TBH it's great you publish videos like this one. I have recently bought 4080S and with full honesty I just realize I would be better off with anything between 4060 and 4070 super. Many tech channels push narrative "4k or nothing" and we are absolutely missing the whole point of gaming which is joy. THNX for your work, brother.

Honestly I kinda feel the same way. I bought a 4080S because I need a 4k monitor for work but now I find myself avoiding lighter titles like league and cs2 because it feels like a waste of my pc. But now I loose out on the joy of those games.

the 1060 6GB was one of my favorite cards of all time.
i got the really nice 9gps Aorus Xtreme back then and it was an absolute beast. It was relatively new and only cost me 240 bucks used.
it was always stone cold in my tiny HP case and overclocked like hell.
I wish we could get Nvidea cards for those awesome prices again.
the 10xx series had absolutely everything for every need. The awesome 4gb 1050ti that even worked without power connector,
midrange king 1060 with tons of custom designs, low high end 1070 with whopping 8 GB vram, the 1080 which was awesome but defenitely stood in
the shadow of the all mighty 11GB 1080ti, which still haunts Nvidea till this day.
    this lineup had everything!

The 1060 3GB traded blows with the GTX 970 back when I had both cards, it was almost always in the margin of error territory. Given that both the GTX 970 and GTX 1060 3GB are both still getting driver updates it'd be interesting to see how they compare in the same games.

Used GTX 1060 3GB before, and returned to it as my current card (3060Ti) is sent for RMA. Surprised that the only thing I'm really missing are details which is really not that important in competitive games like shooters. If you're playing F2P games or esports, the 3GB would do fine. Only when it comes to AAA titles, especially new ones and their atrocious optimisation that you'd need the 6GB card to even barely make it.

An Asus 1060 Phoenix 3GB was the first gpu I bought and opened a world of games coming from integrated graphics on an i5 4670k. The RTX 2070S I got next was a much longer term investment and effectively doubled framerate however it didn't give me that same wow level I got going from integrated the first time. I was even less impressed recently playing around with a 3090 given how unoptimised games are where the 2070S usually has more effective usage. I didn't realise it before but the 2070S (just missed out on the 2080), surpassed the 1060 3gb for just 279 aud new at the time vs 839 2070S. Not because of it's 8gb that lasted, not because of it's big oc'd performance out of box (Galax 1 Click OC model).. but because of it's relatively stable feature set and rtx features most importantly rtx voice (everyone should be using this). I saw people praising 1080 ti awhile back and im like nah, 2080 reigned supreme. The drivers being solid and being pretty easy to navigate across all the cards was very helpful.

It's amazing what the 10 series can still do.
Yes developers do still keep in mind older cards to some extent to make more sales and nvidia to their credit kept diver updates alive, but the 10 series of cards were and still are surprising. A 1080 or 1080ti will still play new titles well to this day at 1440p with a few setting turned down. Plus obviously ray tracing off. Nothing wrong with a 1060 if at 1080p and willing to make a few graphical adjustments.

  • @Wushu-viking
    @Wushu-viking 20 дней назад +1

IMHO, the 1060 is best match for a low power PSU, and/or an older CPU (say like the i7-2600). (maybe a OEM PC where you can add a 2xMolex>6pin Power adapter, without worry, since it draws max 50W from the 6pin) But if it has enough juice in it (say 400W+ on an average platform, with at least 1x8pin PCI-E), the 1070 can be found often for 75-100 USD, and very much worth the extra price. Anything from the i7-4770 and above, can handle a GTX 1070 in most titles without bottlenecking it. For a CPU below that, the 1060 is enough. The 3GB is a decent match for a very low budget(low power) i5-xxxx e-sport gaming PC. For the i7-xxxx, I would pick the 6GB model, since the CPU (still) has the threads to handle even the more demanding titles "resonably". So you want the VRAM that these games easily eats up even in 1080P.

Maybe I missed it, but @techyescity did you mention that the 3GB vs 6GB 1060 is not just a vRAM difference? The 3GB has 1152 CUDA cores vs 1280 on the 6GB. Thats ~11% less so some of the performance differences are probably a result of the lower CUDA count and not related to the vRAM amount at all.

I don't think it's VRAM related for FSR as the RTX 3060 laptop and RTX 4050 laptop have 6gb of VRAM and the RTX 3050 laptop has 4gb of VRAM and both have no trouble enabling FSR. Granted if you're on those cards you would be using DLSS but in the case of those few games that don't support DLSS, none of those cards have any issues enabling it in any titles. I wonder if it's something else. I haven't tested Miles Morales on my older 1060 laptop yet though, only my 3060 laptop but I wonder if it will have the same issue

*1060 6GB great for low 1080P gaming, would stay away from the newer AAA games though*

When you say Starfield runs ok on a 1060 6gb - you also have to factor in that you are running a 7800x3d cpu - and the game is quite CPU sensitive. Most people running a 1060 are going to have an old i5 4th gen and arent going to get anything like the fps you achieved. I think a ryzen 3600 would have been a better test cpu for this video.. Will let the cards perform well whilst not giving out slightly misleading fps data for anyone considering the card.

I have the 3gb and sadly there now games that are unplayable on it even at 720 lowest settings like Horizon Forbidden West etc. I have perfectly completed Horizon Zero Dawn on it then when its time to play the next game it bonks out, it somehow rans 30fps+ but there are spots where the framerate dips to single digit headache inducing mess. Had I added the 50 bucks when I purchased the 1060 I would be playing HFW today happily. Now I plan to skip 8gb cards and go directly to 12gb or 16gb if ever I save the funds needed. The pandemic broke me, If that didn't happened I could be playing on a freaking 3060/6700XT/6800XT/4070/7800XT now...

Would be better to test Fortnite on Performance API since its a FPS juicer and would be best suitable for a 1060.

For moba games and games like warframe and warthunder its perfectly capable of 120+ stable fps. But anything newer and the input lag will make you not play those games.

The 1060 3gb had memory compression baked in, that's why it tends to have lower memory usage

all nvidia GPU have that tech since maxwell. but nvidia also tweak their VRAM usage in games. that's why in some cases you can see AMD GPU can end up using more VRAM than nvidia GPU.
