Even though I've been a mechanic for 34 years, it's nice to see how to do a job before starting, I had the pipe but not the Vacuum caps, just ordered them before the install(mods so far VSFR 7.5" intercooler, Big diff Mfactory, Diff brace, No tune yet but soon)
Currently running a 130i with the N52 engine which I love, your vids have me hell bent on a N54 monster, looking to get 400bhp but reliably as it will be my daily, congrats on making a cool beast
Wait, so they provide you with 1/8" vacuum line but you're supposed to use 1/4" line? Why in the world don't they just give you 1/4" line to begin with?
You are truly a Wisconsinite my friend. the accent and the fact that you grabbed a cold one mid install lol you love to see it 😂. From Wisco here as well
Great Video Jake. It's funny I have an N54 535xi MHD Stage 1+ with boost hitting 17-18PSI and never had a problem with the stock charge pipe, 165,000 miles. I did just last week finally adapt a 335 N54 charge pipe to the car, works great and less of a worry. I see your stock pipe does have the support bolt still installed on the bracket I feel that is the biggest issue with the stock pipe, without that support it puts stress on the plastic at the throttle body and pulls apart. Better to replace with aluminum in the end though obviously.
Interesting thought! I bet you're right, the support bolt probably doesn't help in terms of flexibility. However, I've noticed that most crack right at the throttle body connection. Who knows how long this stock charge pipe would've lasted, but I'm glad we both upgraded!
Just bought the almost complete high quality all aluminum CarLAB Tunning charge pipe + boost pipe cooling kit for my M-Sport F10 n55 at $260. All i need to complete all plastic to metal swap of all pipes is the Lower charge pipe that runs down to the Intercooler. The stock small intercooler will also be replaced with a $215 all aluminum thick larger Intercooler and while im add it ill upgrade the cheap stock boost Diverter to a USA designed, Japanese made DV+ BOV Diverter and get everything out of the way!
When he busted out the ipa to finish up the install I subscribed lol reminded me of myself 😂 nice vid man really helped im trying o get as much knowledge on a n54 before getting one
Already have this set up & love it waiting for bigger mods I literally have pretty full FBO lol only thing left is turbos and and fuel system and I’ll most likely go full send Doc race on auto & see what happens with good ole tranny I also have XHP stage 3 and freaking love it JB4 on Map 5 with 5 Gal of E & car has no issues can’t wait for more mods that I don’t have
Have my N55 135i 2 weeks, went to the ring and broke the charge pipe at the ring (not on track). Needed to drive 300km at a cruise 100kmh, that was a focking boring ride (100kmh on autobahn). Ordered a FTP one, only avaible in the Netherlands. Stoked to have it on!
Nice informative video man! Had my n54 e92 335i for about 5 months but had quite a few problems with it(god damn limp mode😂) currently still under the 6 month warranty so once that is over and all the problems are solved I’ll start the mods and will defo use this channel for guidance!
Jake Spence yeah don’t wanna disrupt any chance of getting as much fixed as I can! Been hella unlucky tho, had new injectors, cool packs and spark plugs. Vanos solenoid changed twice, high pressure fuel pump, an 02 sensor and a tensioner, and some vacuum lines as I had a major and 2 minor leaks. And it’s still going into limp mode after driving for about 30 mins... I don’t know if it’s overheating but that seems like the logical thing, I can drive it hard and do first gear pulls or drive it normally and after roughly 30 mins it will go into limp mode when driving normal at like 40mph..
Lolllllll thanks I’m actually looking to replace the purge valve/evap line u found broken... only one solid video up for n52 but looked pretty similar until now! Right on for tossing that in there
Been looking aswell, and he does it by mistake. Lol. Is it hard tl.remove the purge valve? I have a check engine light because of the valve stuck open.
Jake, great video! Excellent step by step and called out all the things to watch out and be aware. Also I’m replacing my BMS charge pipe; bought one with those silly recirc valves. Meh.
Very nice job I have N54 and just start having this problem last week reduce power engine malfunction lol that video help me a lot bro love that blow out valve lol sound good
have you upgraded the vacuum line yet. I have a video where i tap a barbed fitting into my manifold and it works fantastic and its cheaper than the vader solutions part.
I’m running JB4, e30, Catless DP’s, MHD stage 2+ and 18lbs on my stock CP. I knew I was pushing my luck so I ordered this combo. (Kicker) it’s on back order 1-2 weeks.. wish me luck.
Haha I'm surprised it lasted that long! I think ARM has some charge pipes in stock and they're currently running 10% off everything: www.armmotorsports.com/collections/n54-335i?sca_ref=348679.PzBi8ssEpW&sca_source=youtube

