    I read a review that suggested using 91% alcohol in a shot glass full of pellets to soak for 5 minutes. Poor the alcohol off and then add them to the tube and light with a normal lighter. Allow to burn for 10 minutes. Blow the flame out and put it in the smoker. Tried it today in my pit boss vertical smoker and it worked perfectly. had a good long smoke. I will also be sure to try your suggestion. It is a good idea. Thanks for the video.

      I switched from using a propane torch to a heat gun about a year ago. Works way better IMO. More initial flame and faster than using a torch.

    Check out if you haven't the bella's cold smoke generator. I've got one mounted on the back of my pit boss pro series. It works awesome, much better than even two smoke tubes, and I can refill it without having to open my lid, which is really nice for long cooks

    Thanks for the video. I recently bought the Louisiana Grills SL 700. It’s my first pellet grill and I recently bought a smoke tube to add more smoke. I’ve even tried good quality pellets and still not enough smoke flavor.
    I’m hoping your method will work for me and I like the idea of placing the tubes underneath, but I fear grease will cause a mini fire when it drips on the tube. My smoker’s exhaust consists of several holes in the rear. If I only have one tube, where would be the best place for it? The rear or font?

    • @LowandSlowBBQ
      @LowandSlowBBQ  3 года назад +7

      I would place it on the opposite side of the exhaust forcing the smoke to travel across the whole pit.

      Not sure about that, I use the smoke tubes for additional smoke flavor, I do not cold smoke the meat. Some people cold smoke things like cheese etc. I do not cold smoke meats. I add the tubes to the pit with the actual smoker going. Usually at a temp of 225 degrees.

      Might be too much smoke also. Meat absorbs best before around 150*. I’m going to try a tube but only plane on using it for the first hour of the cook. Smoke should be blue and almost clear. Dense white smoke will negatively affect flavor for sure.

    • @LowandSlowBBQ
      @LowandSlowBBQ  2 года назад +1

      I always just let them burn out, You could add less pellets for a smaller cook. You can pour them out or use water but you would have to really dry the tube to stop it from rusting.

    When you do turn on the grill does it produce a good clean smoke because to much of that white smoke will bitter out the meat. Make it taste like a tree branch. I have a smoke tube I just purchased and am curious as to if it will work or just be to much.

    • @LowandSlowBBQ
      @LowandSlowBBQ  2 года назад +1

      yeah Id say one tube probably last about 4 hours maybe more. But the meat really only takes on the smoke flavor for about the first 2 - 3 hours so the rest is really just cook time. so it should do the trick with just one setting truly, from my experience.

    • @benbridgman991
      @benbridgman991 2 года назад

      You're meat isn't gonna take any more smoke flavor after 4 hours. After 4 hours you're just using heat to complete the cooking process and the smoke tubes wouldn't be doing you any more good at the point anyway

  • @kdglock4491

    Correct me if im wrong. From my experience and all bbq experts. Smoldering white smoke is horrible for bbq and you want blue smoke created from flames. So wouldnt this make the bbq taste strange?

    • @LowandSlowBBQ
      @LowandSlowBBQ  3 года назад +1

      I am no expert for sure, but I haven't noticed any specific bad tastes. Albeit nothing can replace the taste of real stick burner, but this is a lot easier than the hard work of an offset or something like it. Good luck and have fun.

      Smoked my first brisket in traeger 780 yesterday. I don’t have super smoke function so, I Put one smoke tube in. After ab 2 1/2 hours I noticed a lot of white smoke coming out. I took smoke tube out and let traeger do it’s thing for rest of cook. End result was extremely mild smoke taste. I’m thinking next time I’m gonna leave it in for the full 4 hours. I also used pecan pellets in the tube, very mild wood. Hope this helps 🤷🏼‍♂️

      @@davidschannel3594how do you get clean smoke with the tube?

    • @davidschannel3594
      @davidschannel3594 10 месяцев назад

      @@whaattheef2169 the way that seems to work the best is a slow burn. Fill up your smoke tube, place it vertically and light the top where the pellets are. I usually use a torch for best results. Get the pellets red hot and let the flame burn for ab 5-10 mins. Blow out the flame give it another 5-10 and put it in your smoker horizontally. Usually this lets the tube burn down slow. Just be careful not to put the tube over the heating element in your smoker. It could reignite.
