Art Donovan was hilarious LoL. Also a Hall of Fame Defensive Tackle. Art and Big Daddy Lipscomb were an awesome duo on the inside. One of the best DT duos in NFL history
willie galimore , number 28 , Chicago bears , one heck of a terrific running back , gone way , way , too soon , rest in peace willie , u were one of my favorite ballplayers of all time , and I live in Cleveland , ohio .
I played highschool and college football in the 60s and early 70s.I went back to coach highschool football in the 90s and wanted to quit after 2 practices. The game had changed so much I felt dead inside.
The players of the past might not be as big, strong, or fast as the players today but the old timers were 100x tougher than the overpaid whiners of today that miss 2 games for a turf toe injury
I don't know if hero is the best word to use, but almost positive he was the last pre 60 minute man, He played the entire game as starting offensive center and starting defensive middle linebacker, just about the two most physical positions you can play on either side. Never got the recognition because the New York sports writers hated him, primarily for two reasons. He played for Philadelphia (hated rival), and when they played the Giants he always seemed to knock the shit out of a few of their players, even if the Eagles lost. I can't think of any other football player as tough as that guy was. I repeat, he played the entire game, every game, and kicked ass either way.
My uncle was All-American from Ohio State. He had an offer from the Browns, turned it down because he told me, at the time, he could be a veterinarian, make $500 more a year, and not get brutally beat up each week!
You mean "Thee Ohio State University," right? They were the first ones, as pros, when they had the pregame intros who said that. Now everybody says that just about. I wonder who the first NFL player from OSU was who said that. Maybe it was your uncle!!!!
@@thebruteofbilaal2325 No. This is in the early 50s. He went to work for a meat packing firm out of Cincinnati that went to be a part owner of The Bengals. The meat packing firm, not my uncle.
Todays players would cry and run off the field to their lawyers office. Guys back then were just meaner and tougher. Teeth all over the field... get in the huddle! lol.
@@DanOne1513 Rubbish. That's funny. Sure they could. Donovan said himself on Letterman, "players are tough in all eras." Frank Gifford *COULD NOT* play halfback in today's game. In the past 40+ years with synthetic surfaces that have made the game faster (and more violent), and with more faster, bigger, better athletes -particularly on defense - today's good players could certainly compete with yesteryear's good players..
MADE IN CHINA in the late 70's and early 80's when this was made Steve Sabol hired a band to score nfl films probably only way to find out is get the film and read the credits

Wished today's football would be like back in the 50's.
Tom brady ruined it, the bernard pollard hit changed the rules
This film stands on it's own just fine without the image stabilization.
If everything was equal, the teams of years ago would destroy the teams of today.

Sam Houston - Amen - a hero who happened to be a great football player.
@@WuLi4B He's a hero for what he did in WW2 more than for what he did on the football field
@Spam Houston hero’s are the ones who don’t make it back.

Not really true, boss.

The football highlights in the 50's was narrated by the voice of G-d, John Facenda.
Love that voice and narration.
I remember watching highlights as a boy in the 70s on weekend mornings and hearing that great voice
This is GREAT!
Man,... , Art IS THE MAN !!! ON ANNND OFF THE FIELD. !!!!!

Bednarik played until the 1960 season and retired after the Eagles won the championship

Makes you wonder if they had less head injuries back then, even with the helmets being made from papier-mâché