Ever since my radio hasn't been working I could hear the Blow Off Valve releasing pressurized air in to atmosphere as vehicle is accelerating. Good to hear. Met him on the pages and talked abit and seemed very knowledgable. So put in some faith and sent her off. Hopefully picking it up friday ! Should all meet up someday and have a oner cruise.
My kit didn't come with the caps for the other lines. Are they 1/2 inch? Or 3/4 inch? Not sure what to buy. I don't want to have to take it apart to measure then put it back to gether theold way to go buy them. LOL. Then do it all over again when I get back. Great video as always!
It's just what TiAL recommends. I've used both 1/8" and 1/4" line on both of my cars and never really noticed a difference. But they claim it allows for proper operation.
How would you recommend increasing the boost on my 335? I have equivalent pure stage 2 turbos with all supporting mods, just no meth. Due to the inaccessibility of e85, I've hit a roadblock in terms of fueling. I'm running Forge Diverter Valves, and my ER charge pipe doesn't have meth bungs. Would meth injection be my only route to higher power?
When buying my new charge pipe I have an option for BOV or original DV connection. Is one better in terms of performance is it just the sound it's effecting. I really don't like the sound of BOV so didn't want to use it if possible.
Do you recommend BOV on 2011 335is model? I'm worry the overboost function may not be working properly with the BOV installed. Please be advise. Thanks!
For sure! The camera I have is definitely outdated. Hard to justify a new camera when I have one that works, but I agree, I could use one with better focusing abilities. Mod money or camera money?!
I got my charge pipe off thanks to your video. There were two big chunks out of the plastic at the throttle body end and was already loose. Clip no longer holding it. What concerned me though is that it's oily inside. Is this normal?
Sounds like you already broke your charge pipe and it's been ready to be upgraded! Yes, it's normal to have oil in the charge pipe. If you get an oil catch can, that will help.
@@jake_spence Yes, it blew out when I floored it a few days ago. Didn't know for sure this was the issue until I got down to it. I think you have the best video on the removal and install. Thanks again.
What do stock diverter valves do for the sound. Right now I'm running mhd on my stock 335 and really like the rumble/burble that comes from my exhaust. Will bypassing the stock diverter with a blow of valve change this ?
Hey Jake. I see that you're from the Fox Valley area. I'm located down in Milwaukee. Just curious as to what shop works on your cars? Or did you do all the work yourself? Love your content! Would love to meet up with you one day!
Hey man! I try to do some of the work myself, sometimes with the help of friends. Otherwise Rosenbauer's Garage in Kiel has done a great job on my bigger projects.
@@jake_spence that's awesome! Did that shop do your single turbo swap? Just curious as I'm thinking of going single in the future as well! But unfortunately my car is an auto. Wish I had a 6 speed. Haha.

Brotha Jake, as a first time viewer i just gotta say this presentation is DOPE practical and good. Recently upgraded from my 07' 530i to 2010 535i M-Sport. Planning my MODS n upgrades and this is awesome charge pipe topic info. Great Post & Cheers from a new subscriber!

Hello Jake, ive been watching your videos I just bought a 2012 335IS with 60K miles bone stock. What wpuld you recommend me to do first on a bike stock car thank your videos
Not really, just know that with AWD, that's more serviceable parts that could fail in the front. RWD doesn't have to worry about transfer cases, axles, etc. Otherwise, it's the same as a 335i!
I have one and besides the turbos being harder to get at and M3 suspension parts not fitting on the front its pretty much the same car. If you don't absolutely need AWD go for a RWD model
Any chance you know how far hp wise on a 2010 535i xdrive automatic. When I bout my car there wasn't a 6mt with in reasonable price. I got mine for cheap due to just a couple grand which there's more in parts that 2k. But I rebuilt the motor but it has an automatic with xdrive. Can I safely used mhd stage 1.0 ? I eventually want to go full 6mt. But gotta wait for the wife's model s so she drives it I drive an 04 530i with 100k miles. But I have been getting the idea of doing the ess supercharger kit for my 04 530i. I got it with full history for 4500 2 years ago with 88k miles. I got very lucky. But it's so much slow than the 535i .
Burgers website states this fits the 535, it does NOT. ECS tuning has it listed right, only for th 135 and 335 but as I found out the gard way, it does not sit down in the engine bay correctly to fit without bending it causing leaks, etc. This is a great pipe I/m sure, for the 135 and 335 though. Anyone need a new pipe with a TIAL flange, brand new, $50.
So I just installed my ARM charge pipe and Tial BOV. Am I suppose to put that brown o ring under the BOV cause I couldn't get it to sit flush and put it on with out and it sits flush.
Bro I don't even own a n54 and you make me want one because your contents so good. I really wanna get a 335i. I wanna look Nationwide for one. What do you guys recommend to make sure I'm not getting fucked because I hear it's hard to get a ppi from different states so if that were true is a dealership my only option?
Haha, thanks. I've bought nationwide many times and never had an issue with a PPI. Search for some local BMW-specialized independent shops. Have the owner or dealership bring the car in to the indy shop to get a PPI. Obviously call the PPI first and ask if they do PPI's and schedule it when everyone is available. I just paid over the phone.
Lol accidentally you just show me something wrong in my car 😂 the first hose you disconnect i see a vacuum line connected to it in my car ever since bought it its been disconnected so i just got a vacuum hose and connect it hopefully something good will happen when I finally fix my car
You are amazing buddy! Just bought my 335i , I have an Alert message when I give full power " your engine cannot give full power". My BMW is a 2008 model with only 52.000kms. N54. (Previous owner just had the two air pipes feeding the turbos changed by BMW) Any idea to help me??? Hail from France Mr Jake!
There could be a few different things wrong. You could have a boost leak somewhere in the vacuum lines or from your stock charge pipe. The stock vacuum lines are not very good, but theyre easy and cheap to change to high temp silicone ones. The other thing it could be is your turbos are blown, but if it’s only 52,000 kms, that’s not very likely. I have a 2008 535xi and I had the “Reduced Engine Power” light coming on. For me, it was the turbos

