i love the way you guys do the comparison by switching the same riff without interruption, if someone talks first inbetween then it kinda breaks the sound memory a bit, this way the comparison is very direct
Having owned and used the MT15 for multiple shows with my band, it works fantastic for aggressive guitar parts as well as crispy cleans. It's such a versatile amp that also lets you control your seperate EQ for gain channel and clean channels. If you're looking for a solid amp to gig with, the MT15 is your best bet. By far. I use it for my band, Moth Bite and will continue using for all of our music.
That EVH 5150 all the way for my tastes. I really dig how close to an 80s thrash feel you can pull out of it with minimal effort but that PRS has cleans so clean I'm not going to shower tomorrow after hearing it.
MrDisruptor1 not at all man, everyone hears tones a little different, and like different tones lol. I prefer the prs but both of these actually sound great in a mix.
I agree... I want to like the MT15 so that I can buy it and have Mark's HUGE Alter Bridge tone but it sounds congested with too much low mids. I like the EVH... probably because it sounds like my soldano astroverb (aside from the slight hint of fuzzy fizz the EVH has). So now I will go back to being content with my amps! :) The only negative of the astroverb is the single channel, but it cleans up nicely with the guitar volume knob and I have a Blues Jr for a clean channel.
I agree with you. I'm a huge Alter Bridge/Tremonti fan so naturally I feel like I should appreciate the MT15 more. I've always loved the clarity in Tremonti's heavy riffs and I like his loyalty to analog equipment, but this EVH 5150 III was more pleasing to my ear. And that's okay too. I love Gojira's tones also, and Joe Duplantier uses EVH 5150 III.
I have a voodoo lab amp channel switcher that I programmed so these amps change between clean and lead simultaneously. What a ferocious tone when these two amps play in unison via my helix. Thanks for the demo
Dual mono setup? What cabs are you using? I had a setup like that briefly with two Joyo bantamps (mesa and Marshall styles) and a y-splitter on one footswtich. Sounded awesome and I’m looking to do it again using lunchbox style heads!
I recently got one and it’s nothing short of amazing. Gets really heavy if you want the the clean tones on it are equally amazing. I run it through a PRS 2x12 cabinet. It really loud though. Like you would think it’s a 50W head
@@Dieselpower994 Nice dude. I was about to buy one, but I bought the Neural Quad Cortex. We shall see how that goes. If I don't like it, I will 100% buy one of these.

The MT15 is the kind of amp that sounds awesome when you play through it by itself, but it can disappear a bit in a mix. The EVH don't sound quite as refined on it's own, but it always fits perfectly in a mix and always seems to be the loudest amp even though you volume/gain match it with other amps.
@@kornelijekovac9793 Yeah, the thing even on 7 watts is practically "confident enough to let everyone hear you" level of loud as soon as you turn the volume knob up enough to get any sound out of it lol
I have to to agree with the comment that it sounds better on its own. I have tried tube screamer and other overdrive pedals. ...I think all you need is reverb and delay and whatever you fancy also out of the fx loop.😊
Awesome review/comparison... thank you so much! That's a sub...:) I really like both amps and for different reasons. I would love to hear a stereo track with both amps on both sides so 4 tracks in total. I have a feeling they would create a huge wall of "sitting perfectly in the mix kick ass" sound. Also, keep in mind that the SM57 notoriously tends to smother the center to upper midrange of certain amp/cab/speaker combinations which can lead to a loss of "body" or "substance" on recordings and I got the impression that's what's happening with the EVH here. The EVH DOES sound brighter and bitier by design but not to this extent I should think. I believe if you actually hear those amps in a room you won't get results as drastic but for this video's purpose I think the exageration is somehow pretty useful because it clearly emphasizes the different characteristics. Another mic... say a Lewitt tom mic... would have reduced the effects. I think I need to buy both of them, an ABY box, another 2x12 and destroy all the drummers on earth... 🖤
I personally run the same rig, MT15 into the Harley Benton G212 Vintage. I'd say the MT15 sounds just a bit better, and is more versatile, but it's also harder to dial in to sound great. Like, it can definitely sound amazing, but it takes some work to get there. Now only a couple weeks and I can see how it handles the Headrush Pedalboard for my effects.
Dude, I need the MT 15 in my life!!!! Love the demo dude. Thanks for including the clean tones in there. I play for my church and I need a rig that can take reverb & delay on cleans for a Sunday but destroy my ears when I'm at home rocking out 🤣🤣🤣
I must say as an EVH owner I’m probably biased, but i think it stomps all over the PRS. One thing worth mentioning is that there are two versions of the EVH lunchbox head; the one here that has two dirty channels with no real clean setting, and the LBX II which has the clean channel and the lead channel with dual gain and volume pots. I couldn’t make the choice between them, so I bought the 50 watt version that has all three channels.
I had the 5150 iii 6l6 50w and the Prs mt-15 at different times. I miss the Prs more though. The EVH Blue and Red channels sound great( although can be harsh at times for higher notes due to brightness)Other then that, fantastic. Great metal amp. The green channel however was not great, left much to be desired. The Prs clean is much, much better. The hi gain on both are great, just different. Combined they would be perfect(for me). All depends on the person but for the money they are both awesome amps.
Both awesome. I went w the MT15. I think it's the best value tube amp on the market, currently. But i'm a sucker for the 5150 and would be super happy w either of these amps.
For me and my ear (as well as the environment I play in) I gotta go with the PRS MT15. Love the smooth, creamy Clean channel and the thickness of the Lead channel. I have the MT15 and the MT112 en route. Should be here early next week. I'm hoping I can find a good range of versatility in the Lead channel or thru effects and the Clean channel... Keeping my fingers crossed! Nice demo/video! Cheers!!
Thanks for the demo. Only owned one tube amp, monoprice 15w and this things a freaking beast...cant wait for their next version. I dont gig, or cant go any louder, so thats perfect for me...and way cheaper.

