out there that ripped them bad boys right out the motherboard. lol

You can see the ram is soldered from the top side before you take the board out. Your right though, its terrible that they do that. It should be industry standard to allow upgrades. ASUS is becoming almost as greedy as apple.

Pathetic. it enrages me when laptop manufacturers do this. Making the upgrade path other than adding an SSD absolutely non existent. Is it a money saving scheme or a scheme to make you buy a new laptop when 4gb isnt enough. This catches out the poor unfortunates. I mean you cant even take out and replace the fucking hard drive and battery without taking the entire front facia off. Shit stupid moronic design.

Definitely a "commercial decision" on their part. Saves them from not only having to add in SO-DIMM slots, but also forces people to spend big on models with more memory.
I've been using a laptop with 32gb ram (2x16gb SO-DIMM DDR3) since 2013 to this day, and am still beyond pissed off at the prices of laptops that still DON'T have that much memory. I've also recently got a recent ASUS ROG GL503VS SCAR which had 8gb initially, was upgraded to 2x8gb, but I went ahead and bought 2x32GB DDR4 SO-DIMMs just to prove a point that it is much cheaper to upgrade RAM yourself, than it is to buy a premade laptop with that RAM.

I have an asus laptop too. I kind of regret it now that having only 2GB of ram for my X200MA would be so hard this present day. The build quality of the laptop itself is cheap too. The plastic screw casing broke off and some lock mechanism holding it are only those latches you need card to pry open with. No wonder that thing cost cheaply. but well. i took a look inside, few things they really saved are:
    1. It doesnt use shitty eMMC like most other netbook laptop does
    2. The motherboard is good. (bios is kinda ok, not much can do about it)
Its really bare minimum. but now im really wanting a true laptop that can handle some task

Planned obsolescence and nerfing DIY user upgrades. Worst commercial decision ever on the laptop manufacturer's part.

Thrre is still an option to upgrade it with a nice half size ssd. You will just have to solder a socket for it first.

Asus!! Come on! Just had a customer bring one of these in and yeah you can see that the 4GB is soldered on with no upgrade slot on the board. 🥲