It has a push connector on it (mine was broken) just squeeze the tabs and pull out.
Very cool friend! Good job!
Thanks for watching!
Do you have to code in the intakes and the bov?
When you cap off the old diverter valve spots then can you remove the ugly canisters in front of the coolant overflow tank?
No, those are still hooked up to the boost solenoids.
What is your opinion of VRSF? I just made an order for a bunch of VRSF stuff and will be doing the charge pipe and tial BOV next week when it arrives.
VRSF is good as well, but slightly more expensive. I've installed both and they are similar.

Hello Jake, ive been watching your videos I just bought a 2012 335IS with 60K miles bone stock. What wpuld you recommend me to do first on a bike stock car thank your videos
maintenance
what exhaust setup is the car running in this video?
I can't wait to start modding my car! Thinking of starting on the charge pipe and also what's your thoughts on MHD?
Nice! Charge pipe is a great first mod so you don't have issues later. MHD is good, but I've always been a JB4 guy.
Do you know if there's a mod to replace the plastic plumbing with rubber?
I'm doing this and having a hard time with the placement of the elbow first and the pipe second 😮💨
What's the purpose/advantage of having a blow-off valve, if there is already a diverter valve? Is it just the noise?
as he said in the video -- the OEM ones are "prone to failure... "
what spring pressure you at?
whats the diff btw this and smartturbo bov??
The sound you described is from lack of bov
Do you need to order a blow off valve with the charge pipe or can you install without it ?
You can option without it; there’s one that uses the stock diverter valves
Been looking for 335xi's, any reason I shouldn't go for one?
Not really, just know that with AWD, that's more serviceable parts that could fail in the front. RWD doesn't have to worry about transfer cases, axles, etc. Otherwise, it's the same as a 335i!
I have one and besides the turbos being harder to get at and M3 suspension parts not fitting on the front its pretty much the same car. If you don't absolutely need AWD go for a RWD model
Appreciate the input guys
Should the BOV sit closed at idle 👀
please tell me guys where can i buy the intake, please!
I’m wondering the same question. I was able to use it but not quite sure you need it.
@@jake_spence Thanks man my search will start soon once I can afford the parts and preventative maintenance stuff I wanna do to it.
Does it work on stock turbos??
Lol accidentally you just show me something wrong in my car 😂 the first hose you disconnect i see a vacuum line connected to it in my car ever since bought it its been disconnected so i just got a vacuum hose and connect it hopefully something good will happen when I finally fix my car
Haha, that's awesome. Glad to help without even trying!
Jake Spence you’re the man jake you’re the man
You are amazing buddy!
Just bought my 335i , I have an Alert message when I give full power " your engine cannot give full power".
My BMW is a 2008 model with only 52.000kms. N54.
(Previous owner just had the two air pipes feeding the turbos changed by BMW)
Any idea to help me???
Hail from France Mr Jake!
There could be a few different things wrong. You could have a boost leak somewhere in the vacuum lines or from your stock charge pipe. The stock vacuum lines are not very good, but theyre easy and cheap to change to high temp silicone ones. The other thing it could be is your turbos are blown, but if it’s only 52,000 kms, that’s not very likely. I have a 2008 535xi and I had the “Reduced Engine Power” light coming on. For me, it was the turbos
Will this work on a 740li 2014?