Not to take away from the prs but that evh "fizz" would be the reason it wouldn't sound dull in a band setting. I once saw a bad and i said "his tone is too sharp" once the band played, it sounded great...
It really helps when you can cut through the mix indeed! I personally don't play in a band so I'm not trying to compete with a bassist or vocalist, so I typically lean toward the a little thicker tone in my little "jam" cave! I currently run a Marshall DSL40C with a Celestion Creamback speaker (def an ear pleaser to me). I've got the MT15 and the MT112 en route however. Hoping I'm not disappointed...! ;-) Cheers
This is what I try to explain to people all of the time. Just because your rig sounds good when you're jamming alone doesn't mean it will sound good in a mix
After having both of these amps for a while I think if I had to chose one over the other it would be the PRS, not because it sounds better as I think they both sound great, but because the clean channel has it’s own EQ. The only thing missing on the PRS is a master volume, which isn’t all important and can be easily fixed by buying a volume box from eBay and running it through the effects loop. To me, both of these amps are spectacular. You opinion may vary because your tone choices may be different from mine, which is great because it would suck if we all sounded the same.
I tried them both well in the shop ... they sound good, I'm EVH superfans but I think the MT15 is a bit more versatile because the clean channel receives the stompbox well, then it has two separate EQs, which you allow for perfect tone adjustment in every channel... however they are two amazing amps for their price and you should have both of them.
Thanks for not chugging for 20mins lmao. Have recorded with MT15 in a studio for most of my album. Really wanting it for a live setting. Cant go wrong with small venues.
Awesome video. I had the 50w 5150 III and sold it to buy a 6505 instead. The 6505 (non plus) has all of the mids I felt the EVH was missing. That said, the "hollow" sound of the EVH did sound really good for certain tones. The guy that sold me the 6505 used the money to buy an MT15 and from what he tells me it's even better than the 6505 is, so I guess that's next on my list. Wish I could have all 3 though.
@@Garrett-In-Canada Nice, I really want one. I've never had a proper head valve amp, and this one looks compact and good for the price. The only thing I'm kinda worried about is how loud it is... Are you still able to play at "room jam session" volume level, if you know what I mean?

When you maxed the presence with mt15, it sounded very similar to the evh... the highs in the 5150 are too much for me. Afaik, mt 15s are cheaper too, no?
The real question is how do they sound together? Cause it seems they EVH has a bit more bitey mid range and the Tremonti has a bit more thickness so it seems an ideal blend.

Great juxtapose. I liked the EVH. The PRS is great, but it's missing that certain unexplainable tone.
Amazing video! I preferred the PRS MT15 overall.
Cheers mate 👍
my bad...I was looking at the clean on MT 15...great video
The EVH is just hard to beat...All that clean gain is like fat power tube saturation...Can't go wrong with either one of these...
When you maxed the presence with mt15, it sounded very similar to the evh... the highs in the 5150 are too much for me. Afaik, mt 15s are cheaper too, no?
Great content. Thanks for doing videos like this
Not sure if it is a 6L6 thing, but I could not get the MT15 to play nice at bedroom levels.
The real question is how do they sound together? Cause it seems they EVH has a bit more bitey mid range and the Tremonti has a bit more thickness so it seems an ideal blend.
Ha... just wrote a comment and used the exact same word... bitey and how that would work brillantly together with the MT... 🖤
@@Silktribe I'm a sucker for blending amps, and both Eddie and Mark were known for using multiple amps.
In theory it should sorta like blending a 800 with a Rectifier in a way .
Like that open sound of 5153lbx
Chevelle right off the bat! Instant sub.
PRS sounds more modern imo but the EVH cuts better. Hard to say which sounder better maybe EVH but the PRS is very nice.
Awesome video!! I choose the MT. The gain is more saturated and focused. To my ear it sounds better. Great job at the sid by side comp.
Great comparasing video.
You get the God smack tone with the aggressive gain it has .
The MT15 sounds FAT. Must be the power tubes. Great demo.
So, which is your personal preference? Do you not like the MT 15 because of the preamp voice? Personally I think they are close enough in tone that I could be happy with either one.
fat but overal nice, evh little bit trebly i think even both same flat EQs
@@komangalitkumarajaya Yeah, the MT15 has more low end (to me), making it sound fatter. Both are good, but I'm leaning to the PRS. Maybe the new EVH LBX-S will have some more low end to it...
ADD: I play through a 4X12 which probably fatten up the EVH, but so too, the MT15.
Still the EVHs blue channel is sparking compared to the one on my old 6505+.
PRS nailed the clean Creed sound.
